“Nope. Not yet.” He left Anastasia to find the keyword and groan. Because it was a wonderful idea, and Kellan had filed the thought away in his large, daunting archives of ways to make the Impedio Society life more fun. That definition pertained to him and him only—a more accurate description was “ways to make people want to slit their wrists.” Kellan watched Anastasia’s progress over her shoulder. “You could write about your life in the Impedio Society so far? I don’t know, what do you usually write about to your friends back in Russia? Okay, okay—let’s pretend Arc is your friend.”He knew what he wanted to write. He wanted to grab another piece of paper and write another letter—a love letter, from Gio, to Arc. He’d have to type it up, because his handwriting looked like fancy chicken scrawl. “Like, here,” he said, gently sliding the paper back over to him and slipping the pen from her hands. He continued the letter. So, how’s life? I know that it’s never a dull moment in the Darzi-Accurso household. Did you know that Mr. Giovanni hides a dungeon under the house? It’s the bee’s knees! And it’s that kind of dungeon, if you catch my drift.“Life with Pasha, go.” He slid the letter back to Anastasia. ANASTASIA SOKOLOV

Not yet? Good god. He was just asking for trouble. And now he was, even worse, getting her involved.
Pasha was not going to be happy if she ended up implicated in stealing from one of the big three. For that matter, Pasha wasn't going to be happy if she ended up implicated in theft at all. Pasha wasn't the sort of guardian who was going to put up with trouble. Anything that even looked like trouble was going to get glared at until it collapsed. She hadn't been with him long at all, but she still knew that much about him. He just was not going to put up with it.
She eyed the paper watching him write. Darzi-Accurso? She paused, unsure of the name, before glancing at him. "Darzi-Accurso? Is that you?" It wasn't as if she was a stranger to long names. Pasha was Mikhaylichenko-Molotov after all, which made Darzi-Accurso look downright short. "And what's this about a dungeon?" Oh no, she wasn't continuing the letter unless he explained what the heck he was writing. "I don't understand hte last bit at all." What did bee's knees matter? What kind of dungeon? Her brow seemed permanently furrowed.

“Darzi-Accurso is Mr. Giovanni’s last name. I’m just Accurso,” he said, spinning the pen and watching it weave through his fingers. It was an old parlour trick he’d learned from his older brother. He was a cool person, except when he wasn’t, which was almost always. “It’s not a dungeon. I mean, I wouldn’t bet it on.” What he meant by this was that he would’ve liked it to be a dungeon, and that he thought that it was a dungeon, but logic had another thing coming for him. Kellan eyed his hands, which had healed for the most part, but they still looked a little bit angry. “And the last part? What, the bee’s knees? Just another expression—it describes something that’s fabulous.”He slouched over the table, his palm cupped into his palm. He drummed absently on the worn wood, eyeing Anastasia expectantly. “Can’t think of anything fun to write?”ANASTASIA SOKOLOV

Wait wait wait, hold on for just one second. Anastasia was squinting at Kellan intensely, and you could practically see the gears spinning in her head. Giovanni was... wasn't he one of the leaders? All that 'Mr. Giovanni' had mixed her up, and she found herself pausing.
Giovanni Darzi-Accurso. Kellan... Darzi-Accurso?
"Kellan." Anastasia began, saying his name for the first time. "Are you related to Giovanni Darzi-Accurso?" He was, wasn't he. Which was the only possible reason that he could get away with joking about stealing from one of the big three--because he was related to one of the big three. His son, if Anastasia had to guess, although she'd be wrong.
She utterly ignored the question he asked about writing, because writing a letter was not important. Finding out if he was the bosses son was.

Kellan was a firm believer that a face was a mirror, and he strove to show a smile whenever he could. He didn’t think that a smile would reassure Anastasia as much as it would make him look like a cocky meathead. The corner of his lip twitched indecisively, but he decided to settle for something a little more sheepish. “Well, yes,” he said. “I’m his nephew. My father is Mr. Giovanni Darzi-Accurso’s older brother, but he’s all the way in Europe. I live in the Darzi-Accurso household. And they’re a rowdy bunch, I’ll tell you.” Kellan was the one with the biggest penchant for sticking tacks on chairs and hiding whoopee cushions around the house, so Mr. Giovanni had his hands full. He would be all sorts of pots calling kettles every shade of black if he hadn’t implied that he was the worst of the lot. Also, the letter had materialized in front of Kellan, as he’d concluded that Anastasia had nothing more to write. He continued: What do you say about physical training lessons? I didn’t like my last trainer—he was an arse. Do you have any training tips, perhaps? Daily routines? The only reason he could write it was because he wasn’t sure if he was going to mail this letter anymore. Training with Arc was suicide. ANASTASIA SOKOLOV

Nephew. Not his son (which likely would have been worse), but his nephew. Still related. And he still lived with him.
Anastasia paused, eyeing the letter for a moment, before reaching out and pressing her fingers to the letter, sliding it well away from Kellan. She snagged the pen from his as well, shooting him a 'don't even try it' look before adding her own segment.
I, Anastasia, want it known that I was not involved in any way in any of the things that Kellan got up to. I am only writing this letter to practice my English.
She paused for a moment, before adding an extra bit.
Perhaps he could use some extra physical training.
Pasha would have liked that, she was quite confident. In fact, she was almost entirely sure that Pasha had no idea the state of Giovanni's nephew, because if he knew that the head of the IS who had a nephew who couldn't even fight, he'd have probably choked on his morning coffee.
She carefully slid the letter back, returning the pen. "You can finish the letter as you'd like. I simply wanted it on..." She paused, trying to remember the word for a moment. "I wanted it on record that I wasn't involved in whatever you did."

Kellan read over what Anastasia had written, and he let out another one of those Kellan laughs—one, careless bark. Anastasia had a sense of humour that Kellan appreciated—even though, technically, it was less for Kellan’s amusement and more to save her rear. All the same. “No worries,” he laughed. “All shenanigans that I happen to stir up are my responsibility alone. I’m used to it.”He took the pen and added one final, affectionate touch, a grin spread across his face as he wrote it. Ha-ha! What she said!
Lots of love, Kellan and Anastasia“There we go,” he said, holding the letter up and looking over with one eye. He’d taken off his glasses to do so. “I think this thing is ready, don’t you?”What he meant by this was that it was ready for the fire. ANASTASIA SOKOLOVFULL LETTER:

Any pretense of the letter not being sent had gone flying out the window, and Anastasia eyed Kellan with a mixture of emotions that was hard to place. On one hand, he certainly had spirit. On another, he was trouble. On yet another hand that Anastasia had apparently grown, he had absolutely no real respect for authority. If she had to guess, she'd have probably guessed it was because he was related to the main authority above him, which always managed to undermine things. It was one of the reasons why a proper army unit didn't involve family members--it just made things messy and confusing.
It hadn't occurred to her that Kellan might not send the letter. If she ever met Arc, she was going to have to apologize though. The whole thing was just painfully awkward, and Anastasia was rather wishing she could go back in time and punch herself in the face to stop herself from writing anything in the letter at all. She didn't dare look at the ending, and if she had known it said 'lots of love', she would probably have choked.
"I would think that is quite enough English practice for one day." And forever, hopefully. She was quite confident that she wasn't going to be learning any useful English from Kellan, but she'd have to keep an ear out and see if any of the phrases he'd taught her would come up in conversations with people other then him. "But thank you."

Kellan pursed his lips. He couldn’t refute the fact that he’d been having a little too much fun near the end of their brief “English lesson,” but that was the goal at the end of the day. “All right, then. It was fun.” He hoped it was as much fun for Anastasia as it was for Kellan. “We could hang out again sometime.”And then it was like dry tumbleweed had rolled past the two of them, leaving not much room for much anything other than awkward side-glances and twiddling thumbs. Kellan would try to make conversation, but he didn’t know how Anastasia felt about him. So they sat there until they both found it in them to get up and leave the library, with slightly sour tastes in their mouths. ANASTASIA SOKOLOV
