Words: 360 ● Tag: JUN SHI WEI ● Timestamp: May 15th, 2012 Closing time, Valoel was not sure if she found herself happy or sad that another work day was over. After all she loved the cafe, the people she worked with were great and the customers were friendly. After what felt like a long shift it was finally time to go home, and she even had a little prize to take home. She had been given a cake by the owner as a bit of a thank you. Valoel had seen no trouble to it, but today was meant to be her day off, but after two girls had called out she had been called to come in. Valoel had not problem with it, but it seemed that the boss treated her like a life savor, thanking her multiple times throughout the day.
Now all she was doing was waiting for her ride, which just so happened to be late. Valoel could only guess why, Mari had the late shift today and told Valoel that she would pick her up whenever she could catch a break. Valoel had said that it was no problem, that she was perfectly fine with waiting. Yet now that she was there, standing outside the empty shop alone, she did not feel so thrilled about waiting. She had kept her uniform on too, not thinking to change since she had assumed that Mari would be right out front. She fumbled between her purse and the cake she was holding, trying her best to get to her cell phone. She wanted to check if she got any calls, or text or even a voicemail, but there was nothing.
Her pink smart phone was blank, the last text was from Amanda, they had been texting last night and Amanda had been sweet and wished her a goodnight when she went to bed. Maybe now was a good time to text her back, let her know that she hadn’t called or text because she had work today. She kept her eyes on her phone as she wrote out the text with one hand, still doing her best to play balancing act with the cake in her other hand.

tagged: VALOEL O'CALLAGHEN time: May 15. speech: Jun Shi. notes: - - -. Jun Shi crept, though it wasn’t so much of a creep as it was a silent walk. It was night, fairly late, but he always liked to take his walks then. Nothing could befall him, oh no. He was a snake, and somehow, people knew it. They generally stayed away from him, but if they did approach, he could administer a good beating despite a lithe frame. Walks on Skid Row with Mirach was also fairly common. Their dates were always enjoyable, but he was without her company that day.
He sought to entertain himself.
He eventually stumbled across Little Tokyo; his walks brought him to the strangest of places. For starters, he rarely ever took walks during the morning, preferring to conduct his various businesses at night. Jun Shi was one of those reverse people who often slept through the day and became productive after the sun set. Of course, the productivity often had to do with kidneys and livers and people in buckets of ice, but he wouldn’t ever say it.
New things had cropped up since he last visited Little Tokyo, one being… a maid café? The hell was a maid café? He paused in front of it, looking up at the glowing sign before his eyes went to the girl standing in front. She was wearing a maid costume. The hell was this, some sort of fetish dungeon?
”Hey, um… What is a maid café, by any chance?” He was being fairly civil for now.

Words: 364 ● Tag: JUN SHI WEI ● Timestamp: May 15th, 2012 By the time she was done texting Valoel’s attention was stolen by a voice, she didn’t know this person but was more than willing to answer his question. What was a maid cafe? A good question, Valoel did not always know what a maid cafe was either but when she was looking for a job and found this one she was quick to learn what it was and how fun it could be. She thought about how to explain it, it felt like it would be something ease to explain, but she didn’t was to give him the wrong idea about it either.
”Well a maid cafe is really like any other cafe, we serve cakes, snacks, tea and other food items, The only real difference is that the uniform is a maid outfit, so normally only girl work here and while we work we are tasked with taking the role of a maid. We greet our customers with a smile and as if they are our master or mistress that have just returned home. We seat you and cater to you until you leave. I find the job to be very fun, its like playing dress up and pretend.” Valoel really did hope that her explanation made sense, though she was willing to try to go into better detail of he wanted. She dropped her phone into her bag and slowly turned to face him, that cake box she held was threatening to fall if she wasn’t careful. She extended her free hand for a handshake and smiled.
”I’m Valoel by the way, I’m really sorry if that explanation was not good, it really is hard to explain. I would say if you really want to know more, why not come visit us, of course we’re closed now, but we’re normally open every day a few hours before and after lunch time.” There it was, if she couldn’t get him to understand it now, if he had time maybe he could get a visit in some other time and get a hands on experience.

tagged: VALOEL O'CALLAGHEN time: May 15. speech: Jun Shi. notes: - - -. Most girls tended to look nervous when approached at night, no matter who was the one doing the approaching. Jun Shi looked nonthreatening enough at first glance, at least, which certainly helped his case the vast majority of the time. This girl didn’t seem hesitant whatsoever, and promptly got to explaining what the hell a maid café was.
Whelp, certainly did sound like a fetish dungeon. Of a different kind, but still a good ways along those lines.
He leaned back on his heels, looking up at the sign again. He should’ve figured that out, he supposed. He did some business in the area, and he couldn’t believe he missed the maid café, of all places.
Valoel… What a weird name. He’d never heard something like that before, but then this was LA and definitely more diverse than the environment he’d grown up in. He’d done dealings with people that had stranger aliases, though. Perhaps it was a fake sort of name. Oh well, didn’t matter to him.
He reached out to shake her hand, a small but friendly smile on her face. ”Little Phoenix.” He rarely gave out Jun Shi first and foremost, after all. He hadn’t even done that with Mirach, let alone some… maid… wench… whatever she was.
”Only during lunch, though?” He was usually home around that time, still lounging around. ”Well, sounds like a… a nice place, no less.”

Words: 324 ● Tag: JUN SHI WEI ● Timestamp: May 15th, 2012 Yes Val did have a rather strange name, but then again her parents were interesting people who thought naming her after the angel of peace was a great idea. Not that Valoel had any problems with her name, she liked it and if anything it could be shorten to Val fairly easily which was what most people called her to begin with. When the man introduced himself as Little Phoenix she did not find it as strange or odd. Instead she only thought about how neat it would be to be named after something so “cool”
To Val she only guessed that maybe his real name was too hard to say so instead he gave the literal translation so that people had an easier way of calling him. What did leave Val confused was what to do about a nickname, Little Phoenix was pretty long to say after all. She doubt she could call him little, that was just odd, but then again she didn’t know if calling just Phoenix was allowed either. For now she would just stick to saying the whole thing, and if she got a chance at another time she would explore the chance of nicknames.
”A pleasure to meet you Little Phoenix.” She smiled as she always did, so far couldn’t this encounter as that start of some sort of friendship. Then again Val’s main goal when meeting anyone was to make friends, the girl was almost incapable of making an enemy, at least not on her own. ”Oh it really is a wonderful place!” Now entered that awkward moment where Valoel had no clue what to say and had no reason to leave. She was waiting for a ride and until that ride came she had no where to go. So basically she was trapped standing there holding a box next to some guy that she had no clue if he was coming or going.

tagged: VALOEL O'CALLAGHEN time: May 15. speech: Jun Shi. notes: - - -. Friendly girl, a pretty blond standing on the end of the street at such a late hour in a maid outfit no less. She was bound to attract some unwanted attention at some point or another, and what sort of gentleman would he be to just let her sit there alone? Or more importantly, why the hell was she still in a maid outfit? Little Tokyo might’ve been a nice place, but that didn’t stop some fucking weird people coming around that time of night.
Fucking odd people, or the dangerous ones that crawled and snapped.
He tilted back on his heels a bit, taking a slow breath of the night air. Little Tokyo always had a peculiar smell to it. Either that, or Jun Shi spent too much time in filthy places, elbow-deep in some poor wanker’s body cavity and digging around his intestines to find that one kidney they both missed. He had fun, of course, but the smell was terrible and some fresh air did him good.
”So what’re you waiting around here for, anyways?” There was nothing but polite curiousity in his voice, nothing predatory quite yet. He was being patient with this one; she seemed like a mouse, though a very ill defended one. He didn’t want to send her scurrying quite yet, and if anything, chasing a girl down an alley was more suspicious than just talking on a street corner.

Words: 400 ● Tag: JUN SHI WEI ● Timestamp: May 15th, 2012 To say that Valoel was like a trapped bunny would be an understatement for some. She had no where to go, was waiting for a ride that she had no clue when it was coming and was standing there in the night mostly by herself. Maybe she should have changed out of her uniform, though the change had passed and was no longer an option. What bothered Valoel just a pinch was that Little Phoenix was still there, chatting with her instead of moving on his way. It was friendly and all, but somewhere in the back of her mind Valoel was reminded by the voice of Marielle to beware of men, any man that wanted to talk during such a late night was considered ‘dangerous’ in the words of her caretaker.
Of course Valoel had trouble believe that all men were bad, sure some were mean, but others were great to be around. Like Cal, he was great, funny, silly, a little bit of a troublemaker, but still a guy with a great heart. She did not know Little Phoenix well but was not convinced that he was any kind of bad guy just yet, he had been nothing but kind and friendly since they met. Maybe he was a good guy, and who know maybe he was as fun to be around as some of her friends were. Valoel enjoyed making friends want would not be put off of adding this new guy to that list. She just, wasn’t not so sure yet.
Maybe if they talked for a bit longer she would get a better reading on the guy, maybe get a feel for how good of a heart he had. After all for Valoel everyone had a piece of good in them, it just mattered on how big that piece was. ”Ah, well I got off work a while ago, but I am waiting for my ride home. You see she works at the hospital so running late is fairly common, but I have no problem waiting. I’m just grateful that she is willing to take the time to come and get me.” Valoel would wait the whole night if Marielle told her two, just as she always told Val to stay in front of the shop at all times in the light until she could make her way over to pick her up.

tagged: VALOEL O'CALLAGHEN time: May 15. speech: Jun Shi. notes: - - -. Not all men were bad, no. Kun Shui couldn’t really be considered bad, despite being the heir to a triad. He was a little rough at times and he was cold, but he wasn’t bad. Now Jun Shi… he was bad. Bad to the bone. He was a snake in the disguise of a man with fangs dripping in poison. To say that all men were bad wasn’t true, but to say that Jun Shi was rotten was fairly accurate.
Little chats were his way of worming in, disarming the weary and getting close enough to strike. He was good at what he did, giving people a sense of false security before finally striking to the core. It just depended on how worthy he deemed a person. He wouldn’t waste his time on a bore, and he wouldn’t waste his time on something smaller than he thought was worth.
Now, was this girl worth it?
So she was waiting for a ride from a friend that worked at the hospital. He seemed to consider that for a moment, staring blankly ahead before he let out a long breath. ”Sounds like it might be a while.” He muttered under his breath, clicking his tongue just a bit.
The cogs were turning, alright.
”Why don’t I walk you home, hm? Doesn’t seem really safe to leave a lady alone at night.”

Words: 241 ● Tag: JUN SHI WEI ● Timestamp: May 15th, 2012 ”Could be, I’m never really sure on when she’ll get here.” Even with that uncertainty Valoel still had a lot a faith in Marielle, she trusted the women more than most people would. The thing was that Valoel knew Marielle very well, she not only saw her as a caretaker, but also as a friend and in some cases as an older sister or mother figure. Jun Shi’s next question had her pause for a second as she really thought about it. Her house was pretty far, in fact walking would not go well, the buses took over an hour to get there from her work, and by care it was a good twenty minutes or so.
”I was told to stay here, also its a pretty far trip, a good twenty minute drive.” So yes walking was out of the question, and like she said she was told to stay there, and stay she would. Valoel was the good girl, she did her best to listen to her parents and Marielle and wanted nothing but to keep them happy. She did however want to do her best to not be a burden on them and that was why she made an effort to do things on her own. Such as getting a job, going to school and just overall doing things herself without help. Though some of those things ended in disaster, such as cooking or laundry.

tagged: VALOEL O'CALLAGHEN time: May 15. speech: Jun Shi. notes: - - -. Jun Shi leaned out to glance down the road, though it only looked like he was seeing if the girl’s ride was there. No real witnesses, so he could make do. Everything was closed at this hour and like hell he’d strike in a public place. Jun Shi was crazy, but he wasn’t stupid and definitely not rash enough to get elbow-deep in someone’s ribcage where people could see him clear as day.
”Sounds like it’s quite a while away. What neighbourhood do you live in, anyways?” Jun Shi sounded noncommittal, like he was making small talk. Rooting for information was a very casual thing for him, whether he was interested in a person or not. Knowing where people lived, what they worked as, bits and pieces of their personal lives… Who knew when he’d need it, if he’d need it at all. He always came prepared, though.

Words: 246 ● Tag: JUN SHI WEI ● Timestamp: May 15th, 2012 She shifted in her stance a little, her feet were starting to let her know that she had been standing too long today, between work and now waiting. Valoel couldn’t help but follow Jun Shi’s lead, leaning a bit to see if any cars were coming, still nothing.
“Brentwood, its a nice little area.” Nothing about this seemed weird to Valoel, so he asked a few questions, to Val that only meant that he was trying to get to know her. She had just mentioned that it took a while to get home so of course he would ask where home was. It wasn’t like he was going to come over one day and find her house, Valoel was naive, but she wasn’t about to give him her address.
Something clicked in Valoel’s brain, if he was asking questions maybe she should as well. After all it took two to tangle and while she waited it was nice to get to talk to someone. ”What about you? Do you live near by?” It was a honest question, and seemed fair for her to ask since he asked her. She got slightly distracted by her phone which vibrated in her purse, she shuffled in her bag till she found it and took a look. It was just a text from Amanda, still no Marielle. She was asking if Valoel was home yet, which she replied with a 'Not yet still waiting.'

tagged: VALOEL O'CALLAGHEN time: May 15. speech: Jun Shi. notes: - - -. Brentwood… Brentwood… He knew of it, but that was as far as it got. Perhaps he’d begin to dig around there. After all, he was looking for a missing person right now and had a brother on the other end that would give him anything if he’d just find the other half. At this point, nearly a month had gone by and he hadn’t found a single thing, which was unusual for him. Brentwood, perhaps, would give him something new to look at.
But it was time for her to ask him questions, and he evaded them with a certain practiced skill.
”Yeah.” He nodded, his eyes flicking to the street behind the girl just for a second. Nobody was there. It was like a ghost town, if the ghosts all came to this one place while the living surrounded them elsewhere. ”Just a little south of here, actually.” It still answered the question, though also happened to be as vague as possible. No need for her to find out.
”It’s getting really late, Valoel. Are you sure your ride is even coming?” Just a little more pushing.

Words: 237 ● Tag: JUN SHI WEI ● Timestamp: May 15th, 2012 His answer really only half answered her question, telling Valoel very little about where he lived. She only took it as meaning that he lived in little tokyo, or at least near by. After all he had been walking, and she saw no signs of a car so maybe he had been taking a walk from his home. Either way it was a answer and Valoel was going to take it, whether it made much sense or not.
”It is getting late, but like I said she works at the hospital, for all I know there was an emergency and she’s in the middle of it right now?” It was the main reason why Valoel hadn’t texted Marielle knowing just how busy the woman was. She didn’t want to bother her and was just fine waiting however long it would take. She did however have one worry, the cake was a really good cake, but it had already been sitting out since earlier today and she was worried that it would go bad if she didn’t get it home.
”I am a little worried, but not about my ride, just about this cake, I’d hate for it to just go bad while I’m waiting.” Maybe she should call a friend, or check on the buses.. but then she would be moving from her spot, and she had promised not to move.

tagged: VALOEL O'CALLAGHEN time: May 15. speech: Jun Shi. notes: - - -. That meant she’d be waiting for a long time, if her friend was stuck in the middle of something. It seemed odd for someone to wait indefinitely like that. Didn’t she have someone else that could swoop in and save her? Didn’t she have another friend that could just as easily pick her up from where she worked at the kink dungeon or whatever? No, he wasn’t planning on visiting any time soon at all.
And she was worried about the cake. The goddamn cake. She was standing in the street late at night with a strange man, dressed up in a maid outfit and she was worried about if her cake would go bad. ”Sort of a weird thing to be worried about at this time.” He remarked, muttering just a little under his breath.
Jun Shi paused for a second, fiddling around with his pockets. So what else should he dig up? He had her workplace, her residence but not her address… What else would he bother to get before going on his merry way? Digging for information was not only useful, but entertaining. He couldn’t risk actually chasing her down here; people watched, after all. There was the occasional person going by, and he couldn’t risk that.
”You sure there’s nothing you need, darling?” Darling, such an endearing word. He tossed it around too much for it to have true meaning, but nobody really needed to know.

Words: 240 ● Tag: JUN SHI WEI ● Timestamp: May 15th, 2012 ”No not really.”
She shook her head from side to side, there really wasn’t anything she could think of that she needed at the moment. Well the thought of Marielle getting here to pick her up was a thought, but just because it was getting late and she was still worried about the cake. Then there was Seven and Fluffy to worry about. Oh no, she couldn’t believe this, it had been hours since anyone was home to take care of them.
”Oh no, I just remembered, Seven and Fluffy have been left alone almost all day, poor things must be so hungry.”
She felt really bad now. Maybe she would give it ten more minutes, ten more and she would call Marielle’s phone, see if she was coming. If not then Valoel would get someone else to come, or grab the bus. She didn't know if Marielle would get angry with her or not, but maybe if she got Amanda to meet her first that would fix things. She made a quick text on her phone, it was to Amanda, asking her if she was busy.
”I really hope they will be ok.” She really did sound worried, little did Jun Shi know that she was worried about the safety of a dog and mutated man eating plant. Once just needed a nice bowl of dog food, while the other was munching on frozen/thawed mice.

tagged: VALOEL O'CALLAGHEN time: May 15. speech: Jun Shi. notes: - - -. Huh, nothing, really? Well, he supposed he’d leave this one alone. She was lucky that her job was in a place where there were some people at all times. Even though only one or two walked by across the street every once in a while, being the last one seen with a missing person was never a good idea no matter how tempting it happened to be.
Then she mentioned… Seven and Fluffy? Those were the most uncreative names he’d heard. Jun Shi tilted his head at her in a borderline mock curiousity. Yeah, she might’ve been a nice girl, and she would’ve been great to string along and all, but they were in no place for that and otherwise she was a bit… air-headed for his liking. Jun Shi liked to play, after all, and having a constantly confused and up-ended toy wasn’t fun.
”Seven and Fluffy? So you have pets, or something?” Must’ve been pets, really. Dogs? Yeah, probably dogs or a cat. She seemed like the sort.

Words: 330 ● Tag: JUN SHI WEI ● Timestamp: May 15th, 2012 ”Oh! Yes they are. Seven is a beautiful golden retriever, he’s owned by my caretaker, the woman that is coming to pick me up.” Her worries started to melt away as she got to talk about something that made her happy. Even more so when she realized that she got to talk about Fluffy. Between Marielle and her best friends, Val really had no one new to talk to about Fluffy so this guy, this wonder man in front of her was going to give her the chance to do so. She brighten up and smiled while she made sure to turn towards Jun Shi and give him her full attention.
”Well Fluffy isn’t really a pet, kind of like a best friend, but he’s a plant. Fluffy is a carefully made cross breed, bred by mixing a Dionaea muscipula, Aldrovanda vesiculosa and a bit of a Darlingtonia californica. He started out just a stem, but since I’ve been raising him these past few months he’s gotten a lot bigger. Marielle likes to call him a man eating plant, but He’s actually very gentle. Sure he’s up to eating mice now, but he knows the difference between food and friend. Fluffy is kind of like a dog, thats a plant, but he’s never bit me before. Oh! Maybe I could show you him one day, if you’d like? I could always bring him by the cafe, though not sure how my boss would like that. Oh and I also have other plants, more normal ones of course but they are still beautiful, like the new Laevigataes I just got!” Oh boy was she ever going to stop? Probably not, the only reason she did now was to take a breath and maybe give Jun Shi a chance to respond. The one trick to being a friend of Val was knowing just what to talk about without getting your ear talked off.

Jun Shi stood there, head tilted slightly to the side, and he swore his brain was going numb from the sheer overload of confusion. On one hand, the only thing she seemed to be worried about was the goddamn cake for several minutes and all the sudden she was vomiting scientific… plant names? Were they plant names? She mentioned a man eating plant somewhere, right?
He didn’t know. She was talking much too fast for him to actually grasp anything. Yeah, no, he was getting out. Screw getting her somewhere alone; she was just going to talk his ear off about… Dionaea muscipula or whatever the fuck that was. Was that even how you said it?
Okay, no, Jun Shi was gone and he was definitely not coming back to the café.
”Hey, listen, I sort of have to go. Uh, I guess I’ll see you around?” Question mark. Very, very question mark.
Jun Shi barely waited for her to answer. He just turned on his heels and began to walk in the other direction.

She sounded a bit sad and defeated that he was leaving so soon, just when they were getting along so well. Well if he really had to go she wasn’t going to stop him, but maybe she could do something for him as a token of their friendship. The thing was she had no clue what she could do, and became distracted when her phone vibrated once again. This time it was from Marielle she was finally on her was and would be there any second. When then she needed to be quick about this.
Valoel took the cake that she had been holding this whole time and pushed it into his chest so that he would grab onto it. ”Here as a token of our new found friendship I offer you this cake. Please take it.” She smiled happily and the took a few steps away so that she was back to standing in front of the shop. ”Have a safe trip home, I hope we meet again soon.”
