Someday I know it'll all turn out
It happened so fast that she wasn't sure what was going on. The people were singing happy birthday and then the waiter caught wind. He ran to the chef, who then proceeded to bellow in Spanish that they had a birthday guest.
The next thing she knew there was confetti, guitars, loud singing, and a sombrero was on her head. She blushed so hard that she was afraid that steam might erupt from her pores. "Feliz Compleanos~ Feliz Compleanos~ Feliz Compleanosssssss~ Feliz Compleanos!" The singing barely stopped as they brought around a huge slice of Tres Leches cake and set it down in front of her with a sparkler candle.
Lukas's grin earned a scowl from Ana as she wore embarrassment like a second skin. Oh that son of a-- She picked up her phone and shut it off just as the guitar player finished his strumming and the crowd of waiters around them erupted into cheers and applause. Ana managed a watery smile before licking her finger and pinching the wick of the candle out. Her look clearly said 'I'll kill you' as he pointed out the cake.
"Really? A cake? Gosh Lukas, I didn't notice! I thought we were being serenaded at random." The sombrero jingled as she moved and reached for the strawberry margarita that the waiter put down in front of them. She was vaguely questioning if she could get away with pushing the cake into his face. She'd just picked it up when he asked how old she was. Deciding to play it safe, she took a big bite of the cake and immediately the sugar flooded her mouth. The sugar appeased part of her temper, but she bumped his foot with her foot in a half-kick for good measure. "Jack ass."
She took another bite of cake before offering him a form and motioning to the cake. Like hell she was eating it all by herself. "I'm twenty-one now, so I can eat, drink, and be merry." She shook her head at him and the bells dangling from the sombrero jingled pleasantly. She nearly went cross eyed to glare at the jubilant bells.

[style=color: #ab3b2d; font-family: garamond; font-size: 13px; font-style: italic; text-align: center; text-transform: uppercase; line-height: 1px;]WORDS: 482 TAG: Ana “The hat is kinda a nice touch.” he spoke in a tone bordering on a level of nonchalant that could be compared to someone commenting on the color of your carpet when compared to your wallpaper. He wasn't terribly surprised by the assault on his outstretched legs and pretended he hadn't even noticed it, entirely too pleased with himself to be put off by her ire. It hadn't been his best day, he had to take his giggles where he could get them...and boy was that a good one. He suspected karma would come to bite him on his ass on his own birthday, but he'd defeat that problem in a month or so. For now, Ana was offering him free cake and, while he wasn't a big sweet tooth, cake was cake – he wasn't going to say no. He took a couple bites as she replied to his question about her age, and he paused the cake consumption a moment.
“Well I guess after that you probably...need a drink.” he responded, shit-eating green still in place. “Remind me to thank whoever called you that was amazing.” He sat up straight and folded his legs to hook under his chair so she couldn't reach to kick him anymore as he said it, well aware she would likely be after him. He gave her a smug look as he did it, and relaxed in his new position before going back to snatching a small bite of the cake settled between them. However, this new revelation that today was her birthday brought a few questions to his mind now that he could stop to think about it. Why the hell hadn't she said something? What, was she having the woman issue of hating getting old? For that matter he came to the realization he'd sort of accidentally bought her a gift for it, in a way – how ironic.
“Shouldn't you be at home having a party, or with your family, not out amusing me while I'm avoiding my apartment? Could have just told me, I would have gone and visited my uncle.” he inquired, his tone finally dropping its usual sarcasm as he asked a legitimate question. Why he couldn't exactly draw a parallel to it, wasn't spending time with your bodyguard similar to spending time with your boss? Being hovered over and watched like something might go wrong? Ell, not that he really...hovered but he didn't need to. Out in the open like this, if anything nasty decided to jump out at them, he would see it a mile away. Then again she did look like she wanted to kill him a moment ago – he would have said she was too afraid to tell him to go away due to his status with the mob but...no, no, that was pretty much laughable with what he'd seen of how...outspoken she was.

Someday I know it'll all turn out
Ana flicked one of the jingle bell balls that hung from the rim of her hat as he complimented it. He wasn't even phased by her kicking him in the foot, she noted. The cake was beginning to appease her temper though so the glaring became less as she settled more into her chair. It was shading her fair skin even more than the patio... deciding to go along with it (since sombreros weren't randomly given out this often) she didn't take it off.
"I /have/ a drink Lukas." She held up the magarita that was halfway gone. When had that happened? She was already beginning to feel some of the sugar rush on her empty stomach. Wait, wasn't drinking on empty bad?
Oops.
"That was my family." She didn't mind spending time with them, but there were a few days where she couldn't. Her birthday was one of those days. "They're planning a surprise birthday party for me when I walk back into the restaurant. I go out every year, and every year when I come home around dinner, the restaurant is closed and all of my family, friends, their friends, and the like are in the restaurant. The best food is prepared from casseroles to cakes, we eat, we drink, we're loud, and I get presents. But every day leading up to my birthday that week is /hell/. They make sure I have a hard time so I go out voluntarily."
Oh she'd caught onto their ploys awhile ago, but this past week had been hell on it's own with zombies, holding onto Lukas... well that wasn't exactly hell since he was warm, attractive, and had actually held her and been nice about it. "Which reminds me, I'm inviting you. You'll get free food, probably a thank you present for keeping me out all day, and you'll get to stay out of the house." She toyed with the cherries on the side of the plate and scooped one up as nonchalantly as she could. "You don't have to bring a gift or anything," seeing as there was a two hundred dollar dress under the table. "But I'd... you know, like for you to come." She didn't dare look up as she closed her eyes to enjoy the cherry.
That and she knew that if she looked up, there would be a shit eating grin on his face. She just knew it! Could she help that she was used to him? Hell, he'd bought her a dress. Sure she knew that she dressed like a frumpy lesbian widow who didn't get out that much. It kept people at bay. Today she was actually showing skin. Ah! The shame! Her ankles were showing! A smile crossed her mouth as she opened her eyes again. "So, how 'bout it? Wanna come?" She was flirting without even noticing as she looked at him and toyed with the spoon. Her whole demeanor was slowly changing into a coy and playful state of mind.
Lord Lukas, what have you done to the poor child?

[style=color: #ab3b2d; font-family: garamond; font-size: 13px; font-style: italic; text-align: center; text-transform: uppercase; line-height: 1px;]WORDS: 583 TAG: Ana He had to wonder what terrible things she could really have put upon her in regards to her birthday...then again he only had his own to compare to, and he didn't...hate them, but they weren't normally terribly thrilling, either. His own consisted of two possibilities – one being a high end shindig involving most the upper echelon of the Russians, or himself alone in a hotel room with a call from his boss, his uncle, maybe one or two of his longtime allies amongst the mafia and a few cupcakes to himself. Neither were entirely thrilling, but he took some consolation at each birthday that passed – hey, it meant he'd survived a year in an occupation with a viciously high mortality rate, right? That merited for something.
As soon as she finished speaking about going out voluntarily, he spoke, tone amused again. “Could be worse. You could have a huge group of 'friends' take you out for your initiation into the legal drinking world.” He raised his hand as he said it, expression not entirely amused. “You wouldn't have believed the hangover. Which is funny, the idea of any of my associates celebrating something being legalized...I think they just wanted an excuse to pour vodka down me.” 'In other words it was my initiation into becoming Russian.' That's what it had felt like, anyway. He may have been born and raised in New York, but he was also raised amongst the Russians that lived there and controlled the place – even if he wasn't a native of Russia he was considered one of them. It helped understanding their native tongue, for that matter.
He was taken a bit by surprise, though, when she extended him an invite, and he tilted his chin down so he could peer at her from over the rims of his sunglasses, eyebrows lifted in an expression that mirrored his surprise. He was quiet for the moment as she explained about the food and festivities, trying to lure him in to coming. He was waiting, at first, for her to finish, but got decided distracted when she chose to enjoy the cherry from her cake a but too much. Yes, he was trained to retain himself and he could but damn that was just unfair. His expression barely changed but his gaze fixated on her lips for a second and his eyebrows rose a bit further, and he wouldn't deny he was caught toying with the idea of actually pulling her into a nice private booth somewhere for the briefest of seconds.
Then he was sucked back to reality and his eyes fixed back on hers as she spoke again, attempting to gain his response for her invite. He was instantly sobered, annoyed and sure that was her revenge for his display when they'd been browsing dresses for her. He took it all in stride, however, and was unfazed as he finally gave his answer. “Well, well, I knew you liked me but birthday invites, goodness, what a commitment that is. Obviously the next step to get married – but that can wait for the weekend.” he expressed, his tone only slightly exaggerated as he took a quick bite of cake, took a half a second to chew and swallow it, before he confirmed with a “It's a lot more fun sounding than spending time with my uncle, who will manipulate me into hard or degrading work faster than you can say 'he never knew what hit him'”

Someday I know it'll all turn out
"Seeing as I've been drinking since I was sixteen, the initiation wouldn't be so bad." Her family had cousins who owned a brewery downtown. They got free beer all the time. Ana hadn't been one to over consume alcohol, but beer didn't exactly phase her. Now this sugary concoction? That was an entirely different story. Ana grinned at Lukas when he mentioned this fiasco was about him, and the vodka. "Your whole family is Russian, I'd be surprised if they didn't do something like that."
Great, he was giving her a look of surprise now. What, was it so hard to believe that she wanted him to come with her? He kept giving her a look as she took that moment to eat the giant cherry they had so graciously left on their piece of cake. It was innocent, at least at first, as she ate. He was surprisingly quiet though as he merely stared at her and then dropped his gaze from her eyes. Ana lifted an eyebrow back in challenge. He wasn't looking down her shirt, but just below her nose. Her mouth perhaps? She paused in eating as a little light bulb went off and she had to contain herself from grinning out right.
Well well well Mister Madeline, she thought. Looks like you aren't as unaffected as you pretend to be. Nothing could have given her more of a feminine thrill then that moment as she finished eating the cherry and casually drank again. The waiter would be back soon to take their order, or at least she hoped. Cake and magaritas didn't exactly cut it you know. "I suppose it'll have to wait til the weekend, I don't have a white dress yet. Although eloping to an island doesn't sound half bad either," she joked back.
Ana brightened degree by degree as he said that he'd go. "Good! If you can handle a birthday with Russians and Vodka, then I'm sure you can handle a boat load of Germans with dark beers. There'll be table dancing and good times all around." The waiter chose that moment to come back and held the pen and pad expectantly.
"Two checks or one?"
"Two please. I'd like--" She placed her order for taco salad and waited for Lukas to place his.

[style=color: #ab3b2d; font-family: garamond; font-size: 13px; font-style: italic; text-align: center; text-transform: uppercase; line-height: 1px;]WORDS: 463 TAG: Ana The rest of the time spent with her passed without much of an incident – at least, none bordering on suggesting sex in a changing room or suggestive fruit eating. A few jibes at each others expense, perhaps, but nothing beyond that. By the time Lukas had called the car back around to pick them back to up take them back to the restaurant for Ana's party, it was just barely coming up on noon. The assassin sent a message to Rayna from his phone to let her know he'd be gone for a good few hours, and he received a hilariously well-timed message from a one Yuri Kravec, also known as Lukas' boss, right as they pulled up to her family's restaurant to wish the young woman a happy birthday for him.
Apparently, his boss knew more than he did, and as always, was aware what his agents were up to. She was damn lucky – having the boss owe you his life made him consider you well worth his attention and goodwill. Well, for a while, anyway. Lukas knew her protection was assured for a while, which meant this was going to end up a long-term job for him. Sigh. Well, he'd been given the choice to refuse, he supposed – choice being used lightly, smart people didn't refuse a favor asked from their boss.He flashed Ana the message from Kravec on his phone before the two of them stepped out of the car, and Lukas eyed the restaurant before them, amused by how eerily quiet it was.
Oh yeah that didn't look fishy at all. If he didn't know better he'd almost be wary there was an ambush waiting...well, in a way, it was an ambush. Just one that fired confetti at you, not bullets. The former was safer but the latter was, admittedly, more of an adrenaline rush – to be fair though Lukas still preferred the confetti – the scar on his shoulder was enough reminder what happened with the other one.
“It's like knowing you're walking into a terrible trap but doing it anyway.” he commented to her as he made his way to the front door, pulling his sunglasses off finally and pocketing them, albeit a little regretfully. He made a show of opening the door for her, bending lightly at the waist in a half-bow and flourishing his hand in an exaggerated movement to gesture her inside. “Birthday ladies first.” he said, expression matching his mocking tone to a T. He waited for her to go in, and he followed, slinging the bag he'd be carrying from their mall trip over his shoulder as he moved, standing near the door just as the activity interrupted around them, though he didn't even flinch from the 'surprise'.

Someday I know it'll all turn out
The rest of the afternoon was wonderful. Ana couldn't remember having so much fun, as sad as that sounded. Lukas kept her on her toes, they fought, they bickered, they made fun of each other, and she ended up looping an arm through his and buying him an ice cream before the day was over. No one's feelings got hurt, and they had a couple of bags of stuff just for themselves.
Ana was thrilled when Yuri sent her a birthday wish and she immediately took his phone and typed back her own message. Something along the lines of "Thank you so much sir! Sincerely Ana" before handing it back to him. That had earned a glower but she didn't care, she was in too good of a mood to care.
The car dropped them off at the restaurant and she eyed the doors before Lukas opened one and motioned her in. Little devil. Ana eyed him next and dropped her bags right inside the doorway when the lights went on and confetti went everywhere. People jumped out of nooks and crannies she didn't know were possible, all of them yelling 'Surprise!' at the top of her lungs. No matter how many times it had happened, it always scared her half to death when a mob of people jumped out of the dark. A rush of hugs assaulted her as she was pulled into the throng of people, quickly followed by Ana's little sister grabbing Lukas and pulling him inside, then locking the door and pulling the window shades down behind him.
Food was immediately set out and the taps flowed freely. Ana squeezed through people and reached Lukas and took him by the hand and started for the bar. "It gets kinda crazy in here!" She yelled over the clamor of music and voices. She managed to wiggle her way to an empty spot at the bar. "Order whatever you like, and enjoy yourself. Just remember - just because you're Russian doesn't mean you can out drink me." She winked at him as one of her cousins worked the taps like a skilled magician, building this or that in lagers or pints.

[style=color: #ab3b2d; font-family: garamond; font-size: 13px; font-style: italic; text-align: center; text-transform: uppercase; line-height: 1px;]WORDS: 651 TAG: Ana The redhead followed her through the crowd with little encouragement, deciding the display at the restaurant was more amusing though this promised more fun for himself, at least. He seemed unfazed by the loudness and the amount of people, as it was something he was used to, and navigated the crowd after her with ease. He took a seat next to her at the bar, smirking at her challenge. He knew better than to make any bets involving drinking – he wasn't completely stupid – but that didn't stop him from silently accepting the challenge she put forth. Silently being the important part so that way, she couldn't hold him to anything.
The time passed quicker than he expected, with Lukas in his element playing sociable and mingling and generally just putting on that likeable mask for the benefit of others. Ana had seen the switch before – his attitude shifted, the way he spoke, the way he spoke to others, all shifted when he was thrown into a sociable environment, and you would never know he was being a smartass from his tone when speaking to others, but he knew Ana would likely be able to see through a lot of his bullshit scattered here and there throughout the afternoon spent there. Luckily he still didn't lack for politeness - he smiled genuinely, he greeted the members of her family he was familiar with and introduced himself to any others they happened to pass across that seemed curious about him (naturally any of those he had to claim to be her friend because obviously 'bodyguard' wouldn't go well). In general, for a crowd that only half knew him, he was perceived with decent positivity.
The assassin had shamelessly indulged to the invite for consuming alcohol, for that matter, and while he definitely wasn't a lightweight, he'd drank enough by the time the buzz started to die down and people started to filter out that he could feel the light hum in the base of his skull and the sensation of slight euphoria to tell him that if he drank anymore he'd start losing his more vital inhibitions. Drunk, definitely not, but tipsy, yeah. He watched another small cluster of people leave from his spot leaning against a wall, exchanging hugs with Ana and her family before bustling out, figuring it was about time to see himself out as well. He pulled his phone out to see the time – pushing close to 4pm – and sent a quick message to his driver, who he knew would still take a good ten to fifteen minutes to get here. He'd debated walking – the fresh air would have been good to sober him up – but he felt lazy and content to inconvenience someone else.
He smirked at Ana when she came to sit in a chair just to his left, swilling what was left of his last drink before he downed it, holding the glass until he could find somewhere to set it down. The activity during the party had been so abundant that he'd had little opportunity to harass her – beyond maybe goading her about keeping up with his own drinking habits – and it jut didn't feel right leaving everything on such a peaceful note. God forbid she saw him make a normal exit. “Don't get comfy there. You're gonna come keep me company while I wait for my ride.” he told her idly, pushing himself away from the wall and offering a hand out to her. His speech was still clear and concise, giving no hint towards his slight inebriated state, though his gaze was a bit unfocused, so anyone observant would be able to tell his mind wasn't 100% present. Then again, he was sure at least half of the rest of the party-goers weren't far off from him, of varying degrees of worse or better.

The next thing Ana knew, there were presents everywhere, along with tables upon tables of food. Her parents did this every year, but she still had no idea how they managed without going empty in the kitchen. The food smelt delicious and she snagged a cupcake and nearly moaned at how wonderful it was. Sugary concoctions? Hand'm over. The cupcake went well with the beer, in her opinion, as she carried her own lager. Lukas was doing swimmingly well, she noticed. She only choked on her drink twice when she caught something he said that sounded suspicious. He was so damn nice! At least in situations like this.
Ana drank through three lagers through the afternoon into the early night. The party would wind down soon, she knew. What she was more excited about was the food. Her favorite things had been cooked and she got to enjoy a plate of good home cooking while she nursed her second lager. After that, it was cake. Lots and lots of cake. When they sat down to sing, Lukas had managed to be on the other side of creation. Cameras went off, jokes were shouted over the crowd, and she was given a tiara and a boat load of beads to wear around her neck. From there it was mingle here, mingle there, and eat cake off a plate. Eventually Ana switched from the dark brew to a soft white wine - because wine went better with cake then beer did - when she started seeing people out the door. Happily buzzed, Ana waved people off with a flush on her face and a big grin.
She spotted Lukas at a table and made a bee line over to him to sit down with him, her wine glass already half gone. Her mood was sky high at the moment as she sat with her friend. Somewhere in the madness she'd slipped out of her shoes. "Don't get comfy? I'm the princess, I can get comfy where I wan' to." She adjusted the tiara in her hair with a smile before started getting up. He offered her a hand and Ana took it, hauling herself back up. She downed the rest of the wine glass and then left it on the table as she followed after him. Ana kept her hand loose in his as she followed after him and out the back door to where the small side street was. She bumped into him a few times and merely offered him a grin as an apology as they walked. She'd let her hair down sometime in the night and the full length of it fell down her back and almost to her waist. "Did'ja have fun?"

[style=color: #ab3b2d; font-family: garamond; font-size: 13px; font-style: italic; text-align: center; text-transform: uppercase; line-height: 1px;]WORDS: 585 TAG: Ana He led her along towards the door, weaving past the few stragglers of the party, surprisingly steady on his feet despite his slightly distant expression. Tipsy or not he was trained to maintain himself well – he supposed he could show more of his mental state if he wanted to...but he didn't, really. Which was lucky seeing as the dark-haired woman attached to his hand was a bit less sure of her steps than he was, so even when she bumped into him a few times he remained as steady as ever, though he did mentally note her own inebriated state with amusement. Considering it was her twenty-first she got off easy – he distinctly remembered the last friend's twenty-first he went to and how before the party was even over he was passed out on the floor in the game room. As the two got outside his mind was temporarily cleared by the fresh air, and he moved to lean against the wall of the building just in case he did lose his footing, shooting her his usual, perpetually amued smirk and hooded eyes as she posed a question at him.
“Mmm, yeah.” he hummed absently, sinking his weight on one hip. “You're lucky I'm so charming, your family didn't even seem to mind this unknown male who claimed to be a 'friend' that followed you around from time to time. I did get those looks at first...the hair and the piercings always seem to give that shifty first impression.” He decidedly didn't mention he was fairly sure one of her aunts got the wrong impression from him and though he'd been flirting with her and five minutes later he'd been met with a glaring husband as his wife talked tipsily to the redhead. His notoriety with older woman struck again, even with something as laid back and simple as Ana's birthday party. It was sort of a running joke...well, a running joke he kept to himself, mostly, both amusing and frustrating at the same time.
“This also knocks out my bi-weekly run to a bar, to boot. Oooh how Rayna is gonna bitch about that one.” he commented, tone hazily amused. The two of them often would make a bar run after some jobs, and as of recent the two had made more and more excuses for it, mostly due to wanting to somewhat drown their problems. Lukas wasn't the type to drink away any mental problems – at least not extremely – imply because it was irresponsible for someone like him (having a hangover and aiming a gun at the same time was ridiculously hard), but getting tipsy and forgetting about some things every now and then was a nice release.
“So, did you get everything you wanted?” he asked her, debating various ways he could toy with the girl before his car arrived in a little bit. Admittedly it was something of a heavy-handed push to see if she made any mocking comments, or even suggestive ones. He wouldn't deny (at least to himself) that his already flirtatious nature only got worse with booze. It also made it harder for him to resist impulses that were better left ignored...hell he was lucky he managed to resist leaning on her...leaning meaning, naturally, draping himself across her shoulders, but he was trying so very hard to maintain his...well, professionalism wasn't quite the right word...respect? He wasn't sure. Something along those lines. Until he felt the moment called for him to drop it, anyway.

Can we say happy? Ana felt the steady hum in the back of her mind as she followed Lukas along. Tonight /had/ been great. She hadn't had so much fun in a long time, especially not at a birthday party her parents had thrown for her. Normally it was a small group of high school friends and then boat loads of family. At least this time she'd gotten to shop and dragged Lukas around with her.
Lukas, amusingly enough, had been the high light of the party. Mysterious red headed male with Ana? Everyone, of course, had to know more. Friend, lover, secret boyfriend, all the questions had been asked and answered with various degrees of yes or no. Ana had shrugged it off and was following said friend slash secret lover boyfriend (according to her family at least) outside. He leaned up against a wall and she leaned against it next to him. Was her arm still tangled with his? She glanced down. Yep, it was! And she was barefoot. When had that happened again?
"My baby sister thinks you're a secret popstar, and demanded to have your phone number." Ana gave him a lazy grin. "You're so lucky you're listed as 'stalker' under my phone contacts instead of 'Lukas'. Otherwise she'd be sending you duck face photos by now." Ah... the stupidity of sixteen year old gils infatuated. It was a scary thing. "My spinster aunt, however, thought you were attractive. My other aunt - the drunk blond who's husband loomed over you - also said that you were attractive. I think she's already begun to ship us together."
She leaned her head back against the cool brick of the side of the restaurant. The street was alive with sounds, but the noisy party had died down a bit, thankfully. Everyone was off to bed or home. All that stood between her and a shower was the red head she had linked arms with. "Hmm?" Did you get everything you wanted? Ana thought over the list of presents she'd gotten. Most of it had been gift cards and money. "I got one present, although I'm not sure what it is. I /think/ it's an inflatable boyfriend." She remembered the box now, it was some celebrity blow up, from her younger brother. "Personally, I'd rather have a boyfriend who won't pop under pressure, but that's just me. My brother has a great sense of humor, obviously." Ana already knew what she was going to do with it too. The moment her brother was dead asleep, she was blowing it up and putting it into bed with /him/.

[style=color: #ab3b2d; font-family: garamond; font-size: 13px; font-style: italic; text-align: center; text-transform: uppercase; line-height: 1px;]WORDS: 682 TAG: Ana “There are so many things about that sentence I can make a joke at I can't even pick one.” he'd admitted, which was, hilariously, true. The secret popstar thing was amusing for the fact that Lukas actually had a decent singing voice - though he'd rather it not be known so he kept it to himself lest anyone ask him to sing, so that joke was out of the question, anyway. Ana only made relaying what her family thought even more amusing, and the redhead chuckled deeply at the mention of her family apparently approving greatly of him. Oh, if only they knew. But, that was his game, wasn't it – charm them so they'd never guess he was one of the bad guys people told their kids about. Trained to blend, socialize – the snake in the grass...he as actually ridiculously proud of it. He suspected if he ever told anyone he got his jollies out of pulling the wool over everyone's eyes, he'd be thrown in an asylum. Silly social norms and morality.
“There's also a million comments about the irony of your family approving of me but I'll just be good and keep my mouth shut before I get both of us in trouble.” he had noted in an even, noncommittal fashion after her commentary about her family, eyes reflecting the dozens of smartass remarks as he looked at her. Luckily, despite brain functions being a bit slow, alcohol didn't remove his brain-to-mouth filter – if it did, he'd have been in jail a decade ago – so the jokes about women being attracted to bad boys and ones about how mafia wives tended to be even more ruthless than their husbands so Ana didn't quite fit the bill were reigned in. More as a precaution of in case anyone was listening – he was paranoid enough to assume the worst.
To top off all this the fact her brother had given her a blow up boyfriend actually made him emit an undignified snort – and he lifted his hand that wasn't being held hostage to cover his mouth in an attempt to pretend the sound hadn't come from him. Instead it was just more incriminating. Giving up, he let out a few choking laughs as she made a comment about wanting a boyfriend that wouldn't...'pop under pressure' (the insinuation and jokes that flooded his mind were ridiculous, but he was too busy laughing and waiting for her to finish to form a properly delivered one). “Its times like this I'm glad I don't have siblings. And the idiots who want to think I'm like a sibling are too scared of me to do anything like that...save for maybe two or three and I think they're just not creative enough.” he admitted after a few final halting snickers, which was a true enough assessment – he could see Vasha getting him a gag gift, if he didn't have to maintain that 'professionalism' that the family heads seemed so aught up in. Small mercies.
There was a few moments pause before he came up with a wicked idea, and, attempting to reveal nothing of it, he tilted his head sideways and pinned her with a smirk and an obviously exaggerated pitying tone. “So, money and a gag gift. No proper, tangible, surprises. How sad.” And, before she could properly respond, he reached over with his free hand and hooked it under her chin, pushing himself half off the wall so he didn't have to crane his neck in a painful sideways position, and dipped his head to press his lips against hers for a very brief second. Brief for one very important reason - he was fully expecting her to hit him for it. When he pulled back he grinned wickedly at her, poised to dodge whatever she threw at him. “There, now, you can properly say you got a surprise gift.” was the explanation, because 'you set yourself up for me to mess with you' would have probably resulted in him getting kicked between the legs instead of hit.

Ana hadn't expected that when she woke up this morning, she'd have a slick Russian making the moves on her. She had expected a family 'dinner' and lots of beer, maybe a few friends. But never this.
It happened so fast that she wasn't even sure it had happened. One minute Lukas was talking about giving her exactly what she wanted, and the next his lips were pressed up against hers. Ana blinked rapidly and color flushed her face so quickly that she almost felt light headed. The kiss lasted a grand total of maybe three seconds, but she felt her head spin from it.
Then the snarky red head leaned back with a smug look on his face. Well now you've gotten a surprise present from me. He'd bought her dress and shoes earlier, did that not count? Wait, he'd kissed her. As in mouth to mouth. Ana raised a hand to her mouth and tried to say something, but no words came out. Instead her mouth sort of open and closed like a goldfish before she managed to get some of her wits around her. "You call that a kiss?!" It was better to pretend, to try and hide the fact that she was flustered and her heart was hammering now.

[style=color: #ab3b2d; font-family: garamond; font-size: 13px; font-style: italic; text-align: center; text-transform: uppercase; line-height: 1px;]WORDS: 504 TAG: None, Finished! When he wasn't met with an affronted expression or at least a light smack on his shoulder, he paused for a brief second, confused. Instead she just looked...oh Jesus, maybe he'd miscalculated just a little bit in his haze. The fact of the matter was, Lukas was a notorious tease and flirt and he took just about any act of...intimacy, affection, whatever you wanted to call it, with a grain of salt. It never meant much of anything to him, and he'd done it to mess with her, assuming she would react negatively, because god forbid she think good of him before he left. Her buttons were far too easy to push.
This...wasn't quite what he'd had in mind when the idea struck him. 'Well shit, Madeleine, nice going, now she's going to like you even more instead of being annoyed.' He restrained a sigh at the thought, and rallied himself on this new path he'd managed to somehow create. Someone had to have a level head here, tipsy or not, and if the way her face was burning and the way she spoke was any hint, it sure as hell wasn't her. “You gotta work for something better.” he replied to her accusation simply, tone low but the vague flash of teeth and look in his eye suggested more of an entertained tone, rather than a suggestive one. Like he hadn't even missed a step even when she reacted far differently than he expected – he recovered fast like that.
He supposed he shouldn't be encouraging her in any way, seeing as this would probably end in some report to his boss about him leading her on rather than remaining professional, but he'd cross that hurdle when it came. For now, though, his cue to leave had arrived, with perfect timing and everything – a small black car had pulled up at the end of the building near them, the driver obviously looking at him – he supposed the man had had to drive around to find him. With a smirk and a wave at the driver, he pulled himself away from whatever support the nearby wall had given him, composing himself before he made his decidedly graceful exit.
“Ride's here. Behave yourself.” he said cheerfully, reaching up momentarily to rest his hand atop her head and unceremoniously ruffled her hair, paying no mind to any protests she gave as he carefully measured his steps to the car waiting at the end of the building. It would really ruin his image if the earth decided to sway and he stumbled, so he focused most his efforts on making sure he walked as smoothly as he normally did. He managed to get to the car and slide in the backseat with no mishaps, allowing himself a snicker as she shut the door with a soft slam. He absent-mindedly told the driver the address before leaning back to breathe and relax in his attempt to clear his mind. Well, this was certainly a new development.
