The aquarium wasn't as fun as it used to be. When he was a kid, he could just sit around all day staring at penguins and sea lions, and maybe on a more daring day he could pretend that he was the scuba diver who had to feed the sharks. Now that he was all grown up, the workers that seemed to have nothing to do but walk in cirlces and boss him around expected him to actually help out with cleaning and other such jobs that they were probably supposed to be doing. Some things weren't so bad, like helping his mom with the baby turtles or something. But about ninety percent of the time, they gave him bathroom duty or made him work in the gift shop. (Which was really horrible, considering how much he hated talking to people.) On this particular day, they wanted him to feed the penguins. Which wasn't as cute and fun as it sounded, because fish are gross.
"I bet they don't pay you guys either," Drew grumbled, tossing a really nasty looking fish toward a very ungrateful looking penguin. His face morphed into a scowl as he leaned against the railing, waiting for the penguin to eat the fish before tossing more in for the others. "Then again, I guess you're working for room and board..." he sighed, giving up on his job and just dumping the rest of the fish over the railing. The flightless birds would eat it eventually.
The more time he spent at the aquarium, the more he realized that he should probably get a dog or something. So he'd stop talking to penguins and other marine animals. One of these days they'd declare him clinically insane.
As much as he wished he could just stop hanging out at the aquarium, he didn't really like going anywhere else. If he had to be out of the house and out surrounded by hundreds of people, he might as well be here where he can pretend to be thoroughly observing animals. But while that was okay during the school year, summer vacation would be upon him soon. And he couldn't spend all day everyday here. He'd really go insane then.
Maybe he would try and get a dog. And spend all summer trying to train it, or something. He let out another sigh, pushing away from the railing to move on to the next job on his list and pray he didn't trip over anything on the way there.

The pay sucked, the students were brats, and nobody ever felt gratitude toward them. Seriously, she and her fellow teachers were the ones educating the future, and yet they were always getting beat down. And when the kids started acting out, the blame was pinned on them, rather than the parents. Celsius truly wondered why anyone with a right mind would strive to work in this field.
Today was one of the rare days when she didn’t have to toil away on her desk grading unsatisfactory labs. Goodness, the grammar on these reports was horrendous. Not even a day out could get these thoughts out of her head, but it was certainly helping. With a half-empty cup of coffee in one hand and her cell phone in the other, she decided to take a visit to the aquarium. It had been years since her last trip, and she had gotten lost back then. Long story short, her parents didn’t allow her to return. Now that she was a grown, independent woman, today seemed to be the perfect time to revisit her favorite attraction.
“Huh, this place is a lot smaller than I remembered,” she muttered to herself as she strode through the entrance. The aquarium was much more crowded than she had anticipated, but then again, it was a weekend. This time around, Cel decided it’d be in her best interest to use the maps that the facility provided. She wouldn’t want a repeat of her last trip.
For a while, she occupied herself by staring at the sharks, but eventually the entire thing became tedious. “I must’ve experienced extreme boredom to think this was fun,” she sighed, turning away from the tank. She ended up disregarding the map and began to wander in hopes of stumbling across anything worthwhile. After rounding a corner, her gaze landed on a rather peeved young man.
“Oh my, not enjoying the aquarium?” she remarked, approaching the individual. “Have the penguins been harassing you?” The boy had a familiar face, but she couldn’t quite remember whether or not he was a student. Either way, she’d find out soon enough.
