Morning coffee. It was a beautiful, beautiful thing. Komau was busying himself this morning with some last minute paperwork he forgot about...for the past two months. His pants were halfway around his knees and his shirt still unbuttoned, and that is when he looked at the clock: 8:04. "Nooooooooo I'm late again! Arc is going to have my balls..." He signed and sat back down on his mocha-colored loveseat while he finished dressing. The paperwork would just be late, but the good thing about it was he handled this paperwork. It was his own monthly report about the findings of his own division. And it would be sent directly to himself. So...why was he worrying again? Oh right - Arc. She liked to keep up with all of the weapons, which meant she liked to quickly glance to see if there were any new shiny toys she could play with. Or torture the recruits with. Both were things she loved to do.
Finally dressed in a dark pastel purple shirt and solid black dress slacks, Komau grabbed a black coat from his rack and ran out the door. Another glance at his watch read 8:17. Another sigh escaped his lips; he just couldn't get it together today. He always walked to work since he lived so close, and today would be no exception. Minutes later, he was entering the building and getting scanned by security. It didn't take long, thankfully, so in a matter of minutes he was on his way. He took the elevator, got checked by another security, then swapped to another elevator that took him directly to his office. Or his small movie theater. It was big enough. He chose this area because while it was so massive, it housed the most important relics that the Impedio Society had. He wanted to be close to them at all times, so why not have an office in the same room? He tossed the stack of papers on his deck before removing his coat. Something was missing, though...something super important. It was something he always had whenever he made it to his office, but today he had forgotten it in his hurry.
Coffee.
The optimistic ball of energy quickly deflated and fell into his computer chair feeling defeated. He'd have to send someone to go get some coffee probably, but who could he trust? Who would be able to make the most delicious cup of coffee that could only defeat the worst morning ever? And then it hit him - Elaine! Sure it was Giovanni's daughter and she seemed kind of bratty, but she would have to do. This morning she was to report to him at 9:00 as she was recently assigned under him. Komau sincerely hoped it wasn't going to feel like babysitting. He never had kids, so it's not like he knew how to raise one. But she was supposed to be different. She was in the Impedio Society, so she was supposed to be the cream of the crop. She would know how to get him coffee! It would be her first assignment. The consul picked up his phone and punched some numbers before going directly to her desk. "Good morning my dear! Would you be so kind as to bring a fresh cup of coffee to me this morning? Preferably the delicious brew that your father has hidden in second drawer of his office desk. Right side and just behind the stack of monthly reports for March and April. Thanks - see you soon!" He quickly hung up his phone, spun around in his chair, and waited for his coffee to arrive.

love me hate me say what you want about me but all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek amy What was school? Oh right, unimportant, that was it. Elaine thought school was pretty stupid - she already knew the stuff, plus there were always stupid assignments and stuff. If she was really in any trouble, she could always take in account the numerous amount of people she had wrapped around her finger to do her work for her. She didn't mean to brag, but there were plenty of people who would gladly do homework and takes notes for her at school. Maybe out of admiration, maybe out of fear. It was just today was one of those days she felt that school was so irrevocably stupid. She was just lucky that she was to report to work in the research department today and she wasn't supposed to go to school. Ah, the perks of being in the Impedio Society.
Her dad had said the work involved ancient artifacts and the Impedio Society. So it wasn't really much bad. Elaine was just stuck with a menial task - for now. Categorizing and sorting artifacts. At least, that was what she told herself her job was. Right now it was just writing reports using the artifact that her father had bestowed upon her. She had been a bit surprised, really - after all the trouble she's caused, her father chose to give her an artifact instead of actually punishing her. But not like she was complaining. This would finally put her in the Impedio Society officially. Not just on visits to her father's office or chats with her brothers.
And she didn't have to be under her father. Don't get her wrong - Elaine loved her dad and all, it was just working under him that really bothered her. He was just sometimes really scary.
So it was this morning she dragged herself to headquarters and decided, hey why not, start working a little bit early. She had her artifact and she had another artifact and well, why not write a report and prove to her father that a little responsibility did do her good while simultaneously planning greater plans. But she found herself internally screaming in frustration as she couldn't figure heads nor tails about this specific artifact.
It looked like an old pen. It looked like an old pen she was going to bullshit a report on - and she was just starting to when someone rang her up.
"Hello?" Truth be told, Elaine barely even got her greeting out before she was serenaded by the words of her boss. If he weren't so... high up, she'd have given him a piece of her mind. Actually, that didn't even matter, because she was nigh about to complain to him that no, she was absolutely not doing as he asked and how the hell did he of all people know where her father kept his coffee. "If you think I'm going to-" and he hung up. He hung up on her. That was not okay.
But this was an important higher up and she would do well to gain his favor, so she begrudgingly stole her father's coffee (she'd be given hell for it later she was sure, but she was already in a lot of trouble as it was with her father so what more was a bit of stolen coffee, albeit expensive coffee) and went to Komau's office.
Knock knock. Barge in. Elaine barely had any sense of courtesy in her, especially when she was being treated like some intern girl who just got the coffee. Literally what she was doing now, too. "First off, how'd you know where dad kept his coffee?" Don't tell her they were... oh god the mental image hurt, just the thought was bad. No, couldn't be. Her dad wasn't gay. She immediately dismissed that thought. "Second, I believe we were supposed to meet anyways at nine." |

tagged: Tags Here. time:May 5, 10am. speech: komau. notes: Notes here Shortly after the two had their "call", Elaine burst into his office with that delicious coffee. At first, her words didn't register. Sure he knew where the coffee was stashed. But Komau knew a lot of things that he would never admit to. Information was information, right? That was Komau's specialty. While Arc and Gio were good at their own respective fields, Komau was stuck doing research and keeping up with family histories all the time. Mostly reading over the reports of his other employees tended to get boring sometimes. So the giant snoop had managed to explore areas that normally would have no other visitors. How? Those were his secrets, and secrets they would stay."Elaine I know lots of things. It's my job to stay informed. After all, I am the essentially the head researcher. I wasn't chosen because I look pretty. Well, maybe that, but above all I'm very perceptive."
Komau reached out and grabbed the coffee from Elaine, turning to carefully measure out just the perfect amount so that he could have a perfect cup of coffee. "And secondly..." The mischievous grin returned to the young consul's face. "You are correct. I have a very important task for you this morning. It requires a brilliant mind, one that can think outside of the box. One that is fresh and young. One that requires much, much deep thinking and risk." He held his breath for a moment, attempting to build up anticipation. The tension in the room increased slightly as he leaned forward, speaking almost in a whisper. "But you can't tell daddy. No no no he would not like that at all. We're going to be playing with some dangerous artifacts today, and I want you to discover their secrets."
He wasn't far from the truth. Actually...he kind of was. He already knew what the artifacts did, but they were unique in the way that they were activated. He wanted Elaine to mess around with them and try to activate them. Figure out how they work, you know? Certainly it would give her something to do, but what she didn't know was that Komau would be watching her the entire time in another part of the building. Of course he wasn't going to tell the young recruit about the true task at hand. No, that wouldn't end well at all. Instead, he would sit back with his freshly brewed coffee and watch her to see how well she performed. "Well, are you up to the task? The chances of death are about 3% or so, I would think. Nothing too serious. If not I can always send you across town to get some of my suits cleaned..." And with that, he planned to hook her. Komau knew Elaine was the daughter of Giovanni, and he also knew that she loathed doing menial chores. Who actually did enjoy that anyway? Once dangled with an opportunity to do something more interesting than sneak inside daddy's office and snatch the coffee she would probably take it. If not, he would just have to figure something out.

love me hate me say what you want about me but all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek amy "So you stay informed about... my father's coffee? The exact location?" Elaine didn't even know that. It was only with Komau's instructions that she even knew. Because honestly, who would know where the hell coffee was kept? Still, she didn't question, he knew what he knew. It just raised some eyebrows - particularly hers. It wasn't really any of her concern, despite her curiosity on it. "Well, whatever excites you. Dad's coffee or not." Elaine was probably never going to let that go for the rest of her life. Even if it was just a trivial matter such as coffee.
More important things like why he needed to meet with her were at hand though. Of course, all of what Komau was saying right now applied to her. At least, that was the conclusion she came to - more or less because he had summoned her and who else could he be talking about? Elaine liked compliments, a lot, so he was earning alll the points in her book. Well, she wasn't going to try anything dubious with him anyways, being as high up as he was (was it usual to have someone so up there talk to a trainee?), but now she was definitely pretty happy she wasn't under Arc or Gio.
And not telling daddy? Always a plus. She was definitely intrigued now. "Tell me more." Despite his wordiness, Mr. Madaki had barely said a thing besides artifacts. But if it was to be kept a secret from daddy, she was definitely in on it. Especially if it wouldn't please him at all. So perhaps she should not really be intending on getting her father angry here seeing as she didn't particularly want to be punished moreover than she already was... but she just couldn't resist. Besides, what harm could it be, especially when it was someone of the same rank as him. That is to say, really really high up there.
Chance of death didn't faze her one bit. The only thing that really got to her was that she might be reduced to doing unimportant work like picking up and dropping off suits to the dry cleaners. No thank you. He was quite correct in his deductions - if Elaine hated anything, it was being unimportant and being put to do menial work. While she would steal her father's coffee again and again, there was just some things that were left to be desired from that task. "Only 3%? You drive a hard bargain, really, I feel like I'm going to be going against my father's wishes. I've got no choice but to accept now."
She kept the danger factor in mind, but it wasn't really a concern. Honestly? Anything more exciting than that old pen she would jump on. |

tagged: Tags Here. time:May 5, 10am. speech: komau. notes: Notes here After his spill, she seemed to be quite interested in his offer. Hook. Line. Sinker. Now that he had her attention, he would give her a simple task, one that was pretty trivial to him, but it would be something new and refreshing for a young lass like Elaine. Maybe he shouldn't call her a lass. She was Giovanni's daughter, after all, and that just felt weird. He cleared his throat for a moment and continued on with his brief speech. "What I'd like for you today is to examine three different artifacts. These were recently retrieved from...well, I can't tell you that. Heck I don't even know where, come to think of it...Anyway! We need to know what they do and how they work. I have reason to believe that none of these cause widespread damage, explosions, or will set my office on fire, but there's always the chance. So do be careful, will you?"
Komau stood from his desk and walked over to the same storage area that he visited for Mikhail recently. He kept all of the neat artifacts there so that he could keep a close watch on them. Komau unlocked the door and opened it, grabbing an ancient, leather-bound book as well as a crudely-fashioned spear. It was made out of...okay so Komau didn't exactly know what it was made out of. After quickly locking the closet, he brought the two items over to Elaine and set them down on the large oak table in front of her.
"I have no idea what these things do, so if you could figure out their powers I would greatly appreciate it. I'm going to leave you to work since this could take a little while. If you have any questions, you can page me with this." Komau produced a small, silver pager with a touchscreen that had two options: HELP and MADAKI. "Just press my name and it'll send a message straight to my phone, and I'll be here in a jiffy! Feel free to have some of your father's coffee, too." The consul gave Elaine a wink and a smile before walking over to pour his freshly brewed coffee. Or Giovanni's freshly brewed coffee. Either way, it was going to be delicious! With a bit of sugar and some creamer, Komau finished making his coffee and walked toward the door. Just as he approached the door, he turned quickly on the balls of his feet and mustered the most serious face he could. "Oh, and please be sure not to dig through my files on my desk. I trust you, as a member of our glorious organization, so I don't feel the need to lock everything up. But my files are confidential. And it's very important that these do not get shuffled around." He turned and walked out of the room, closing the door softly behind him.
Now the fun would begin!

love me hate me say what you want about me but all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek amy She listened intently. Well, Elaine tried to listen intently, but listening intently just wasn't exactly her thing. She listened passively, it was more like, as she looked around his office as he chattered on about the chance of destroying his office with the artifacts and for her to be careful. Hell, she'd probably try to do it on purpose because blowing up Komau's office sounded a whole lot of fun. Only, well, she didn't particularly want to be blown up herself, so that was out. She'd probably do this like a good girl and suck up to him.
She was good at sucking up to her superiors - usually. Sometimes. Other times it was just really hard. But she nodded enthusiastically anyway. She had to say, an ancient book was probably more boring than a pen, but a spear was probably less. Although, it did kind of look like it would crumble into little tiny pieces at any second, so she wasn't sure at all if this would be as exciting as the consul told her. But what reason did he have to lie?
No, Elaine took that back. He had every reason to lie, actually. She may have been Giovanni's daughter and in every way privileged, but that didn't mean she was supposed to be treated special. In fact, she was kind of wondering why she was called in. Well, of course for the task but, why her, of all people? She didn't question is too much thought, though, surely he had his reasons.
"Leave it to me! I won't disappoint you." Wasn't it a bit of a bad idea to leave her in his office, of all places, with these potentially dangerous artifacts, and leave her alone when she could do oh so many things? Thanks for you vote of confidence, Mr. Madaki, really. She took the pager and also the really expensive coffee that she had gotten from her father, waved him goodbye. He really shouldn't have mentioned anything about files she wasn't supposed to dig through, because it was more or less guaranteed for her to dig through them.
Of course, being the absolutely brilliant person she was, she went back to her desk to get the crystal orb that told her... well, not much of anything really. Pictures and stuff and it was honestly an incomprehensible mess. It wasn't much of a walk, really, and she was back in the office again. Exactly as she left it. She picked up the spear, took notes on its description, size, the regular things. The same with the old dusty book. And then she looked at the orb - no. She had let those files sit for a long time now. She was really curious about them too. |

love me hate me say what you want about me but all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek amy The hell is this? Elaine scrutinized it for a minute. Not only was the handwriting unbearably hard to read that Elaine once or twice debated if she should just quit trying because too much effort, but it was also so... so girly. Which was why it too her by so much surprise when she got to the very bottom and saw the K... Well no, K could have been anyone. The real kicker was the note beneath that - the comment about Gio coffee, which was apparently a thing now.
It was trash, it was. It didn't really apply to her. The only things that were really pissing her off was that Kellan was mentioned. Of all people, it had to be the freeloader of the family. The freeloader was the one Komau contacted. And honestly, the fact that they were taking over the HQ made her a little bit mad. Well, she got over it fairly quick when she realized exactly why the whole thing just downright confused her.
What reason did Komau have to take over the HQ - wasn't he one of the consuls? Unless there was some backstabbing and betrayal amongst the leaders, then Elaine would never forgive Kellan for associating with Komau if he were the backstabber - her loyalties had always lied with her father on important things like this.
Now she's just had to take care of that little shit. Though she noted the date... the 15th. Today was the 21st. Hmm... had her dad gone on any missions recently that she knew of? Oh well, that wasn't important really. She put the letter back where it belonged and pretended she didn't see it. The only thing that had really changed between now and before was that she had it on her mind she was beating up Kellan soon as she got home to get more information on this. |

tagged: Tags Here. time:May 5, 10am. speech: komau. notes: Notes here Komau waited in another office, loading up the wonderful little hidden camera he had recently placed in his office only to find a pair of young, wandering eyes. He could do nothing but smile as his little ploy lay right in front of her. He gave it a few moments before running back to his office - he was going to catch her by surprise. But he needed to be tactful about it. Standing up, he grabbed his coffee and sprinted out and into the hallway back toward his office.
In a slightly dramatic fashion, Komau opened his office door quickly and peered in."Oops! I forgot to mention..." Once his eyes finally focused on Elaine, it was game time. It took all he could do in order to muster a serious face. He even dropped the delicious coffee! That wasn't part of the act, but it only made things more believable. "Did you...just go through my stuff..." It was more like announcing the obvious than a question, and the next few minutes were going to be very interesting.
Witnessing Elaine looking at his fake letter was delightful news because now he was going to have so much fun! He crept inside and slowly closed the door behind him, making sure to lock it so that she could not leave. To her knowledge, that was the only way to get out. "You really shouldn't have done that, Elaine..." He stood with both of his arms crossed, unblinking and giving her a piercing glare.
Now it was her turn to make a move.

love me hate me say what you want about me but all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek amy Was that supposed to be something about...? Hmm, Elaine was putting the letter back and... and she was in deep shit, because she couldn't proceed as planned and forget she had ever seen that, because Komau had just walked in and she was caught in the act. Well... Elaine supposed she should have seen that coming, because what stupid person would keep something like that just laying there. Granted, he did tell her not to look through it, but she was a rebellious teenager.
"Oh, did I startle you? So sorry, didn't mean to make you drop my father's coffee. Perhaps you'd like me to make you another cup?" Sarcasm at its finest. Though, Elaine was pretty sure that was not the right thing to say when she was just caught red-handed, but lots of snark was simply something Elaine was prone to dishing out - especially in the face of trouble. And well, if this was anything this was trouble. But now that she was in trouble (she had been getting into trouble recently, a lot of it, what would daddy say?), she may as well resign.
And ask her fill of questions pertaining to the letter she read but wasn't supposed to read. But she didn't really want to die... Ah well, she would do it, because she was curious! For the good of the Society! If it was a takeover plot.... huh. Well, she was certainly in a predicament now. Elaine honestly had no idea how to handle this situation of probably high caliber.
But she just calmly went on with what she was doing, as she had been, as though nothing had happened. She had been calm, composed, relaxed even, as though she'd done nothing wrong and she had just been doing what she was supposed to be doing. She just took a little break and was perusing around the office because it was a little stuffy. Something of that sort. Elaine was back where she was supposed to be, working on those artifacts, prepared to work on them once more before turning her attention back to Komau.
Pretending to have forgotten he was even in the room. "Oh, right! You were saying something about how you forgot to mention...?" |

(MIKE IS SO SORRY HE FORGOT ABOUT THIS THREAD BUBBLES <3)
So she didn't flinch. Or at least she didn't on the outside. Komau knew better, though. He had her thinking about things, and planting a seed was all it took...when you were the old Komau. Working with people like Arcturus and Giovanni could really change a person. Harden them, even. With that being said, Komau decided to take a little tougher approach to see how things would go.
"Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. You're not leaving this office." Komau his left hand inside of his coat and pulled out a small piece of rope, approximately three feet long. It was very thin, made of flax and woven together tightly. Over the millenia, pieces have worn away, but thanks to the enchantment the majority of this rope was still intact. Komau tested its strength by stretching it out, allowing the rope to expand a few extra feet without any difficulty.
"Put your hands behind your back." This was not a request. It wasn't a friendly suggestion. This was an order, directly from a Consul to a peon in the Impedio Society

love me hate me say what you want about me but all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek amy Shit. Oh shit. ... Heavenly graced piece of crap. Elaine knew that she was in trouble, and the worst part about this trouble was, well, the fact that this was Komau (Mr. Madaki), and Komau was powerful, one of the heads. And even if she would like her dad to get her out of this mess, she swore she could hear his voice in her head telling her that she shouldn't have done that (or at the very least, shouldn't have gotten caught).
But she remained calm, because she'd gotten in trouble plenty of times before, and the best way to deal with it (from her expert research, which wasn't too extensive to be honest) was to not panic. And to not reveal weakness. They were testing her, they were, and Elaine had god damn failed it, but if she was going to fail it, she was failing it with sparkling lights, glitz, and glamour at her toe.
"But I wasn't even leaving the office, mister." So... maybe her voice got a bit pitchy and she tried to fake obliviousness (she wasn't fooling anyone, much less herself). Elaine was unsuccessfully trying an appeal to innocence here, but she was anything but innocent here. And then... then...
Oh fucking mother of god. Ropes. What, was Komau into ropeplay too? Elaine didn't know about Arc, but if her father and Komau both liked... what was this, caged up, tied up, vulnerable sex, what was that to say anything about the consuls of this society? Although she was obviously painfully aware of the fact this had nothing to do with what she was thinking of, she was trying to calm herself down and steel herself for the consequences by thinking of this humorously. Though, for some reason, her heart was pounding rapidly in her chest.
But, her father would probably hate her more if she disobeyed a direct order from a superior, especially one as high up as Komau, so she had no choice but to obey. Even if she didn't want to. Even if Elaine was staring at the rope that looked weak, but there was no way it could really be weak, could it? "Where to, Mr. Madaki?"
