Living Situation Mi-Ho is from a Korean American family that has worked over the years to stay in the middle class bracket. Financially some times were better than others, often sliding between the lines of lower middle class. Though Mi-Ho currently still lives with her parents in their home above their shop, she does have a bit of money from work for her own needs. She's currently on an indefinite hiatus from school, but she is making a feigned attempt to keep herself busy. Radio Station Assistant; Mi-Ho isn't the type of person who likes doing nothing in her time off from school. If nothing else, she sees the value in saving money for later. Thanks to some persistent searching and a friend of her father's, Mi-Ho managed to land a summer job with a radio station. No, radio isn't quite what it used to be, but the particular station she's working for specializes in folk and bluegrass. She mainly makes coffee, answers phones, cleans, and organizes things. Nothing special. Instrument Repair Assistant; Just like her brother, the instrument repair shop that her parents own has always been part of her life. She's not as skilled as her brother is, as she's never helped out quite as much as him. However, she's good with the string instruments that the store receives. She's also infamous with the rest of her family for reorganizing all of the orders that her father and brother have taken when no one else is around, simply based on what she feels is the most time efficient way to take care of things. 02. Appearance Most people find Mi-Ho's height rather impressive, as she stands at 5' 9". She is willowy and a tad flat-chested, but otherwise her features are rather average. Her hair is straight and black. When she was a young girl she preferred to keep it long. However, she's been keeping it an asymmetrical pixie cut since she was in high school, finding it much more easy to take care of and deal with when dancing. She's at the point of the shorter the better when she goes to get it cut. She has her mother's dark almond-shaped eyes that are slightly rounder than her brother's. Her face is often void of most expression, and the ones she does give are simple and usually subtle. Her voice is calm, soft, and airy. Her feminine style of dressing makes up for her lack of curves. In a bohemian-styled wardrobe of flowy skirts, dresses, and long frilly blouses, the only sort of pants Mi-Ho owns are yoga pants for dance. Her favorite type of skirt is a light wrap skirt. Every now and then she'll also wear a lovely hat, particularly of the cloche variety. She prefers soft colors, but in almost everything she wears, she will have a small accent of red somewhere, whether it's red shoes, a bow, or so on. 03. Personality Positives: Even-tempered, Independent, Competent, Decisive, Realistic Negatives: Standoffish, Disparaging, Unmotivated, Passive, Jaded Mi-Ho is one of those girls who seems perfectly approachable at a glance. She's calm and her outward air can initially come off as relaxed, if not a bit bored in expression. This is true only to an extent. Mi-Ho typically holds a passive place in the settings she finds herself in, preferring to blend in with the wallpaper and watch the world float past her. She has no desire to join in with the usual hustle and bustle of life. Instead, she holds herself quietly, disinterested in participating in even the noise of a meaningless conversation. Attempts at small talk with her usually get quickly smacked down. If someone doesn't really have something to say to her, she is of the opinion that they should stay quiet and leave her be. She is mellow and blasé without any immediate signs of being an amicable person. She holds herself with a very even temper because she tends to keep herself uninvolved with those around her. It can be difficult to get to know what's going on inside her head and even when she's on a conversational level with someone, she usually keeps the bulk of her thoughts and feelings to herself. She works out those things internally, so it's not even quite a matter of struggling with something or being intentionally secretive. She's just a very emotionally and mentally independent person with nothing to hide, but with usually no reason to share herself with others. When others around her attempt to pry her open one of two things typically happens. If she likes you and is on good terms with you, she will explain herself calmly in the bare minimum that is requested. If she doesn't like you or hardly knows you, she will just as calmly meet the prying with a verbal attack. Her natural inclination is to dislike someone before she ever considers liking them. It's not to be mean necessarily, but she just tends to dislike most people. As relaxed as she may be, the girl is equipped with a sharp tongue that is fully capable of tearing things or people down when she feels it's needed. She makes it clear when she wants you to leave her alone. Thankfully, she tends to keep her words to herself unless directly provoked. Still waters tend to run deep, and Mi-Ho is no exception to this. She is thoughtful and she does indeed have emotions that would often surprise others. While she's changed over the years in some aspects, she has always been good at keeping herself controlled. This has helped her out a great deal in life. She doesn't let harsh words or actions get to her and she can be endlessly patient. She's capable of taking difficult situations and examining them thoughtfully before taking action. If she had ever wanted to take the job, she's the sort of person who could actually survive working in customer service or with children without losing hair or gaining high blood pressure. It also helps her be a decisive person. She is usually resolute in her decisions after she has given them the proper amount of thought. Because her biggest regrets at the moment are decisions she had made too quickly or made for the sake of others, she's been more careful about making choices for herself. This competence and decisiveness, while beneficial to her in many ways, is paired with an unfortunate lack of motivation. This is where she and her brother have truly diverged in their personalities. Through her own experience, having drive and ambition has only sucked the joy out of the things she loves to do the most. She understands the importance of those qualities and to an extent she feels guilty over losing her ambition, but a question appeared in her mind. Why keep doing something that doesn't make you happy? Mi-Ho hasn't entirely figured this out for herself and instead of scrambling in circles trying to keep herself busy to fill in the gaps of her life, she has simply ceased following any definitive paths. She is figuratively standing still, unwilling to make any big life decisions until she's found the answer to her conundrum. She has always been a realist when it comes to life, though she had also believed she was capable of great things if she put her mind to it. So, she worked hard to make herself and her parents proud. What hadn't occurred to her as a young girl was that perhaps being great wasn't really what she wanted. It's only now that's she's beginning to realize that a world of being great isn't what she's necessarily looking for. She's become the sort of busy city girl who really wants to be anything but a busy city girl. While she's been keeping this in mind and preparing herself with the possibility of giving a simple life in the country a chance, she's hesitant about doing anything until certain. Mi-Ho isn't optimistic enough to believe that just walking away from her life is the answer to her problem. 04. History Seung-Sik and Ji-Ho were a happy couple of Korean immigrants who met and fell in love in the ever-busy area known as Koreantown. As they were a young pair also in love with music, they wanted only to open up a successful business that would sell and repair instruments. It would be through this that they would make friends with the stars and become financially successful in their new country. They swore to each other they would never have kids. Part of their story did pan out the way they hoped it would. The couple was married in the winter of 1992. After the unfortunate and terrifying LA riots of that same year, the real-estate and competition for business was driven far below what it once had been. So, the couple managed to afford one of the buildings that had been given up by a business moving elsewhere. That building would become their home and the home of their first business venture. It took a lot of work and a lot of what little savings they both had, but their dream was slowly getting on its feet even if it wasn't in the most desirable location of LA. They were amongst those who also went into protesting for equality rights between all minorities, so their relationship with others in the neighborhood was good. Things only took a turn in mid-1993 when Ji-Ho discovered that she was pregnant. They accepted the pregnancy with uneasiness and in 1994 Ji-Ho gave birth to twins who were named Kyu-Sik and Mi-Ho. It was a confusing time, but thankfully when it came down to it they were both happy parents who stepped up to the plate to raise the two to the best of their ability. For extra stability in their income, second jobs were had outside of running their own business. They worked hard to continue making their own dream a reality and to give their children more opportunities. Kyu-Sik and Mi-Ho were raised to be ambitious children who were just as hard-working as their parents. They had a pretty good childhood, using their imagination mostly to play games with each other before they were old enough to go to school. They learned to take care of themselves and help out around the house probably a bit younger than most, but they never resented this. Both children looked up to their parents and there was a sincere desire to make them proud. Also, the twins were inseparable, always helping each other with everything whether it was homework, dishes, sewing rips in clothes when they couldn't afford new things, or walking to the creepy old lady down the street for piano lessons. Even if their parents were in and out of the picture between the business and their second jobs, neither had to deal with the feeling of being alone. Although for the better half of Mi-Ho's life she had never questioned this, something changed in middle school that made it clear. Much like her brother, the young girl loved music. She had grown up in a busy world surrounded by music of all kinds, after all. She had played with instruments before with piano lessons and the occasional playdate with a ukulele. However, when the choice came for extracurriculars a more innocent Mi-Ho decided to take up dance rather than join her brother in the school's band. The simple fact of the matter was that the girl wanted to learn something new while still staying connected to something she loved. She hadn't even thought about the space she was putting between herself and her brother. His attitude towards the matter, though subtle, wouldn't go unnoticed by her. However, she never brought it up if only because she couldn't really understand why he was bothered. She loved being with him, sure, but she also formed a love for dance. And she got damn good at it, too. Life went on. What she wasn't expecting was that this small rift would just continue to grow to the extent she wasn't really spending that much time with Kyu-Sik at school. She took their distance and decided to experiment with it rather than be too distraught by it herself. She tried her hand at friends, spent most of her high school years as both a quiet mean girl and an ice queen, and even attempted to have a few boyfriends who were still often driven away by her brother. It helped her realize she wasn't all that interested in men anyway. Looking back on this time in her life, Mi-Ho often finds the whole thing ridiculous and amusing. However, it was an overall disappointment compared to what she thought it'd be as an ambitious younger girl. What she had learned was that she didn't necessarily like people. Most were superficial, dull, or simply not worth her time. The only things that really made her happy were dancing and laughing about her terrible experiences with her brother in the evening. Really, if life could have gone on like that forever, Mi-Ho wouldn't have complained. However, as they got older talks of going off to colleges were inevitable. Honestly, the girl was uncertain about what she wanted to do with herself. All she had was an aimless ambition built by her family paired with a love for dance and not much else. It made sense to look into dance schools. She didn't really think about her brother in the matter until he surprised her by finally bringing it up himself. Discussions were had, agreements were made. If Kyu-Sik could get into the school he wanted, she would go to New York with him and try to find a school that would take her there. She could be happy with that. Unfortunately, that just wasn't the way things panned out. He was rejected and went into a slump she'd never seen him in before. Unsure of how to respond, she decided it was best to not put her own life on hold just to wait for him to recover. After applying and auditioning for a few schools, Mi-Ho found herself in a dance school in San Francisco. So began many months of practice, practice, practice. At first she enjoyed the new setting. It seemed a bit more laid back than Los Angeles and she was doing something she enjoyed. However, she started growing weary after a few months. She found many of the other dancers shallow, and plenty others were so overly competitive that they would always find a chance to make how much longer they had been dancing known. The friends she did make there were either pretentious or too unassuming for her tastes. There were few in the middle of the spectrum and she was too much of an introvert to bother looking too far. In all fairness, she half expected all of these things to be the way they were. The only problem was she found all of her hard work in that environment draining. Any joy she once found in dance was slowly being taken away until finally she was just tired of it. She had never done it because she wanted to be the best, so the standards and pressures placed upon her there were off-putting. She was talented and very capable, yes. However, she was just unwilling to go on. Having completed one year at the school, she had already waved a quiet white flag and declared a hiatus from the establishment. She continues to tell people it's just for the year, but in actuality it is indefinite until she can resolve her lack of motivation. Unfortunately, coming home wasn't quite what she had expected it would be. She found her brother still in a slump and the divide between them was clearer than ever. There were no happy reunions. When most siblings fight, they lash out at each other with name-calling or straight up physical violence. When the Moon siblings fight, it's more of a long stint of passive-aggressive communications and actions until one finally snaps. They talk normally and still frequently, but they stop really telling each other things. They behave normally enough, but they will refuse to give the recognition that they are as close as they are. To the untrained eye, they seem just like a perfectly normal pair of siblings going about their daily routines. However, to the better versed, it's clear that Kyu-Sik and Mi-Ho have been in an subdued battle that's been dragging on for over a year. Mi-Ho is silently upset with her brother for acting as he has been and Kyu-Sik refuses to reopen the topic. Both are essentially doing nothing until something happens. 05. Extras » She's fluent in only English. However, she has picked up a great deal of Korean and a little Spanish from her parents and the area. She also spent three years in high school studying French. » It can be noted that she has an unspoken preference to walk barefoot. It is not unusual to see her walking around without shoes in warm months, just carrying her flipflops or flats to wear when she needs to. » She can cook, but this does not mean everything she makes is delicious. She doesn't believe in wasting any food and when all else fails she will turn to the frier. Don't recognize that meat in the freezer? Fry it. That carrot looks a bit too old? Fry it. And if she cooks something for you, you will eat it. Her specialty is grilled tofu. » Just like the rest of her family, she has a love for modern folk or jazz. She also has a taste for bluegrass with that mix. Aside from taking the typical childhood piano lessons, she did enjoy plucking away at ukuleles and banjos when she was younger. She's capable of playing both fairly well. |
