Had Johanna known about the way schools were elsewhere, she likely would have wished for it to be the same there. Not so much the hours, but at least the clean environment. People their age here didn't really care as much about keeping places that were their own clean, much less places that weren't their own. Personally, Johanna had never been much for making a mess. On purpose. Accidents happened. She cleaned up after her accidents, though. Other people were not the same.
She noticed Eun-Yul stepping out of the way and glanced back, noticing the gum. Her nose wrinkled slightly. Gross. "Yeah." It was unfortunate the way people behaved, but it wasn't like she could brow beat everyone into doing things she wanted. She'd learned that in elementary school. One of the kids shoved sand down her shirt. Unpleasant.
"Huh? Oh! Yes. I play field hockey." Johanna smiled at that. There was practice after school today. She never really minded. "I'm alright at other sports." She just didn't care as much about other sports. She could play them and she had for a grade, but it didn't really interest her. Soccer was interesting enough, but she preferred field hockey. Gymnastics was not really her strength. The balance beam made her uncomfortable and so did almost everything else about it. "Do you play any sports?" She was a little shorter, but she seemed able to keep up well enough and avoid dangerous floor gum. Whether that was something that came naturally or something that had taken some practice, Johanna couldn't say. They'd only just met. "There is the library," she said quietly, peeking around to see if anyone noticed her or not. Not yet. Once the bell rang, they could blend in with the regular students and likely no one would even notice.

She was unfamiliar with the concept of school sports teams with mascots and bouncing cheerleaders and school pride, academics always the main focus and everyone too busy with various hagwons and private tutors to have time to dedicate to hours of practice after school. Not that the schools had rooms for things such as stadiums and fields anyway. Most students were limited to taekwondo or dance classes for athletics, although she did know a couple boys in her class that were in a soccer league.
Otherwise there wasn't too much she knew about sports or how any of them were played, only did a couple lessons in her English classes to learn that games with balls were typically played and games without were done. But the differences between tennis and badminton and ping pong were lost on her. So by that reasoning field hockey must have been one of those games with a ball, although beyond that Eun-Yul couldn't guess if it was a game that involved throwing or kicking or hitting things around.
"I don't like," Eun-Yul announced, the one time she tried to play baseball with the kids at the park she wound up with a lump to the forehead instead. "Team is not good." And that didn't just apply to games, Eun-Yul disliked cooperation in most aspects of her life. For all her natural coordination, there was very little she chose to do with it. "I do the hula hoop." Which she was surprisingly good at, and didn't require anyone to else do with or against. Lacked rules to remember or structures to follow.
The library looked like any other, in that it was full of shelves and books and Eun-Yul had very little interest other than getting away from it as quickly as possible.

It hadn't really occured to Johanna that people wouldn't understand the idea of sports. Almost everyone she knew had at least a little bit of knowledge about sports. Their team wasn't the best team by any means, but it was still fun to play. Even if she did get a little too upset at times about losing. It wasn't her fault, really. It was an upsetting thing to lose. People liked to say that losers didn't get anywhere in life and she wanted to get somewhere. She needed to get somewhere.
"You don't play, then? That's all right." Not everyone here did. Some people liked theater better and others didn't really like to do anything. At the mention of the hula hoop, Johanna's eyebrows raised just a touch. "Hula hoops are nice," she said after a moment, not really sure what else to say on the matter.
Johanna rather liked the library. It was quiet and allowed her some time to herself. Plus, it helped with the studying. She had to get good grades. Especially in math.
The bell sounding overhead made her jump a touch and she glanced over toward Eun-Yul. "Free period's over," she said quietly. She really didn't want to miss class, but she almost felt bad for leaving Eun-Yul. "The entrance isn't too far from here. I probably shouldn't miss class." A pause. "Do you want to go see a movie or something sometime? I know a good theater." She paused again. "If you want to, that is."

Johanna's jump at the ringing bell almost made Eun-Yul laugh, amused that the girl allowed it to control where she was meant to be. Her and an entire school's worth of obedient children, taking orders passed down by the recorded sound of a bell. Not even an actual bell, just the mere echo of one played over the speakers throughout the hallways. But she knew she'd be under its influence as well soon enough.
She wasn't too offended at being abandoned, though the tour was hardly satisfactory. It was all a matter of if Johanna was the sort of friend that would drag her to class to make sure she didn't get in trouble, or if she was the sort of friend that would cover for her when she skipped. Eun-Yul grabbed the girl's arm again, pulling her in close before she could run off to whatever lesson was so important just yet.
"I like the movie," she agreed, would have to give the girl a call sometime if only to keep herself entertained in the big city she still had yet to explore. The girl had to know more things to do than she did, after all.
A stray hair on Johanna's blue shirt caught her eye, and Eun-Yul slowly pulled it off with a bright smile. "You lose this," she announced helpfully, holding it up for Johanna to witness. "Now mine." And Eun-Yul shoved the bright red strand of hair into her purse with no discretion, planning to use it at a later time for colour-matching purposes while painting. "Thank you," she patted Johanna lightly on the cheek in farewell.
