ATARAXIA (n.)calmness or peace of mind. John Rawls and John Locke both must have been touched in the head if they thought that humanity could accommodate the "Veil of Ignorance" or the "Veil of Perception". There might have been a little too much hope in their works when it came to governance. Allison could feel a headache building and she took a sip of her tea. it helped a little and she flipped another page. Even though she tried her best, her mind kept wondering to a certain blond but she quickly shut it out and refocused herself, her pen scratching notes on a notepad. At least there was something she could do well, the sheets of paper were neatly arranged and labelled for the ease of perusal. There was a test coming up soon and she had to keep her grades up. Plus she wasn't really looking forward to revising programming either but her minor had to be maintained as well, so there really wasn't a way out of this one.
She had been studying in a cosy little cafe, nursing a pot of peppermint tea while pouring over a thick tomb of political philosophy when something unique caught her eye as she looked up to take a break from the words. She had her cup in her hands when the knitted flat cap that the Asian boy was wearing that made her take a closer look and there was even a matching bow tie to boot. The ensemble was adorable and there was also something familiar about it. Allison wrecked her brain for the connection and then it hit her. It was from an Etsy store she adored. It was a place where she got some knitted presents for last Christmas and it quickly became a favourite website of hers to browse when she found herself idling. She would love to learn how to knit if given the chance. The dark-haired male was about to walk past her table when she spoke up.
"Excuse me but did you get your knits from Etsy?"
It wasn't every day you see a hipster in Los Angeles and she was hoping that it was the same store she frequented. Little did she know she was talking to the designer, knitter and owner of that same store. | words 379 tags #duvet #challenge notes May 8th, hipster boy meets cat girl |

words | 405 | Most days Kyu-Sik would only have one cup of coffee in the morning and that would get him through until the evening. However, today was a little bit different. He was feeling just the slightest bit drowsy after leaving his home for the day. The idea of an iced americano was sounding more and more appealing as the minutes ticked on. So, the first break that Kyu-Sik got, he found himself heading to a nearby cafe. It was one that was inviting enough, occasionally housing students from the city's various colleges. The interior smelled of teas and coffees as soon as he walked in. He didn't wait long after ordering to get his drink, so there was plenty of time left to just sit down and enjoy it.
The weather was warm that day, but still not warm enough to prevent him from wearing some of his favorite knitted accessories. He often denied that he was even slightly a hipster of any kind, but he still proudly wore his handmade flat cap with its matching bow tie that day. He liked it and that was all that really mattered to him. Los Angeles had such an eclectic mix of people that people usually paid little mind to what he was wearing anyway. That's why it was an oddity when he heard someone speak up as he walked by a table to find a seat of his own.
He stopped at the table, a bit confused at first. He doubted the woman sitting there was talking to him. However, when he glanced down it was obvious that she was looking right at him. While he had gotten plenty of passing compliments on his knitted accessories before, there were very few who directly asked if they were from Etsy. She wasn't very far off, even though he had knitted the two items for himself along with others that he had sold on the website.
To answer her question, Kyu-Sik shook his head first. "No, I made these actually," he said almost hesitantly. It was an honest response, though it was still one that people occasionally doubted. He was never really sure why so many people found it odd that a boy could knit. "But I do sell things on Etsy sometimes." More so in winter than in mid-May, of course. Even then it was more to people out of state since Los Angeles was never that cold. |

ATARAXIA (n.)calmness or peace of mind. Hesitantly, she ventured with a name and when she got an affirmation, a big smile brightened her face and Allison couldn't help fangirling a little. She loved his warm knits, having lived in various cities all over the world which had rather brutal winters at time instilled an appreciation of clothing that kept her warm. And if it was cute, even better. Another reason why he caught her eye was that one does not come across knits all that often in the area. Los Angeles was sunny almost all year round and knits just didn't quite factor into the wardrobe choices its residents made.
"Your designs are gorgeous. I really like the colour combinations and the knitting style. I have to admit I actively stalk your store once in a while." Allison paused, taking a good look at the unblemished skin, the almond eyes and delicate features. He couldn't be older than her, if anything, she would put good money on him being younger. "I wouldn't think that you'd be this young..."
Truth to be told, she hadn't expected him to be male either. The images she had in her mind was either a mother or a grandmother who had time on her hands. It was a pleasant surprise and he wore his creations well. A hipster in LA, her friends in New York would be cackling if they knew. But that didn't really matter because it was talent that counted and the boy was quite the gifted knitter.
When she realised that they were having a conversation with him standing while she was sitting comfortably in a cushioned chair, Allison resisted the urge to palm her face at her folly. The last thing she wanted to come across was to be an inconsiderate person.
"Ah. How rude of me, would you like a seat?" Her hands moved to rearrange the table she was currently occupying as she made some space and slipped a bookmark between the pages of her book. Allison then recognised her potential social faux-pas and quickly added on a, "Only if you want, of course."

words | 397 | It was a surprise to have someone mentioned Etsy when they saw what he was wearing, but when he thought about it, plenty of knitters sold their goods on the website. The bigger surprise was that this person actually even knew his store. He knew that there were people who liked what he made, because why else would anyone keep buying what he sold. However, he still wasn't really used to meeting someone that regularly followed the store other than his family. And they didn't count.
Kyu-Sik gave Allison a small smile and a humble nod of the head in gratitude. "Thank you." Though he wasn't really sure how to respond to her mention of him being so young. He shrugged and fiddled with the strap of the bag around his shoulder. In her defense, he had confirmed the other day that he was a few hard candies short of having the bag of a grandparent. The young man knew exactly where she was coming from. Although he still saw no reason why it was odd for a young man to knit, he decided it best not to try and defend himself. "I'm eighteen," he said instead, as if the fact that he was at least eighteen made any difference to the matter at all.
His hesitance returned when she asked him if he wanted to have a seat there. She wasn't pressuring him to do so, and he hadn't walked in to start any conversation. The plan was to drink his coffee and leave. However, he didn't want to seem rude to someone who had already been so kind. There wasn't really any harm in sitting with her for the time being. "Sure, I think I still have half an hour." He checked his watch to confirm the time and then took the seat.
He looked over the what the other woman was doing as he finally took a sip of his coffee. Reading books and taking notes wasn't strange to see for the college goers that came through. "You must be a student. Are you from around the area?" Kyu-Sik was curious to know seeing as she was a fan of his store. One didn't really need many knit things in Los Angeles. The girl was Asian like himself, but as he was a native to Los Angeles he knew that didn't really mean much. |

ATARAXIA (n.)calmness or peace of mind. Eighteen. Not like it was any better but Allison didn't push. Talent was talent and age was just a number. The kid was cute in the 'awwww let me pinch your cheeks like an Asian aunt" way. He also looked Korean and pretty enough to be in a band. Yeah, that kind of pale, flawless skin and features delicate enough to make any girl jealous. Allison just thought he looked aesthetically pleasing. She gave him a tentative smile as he sat down with his cup of coffee, making some conversation. She nodded when he asked her whether she was a student and from around here.
"Yeah, I'm studying in Occidental right now but I'm an international kid. Los Angeles is a nice change. You from around here?"
He had the accent and since he was eighteen, he should be in college. He definitely did not look like the type to be in a numerical or scientific degree, despite being Asian. Stereotypes, she knew that, but sometimes it held true, though in Los Angeles, every other person was Asian in one way or another. However, if he was true to the stereotype... his wardrobe would be a highlight of his course-mates' day because it would stand out in a good way. Hipsters would approve of the contrast. Irony.
"I'm Allison, by the way. Nice to meet you."

words | 361 | Allison's response that she was an international kid was a little vague for him, but he took that to mean she had possibly lived in enough places to not mention anything specific. For someone who had been stuck in Los Angeles for the entirety of his life, the idea of living somewhere else always did interest him. He had tried for New York, but that hadn't gone as well as he had hoped. A short pause was given as he took another drink of the cold beverage. "I've been in Los Angeles for as long as I can remember," he admitted in the manner he usually did. That was a fact and then some, considering he was born there. It may have been a large city, but being a native to it didn't strike him as that neat. It was pretty average in comparison to some other backgrounds he had heard.
Kyu-Sik actually spent more time looking over the woman's book from where he was sitting than actually looking at her. He could've made a vague guess that she wasn't Korean by her features, but then it was hard for him to try and figure out where her own Asian features may have originated. It was easier for him to try and guess what she was studying based on what she had with her. However, he figured they could've been for a number of things like history, literature, philosophy, or even psychology by the title. He had done very well in school academically, but he was currently letting the advancement of his own education sit idle. So, he wasn't really sure in the end.
"You can call me Kyu-Sik." She obviously had his Etsy username, but he was unsure whether or not she had managed to find his actual name. It wasn't impossible with the magic of the internet. He did have an incredibly neglected Facebook sitting around somewhere with only one band photo and some out-dated friend requests. Still, it seemed proper to introduce himself in any case.
"So, I take it that you're liking the college and the city, then? It looks like you've got a lot of reading." |

ATARAXIA (n.)calmness or peace of mind. Kyu-sik. That confirmed her suspicions that he was Korean. To be honest, there was no other nationality for those features. He seemed quite the reserved individual, which fitted with her newfound image of the young male knitter and he looked to be very interested in her reading materials. "That's the toss up for nothing doing something mathematical or science-based." Allison's lips curved into a wry smile as she closed her book temporarily; she will resume her revision after he leaves.
"You're a local? It's nice to have a solid base but I guess the grass is always greener on the other side. People want straight hair when they have curls, and vice-versa. The actual act of moving is a pain but getting know different cultures was kind of fun." She didn't really know whether she'd be able to give up her moving experiences but it was a tough decision to make. On one hand, she would have really appreciated the stability and the friends that she would have made - she had seen those type of friendships and she had always been envious- but on the other hand, she had seen a lot more than most at the same age. So really, it was a difficult choice to make. All that being said, she couldn't quite change her past so she'll just make do with what she's got.
"LA's really laid back. A lot more chilled out than I'm used to. I grew up in big cities with skyscrapers and financial centres, so I'm enjoying the change of pace. But sometimes I miss the hustle and bustle of the morning work rush. But that's just me. Either way, it's quite conducive to studying. I can't imagine sitting in New York without distraction for too long. I was there for a year and I just keep looking around while I was trying to do work in cafes."

words | 405 | Something not mathematical or science-based. That helped affirm the subjects he was assuming the book could be related to, though it didn't really help him pin-point any subject in particular. He nodded in understanding and just kept listening.
Having a solid base had done very little for him in the past eighteen years. At least it seemed that way to him. He did manage to find a good enough job in the city and his parents had plenty of connections that they took advantage of on an oddly regular basis. However, he found it difficult to make those sorts of connections himself. He was good at the work he did and met interesting enough people through his jobs, but he hadn't even kept up with the people he had been on good terms with in high school. Perhaps he had taken his placement in the world for granted, but he had difficulty not letting that pass by him as frivolous when he had other things to accomplish.
A smile momentarily returned to him as he took the time to glance out the window. Kyu-Sik was more for keeping himself distracted and knew how to focus on something when he needed to. His sister had told him, too, that in the end New York was just another city. However, the difference in pace between the two cities was exactly what he craved. "Maybe the grass is always greener, but I think I'd like to go. I'm not sure if a laid back city is good for me," he admitted with a shrug. He thought any busier city would be nice, really, but New York had been stuck in his mind since he applied for Juilliard. That was a dream that had been quietly put down and shelved for his apprenticeship at the tailor's, so he honestly didn't see himself going anywhere for quite some time.
Still, it was neat to meet someone who had lived in New York, even if it was only for a year. Kyu-Sik turned back to Allison. "It sounds like there was more to see there, at least. So, what do you study, if you don't mind me asking? Did you study there as well?" The woman seemed older than him, though there was no way that she could have been that much older. He just wasn't really sure if she had started college with Occidental or if she was a transfer. |

ATARAXIA (n.)calmness or peace of mind. "I guess each to their own." Allison nodded as he told her that he would probably prefer a more hectic city like New York. He'd fit right in with the hipsters, they would welcome him as one of their own with wide open arms. "I think I would most likely prefer that too once I finish studying, there needs to be a little bit of a push to shake off the stagnant feeling once you get a permanent job. If you can, you should definitely give it a shot. You never know until you do."
He was reserved but curious. Something that she could relate quite well but he was also younger, at eighteen and just starting out formal adulthood. However, he was also Asian, so shaking off the image of a child with their families was going to take a lot more than just turning a certain number. Achieving freedom in their situations will require hands-on effort. A lot of hands-on effort. As much as it was great to always have a base to fall back to, the scrutiny can be a little taxing at times.
"International relations as my major and com sci as my minor. I like my major better," Allison gave Kyu-Sik a wry smile and took a sip of her peppermint tea. It was still nicely warm as it slid down her throat. Perhaps she should get herself a nice decadent brownie as a reward for finishing three chapters later. She filed that thought away for now as she concentrated on the conversation at hand.
"I'm actually studying in Occidental. Second year. Time really does flies. What about you? Where are you heading in autumn?"

words | 319 | If only just giving it a shot was all that easy. Kyu-Sik gave another uncertain grin, but he nodded to her. The Korean boy fiddled with the cup in his hand for a moment in thought. The idea was a nice one, but realistically it wasn't as feasible as he wished it was. He had a permanent job where he was now, and her words got him wondering if that's why he felt like he wanted something a bit more busy in his life.
He wouldn't worry about it right now. "That makes sense. Your major sounds like a good fit for someone who's an international kid." He stirred his americano with its straw, idly trying to see if he could reposition one of the ice cubes as he spoke.
Then she asked where he'd be going in autumn. Kyu-Sik was telling himself not to hesitate so much in his replies, and yet he found himself doing it again. "Oh, I'm not heading anywhere any time soon. College plans didn't exactly work out." He felt some remorse in the statement still, but he managed to mask it well enough. Just as he always did. "My parents own a store that I've been helping around with, and I found an apprenticeship with a tailor instead."
He had two jobs, not counting his knitting for the people of Etsy. Though neither of the two jobs was anything he could consider as interesting as what some people were studying in college. Not that he could've at all compared her major to anything he had planned to study himself in the first place. It just occasionally seemed weird to explain to others that he wasn't going to college yet, if ever, when that was exactly where he pictured himself up until a year ago.

ATARAXIA (n.)calmness or peace of mind. Ah. That uncertain grin. He was seriously a cutie and Allison had a feeling that he didn't really know it. That just made him cuter; she wanted to take him home and introduce him to Coco and Nellie as their new best friend who will be staying with her. She'll make sure that he'd fed and watered. When he gave her a hesitant reply about his college plans, an unfamiliar feeling crept up on her. Adjusting her demeanour slightly by firmly but softly murmuring, "Doesn't mean that you can't try again." Allison paused herself, "Whenever you're ready, of course."
Then he revealed that he was an apprentice too, only to a tailor. She brightened and smiled, "I'm a pastry chef apprentice. Us newbies need to stay together."
It seemed rather fitting who he was apprenticed to. A tailor. That was going to take his creations on Etsy to a whole new level once he gained more experience. Allison found herself looking forward to that. She sometimes spent winters with her sister and her husband in New York City, so winter knits were a go during that time.
"Yeah, computer science is in real life context is more useful but that doesn't mean studying a social science wouldn't be relevant either. I just want more options, that's all. So," she hedged, "What were you thinking of applying to for college?"
Perhaps talking about it could lead to a different perspective? She wasn't looking to change his life but that didn't mean that she couldn't help either. | words 638 tags #cafe #knitting notes hipster boy meets cat girl |

words | 298 | It seemed she was looking right through him. Kyu-Sik wasn't made nervous by it, but he knew that he should really stop hesitating. He hadn't planned to try again, as the idea of failure after failure seemed off-putting. He wasn't ready and who knew if he'd be again.
Still, he kept the slight smile on his face and nodded for her. It was amusing to find out that she herself was also an apprentice. Her art was different than his own, but it still sounded interesting. He wouldn't have thought that a college student studying international relations would also be studying how to make desserts. "Do you make international pastries, then?" A very flat joke, but he tried. He meant well and actually that idea sounded delicious to him. Judging by that occupation and her opinion toward her minor, she seemed to be the kind of person who liked to keep her choices open. Kyu-Sik could understand that angle.
It wasn't until she asked him about his attempt at college again that he once again hesitated, despite what he had promised himself. He knew that it was quite different from what he was actually doing now. It didn't really hurt to say though. He filled his pause with another drink of his coffee, not really looking back up even after he set the coffee back down on the table.
"I was a flautist, so I had applied to Juilliard. It was silly when I look back on it. Their acceptance rates are always really low." The year he had auditioned only a little over five percent of the applicants had been accepted. He knew that hundreds of people didn't get in, but he had been too stubborn to lower his bar. "It's not really a practical education anyway." |

ATARAXIA (n.)calmness or peace of mind. Oh dear, for a rare second time, Allison was feeling like a big sister. She found herself actually liking that idea of taking the younger Asian under her wing. Nothing subtle of course, what it meant was that he was going to be fed very well. She listened intently and smiled at his joke but really, it could be a great idea. Hmm. Maybe something to think about in her spare time.
"Next time I try something fusion in baking, I'll let you know."
Allison took another sip of her tip and then his posture changed, seeming trying make himself smaller as he remained staring at the table top while telling her the story of his college application. Ah.
"Practicality? I think in this case, it's passion and I see plenty because you're still moping about it. It must have meant and still mean a lot to you." There was a kind, knowing smile playing on her lips as she tried to present his situation in a different light. "Juilliard is incredibly hard to get in but if you had tried out, you must be at least amazing. There are plenty of people who are technically spot on but perhaps they needed a bit of soul? And that comes with experience so it's just a sooner or later thing for you, in my opinion."
She had another mouthful of her tea and continued in a softer voice, "You just have to keep working on it and you'll get there. Only if you want it. And nothing good comes easy." It was something a person extremely close to her heart told her. Adrienne, her older sister, had gone through the same thing, applying to Juilliard, only to be rejected all three times and in the end, she loved music more than the school itself and chose Berkeley for her musical education. It really was a matter of what one wanted.
"We're Asians. We're good at things like this."
It was time for her to crack a joke but she was only half kidding.

words | 326 | The encouragement from the person he had only just met seemed to almost surprise him. He looked up at her to see if she was really serious, but her expression and tone were both sincere. She gave him absolutely no reason to doubt her words. It was more of the matter that he wasn't sure how to respond.
She had hit the nail right on the head with what she was saying. He remembered what he had been told by the people who had finally denied his entrance to the school. Back then they had told him just that. He was technically skilled, as he hoped he would be considering how long he had practiced, but he was lacking soul in his performance. He had played Ibert which, to be fair, wasn't quite a piece that suited his personality so much as it showed off skill. Of course, it wasn't just his entrance into his dream school that he had lost that day.
"I don't--" Kyu-Sik started, but he paused again. The small chat had taken an odd turn that would have made it uncomfortable if not for the kind grin on her face. She wasn't wrong. He offered her only a dry laugh and shake of his head at her Asian comment. "Sorry," he said, not quite sure why he was actually apologizing to her. "I'm not so sure about how passionate I am about it anymore. If I'm being honest, it did mean a lot to me back then, but the idea of bothering with it now seems self-defeating."
He was moping. And more often than not, he did miss his instrument. He loved music and enjoyed the people involved in it. That's why he never minded helping his parents at their shop. "Have you ever slaved over something only for it to not be good enough?" Kyu-Sik imagined the experience to be fairly common. He was interested in her point of view. |

ATARAXIA (n.)calmness or peace of mind. He really did resembled a kicked puppy at that point, as he recounted his experience with failure. Her heart went out to him, knowing that the kind of disappointment he felt would have been a great setback for a budding self-esteem. She was just two years older and could not say that she was ahead of him. On many levels, they were at the same stage. Especially the feeling they weren't really going anywhere after their initial plans fell through. Hers was her father's abrupt departure and him his temporarily dashed music dreams.
"Yeah, definitely." She knew a good deal about failing or feeling like she did. Nothing she ever did was enough for her mother and the woman wasn't shy about her opinions. It got to a point where she had to physically distance herself in order to get away from all the negativity.
"Worked my ass off for an Ivy League. Didn't get it. Not by a far shot. My mother wasn't happy." Her lips curved into a wry smile as she shrugged, "But no matter how hard you fall, you're not dead. There's always a way."
Like how she escaped to sunny San Diego, to be spoiled by her childless aunt. Her father would have agreed with her statement and would have wanted her to move on, to be happy. She knew that in her head but her heart was resisting because part of it was the guilt she felt as she associated moving on with forgetting. It was going to take a long while before she realise otherwise.

words | 279 | He looked down once more, swirling the straw of his drink for a moment in thought. Again, she wasn't wrong. He knew that she wasn't. For him it had been a matter of life went on, but he had given up the path he had really wanted to go down. He hadn't wanted to try again. He still wasn't entirely sure if he could ever get to the point of trying again, even if he was taking the matter into more consideration during their conversation.
"Maybe there's a way if you're an example, then," he finally offered to return her kind reassurance, letting her know that he understood and was at least giving it a thought. That was life. Just as he thought, he wasn't alone in dealing with some difficult failures. Other people just dealt with it a bit better than he did. It was difficult to convince himself to give trying a go again, but his life had gone on regardless. He wondered if it would really hurt him to reapply one day. It wasn't as if he couldn't practice and hold down his other jobs still. He could at least keep his work for the tailor and his parents' shop.
"Though if I ever tried again, that would mean less knitting." Seemed like a funny thought since their whole conversation had begun because of it. "At least with more people learning how all the time, Etsy has plenty of options." It was a fairly trendy hobby to get into. Another drink of his coffee and he realized that he was nearly done with it already. He checked his watch to make sure he still had time. |

ATARAXIA (n.)calmness or peace of mind. She had to laugh softly when he said that she was an example that things could turn out okay. Sure, she might look like it but Allison knew that she was far from it, not with all the baggage she still carried around. It will be a while more before she could deem herself okay but that's her secret to keep. She understood what it was like to have something dear to your heart ripped into shreds and it always took time to heal. Music was a lifelong passion, all he needed was to grow and find himself once again before trying. His confidence will return to him, one way or another.
Pride was a funny thing and mixed with esteem, it was not exactly the best combination when it came to failure. For him, someone who had been working so long and hard towards a goal, only to fall short on something abstract, it must have hurt. Music was something dear and precious to him, if not he wouldn't be so dejected. He seemed a little disbelieving still and Allison couldn't blame him. You get burned once, you were going to be reluctance to repeat the same experience twice. But that being said, nothing good came easy and entrance into one of the best music schools in the world was exactly that. She wasn't going to say any more on that because she knew that he got the message. Instead, the conversation returned to knitting.
"I have to admit," Allison began, "that I would be sad to see your designs dwindle. I tried knitting once," she paused, "It didn't work out quite the way I wanted it and I'm sorry to say that I gave up quickly soon after. My yarn got tangled, it was like catnip to my two cats and the needlework was just confusing."
She ended up with a scarf, just that it was far from looking like one. | words 379 tags #duvet #challenge notes May 8th, hipster boy meets cat girl |

words | 298 | Kyu-Sik was all too happy to let the conversation fully swing back to knitting. He nodded, still humbly, at her comments. He hadn't ever thought that much of his work. He was certainly a perfectionist with at least some eye of what worked and what didn't. People seemed to like what he did well enough. However, knitting for him was easy. It took his free time and turned it into something production. Plus, it was also a really great thing for multitasking. Reading a book? Knit. Waiting around at the bank? Knit some more. Maybe it was some weird habit at this point, but he hadn't having his hands sit still for too long. He was patient, but he didn't like doing nothing. Even at that moment he found himself swirling his drink again before taking a sip.
The craft just didn't come easily to some people. His sister had attempted once and gave it up for yo-yoing pretty quickly herself. The tale of someone trying and giving up a bit too soon was not an uncommon one. However, in this case he found himself sitting back and thinking for a moment. His thoughts had turned from one part of their conversation to the other. "Well, if you like knit things that much, there's no reason not to try again," he suggested, mirroring the same idea that had been placed in his mind. "It takes a lot of patience to learn, but it's really easy once you get the hang of it. Though you'd probably want to keep it away from your cats…"
He trailed off for a moment before giving one last nod. "If you ever want to give it a shot, I always have some extra stuff lying around. You could have it if you'd like." |

ATARAXIA (n.)calmness or peace of mind. She was surprised to hear him offer knitting lessons to her, she'd literally just met the kid. But perhaps sometimes there was just this click that came once in a blue moon that had her gut telling her that he was a good kid and she should really take her up on her offer, especially if she wanted to actually make knits as christmas presents this year.
"Coco and Nellie are entirely too smart for their own good, I had made sure that the yarn was kept away from them but somehow, they keep finding it and playing with it. Then I don't really discipline them. So I might spoil them a little too much," she gave him a fond smile as she gushed about her two cats. Then she hesitated because his offer was tempting. It would be nice to make a new friend and learn a new skill at the same time. "Are you sure? I mean, I don't want to take up too much of your time."
"But if you're good to go, I'm down for it. Patience is not a problem. Kneading bread's the same, you just have to keep working at it until you get it right. I just hope I don't spear my eye with a needle."
Her expression was serious and her voice a deadpan but it was a joke, and it was up to Kyu-sik to figure out whether it was one or not. | words 379 tags #duvet #challenge notes May 8th, hipster boy meets cat girl |

words | 274 | To him, it didn't seem all that strange to offer over leftovers he had lying around to someone who was apparently a regular customer of his. He appreciated the business she must have given him, and she seemed like the sort of person that he could easily get along with. It would be good to get rid of what excess he may have accumulated over the past few months, and there wasn't really a better way to do it than to pass on the hobby to someone else.
"I've never had any pets, so I'm not really sure how anyone disciplines cats." Kyu-Sik couldn't see them as the type of animal that could be easily disciplined from what little he knew about them. Hopefully she'd find some way to at least prevent them from doing any damage that wasn't at least recoverable. "It's something you can learn mostly through practice on your own, but I don't mind if you need the help. It can be hard to get started without anyone else." He just had ridiculous amounts of patience and the encouragement of his family members. Maybe a little push in the right direction was all Allison needed if she tried before.
Her deadpan comment caused the subtle smile to return to his face. "If it happens, your first project can be an eyepatch," he returned. He took another drink and, with that, the last of his coffee was gone. He checked his watch and sighed. "I guess I should get going. I can give you my phone number and you can call me whenever you decide you want to give it a try?" |
