Living Situation Though her parents were very well-off, it wasn't enough for Lyn to live off of for very long. A lot of it when to pay for school and supplies and food, since she pawned off on her grandparents while she was still in high school. While they had their own place, they had payments to make themselves and feeding and clothing and generally caring for a teenager again would have been hard without their daughter and son-in-law's money. Most of it was already spent by the time Lyn could move out on her own, but she didn't until her grandparents kicked her out. Now, while working as a parking enforcer for the city, she lives in a one-bedroom apartment all by herself. Before she found the job she was using what was left of her parent's money (some of it had to be used to pay off a few credit card debts) to pay for rent, but after working for the city for three years she's stable and living on her own fairly comfortably, though would still be considered lower-middle class. The only thing that has kept her going in this job when everything else bores her after a few months is the crazy people she gets to tell off. Lyn doesn't have a lot of belongings. She has one small dresser that houses what clothes don't fit in the closet, a mattress that just sits on the floor, a large TV her parents owned and that her grandparents didn't want, a table, a few movies and books, the fridge, some dishes, and a desktop computer she also took from her parents. A lot of the other many belongings that Lyn's parents had were split with her grandparents and any siblings, and the house was sold to support Lyn for as long as possible (but again, those credit card debts). Lyn leads a very meager life. 02. Appearance At first glance, Lyn looks like your average twenty-something-year-old woman. Five foot seven, one hundred eighteen pounds. She dresses only a little flashy, she wears an average amount of make-up (that "natural" look, without having to slap a bunch of blush and eye shadow on as that takes just way too much time) and over all doesn't look terribly remarkable. The only thing that really stands out is how she does her hair. Every once in a while, on a whim, she'll color her hair something that stands out a little bit. The only time it's not terribly noticable is when she's got her hair up and her work hat on. Right now, her flavor of the month is green, to match her eyes. It tends to be her go-to color if she can't decide on something else. Because Lyn doesn't get a lot of sleep, she tends to have that very tired look. Bags under her eyes, bloodshot eyes, the works. It clears up when she finally passes out, but she never looks like she got a lot of sleep. Another thing she doesn't get a lot of is food. Lyn eats enough to keep up her energy and keep her from passing out, but she hardly ever gorges herself on anything, so she tends to stay pretty thin. She's in decent shape at least because she walks everywhere she goes and does a lot of standing and walking for work, but otherwise that's all the exercise she really gets. 03. personality Lyn exudes indifference. She doesn't sugar coat anything and doesn't often make friends because she tends to drive them off by saying something a normal person wouldn't point out. Plus, she doesn't particularly feel the need to have any friends. Outside of her own little bubble, she cares not for anything else. If it doesn't help her in any way, shape, or form, she doesn't care about it. But when she wants something, she does what she can to get it. Depending on what it is, she can be nice or mean, it all depends on what she thinks will be the easiest way based on the personalities around her. Though not extremely selfish, she doesn't do anything that doesn't benefit her. She's the type of person who, if someone is taking forever to buy a cup of coffee because they can't find the cash they swore they had on them, will pay for it just so they can get out of the way and she can get her drink in a timely manner. If she can do it faster and they're in her way, she'll do it for them. People often see it as an act of kindness because outwardly she'll smile and say nice things, but really it was just because you were a big pain in her neck. It's very rare (if it happens at all) that she does anything nice because she just wanted to do something nice. For the most part she's a functional member of society. She pays her bills so she can keep a roof over her head. Lyn has a paying job that she has kept reliably and doesn't bicker too much with her bosses or coworkers, but there's always something a little off about her. A first meeting with Lyn can be extremely off-putting because of the way she holds herself and how overbearing she really is. Lyn has no notion of personal space so she doesn't mind getting up in your business no matter the situation. In general she doesn't seem to care about the feelings of those around her. She's not a worrier. Lyn is hardly ever stressed out about anything and she seems to be without care or worry. Money has no particular meaning to her except that she needs just enough to pay rent, and spends it on otherwise necessary things like food and water, and occasionally paying off some of her parent's debt just to stop those obnoxious calls she's getting. Thankfully her grandparents help out a little bit, but who knows how old they're going to be. Occasionally Lyn is plagued by impulsive buys on knick-knacks that usually end up finding their way to trash weeks later. Though she tends to keep her more impulsive nature under wraps, the right buttons will make her lash out without thinking. Lyn is extremely independent. She doesn't fair well against forms of authority and hates being bossed around. She would much rather like doing the ordering around. It's made keeping jobs hard for her, but with her current job she doesn't see her boss very often and is left mostly to her own devices, she's only told where her territory is. Though not a total control freak, she likes having things at least slightly organized so it's easier for her to find stuff, but it's not meticulous. She just keeps things clean. Stuff goes on desks and tables, clothes go in a specific corner until she decides she needs to do laundry, dishes in the sink and cleaned when needed. . . . She's not a slob but she's not interested in keeping her place clean. As a child and even more so as an adult, Lyn does not play well with others. She doesn't like being part of a team and even abhors dealing with more than a few people at a time. She'd rather do things on her own. It made it hard for her to keep a job when she was first searching and it hindered her grades when she was in school, due to the immense number of group projects that some of her classes assigned. It's hard for her to create any sort of relationship with people, though she tends to pick out people that are tolerable if it suits her. She's drawn more toward the eccentric types, as they are endless means of entertainment. Manipulation is the bread and butter of Lyn's strategy to get through life. She's spent her life playing other people's emotions to get what she wants and can turn into anything at the flip of a switch. She can cry on command to earn pity and get away with things, and she has her entire life. If that doesn't work (which most of the time it does, because she can look pretty pathetic), then she'll figure out some other way. Her lies are a form of art, weaved like a professional seamstress or, more like it, a spider weaving her brilliant web to catch flies in. She seemingly has no dignity and will use even her body unwaveringly to get what she wants. Nothing is off limits. Nothing is taboo. 04. Inner thoughts The side of Lyn no wants to see is hidden deep beneath notions of social norms. It's the side of her that is dark and depraved. She longs to just cut loose one day, but she knows it would not go over well, and she keeps it suppressed so she can continue to live life as she sees fit, instead of behind bars or in a padded cell. No medicine can cure these thoughts, and she hides it so well behind her various masks that only a select few have seen her in her darkest moments, and they tend not to want to talk about it ever again, if they even can. They tend to not want to see her ever again if they catch even a glimpse of the darkness in her, the darkness that lashes out when pressed. Lyn sees the world differently than everyone else. Her morals are skewed and far from what society would deem "just" and "humane." Instead of looking at other people as fellow human beings, she looks down on them like a highly advanced alien would. They're vermin, free to be manipulated and used how she sees fit. Lyn cares not for the society as a whole and moves through her daily life disgusted that she is grouped with the likes of the sheep flocking around her. Humans are livestock to her, just waiting to be slaughtered. She wants an out, a way to prove that she's better than them. She wants to do more than just go through the motions. . .she wants to truly live. Because of her look on the world, she does not feel guilt at anything she does. Guilt is not one of the things she knows. It leaves her free to manipulate and torment the people around her, even if they call her friend. She sees no one as close, her family are not even entirely free from her scorn. Consequences mean nothing to her, either, except that they're minor inconveniences. Not even death motivates her. She doesn't fear that great beyond like most people. It's an inevitable outcome to existence, she's just going to make sure that she did something to make that death worth it. She is waiting. Waiting for that one person to be worth it. She herself doesn't know she's waiting for it, but she is. Many people have come and gone, unaware at how close they were to meeting the end, but they were all so. . . not worth it. So she allowed them to continue on their existence. But one day, it is inevitable that someone will come along who will push her over the edge, who will be the one person she will enjoy tormenting, enjoy killing. And once she starts, she will never stop. That blood-lust, it hides deep in her chest, waiting for an excuse. She just needs the right person to start it, the right person to come along and give their life so that she can feel alive. 05. Hobbies Lyn has gone through quite a few different "hobbies" throughout her lifetime. When she was young, her parents always thought that she needed to do something to keep her busy, something like sports. They let her choose, and she went through several different phases, but nothing ever lasted more than a few months before she moved on or just quit. Hobbies don't last long enough to really become hobbies for Lyn. It's only a matter of time before she tires of something and tries to find something else. She's never been one for collecting, and there weren't many after-school activities she was even remotely interested in, so eventually she stopped doing things. Sports aren't particularly her thing, but she's tried about a handful of them. The first thing she tried as a small child was T-Ball. She ended up thinking it was stupid and boring and quit within a month. Her parents didn't seem to mind: they just wanted her to find something she liked, and if she didn't like it then they weren't going to make her do it. When she was a little older, she decided she wanted to try cheer leading, but after another few months she decided it was way too physically demanding and she quit that. Finally, she picked Tennis. The only reason it managed to catch her interest was because she could play by herself. She didn't need to worry about a team, she didn't have to get along with anybody, and that was how she liked it. However, she was a one-trick pony when it came to Tennis: her strategy was hit the ball as hard as she could right at her opponent and hope it hit them. That was what she liked most about tennis—she could hit people and get the point. It wasn't very sportsmanlike, but it wasn't against the rules so she was free to do it. However, it eventually stopped working on the more skilled opponents, so she stopped playing. Now her hobbies include her job and sitting at home watching television. If you had to sum up how many TV shows and movies she's watched in an amount of time, it would probably go up to months and months. Maybe even a full year. It all surmounted to nothing more than a bunch of random movie quotes and trivia that wouldn't really help her out much in the real world. However, it's something that keeps her entertained for a few hours at a time when she's not at work, being entertained by all of the entitled people who don't think they deserve a parking ticket. Lyn doesn't get a lot of sleep. She blames it on insomnia, but that's not really it. She just thinks she has too many other things to do than sleep. If she could (and she does) she would stay up for days. Instead of sleeping, she catches up on a new show or plays a new video game or watches a movie marathon. When she's not sleeping, she's online reading about crazy things, looking up random trivia or the best ways to dispose of a body. She has a lot of useless information in that head of hers, but she's also learned more from the internet than she ever did at school: she's learning it on her own time instead of being forced to learn it. 06. education Lyn hasn't bothered with her education. She went through the first 17 years of her life trudging through the monotony and dealing with insolent teachers, and she has no plans to go through any more school. She learns what she wants to learn through the internet or educational television if it strikes her fancy. Lyn was never a particularly good student, doing only the bare minimum to make it through school. Her teachers were always aggravated with her and though she was a nightmare to deal with, her parents never did much about it. Lyn was every teacher's nightmare: she never responded to "help" and was sometimes quite insubordinate when she wanted to be. Luckily, she only had to put up with school for a few years, and those few years were riddled with terrible grades, the occasional outburst when her buttons were pushed, and a few in-school suspensions. As soon as she hit seventeen, she got a written notice from her grandparents that she handed to the principal, a notice that she was going to be taking the test for her GED. Her teachers and principals accepted and she spent a whole week studying. It was worth it, because she would never have to go to school ever again if she didn't want to. She passed with average marks, and she stopped going to school and started to look for actual work. 07. History Lynette was never really a normal child. Her parents had big time jobs with big companies and were generally absent, leaving her with baby sitters for most of her life. When she was old enough, she just stayed at home by herself and tended to her own needs. She didn't mind though, not in the least. Though her family was not incredibly rich, they were certainly well-off so she always had things to entertain herself with. Lynette preferred being alone, anyway. People always to share and do things together, things that she never really wanted to do anyway. Play dolls and dress up. . . ick. The lack of attention she got really did a number on her behavior. Her lone-wolf mentality always got her in trouble at school. Her teachers were often calling her parents and telling them that she'd shoved so-and-so, put glue in what's-her-faces hair, and the like. It was usually retaliatory, like if some kid was pestering her or just wouldn't leave her be, but her parents got after her for it. Well, they tried to. But she was never interested in school anyway, and being grounded didn't phase her. After all, she didn't like going out anyway. She had everything she wanted in her room and her parents never paid close enough attention to take all of that away from her either. In reality it was her own form of rebellion, a cry for attention, but when it never really worked, it just made her realize she could get away with whatever she wanted. Eventually, her parents just stopped really trying to punish her. They were too busy with work and trying to provide for the family. She never did anything bad enough for concern, just little things here and there that were disruptive, never anything terribly violent. Well, that they knew of, anyway. Some of the kids at school just never really told the teachers about the worse stuff, too afraid to make her cross. She was no bully, searching out people to pick on, just a girl that wanted to be left well enough alone. It wasn't long before they just learned not to talk to her or try to socialize with her. Up until high school, that managed to keep Lynette out of a lot of trouble. High school made things a little easier. After getting in trouble during her younger years, Lyn decided to fly under the radar. She remained quiet, she ignored people and tolerated their existence. Because she hated school so much and did so poorly grade-wise she was always stuck with the less intelligent students or the delinquents in the "stupid" classes as she sometimes heard people call it. Her distaste for people only grew in these classes. These were definitely scum, and she grouped them with everyone else in the school. Those years really wore her down, and she occasionally lost control of her otherwise composed nature and lashed out at a particularly aggravating teacher. It got her in deep trouble with the school and she was suspended for a few days, just for speaking out of turn and insulting the teacher. As students and teachers alike continued to annoy her to no end, the urge to lash out grew, but she always pressed it deep down, ignoring it. A couple times it got too bad and she acted rashly. Before high school her parents got her a puppy to keep her company while they were gone, but she always hated the thing. It was loud and obnoxious and she hated taking care of it. One day, on a particularly obnoxious day of one kid teasing her during gym, she took it out on the dog. It was barking and barking, and she just couldn't take it anymore. She ran it through the drying machine for an hour, then ditched the body somewhere. In order to keep her parents from plaguing her life with another pet, she cried and cried about it running away, refusing to let them replace their missing pet. She told them that if she couldn't have that dog, then she didn't want any others. The last half of her sophomore year was a disaster. For winter break her parents surprised Lynette with a family trip. Though less than thrilled, she went anyway. There wasn't much of a choice, and she expressed her distaste often, but they said it would be good to do something as a family. They were headed up to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado to go skiing. However, their car was not meant to drive in snow, and it was a recipe for disaster. Her father took a corner too fast in the snow on the winding mountain roads and crashed. They were air-lifted to the nearest hospital, but Lyn was the only one to survive. Her mother died in surgery, and her father died some time later while Lynette was placed into a medical coma while she recovered. Despite the tragedy, Lynette wasn't as torn up as she played it out to be. She used the accident as a cover, cried at the appropriate times, and just went through the recovery process. It was all just terribly inconvenient, not all that saddening. To her, anyway. She was left in the care of her elderly grandparents and had to switch school to live with them, but other than that there weren't many repercussions. The school was a little more obnoxious than normal though because now everyone wanted a piece of the new girl. She tolerated it for a while, but her general lack of interest in anyone made a few of them bitter. One particular boy tormented her because she wouldn't retaliate, but finally Lyn had had enough. It was during gym class and they were running the mile. Lynette was taking her sweet time, walking even when the teacher told her to run, and only running occasionally just so she wasn't there all day. That same boy was in her class and every time he passed her, he had to take shots at her. It got so annoying that she just had to shut him up. The next time he passed, the next time he remarked on how bad she was, she struck. He moved just enough in front of her that she could shove him. When he hit the ground, she kicked him. The teacher saw and sent her and the boy to the office. Lyn turned on the water works, told the principal how he bullied her daily and how she'd finally worked up the courage to strike back. She still got in trouble, but so did he. Finally she turned seventeen. Though she had a few more problems, they were much less troubling than what she'd done to that boy. Thankfully it made people leave alone, but she still couldn't stand being at school. She filed to take her GED and her teachers signed off on it even though she was one year too old (with the proper paperwork she was able to take it before eighteen). She passed and was free of school and students and teachers forever. Life was a little easier for her after that and she had less and less outbursts. Every once in a while she'd talk back to her grandparents, but she behaved herself now with no real outlet. But then she had to get a job. Jobs were a difficult thing, but her grandparents were even more obnoxious than her parents and she wanted out. She wanted to be on her own where no one could bother her, but most jobs required her to have people skills and while she could fake it for a while, she ended up quitting her jobs before she wound on some blacklist, unable to get work. If she couldn't work, she couldn't live the way she wanted to, so she had to make sacrifices. Eventually she found the job as a parking enforcer. She could be out and about, the hours weren't totally lousy, and she wasn't required to be nice. It seemed almost perfect. The hardest part was convincing them to hire her at such a young age, but she proved herself in training. Now she just lives her life, waiting for that special something that will make her really alive. 08.
