When the attention was placed on him and the fact of his weapons, he froze, seemed to think for a brief second, before lifting his hands in feigned defeat, smirk flashing on his face for a brief second. Then, he made a grand show of bending a leg back to life to his hand, reaching to his ankle and removing the derringer there, tossing it blatantly aside, uncaring where it landed (and somewhat hoping someone would dive for it and make a proper distraction for him). This thing, whatever it was – it seemed confused, disoriented...and even if it wasn't, how was one to tell that wasn't his only weapon? The curved blade of his favorite knife was still concealed carefully along his wrist under his sleeve, there was a switchblade in his pocket if that went, and the much more powerful handgun still tucked at his chest. The derringer was not a loss, really – but it made for a very good prop at the moment.
Let them think he was disarmed. Now, however, he was going to have to play the role of the false government agent as a show to those who realized he was armed, which he suspected was few with the large distraction here but better safe than sorry. He wore no guilt on his face, carefully impassive as his eyes made a quick sweep of the room, and just as he was about to slip away to look for another exit, the comment made by the man who was being asked about a noble made him stutter to a slight stop. He recovered fast, however, pretending to ignore that exchange, as if there wasn't three bodies left in the room over there. 'I'll just carefully not comment and hope no one goes to look. Hopefully they assume he escaped...I'll play the 'yeah that was me I ran over to help them get out' game.'
His attention was immediately drawn back to the center of the room when attention was fixed on them, and Lukas was horrified to find the thing speaking to him. Well, he assumed it was him, it was hard to tell with something that didn't have eyes. He was tense and wanting to back away at the first word, but held his ground, knowing better than to back down to anything. However, he wasn't mentally prepared for what was thrown at him. At first, it was nonsensical – what kingdom? What, was this thing raised on fairy tales? However, the fire threw him off guard, and for the smallest of slit seconds, his eyebrows rose and his entire body stiffened, expression reading pure shock as his mind flashed images of a woman with enhancements and a particular fixation on him being engulfed in flames that had came at his feet.
Immediately, he shoved the mental images away and yanked himself back into reality, hoping Nolan's eye wasn't trained enough to notice how shaken he was in that brief moment, his stance and face falling back to the feigned certainty. Unable to think of a better response than his typical attitude, his response fell into that category accordingly. “This would be Los Angeles, and I'm of the government.” he retorted, dry snark filtering in his tone, the false confidence and defiance properly in his voice, but the strain was there as well – it was in his clenched knuckles, his slightly stiff shoulders, his startled eyes. Nevertheless, he pressed on. “Speak in a way we can understand, yeah?”

Not a single answer was one that Magnus had been looking for. In fact these answers only made him have more questions, maybe it was time to go about things a different way. Magnus turned his head towards the ceiling, the flaps on his neck opened and closed once again. The man with the high temperature suggested to Magnus that he had to be from the Fire Kingdom, and yet he could tell that the man was honestly confused. If he thought about it carefully there was a chance that he was not in a kingdom, or maybe the Kingdoms were no more? Magnus had not been around during the main war, so of course he did not know about the history that he had missed. If the kingdoms were no more then there was no reason for him to rage a new war, instead he could just take over, less screaming that way, but first he needed to make sure.
Los Angeles? The government? I do not know of these places or things. So you are telling me none of you humans know of the Kingdom we are in? There is no Noble? This makes little sense. How am I to start a war with no kingdom to take over? Logic had left quiet a while ago as the large bug was more concern with starting a war on the Kingdom that had sealed him away. He wanted their noble to bow before him and beg for her life, this was not acceptable. Magnus continued to be confused, but moved away from Lukas and Nolen to come back to the man that had answered him before.
I will try to explain again, I, Magnus am in search of the Earth Kingdom and their Noble. I wish to destroy them for forcing my sleep under the earth and to give my army a new home ruling the Earth Kingdom. There maybe if he cleared things up he would get a better answer. The flaps on his neck continued to open and close as he tried to detect fear, truth and any other signs from the humans that could help answer his questions.

tagged: group one. date: may 2nd, just before midnight. notes: notes. In between being confused as hell as to what, exactly, the giant talking bug was, Moose still had time to wonder just what the bug had stumbled upon. Two men, both so heavily armed, and neither of them was a guard. Who were they? Why were they there? And why so heavily armed? Those sorts of questions would need answers eventually, but knowing Moose he'd simply forget to ask them in the heat of the moment, and forget them entirely by the time the whole disaster was over.
Which was getting ahead of himself, because he wasn't sure it would ever be over, or even if he'd make it out alive. He'd been in plenty of situations that could have ended in his death, but generally he had a better understanding of what was going on in this situations. The intricacies of machismo and gang warfare was something he understood--all that blabber about nobles and fire didn't help him at all.
Government. The man said he was government, and that didn't really help Moose at all. He didn't know anything about any of the major government agencies. He'd dealt with cops and prison guards, and those were about as close as it got to... what, a secret agent? Most of his understanding was from bad movies.
The clarification didn't help at all. Not one tiny bit. The earth kingdom? The noble? Moose hadn't heard of any of that shit. For now, at least, he remained quiet. The bug was talking to the spies or whatever--let them answer. Maybe it was some secret crap normal people didn't know about.

The shrieking was suddenly cut off as the bug threatened to eat everyone in the room. Wasn't it going to do that anyway?? Lola fell silent with the crowd as people cowered along the walls. She still held the chair leg, but her stance loosened. A cake was brought in and the bug gave it a 'how dare you' look before eating the cake and the cake carriers whole. She wrinkled her nose as the bug approached two men in suits, demanding them to disarm themselves.
She could hear most of the conversation. Kingdoms? This was America, states sectioned off with borders and government under an elected official - there was no kingdom here. Hell, America had never been a kingdom, it'd been a /colony/ set. The officials made a show of disarming themselves and she shook her head. Only one gun? If they were government, she was sure that was just the obvious pieces they had. The clutch around her wrist dangled from it's wrist strap as she loosely held the make shift bat to her side.
Until that bug directly started talking to her, she wasn't going to /dare/ make a sound. Mentally though she was just as confused as Magnus was. There was no earth kingdom - this wasn't Avatar the Last Airbender, where there were elemental countries divided. Although everything changed once the fire nation attacked. This bug wanted revenge on the Earth Kingdom. Maybe it was secretly fire nation? If these places actually did exist?
.... Nah, it was probably just a rampaging bug that got put back in it's place - under ground. Even if this Magnus did kill them all and tried to take over, he wouldn't get far - there were special forces that took care of anarchists like this bug. Personally, she wanted a boat sized can of RAID.

TAG; Lukas, Moose and Lola NOTES; Yee.
Nolan cocked an eyebrow upwards, sensing something odd, but pressed his lips together in silence, shrugging it off. Lukas was a strange man of strange things, so he tried not to question him so much. However, the situation was a little more than odd, so he probed through the back of his mind, filing through old archives to attempt to place a finger on what was bothering him so.
Nolan allowed a small smirk to decorate his features. The funny thing was that he had absolutely no idea as to what was going on, and the fact that the sentient bug was in the same boat as he was hilarious, despite the dire situation. However, a touch of weariness still embraced his visage, and he didn’t forget about the creature’s wicked arms that were apparently capable of cutting through bars of steel. So he didn’t laugh for fear of his beautiful head rolling across the polished floor through puddles of warm blood.
The creature ambled over to the other man who had the balls to speak up, generating more unanswered questions and leaving everybody in the ballroom in a tizzy. Nolan’s head wobbled. He didn’t know how to go about moving in the situation, so his two feet remained rooted to the ground.
He snuck a glance at Lukas, who seemed strangely comfortable in the situation—almost too comfortable for it to be believable. The bug had addressed him personally. Once again, Nolan suspected that Lukas was at least partially in on whatever was happening at the moment.
Apart from the sniffles and groans, unnerving silence like thick fog settled upon the ballroom, nobody brave enough to attempt to communicate with the creature unless necessary. It was a troubling situation, yes. Nolan idly wondered how he was going to get out of it.
Did the creature have any weak spots?
Nolan’s eyes probed the exoskeleton, unsure if the bullets would pierce them. Actually, it would be safe to assume that they wouldn’t. Best to expect the worse to avoid being surprised. In which case, he’d caught himself in a particularly dreary situation. If only he’d stayed outside . . .

“The only 'kingdom' I know is the United Kingdom, so good luck with that.” At this point, he wasn't even sure why he was even answering – the whole like of dialogue made no sense whatsoever, and his brain had only managed to patch together the thing fixation on a kingdom and nobles, apparently. Of course, his first defense was to snark, the easiest way to avoid a 'proper' answer – and by proper, he meant 'what the actual fuck are you talking about'. Bullshit was a skill of his, he supposed – maybe talking to the thing would distract it and it wouldn't maul anyone – namely him. Lukas always was one to try and find the easy way out – he may have been armed to the teeth but that didn't mean he was itching to use said weapons – in fact he preferred not to touch them...way, way too many witnesses.
He was relieved, however, when he was finally ignored. Well, slightly. That sense of unease as still firmly in place in the back of his mind, and when they got out of here and he was able to use his phone, he was asking for a raise. He knew there would be a little bitching later about the uproar that had broken out at the party, but in a way, it was advantageous – a lot of attention was fixated on this party to begin with, and the 'giant rampaging monster' story was going to get all the attention, pulling focus off the three obviously shot men. It wasn't his smoothest job but parameters changed sometimes. He waited the long few moments it took for the thing to move far enough away he could trust it wasn't focusing on what he said, before leaning his weight back and towards Nolan so the other man could hear.
“Whoever was kissing ass by making an overly elaborate science project really should have kept a humongous can of Raid on hand.” he commented in a low tone, before slowly starting to move along the wall again. He turned motioned to the other assassin to follow, eyes distant and determinedly neutral as he stared pointedly at him and tilted his head a bit to show the direction he was moving in. “Keep checking exits.” he explained, voice barely above a whisper. Even if they were all blocked (he decidedly didn't think about the fact that they were blocked by something far more problematic and unexplainable than locks or security systems), he was banking on one eventually opening – and when it did, he would be there. A part of him wanted to panic – wanted to ask what the fuck was going on and why nothing made sense anymore. As with most serious and potentially life-changing answers, he smothered it with sarcasm and drowning himself in his job rather than ask for fear of the answer.

Nothing, not a single thing was making sense and Magnus was starting to get a headache from the whole thing. It was time to go over everything step by step. There was his advances on the Earth Kingdom, a move he should be regretting. The attack lasted three days and then.. and then he couldn't remember the rest. All Magnus could recall after he woke was being alone under the earth, he spent weeks finding his Generals and freeing them from the earth as well, and then was informed that it had all been the Earth's Noble fault for their entrapment. Magnus was starting to suspect that some how he had been trapped within the earth for more then a few days, maybe even a few years.
Following this train of thought was honestly the only logical path that Magnus found to make any sense. The only problem was, if he was right, then what was he going to do now? Was his plans of revenge broken, no, maybe he just needed to rethink his plans and let time fix his little problem. First he needed some outside help. Magnus took a deep breath, his jaws parting and staying open as he relaxed. For the humans his gaping mouth may seem worrisome, but Magnus had no plans on eating any of them, yet.
"I have decided that as the new ruler of this home that I can be kind and show a little mercy in letting the rest of you live, for a price." Magnus head turned towards moose, and then towards Nolen. They would do, he honestly did not have many to pick from. There were the sniveling people towards the fall wall, but they were not worthy to serve him. There was the women behind Moose, but how useful could a female be? Compared to his race, the female were only good for creating more offspring. The male with the high temperature was interesting, but Magnus did not trust him. The man said that he was not of the Fire Kingdom, which Magnus determined was truth, but that still did not change much to the large bug.
"You and you." He used his sickle like arms to point at Nolen and then at Moose. "Step forward, I have decided that we will make a deal. You both will serve me in learning more about your lands and people. If you are truly not Earth followers, then you may keep your short lives. In exchange for your service, I will let some of you leave. In fact everyone but the group of humans to the right wall may leave. Do we have a deal? The rest will stay here to serve my army." Magnus felt that he was offering a quite lovely deal, Lukas, Lola, Moose, Nolan and a few other people would get to leave today and not become dinner. The others would not be so lucky.
"Oh, and might I add, if you refuse I will just eat each one of you, one at a time till I get some volunteers." Dark vines came out of his mouth and wrapped around Lola's ankle, he then started to pull her towards him. "Deal? Or shall I eat her first?"

tagged: group one. date: may 2nd, just before midnight. notes: notes. It seemed like most people in the room were panicking. Moose, oddly enough, were not. Even having just seen some people get eaten, he wasn't all that bothered by things. A part of it could certainly have been attributed to his brain damage, but really most of it had to do with his complete inability to deal with life or death situations. A large part of his time in prison had been a life or death situation about to happen. There was no way of knowing when someone was going to try and shiv you, and he'd had to act as if people were going to kill him more or less all the time.
Plus, he really didn't understand just how bizarre a giant talking bug was. He was only vaguely aware animals weren't supposed to talk, but considering that he could count the number of animals he'd dealt with on one hand, his experience with them was next to nonexistent.
It helped that the bug was talking like a gang leader. That was what it was like for Moose. Some major gang leader who'd just been thrown in prison and was rallying the troops around him, building alliances and trying to get the lay of the land. Apparently, he'd decided Moose was a good choice... and the skinny guy who was supposed to be with the government. Moose shot the skinny guy a quick look before deciding he was probably better off ignored.
So he listened to the whole speech, and then the bug started sending some... things at the lady he'd been talking to. He wasn't even sure what they were. Like... planty-rope things, and his brain hurt trying to think of what they were called.
There was no way he was letting them grab at any lady, so he stepped in between Lola and the bug, making a little shooing noise with his hand, and earning a swift smack from the vines for his efforts. He wasn't even really bothered by it--he'd had worse.
"Alright you're like--well, you're talkin' like some kind of space alien or something. We're on earth. This is earth." He tapped his foot on the ground for emphasis, even though technically it wasn't the ground. It was close enough. "And we don't have kingdoms, we have countries, and this one is called America."
Really, Moose felt a bit like he was talking to a child, because even he knew that stuff, and he was dumb as a post.
"And an army of those guys isn't going to do much of anything, because America has it's own army, and they've got training and guns. So you'd send them out and they'd just get shot, or you'd get shot." Which was, as far as he was concerned, a pretty good summary of the situation. What could a bug do against a nice bomb?

This Magnus bug would find out just how useful a woman could be. Baby maker? Please. Lola had spent her entire life making sure that her family would survive - this little event with a Men in Black worthy alien space bug was not going to hinder her plans of survival. In fact, it only made her will to live that much better.
The two government looking agents were talking to the bug, and then there was the server, Moose, who had tried to help her earlier. He picked them to be his lackies, and then said everyone could go free - except the far wall, which would be his army. She glanced at that wall and then back at the bug as something gross and slimy slid out of his mouth and raced for her ankles. Lola was ready to lift her make shift bat when Moose intercepted the vines and actually 'shoo'ed them out of the way. Did... did he just shoo off the monster bug like it was a petty animal looking for attention? Lola was impressed at his bravery, and his no-nonsense way of handling that.
The vines smacked him, but he didn't even flinch. "Moose," Her voice was low as she looked at him while he tried to explain that this was America and that he'd get attacked and killed if he tried a take over. Let the damn bug step outside where he can get bombed or shot! She shook her head a little bit. They needed to kill the bug, not give it grand ideas of how to take over the earth. No, really... they just needed to kill king bug. "But with some training, it could work." She moved a little out from behind Moose.
"I mean, look at him. Bullets would just bounce right off of him. This bug doesn't have a weakness." None that they could see, at least. She had an idea that he did, but it never hurt to flatter the would be captor. "I'm fairly certain that we're on the good end of the bargain. All those people over there need is a bit of training, and he'll be in business, no big deal." She was as truthful and as nonchalant as possible.

TAG; Lukas, Moose and Lola NOTES; Yee.
Lukas turned to him, instructing him to continue the search for viable escape routes. Nolan, however, was certain that both of them knew the effort was futile.
He slid to his right, caring to step into the muffled silence, disturbed only by a few snorts and sniffles, without attracting attention to him. He eyed the monster, watching its jaw unhinge in a disturbing fashion. It sent a cold shiver down his spine.
Apparently, he wasn’t stealthy enough, because the monster once again turned its attention to him, a sickle-like arm spelling death pointed in his direction.
Nolan’s joints froze, and he tumbled into an upright position, an uneasy smile on his face and a nervous chuckle rumbling behind his lips. He stepped forward at the command, attempting to retain an air proper to that of a nonchalant gentleman.
Awkward.
Nolan opened his mouth to reply, albeit begrudgingly, but clamped it shut after hearing the other victim speak. Like the strict teacher to a stupid child, he spoke in such a fashion as he explained basic facts to the supersized bug. He shared a quick glance with the speaker before averting his gaze.
Nolan laced his hands behind his back, allowing the entire spotlight to shine on the other man while he comfortably rocked back and forth on the heels of his sharp-looking dress shoes, looking generally uninterested but paying close attention the situation at hand. He would occasionally nod as though to assure the others that he was listening and ready to add any other details (even though he wasn’t going to unless prodded with death’s scythe).
His eyes shifted to Lukas, who was already busy. Nolan was most likely going to have to bail himself out. No problem there. At least, not yet.
He did have time, however, to shoot the man speaking a pointed look. Didn’t the bug just say that it was seeking to destroy the “Earth Kingdom”? And there he was, informing the alien that they were indeed denizens of the “Earth Kingdom,” even though he had a sneaking suspicion that the alien’s Earth Kingdom and everybody else’s Earth were two completely different things.
He sighed. He didn’t exactly want the guy’s mouth to keep running and giving information. He wanted to be curt and to the point. Perhaps he’d even be able to feed the bug information that . . . wasn’t entirely true.
He stepped forward, muttering something about a pay raise, before saying to the bug: “I think the best way to proceed from here is to ask questions that we’ll answer as best we can.” He shot another look at the previous speaker.

America, the kingdoms, slowly none of these words were meaning much to the large bug anymore. He was starting to understand that things had changed, the powers of the kingdoms seemed to be missing are were replaced by man made weapons. This understanding he could deal with, the less controlled elements in the world the better for Magnus. Though he would need to take time in studying this new world, mostly he needed to understand the power that these humans had and how to over come it. For now he had these two males to help him, not that he had much faith in either one.
He laughed, the fact that there was a debate going on about himself being injured or not by the human's weapons was rather entertaining. "Training? No, not the battle kind. These humans will be trained in serving my army and it's Generals. Feeding, cleaning, keeping this castle (it was only a mansion) in top shape. The only ones that will be doing the combat will be those creatures I control, the ones you saw were only the front line distraction." Magnus kept his attention between the humans that spoke with him, but still kept notice of the hot blooded male. Nolan did make a good suggestion, ask questions for the humans to answer. The only problem was that Magnus did not even know where to start with these questions. He needed to see the world first and have a good idea on how to do it without putting himself into danger.
"I have a better idea, you two, the ones I called foward first, what are your name?" He pointed this question at Nolan and Moose, waited for them to answer and the continued. "You will serve me well, in exchange for leaving without harm you will become my eyes and ears, you will take two of my children, one each and will show them the world, they will in turn report. If you do not do as I ask then I will send my minions and they will feast upon your flesh." As disgusting as it sounded a strange cracking sound was heard as a plate on Magnus' back cracked opened. Two small (palm size) dragonfly like creature escaped from the cracks and flew over to circle around Moose and Nolan.
One was a baby blue while the other had a mix of yellow belly and and orange body orange. Neither are as powerful as I and will need to be in physical contract with your in order for them to speak with you as I am doing now.
The blue on landed on Moose and in a cheerful excited tone spoke.A pleasure to meet you good sir I am Aura, I will be following you under father's orders. She was a sweet bug, polite and friendly. (surprising due to who her father was.) Her brother was not as friendly, but greeted Nolan anyways. The orange dragonfly landed on Nolan's arm and spoke to the man. Under father's order I will be watching you, careful you do not upset me, or you will be punished. You can call me Master Cato.
With the introductions taken care of everything seemed to be falling into place, Magnus decided that this was a good start and released his power from the exits. The black darkness that had been covering the walls and the doors had opened up enough for the humans to escape. You and your friends may leave, keep my children safe, if they die you will as well.

tagged: group one. date: may 2nd, just before midnight. notes: notes. Moose had never been the sneaky sort of person who'd manipulate someone by inflating their ego to let them take a fall. It simply wasn't in his nature, and when the woman--whose name he'd never gotten--started to do so, all he could do was raise an eyebrow. Did she really think that? Moose was pretty sure a high caliber gun would be able to do some serious damage, let alone the significantly more hardcore stuff that he was fairly sure the military had. Bombs and stuff had to do some serious damage.
Moose largely missed the black haired mans looks. Moose knew that information had it's value, but he was also fairly sure they'd all be chopped in half if they didn't give him some answers. Most importantly of all, he was feeding the bug answers that a child would have known--everyone knew the name of the planet, everyone knew that they were in America.
Everyone except the bug, apparently. It didn't seem to know anything at all, which was a bit confusing, since it was obviously... well, a very smart bug. How else could you explain the talking?
Moose was vaguely surprised the bug--whose name he had already forgotten--cared about his name, but he gave it just the same. "Moose." And god help the damn bug if it wanted a last name. Moose barely remembered his own last name, and it sure as hell didn't apply to him. Darrin Moore was someone else--someone who was dead, as far as he was concerned.
Moose flinched a tiny bit as the bug landed on his shoulders. He hadn't seen a dragonfly before--didn't even know what it was called--but no one else seemed that shocked by it, so he supposed it looked normal enough. This one talked to, but the way it was talking was different.
It wasn't talking so much as it was thinking at him. He wasn't hearing it with his ears, but he was still hearing it just the same, and he shifted, scratching at his head. It was a bit uncomfortable hearing it talk right into his brain, and he wasn't sure he liked it at all.
He wasn't even sure if it could hear him thinking, so he spoke allowed back to it. "Well, hey then I guess." At least it was a polite little bug. "Never had a pet." Some prisoners kept birds, but those were rare. People didn't like it--it left them vulnerable.
The doors were open then, and he paused, unsure of what to do. Probably say goodbye to a giant talking bug. He wasn't sure what to do about the people who weren't being let go. He wasn't a bad person, but at the same time, he wasn't about to sacrifice himself for one of them. He simply wasn't that heroic.
But he could help in the small ways, so he gave the bug a little nod before beelining towards the pink haired woman, moving to essentially usher her out. He wasn't sure if she'd been particularly included or excluded from the bug's list of who was being allowed to leave, but by god, she was going with him. She'd been one of the few people to actually talk to him, rather than treating him like a piece of the furniture.

The bug was actually /laughing/ at them. Lola wasn't even remotely sure where to begin when it came down to the list of all the strange things happening. There was a glimmer of hope to be saved - and finally there it was.
The bug was going to let them go - but not before explaining that the people on the other wall were going to be /serving the bugs/. Lola felt something sick shudder down her spine as she eyed the bug and then lowered her eyes. She wasn't sure what to do, but the bug released a cracking sound under a back plate and produced two dragon flies -- his children.
Her mind briefly jumped to cross species breeding before one landed on Moose. She was glad it hadn't picked her, that was for sure!! She shifted in her heels as Moose turned towards her and started to usher her outside. She felt some semblance of relief as she gave up her makeshift weapon in favor of taking Moose's hand to beeline their way out of there. Her pulse was scrambling and frantic, if Moose noticed, as she fairly jogged down the grand hallway to the outside. There were some people who were dead on the lawn - charred bodies. There were fiery things above them that were leaving the roof - birds she assumed - and she felt some of her sanity leave her.
This wasn't a dream, but an absolute nightmare, and she needed to do something about it. Once she was outside and free and in her car, she was calling the police. She prayed they'd listen, and that the survivors had done the same. Maybe then the police would believe them that something /was/ wrong.

The monstrous bug only laughed, it’s raspy, alien-like voice seeming to shake the floor beneath Nolan. It explained that the humans would serve to be little more than housemaids.
Nolan’s brow twitched. Oh, that sounded like so much fun. Nolan couldn’t wait to get started. Did he get to wear a sexy French maid costume, too? Like, the cosplay things from Japan? That would just be the frosting on the cake. The completion to the circle of stupidity. Life was good.
Nolan just pursed his lips together, biting the inside of his lip. Hard. The salty drop of blood fell on his tongue and crawled to the back of his dry throat. The situation was still so unreal, but he decided to embrace it thoroughly. If he lived, he’d be able to laugh it off later. Assuming he’d still retained his sanity.
His name? Oh, that would be Nolan Shiloh, head mistress at your service. Do you require a mop?
“Nolan.” He stepped forward, gathering the meager amount of dignity he had left in him. He was going to be curt. He nodded at the monster, attempting to be as formal as possible. Again, if he was going to do this, he was going to try to do this properly and with a flourish. He even managed to crack a dry smile. Not that the bug would appreciate his efforts, anyway. It was more for the self-satisfaction.
A splitting sound cracked through the quiet atmosphere, and an orange dragonfly landed on Nolan’s arm. He blinked. It introduced itself with a voice that commanded all eyes and ears, brimming with newfound authority—the kind of air a rich person’s child would carry. All talk. Still, he acknowledged it, tilting his head at it.
“Nolan,” he said, introducing himself once more. It was a feisty one. He didn’t know how he’d go around with a dragonfly on his shoulder, but, well, he was already a strange man to begin with. He could already imagine it.
Hi guys, this is my new pet. His name is Master Cato. Careful you don’t make him angry, you hear?
He glanced at Lukas before walking towards the exit. A grim smile had appeared on its face. Well, this was going to be exciting.

He relied on the thing's distraction for the next couple minutes as he started to double check all the exits, hoping for that had been dropped of barricades. 'Keep is talking Shiloh. Gotta be a way out.' He was able to vaguely pick up the conversation going on as he darted between groups of people – a few of whom looked at him, obviously following his exit pursuit to see if the succeeded – but most were far too distraught or distracted by the deal being struck at the head of the room. In the end, it was all fruitless, and some of the wind went out of his egotistical sails as his backup was the one who managed to get the thing to lift the barriers.
As soon as the door blocks were lifted, the redhead wasted no time at all in making a beeline for the main doors. He fell into step beside the other assassin, expression grim but nevertheless approving of the deal that had been struck to get them out – any price to get him out he would have been willing to pay, just about. He'd started to feel a sense of faintness, a tightness in his chest and overwhelming hopelessness that was threatening to consume him during his exit search, and while he'd done well to control it, he knew it hadn't been a good sign. His mind had flashed to the law office incidents, his million logical stories of what it could have been, his eventual ignoring it existed because none seemed to fit...he decided it was safer to pretend this one never happened. He's file it away under 'a job botched by circumstances that couldn't have been helped'.
As soon as he walked through the doors he picked up his pace, walking in long strides while attempting to not look desperate to put distance between himself and the building. The father away he got, the more his head cleared, and the less he felt like he was going to start hyperventilating. He wasn't even entirely sure why he was so...thrown off, very little had been done to him. Thinking about it required thinking about the reality they'd just encountered, however, and he chose that no, it wasn't worth it. Things like this just didn't happen in the world he knew – his goddamn world – not things he couldn't somehow gain control of or snuff out. He'd made a seemingly outrageous joke to himself about those silly government and their experiments, but that was the closest explanation he could get.
'No, you don't need an explanation. It didn't happen, remember?' he reminded himself, his inner monologue even tinged with a desperation he didn't know he had in his being. Despite all this, his expression was still, aloof, but between his tense shoulders and fast pace, his discomfort would have been able to have been seen by anyone who had a moderate skill in reading body language. When he finally got out far enough, he checked his disposable phone, was happy to see it was working, and sent a message to Venedict – 'Done. Get us.' And that was it.
There was a few minutes before the others showed up to grab the two, but when they did, and Lukas had finally settled in and managed to smooth down some of his frayed nerves, he finally spoke to the whole group, eyeing each of them in turn. “So” he started, sounding casual as you please - “anyone else feel an itching to get a drink?”
