tagged: prince. time: May 7th 2012, 7:40. speech: hayden. notes: |': Hayden frowned, scrutinizing the menu as though he was contemplating the secrets of the universe. There were so many options, so many things that he could choose from-- the Jeanne Jones omelette certainly looked wonderful, but she had recommended the chicken and maple syrup, right? "Another Obama special for me, please," Hayden piped up politely. While he had been from a wealthy background, it would never do for him to be rude. In fact, it was arguable that Hayden had a habit of being too polite, at times. The waitress trotted away after jotting their order down in a little black notebook, and soon Hayden was faced with Jaime again. The prospect of the good food was almost enough to make up for his nudity earlier in the mor--
Wait.
Hayden shuddered, jolting back with the sudden realization that he wasn't wearing any underwear yet.
The brunette went crimson once again at the thought, any composure that he might have gained earlier going right out the window with the thought that he was still going commando. But that certainly wasn't anything that he was going to bring up to her. No, not here, not now. That would have been far too awkward, and they had met under awkward circumstances as it was. Heck, he was an awkward person as it was, and he certainly didn't want to exacerbate the situation any. Instead, he quickly changed the subject, a rather forced grin spreading across his face as he tried to make small talk. Yes, small talk! Like normal people did, normal people who weren't internet memes that found themselves naked after getting drunk... Somehow. Right?
He was normal, right?
"S- so, what else did you do as a frosh in Caltech?" Hayden asked uneasily. When in doubt, his sister always said, get the other person to talk about themselves. He had always thought it was better to have a balanced conversation, and his sister's advice hadn't always been the best, but at that stage it was all he could think about.

And just as suddenly as he began to feel comfortable, Hayden clammed up again. Jaime tilted her head slightly in confusion but didn't press, though she had a feeling she forgot something. The next question revealed uneasiness. Was he feeling okay? Late onset hangover? Was there even such a thing? She must consult her books and the internet later.
She sieved through her memory and then she realised, guessed. Oops. It was her fault and she was going to rectify that. "Give me a few minutes okay? I'm gonna get some stuff and someone needs to be here. I am going to leave my phone with you while I take your car. Be back in 15, okay?"
He looked as if a protest was on the tip of his lips but he was going to want what she was going to buy. Without another word, Jaime got out of the restaurant and raced to the nearest Target, just a mere 6 minutes (usually 8 but she had her ways, read: broke a couple of speed limits). She got in and out in a record of 3 minutes and rushed back with a small bag. She barely made it, watch telling her that it was 14 minutes and 37 seconds since she stepped out of Roscoe's.
Jaime grinned when she saw two plates of steaming waffles and chicken, the doctoral student handed over the bag wordlessly and dug in.
So far, she woke up next to a naked college student to be, stole some clothes, sneaked out of a house, went for 8am chicken and waffles, got a guy some underwear before they even got to know each other's last names... She can say it's been a productive day so far and it's barely even half-past eight in the morning.
Awesome.

tagged: prince. time: May 7th 2012, 7:40. speech: hayden. notes: POST NUMBER 69 Not that it was her fault that he'd forgotten his underwear-- sure, she had promised that they were stopping for a pair of boxers on the way, but he didn't expect her to do favours for him. It was hardly her fault that he had managed to lose everything, and he was about to protest before he realised that she probably wasn't talking about his underpants. Oh. Never mind. But still, was she just going to leave him here?
Hayden's jaw dropped open like he was a cartoon character, and he limply stuck his hand out in dramatic protest. But before he could say anything more, Jaime was gone, gone with the wind, leaving nothing but her cell phone behind. It was only then when Hayden remembered that his wallet and cell phone had been in his jeans, which were now probably lost in space. It also definitely meant that if she decided to leave him here stranded, he would be stuck washing dishes in his misery for the end of time. Hayden buried his head in his hands, not noticing the sideways glances from the people all around him.
"This is terrible..." Wasn't there a quota for the amount of misery someone could go through in a day? But she'd proven to be decent so far, so hopefully this once his trust wouldn't go misplaced. Maybe. Checking the time on the girl's phone, he noted that only two minutes had passed since he'd buried his head in his hands. Perhaps she would really return, but perhaps not. Either way, all that he could do was wait until the time was over to see. Even when the waitress came after ten minutes or so and set the two plates of steaming waffles and chicken down, Hayden was unable to even look at them-- all he wanted was knowledge that he hadn't been scammed out of his car through his own stupidity.
Twelve minutes. He shifted uncomfortably, wondering whether he would get in trouble if he returned the two plates to the kitchen? At least he'd somehow be able to walk home, right?
Thirteen minutes. Hayden sighed, slumping back in the chair. Maybe he was really a complete sucker. No phone, no wallet, no underpants. Was he really not cut out for life alone? Had his sister been right after all?
Fourteen minutes. By then, he was just about on the verge of giving up. He got up (yes, him and his underwearless, Internet famous backside) and was about ready to approach the waitress, when a familiar face returned. Immediately, his expression turned from one of despondence to one of total glee.
"Jaime!" She was back! But just what had she gone to get? Wordlessly, the girl handed a bag over, and Hayden started shaking his head. The brunette blinked. Were those-- were those drugs or something? What kind of deal was this? He didn't want to get into any more trouble His lips parted to protest, but that was when he noticed the Target label and the fact that a fresh, checked pair of boxers was inside. Oh.
Oh.
"Ah, thank you!" Hayden exclaimed, immediately leaping out of his seat and rushing to the bathroom at top speed. His decency had been rescued, or at least, as much of his decency as he could ever have hoped to muster after his shenanigans. The brunette darted into a stall, pulling his pants off, pulling the boxers on (perfectly sized too. How did she guess?) and then putting the pants on again. In a matter of what must have seemed like seconds, Hayden was out again, all grins and smiles, ready to enjoy his food. He sat down across Jaime.
"Thank you so much. You're a lifesaver. How did you guess what it was that I needed-- no wait," he chuckled nervously, "That was a really obvious question." Change of subject, change of subject. Hayden took a bite of his waffles, glee spreading across his chiseled features as he realised just how good it was.
"Mmmmm. This is really good," he said, taking another bite. He would have said more, but he'd been taught to never talk with his mouth full.

Jaime shrugged, chewing and swallowed before she spoke up again; as uncouth as she can appear to be sometimes, she did have some manners.
"I did promise."
The waffles were perfect, chewy yet soft at the same time, and the chicken were fried to crispy perfection, the skin crunching under her teeth and the meat tender and juicy. Jaime groaned a little pornographically but man, it deserved all the credit it was due. Jesus Christ on a stick, this definitely was tastebud heaven.
"You know what?" Jaime looked over a little and saw that Hayden was eating his portion a certain way, the usual way but there was a little secret to her tastes. "You should try dipping the chicken into the maple syrup. It is going to blow your mind and whatever definition of good will crumble pathetically away."
Sweet and savoury, salt beneath the sugar. Sometimes, food was better than sex. This came with actual firsthand knowledge. Food and sex also can go hand in hand, if one knew how to play the cards. But that's for another day.
Right now, there were chicken and waffles to be worshipped.
"You," she murmured, "are going to have so much fun just trying stuff out. Especially food. This side of LA? Your tastebuds are going to be spoiled for life. Besides, you're a growing boy, you don't have to worry about your girlish figure. Take advantage of that while you can."

tagged: prince. time: May 7th 2012, 7:40. speech: hayden. notes: POST NUMBER 69 With his underwear, his chicken, and his waffles, Hayden finally managed to breathe easy for the first time that day. It seemed like all his problems were instantly solved with some ingenuity and the help of this kind girl. Who'd have thought that things would go up and down so much over the course of just a few hours? He didn't know whether it was a blessing or a curse, but he'd managed to make a new friend in the process, or at least someone he liked. Not that there were many people out there that Hayden didn't like though. But it was a matter of finding people he felt like he could trust, and he did have to confess this to her before they got any further:
"I- I nearly forgot, but I think my phone and wallet went missing along with my clothes. Do you think I'd be able to repay you after this meal? I can take you to my house and give you the money before repaying you when I go home," Hayden stuttered. He hated to keep taking advantage of her like this, but it was the last thing right? Besides, at this stage, Jaime had taken his car, given him underwear, stolen him clothes, and showed him a place with really good food, and hopefully this meant that she was a nice person. Apparently you could never be sure; and Hayden would never be completely sure, he realised with a sinking feeling in his stomach. People had disappointed him enough that even if he wanted to trust them and his instincts told him to trust them, there would be that little bit of himself that always held back. Not to mention that he was alone in Los Angeles. This wasn't Leon or Gabi that he was dealing with, he thought with a small frown as he set down his fork. This wasn't Leon or Gabi, and all of a sudden he didn't feel so hungry any more, even as Jaime told him to try the chicken in maple syrup-- right. Smiling somewhat half-heartedly, the brunette picked up his fork once again, following her instructions and allowing the taste of the syrup to spread through his mouth.
"This is really good," Hayden nodded in agreement. But there was no denying that he was slightly more sombre now, that his mood had taken a sudden dip, and this wasn't out of embarrassment. It was the voice at the back of his subconscious that sounded like his sister, that told him to be cautious, stay on his toes. He mentally kicked himself. What if he'd told her even more? Was it even a good idea to bring her to his place? It was nicer than the average student place, after all. "I'm really looking forward to exploring." He certainly was, but at that moment he couldn't wait for Leon and Gabi to finally arrive.

"Nah kid, this one's on me. Think of it as a welcome to college present from yours truly." Jaime shrugged, smiling after she swallowed a mouthful of waffles. Then she wiped her hands clean and grabbed her phone from the table.
"What's your number?"
A moment skipped before he told her, Jaime punched in the numbers and waited for it to ring. She sincerely hoped that Hayden hadn't switched to silent mode last night for the party. The phone rang a couple more seconds and then someone picked up. Hallelujah.
"Hello?" A groggy tenor greeted her ears. Jaime grinned. She recognised the voice over on the other end. "Max! Good morning!"
"Jaime? What the fuck? It's..." her friend trailed off and then groaned when he realised how early it was. "Nine fucking am in the morning."
The med school student's grin merely took on a cheekier edge, "Glad to know that you can tell the time, I'm sure your engineering professors will be celebrating." Max's only response is another muttered curse.
"Look, the phone that you're using right now, it's not yours. It's my friend's. His wallet should be in the same jeans too. Can you please do me a favour and check for me?" Max sighed and she could hear sheets rustling and a feminine murmur. Oh, looked like someone got lucky last night. It took the guy a while to get back to her but when he did, it was all good news.
"Yeah, there's a wallet there too. How the fuck— Nevermind. So what do you want me to do with it?" Jaime then spared a look at Hayden and continued, "Just hold onto it and Hayden will swing by later to pick it up from the house. Thanks bro, I owe you one."
"Damn straight you do," Max groggily huffed, "but yeah, I'll hold onto it until your friend comes by. It's too early for anything else. I'm fucking going back to sleep."
With that, the call was promptly disconnected. Jaime put away her phone and gave Hayden a crooked grin, "Not so broke and cut off from civilisation after all. And I've got things to do later on, I'll be able to get there from here on my own. Plus I can't have it on my conscience taking away time that could be used for exploring."

tagged: prince. time: May 7th 2012, 7:40. speech: hayden. notes: again, god-modding was done with permission! When she'd asked him for his number, Hayden blinked with surprise, jolting himself out of his thoughts with a quiet "Huh?" before what she said had registered. And that was when it hit him; she was going to try to call his number for him just in case someone had it. His heart soared for a moment as he blurted the numbers out. "1-626-123-1234, thank you," he smiled politely, though it didn't quite meet his eyes. He wasn't ungrateful to her, far from it, but he really didn't want to get his hopes up. At that point, Jaime seemed too good to be true. In the span of an hour or so, she'd been with him in so many situations in which he could have been compromised, and she'd pulled through every single time. While it should have been proof that she was safe, Hayden knew that it was best to be discerning, even if his heart certainly didn't want to be.
And lo and behold, she'd sorted out his phone problem in a matter of seconds. At that point, he really shouldn't have been surprised that she'd managed to work another miracle, but he was Hayden, and to Hayden wonders would never cease. The male flushed slightly as he shifted in his seat.
"Y- you really don't have to buy me the meal though," Hayden said. "If anything, I should buy it for you. I've definitely caused you enough trouble at this point and you've been so sweet the whole while." He wasn't lying, he really wasn't. But at the same time, it would have been easy to see that there was no heart in Hayden's words. It was as though he'd been an excitable, as though embarrassed puppy earlier, and now the puppy had been kicked. He knew that she was a stranger, that she definitely didn't know his background or who he was.
But at the same time he was alone in a strange area, and the more he thought about it the more he wondered whether this was a good idea. He was cut out for this, he reminded himself. He could do whatever he set his mind to! But, he thought as he took another bite, the waffles were suddenly so much less sweet when he found himself thinking too much about other peoples' motives.

She threw back her head and laughed when she heard him offer to pay for lunch. It took her a moment to recollect herself and she grinned, hazels dancing teasingly, as she asked Hayden, "And might I ask how exactly are you going to do that since your wallet is essentially in another location?"
The image of him washing dishes in the back of the kitchen unwittingly cropped up in her head and she had to grin again. The reaction she got was adorable and she smothered the urge to ruffle his hair. The kid was too cute for his own good and a little on the gullible side too. She had notice his sudden drop in spirits when he was left to his own thoughts for a while. He probably didn't think a she was coming back with his car. Well, it was a valid hypothesis but she did come back, and while she would prefer a happier breakfast companion, she couldn't blame the other for thinking too much. After all, they had only just met and she wasn't going to expect him to trust her to watch his back and not con the crap out of him.
"So this one is certainly going to be on me. Don't argue with me." She gave him a smile as she took another bite. "Cheer up now, I'm not asking for your firstborn child. Enjoy your breakfast and go your merry way after. I'll check up on Max later to see if you've gotten back your things, so if that doesn't happen, I know where to find him." The grin on her face could only be described as bloodthirsty but as quickly as that appeared, it was replaced by s shiny variation.
"But you probably don't have worry about it, he's a pretty good guy when it comes to things like that. So you'll have your wallet and phone back in no time."

tagged: prince. time: May 7th 2012, 7:40. speech: hayden. notes: again, god-modding was done with permission! "But how can you be so sure that-- oh." Hayden blinked, gulping as he noticed the girl's evil grin. Somehow, he had a gut feeling that he didn't quite want to know just how she would end up getting his stuff back, but only that it would somehow happen, by hook or by crook, whether the poor boy liked it or not. He could just imagine Gabi laughing diabolically in the far distance, joining Jaime in the same kind of evil doings as they plotted the doom of the rest of the planet. "Thanks, I guess. I mean, thank you," Hayden hastily tacked on, "Thank you very much! I didn't mean to sound ungrateful, I just... Man," he chuckled, "I don't want to know what you might end up doing to him."
It would be right to say that the bit of familiarity did cause some momentary comfort. Now that he realised that she reminded him just the tiniest bit of Gabi, there was something to work from. At least he would be able to hazard some sort of guess as to her mentality, right? Though he had to remind himself that while Gabi had his back, she wouldn't necessarily be the same. Gabi was his friend, and even though Jaime had certainly been very nice she had just met him, after all. He took one last bite of his waffles, finishing the rather sizeable portion. Hayden grabbed his glass of water and chugged the contents down. Mm, delicious!
"The waffles were really good," he said, smiling back at Jaime. As long as he was careful, he would be okay wouldn't he? Just so that he didn't make the mistake of giving himself up too easily. He could always try to be friendly, maybe even make another friend. Los Angeles had been full of surprises up to this point after all... And no matter how hard it was and how bad he sometimes felt, life was easier if he just kept fighting!

"Don't you worry about it. I'll keep the gory details to myself, that way you won't have to lie on the stand." She really wasn't helping herself here if she wanted to paint a picture of harmlessness. Unrepentant was one of her middle names, after adrenaline junkie and hell raiser. It was a miracle she kept herself out of juvie all these years, though now, with her age, it was going to be jail. She shot him a sideway glance.
Whatever was on his mind was bothering him, no doubt, because the puppy from before was replaced by an angsty teenager. Jaime gave him some privacy, preferring not to pry herself. She wasn't the comforting type, rather she was the kind who would jump of a cliff to distract herself. The girl concentrated on finishing her waffles and when she was done, she released a little burp and grinned shamelessly. Girl or not, she had the right to pass gas however she wanted.
"Well, that was just more evidence that this is too good. I'm already thinking what to have the next time I'm here." She grinned again, and then wiped off the grease with the store provided tissues.
"I've gotta run now, nice meeting you, kid. Enjoy yourself now and tell Leon and your other best friend I said hi and to enjoy themselves too." She stood up and left after a jaunty wave. Don't think she was going to see him again, not when campus was huge. Them again, who knows?
Life was an unpredictable son of a bitch.

tagged: prince. time: May 7th 2012, 7:40 speech: hayden. notes: \o/ Hayden had a gut feeling that he really, really didn't want to question what Jaime was talking about, so all he did was stand and nod. "Just- just don't actually hurt anyone, okay?" he asked, laughing nervously. He was glad that she hadn't met Gabi, come to think of it. One of them was bad enough, and the two of them put together would just be a pair of diabolical, evil machines cackling into the sunset. Sometimes Hayden felt like he was either a reluctant sidekick, or one of the guys from that sector of Marvel. Damage Control.
"Yeah, I'm definitely coming back," Hayden piped up. Where were his manners? However, it was then when the girl let out a little burp, and he laughed in response. She really did remind him of Gabi in that sense: burping and plotting everyone's doom. "The next time I come here I might just order two portions. I think I might be able to gulp all of that down by myself." He was about to say something else, to try to continue the conversation, to thank her for sitting him through this madness and helping guide his wayward wallet and phone back home, but wait--
"Hey! I drove you here? How are you going to get back--" But she was gone, gone into the distance. Hayden blinked. Well, she would find her way, he supposed. She probably had a good idea as to what she was doing. With that, Hayden got up from his seat, taking his leave as well. That had been a strange, strange morning. A strange one indeed.
