OOC Info Played By AshworthAlso Plays N/APlot Preference HighFace Claim Ball From 666 Satan | 01. Living Situation Manager of Patient Services at Hope Hospital. Lives in Palazzo Communities, apartment 2b. 02. Appearance Roland has a pretty unique appearance, if dreadlocks can still be called unique in today's modern society. Thick black locks sit atop his head, prevented from dangling down and blocking his view by one of his many headbands which vary in order to match the rest of his outfit. He stands at six feet even, an average build all around, though he feels like his a gut is starting to form from his lack of exercise. His eyes are a amusing grey, a sign of his heritage as most Ashworth's have them, though there have been acceptions, and his skin color, if one was curious enough to ask it, is a toasty brown that doesn't changed much even with a tan. 03. Personality Roland for the most part is your typical Type B personality. He's pretty laid back, taking things in stride as there isn't much that can ruffle his feathers or drive him into a rage driven state, and even on the off chance that his anger is roused he usually tries multiple non-aggressive approaches before resulting to physical violence. That's not to say he won't do his best to defend himself or his loved ones, but really what does hitting solve? He likes to believe that he is somewhat intelligent, and compared to most people he is used to dealing with he would be correct. His smarts is more of a common sense to be honest, so you'll rarely hear him spout of scientific facts or the thoughts of famous people long dead, but he does seem to retain some of the most random and seemingly useless information. For the most part he is common enough in attitude all the same, but he does have his competitive side, usually in sports and chess. He hates to lose, but he won't hold a grudge or anything, yet he will push his teammates to go harder and be more vigorous in their actions. He has an easy going personality, which makes him approachable to people and allows him to make friends easier. Recently however, he has become very much detached from society, spending more time sleeping or meditating in his apartment that he does outside interacting with people. Not to say he isn't nice or engaging when he talking to people, but he seems to always find a way to politely decline any invitation out. 04. History Roland is the second child of four from Ron and Toshia Ashworth. He was born and raised in the northern part of Indiana, a small town that most people passed through but no one seemed to know the name of. He shared the title of middle child along with his younger sister who was only eighteen months behind him, something he was grateful for because it seemed that his brother and sister liked to be loud and demanding while he merely looked on. By the time his little brother was born Roland was already known as the quiet child, though he was always in the thick of things when the children got into trouble, and received his fair share of spankings. Growing up was practically uneventful for him, he made some friends, went through his teenage angst, but he always seemed to have a level head on his shoulders. If something seemed like a dumb idea he said so, and if his peers decided that doing it was fun, he would gladly sit out. He'd worked since he was sixteen, and each year seemed to bring a different job, from fast food to clothing stores and more, but he was a determined worker and so took each job with dedication. Customer service was apparently his forte, often going above and beyond when it came to making them happy and satisfied, even if he was not thanked for it. Perhaps it was because helping them made him feel better about himself, or maybe it was just something akin to taking pride in ones work, but never the less it did not go unnoticed by his superiors. While he did attend college, he never finished. It just seemed unimportant since he had no idea what he wanted to major in. When he got the job at the hospital some years ago life seemed to fall into a steady and peaceful pace for him. He had his family and friends to keep him company, a job he loved, and no troubles to stress over. That all fell apart when his parents decided to split. A divorce in this day and age was no big deal, but coupled with the separation of his family into the four winds it brought a long lasting drama into his life that he would likely never forget. In one day his family was gone, moved to different parts of the country to live with family members or friends. Before he knew it he was the only member of his family left in Indiana, and though he still had countless friends to call on, none of them seemed to fill the void in his heart. Instead he found work to fill the void, throwing himself into his job and grinding in hour after hour to doing it right. With so much change going on in the medical field, hospitals were now run almost like every other store, based on customer service and speed. Did the patient get to where they needed to go quickly? Were there any problems that were not addressed? Were they nice and polite? All of these things and more were now not only good to have but necessary in order to survive the reform. These things were monitored and scored, with the highest scoring facility being rewarded by the government with grants and funding. Needless to say, when patients started to fill out the survey with Roland being the topic it spoke volumes to his boss. So he was promoted and put in charge of registration as a whole, and though he did not actually complete his college education, the results of his work and the willingness to go back put him in some good favors. Normally it would have been too much to handle, going to school and working full time, but it had become his drug, his escape from the crippling loneliness that he felt within. So with more time spent working, studying or in class, the less time he had to dwell on his situation, but it came with a price. Though he did not realize it Roland had changed almost drastically. His grades were fine, but were worried as he just seemed almost robotic when he interacted with them. He always seemed to have an excuse as to why he couldn't hang out or why he didn't want to grab some dinner with them. Even on the rare occasions that he didn't have work or school, he would just sit at home and read or just wander aimlessly through town. Though they tried to reach him, tried to break through this wall of indifference and excuses in the end they stopped trying. Before he knew it the invitations stopped coming, the texts no longer sent. Soon he had his associates in business management, which allowed his old boss to move up the ladder and for him to take over. But now that he didn't have to go to school, and the hours became less erratic, Roland found himself back at square one, even worse off since he had distanced himself from his friends. It was a dark time in his life when he should have been happy and celebrating. His parents were still trying to move on, and through they never said it, it seemed like talking to their kids opened old wounds, so it was always brief conversations at best. His siblings had their own lives, their own trails to get through, and he just couldn't gather the courage to build the bridge towards his friends again. Eventually, he became so introverted that he convinced himself he didn't need anyone to be happy, that his job was enough. It seemed that was all about to change with one unexpected visit. With all this competition to be the best hospital in the business, when a hospital jumps from the mid thirties into the top ten seemingly over night it makes a huge impression and turns quite a few heads. Roland was honored with a plaque from the board and even got his mug on the news. But even as a manager, one still had to deal with the patients on a daily bases, just with the added responsibility managing coworkers, their schedules and their concerns. Imagine his surprise one day when he receives a call from a man claiming to have a opportunity of a life time. It was the CEO of his hospital, impressed with what he had done for them at this and wanting to offer him a better job. LA. The apratment was paid for, his salary increased, and the neighbors weren't bad. But he was still alone, still in his funk, and while he tried to focus on the positives, to let his work distract his thoughts, somehow they always wormed their way into the front of his mind. Sad really, but this was his life now. |
