tagged: gabriel. time: may 9th, 1pm. notes: rp swap. Oddly enough, Gabriel was dead on. For a lot of time, Lucien had just sat there and stared. Not even out of a window, either--his room had been in the middle of the floor, with no windows to show for. He'd been hidden away for a reason, and it was only a recent thing that he was able to see out the window, to watch the LA skyline in his spare time. It was interesting--a petty distraction. It was one of the only distractions he'd had though, until he was suddenly allowed out in the world once again. It had been jarring, surprising and unexpected, and he was still reeling from it.
Things he didn't like wasn't much easier. It took a whole lot of contemplation to come up with something, fingertips rubbing at his wrist almost absentmindedly.
"I don't like violence." Which largely went without saying considering the genre's he'd specifically outlined. "Some is fine in books I guess. Fights. That sort of thing. Not anything... more then that." Abuse, torture. That sort of thing. Beyond that he really couldn't think of anything more, and he hesitated for several long moments, trying to come up with something else.
Nope. Nothing. "I really don't have anything else." Nothing in mind. Nothing he hated. He had so few experiences with normal people things that he couldn't even compare.

tagged: lucien margaux. time: may 9, 2012 - 1:00PM. speech: gabriel. notes: pm me if there are problems, thanks. Well, that... didn't exactly help much either. Gabriel was kind of at a loss as to what to do, to be fair. Well, he had tried everything, right? Tried to narrow down his options as much as possible, even if it wasn't very much at all. All that he had gotten out of that conversation was, for better or for worse, that Lucien wanted to avoid high to extreme violence. Medium or average violence was okay, and minimal violence... well, there really wasn't many books that didn't have some amount of violence in them. Unless he was going to recommend those slice of life books where the conflict was purely because people misunderstood each other and refused to talk or something like that. Not that he knew many books like that at all...
He was going to have to just go out on a limb and recommend things that he either remembered being good or his friends had said were good -- and hope that Lucien was okay with all of it. Even if most of it was stuff that people expected older teenagers to read. Well... that was okay, right? He hadn't been out of his teen years for that long, so it was perfectly fine that he recommend books meant for that age bracket, correct? "Well... I suppose books that would be able to fall under those guidelines... there's The Golden Compass and all of its sequels," Gabriel began, trying to wrack his brain for books that he had read -- and ones he had been meaning to read, but hadn't found the time to yet. "Uhm... His Majesty's Dragon, I heard was pretty good. And one of my friends swears that The Night Angel trilogy is good too. Ah, I guess, if you're willing to trust indirect recommendations, get those."

tagged: gabriel. time: may 9th, 1pm. notes: rp swap. Four books. Well, four series. Who knew how many books were in each set? Maybe fifteen books, if he had to guess. That was a good number. It would last him a bit--maybe a week. He did nothing else, after all. It was reading or nothing, although he supposed that simply going outside was an actual option. Maybe he'd go look around Chinatown tomorrow before drowning himself in books once again. Maybe he'd just let himself enjoy being out in the open, with the sun on his face and the fresh air in his face.
"Thank you." He responded after a moment, giving the man a little nod. "You've been very helpful." What could he do for him? His options were very, very limited. He did have money though, and he certainly didn't seem rich, although looks could certainly be deceiving. Maybe that would help?
"If you'll help me find them, I'll purchase your book as well. All as a group." No thanks needed, because money was not a concern Lucien had ever really had.

tagged: lucien margaux. time: may 9, 2012 - 1:00PM. speech: gabriel. notes: pm me if there are problems, thanks. "You're welcome," Gabriel replied, then added with something sheepish smile and a quiet, bashful sort of chuckle, "It's really not a problem -- I mean, I just thought I'd make up for accidentally bumping into you." Doing a bit of good never hurt anyone, right? (And Gabriel couldn't help but to wonder if doing good deeds added up somewhere out there -- but he supposed that he would never really know.) "I don't mind helping at all though, honest! I just -- wait, w-what?" The offer to have his book paid surprised Gabriel, and rather obviously so from the way his eyes seemed to widen and seemed to fluster. "Wait, you really don't have to, I-I don't think that I -- no, it's just that I think that -- I -- I mean, if you really, want to I won't stop you, i-it's just that I r-really don't think I did enough to deserve that... b-but thank you. A lot."
How much money could he actually have -- he was a college student who lived off of instant ramen and so much damn coffee that he really That alone should have said something, but Gabriel wasn't one to go around flaunting the fact that he didn't exactly have much money. No, it wasn't because his family was poor or anything, but going to university in a different country was going to be more expensive than... oh, you know, going to the ones readily available within driving or public transportation distance of your hometown. (He had needed the distance form home, though -- and he would love it if he could simply stay away from home forever, period.) But even, so, to have someone pay for him... that just simply wasn't something that happened every day. "It's not that I don't appreciate the offer -- I do. I'm just... not used having my things paid for, so I got really, really surprised there."

tagged: gabriel. time: may 9th, 1pm. notes: rp swap. He seemed so distressed. Had no one ever bought anything from Gabriel before? He was acting like it was some bizarre thing, like Lucien had just grown a second head. He hadn't, had he? It wasn't that odd to buy something for someone who had helped you, was it? Lucien might have been very good with money, but sometimes they way that money was used by normal people was beyond him. He'd never had to worry. Never had to pinch pennies. He'd been good with his money, not wasting it, but he also hadn't been terribly miserly. Now he was significantly more generous then he had been before, but the same lines of thought held true.
Lucien hesitated for a moment, then waved off Gabriel's concerns. "It's fine. I have money. It's a small thing for me." Which was only half true, because technically Lucien had no money at all of his own. But Kun Shui seemed willing to give him money to use, and he sincerely doubted that Kun Shui would notice or care that he was 'missing' a book's worth of money. It wasn't as if Lucien had a place he could hide it. His room was open access, and Kun Shui could do what he pleased there.
"I insist." wasn't that how he was supposed to go? To insist that he would pay. That seemed like the correct thing to do. It really wasn't anything, and he moved around, collecting books he spotted and stacking them into his arms. He doubted he'd be able to carry them all--maybe he'd make the guard carry a bag.

tagged: lucien margaux. time: may 9, 2012 - 1:00PM. speech: gabriel. notes: shortest post in the history of posts. "I mean, if you absolutely insist, I'm not going to stop you," Gabriel said, still not quite sure how to react. Accepting would seem rude, but saying that he simply couldn't accept would also be rude. Either way, he was going end up seeming rude in some way or form, and that definitely did not sit well with Gabriel. But with no way to not seem impolite, all he could really do was say yet again, "Thank you though. I really appreciate it." He really didn't know what else he could say that wouldn't make him either sound like he was unappreciative or trying to freeload. Well... he supposed this could be considered a good day. Better than yesterday, at the very least.

tagged: gabriel. time: may 9th, 1pm. notes: rp swap. "I do insist." Because he did. There were so few ways for him to affect the world around him. He had little say in what happened. He had no say in where he lived, or who he was with. The simple act of being able to choose to pay for someone else's books, someone who he'd met on his own terms, because he chose to, was like a breath of fresh air.
He gave a little nod and made his way to the counter, arms literally loaded with books. He felt slightly better about himself, slightly more confident. Things had gone well. There had been no disasters, no horrible incidents. He'd been unbothered, only assisted. Setting the books down, he paid for it all in large bills. It wasn't as if he was ignorant to the value of money--he just was used to having a lot of it, and wasn't exactly in a position to worry about his funds.
"It really wasn't any trouble. Thank you for your help." He answered, plucking Gabriel's book off the counter and handing it over as the rest were bagged. He really didn't think he'd be able to carry them all--he'd have to hand one off.
"I should be going." He gave a little nod to him, hesitating. "Goodbye." It seemed too formal, but after a moment he decided to let it go, carrying the bags with him as he went.
