Living Situation Hana was originally born in Hawaii with her mother, father, and older sister. They lived there until she was about six, and then her father was offered a better-paying job in California. With two kids to take care of, they decided it was best if he took it and they moved with him. So, the hopped over to the mainland and started their new life in Los Angeles. Her father worked for a big contracting company and her mother worked in a local hair salon. It didn't pay much, but it was what she enjoyed doing. Her and her sister were four years apart, and both went to public schools. They were a little more well-off than middle class, but they were only just able to live comfortably. Now, Hana lives out her days as a pseudo-prisoner. Most of the time she is confined to the Impedio Society bases, whichever one she happens to belong to at the time. She has been shared between the Impedio Society leaders since she was first picked up when she was sixteen. For the first four years she was hardly allowed outside at all, and if she did get to wander to the outside world she was always with escort and it was never for more than a couple hours at a time. However, after those four years of service they started giving her more leniency and removed her escorts, but she was still to wear an ankle tracker at all times. But, at least she was allowed to leave the base. 02. Appearance Though Hana is close to her thirties, she looks much younger than that, most likely due to her heritage and/or the fact that her mother always looked younger than her actual age, as well. She has straight black hair that she keeps short, always keeping it just around her shoulders. Any longer and she feels that it becomes too much to care for. Her hair is thick, and she doesn't usually do much to it. She doesn't have to pull it back, and it's naturally pretty straight so she doesn't have to style it. Not that she would bother to, anyway, even if she was stuck with bed head. Hana doesn't bother much with her appearance anymore. At one point it was really important, but now it's not even on her radar as an important thing. She is short, like her grandmother. Hana only stands around five foot two inches, though she is a healthy weight. A balanced diet and occasional exercise (though nothing more than a walk around town) keep her at one hundred eleven pounds, though it can fluctuate depending on where she is living at the time and under who's care she is. Sometimes she might fall on the short end, around ninety-eight pounds, and sometimes she can reach up to one hundred twenty pounds. If she's not allowed outside, then she gets a little heavier. But everyone at least keeps her well-fed. She wears pretty low-key clothes and prefers darker colors. Her eyes are what tend to stand out about her, if anything. Besides the eye patch she wears over her left eye, she has one bright red eye. Originally her eyes were just your average brownish green color, nothing special. But when she made the contract with the shadow monster and her bunny was endowed with power, it eventually changed red. It doesn't really effect how she sees, though. Hana wears the eye patch because her eye was horribly damaged in the shadow monster's attack. She lost use of it and reconstruction surgery could not repair the cosmetic damages, so she wears it to keep from making people uncomfortable. 03. the Bunny The bunny she carries around, despite its age, looks fairly new. When it was first endowed with powers it had a couple minor tears and was pretty scruffy and used, but after the power it received it was repaired. Now she takes extremely good care of it and keeps the little stuffed animal in prime condition. It has the same style as a common teddy bear, but with long years that stand straight up, little button eyes, a sewed-on nose, and a little bow around it's neck. It looks pretty normal no matter how you look at it. Hana carries it around in a large purse that she keeps everything else in, and its head is always sticking out of the bag. 04. Personality At one point Hana was a happy girl. She loved her family very much and thought only about how exciting it would be when she was finally old enough to start wearing makeup, when she would get her driver's license, and whether or not the boy that sat in front of her liked her or not. She probably would have continued to be that happy girl, but fate or destiny had other plans for her. Hana is no longer a happy person. Hope is not a luxury she can afford. She is looked at with fear and has little friends except for the occasional kind word sent her way. Though she is not depressed or ailing from any other mental disorder, she can sometimes be mistaken for it. But really, all she is is resigned. She understands her place in the world and does not fight it. Though she isn't necessarily shy, Hana is a quiet girl. She keeps to herself mostly and tries not to get attached to most people. It would be inconvenient if she made friends: she is moved around too much to really settle in. However, she is polite and will speak when spoken to and even carry out a conversation with someone, if she fancies the topic. Despite being generally polite and soft-spoken, she does know how to put her foot down and will stand her ground on certain matters. Though quiet, she is a fairly strong woman who has her own opinions and will make sure they are heard, though she tries to at least remain polite unless she is pushed too far. At that point, it is wise not to push her any further. Hana seems to have dulled emotions, almost like she doesn't feel anything in full-force. She is hardly caught crying, and when amused the most you get is a smile and maybe a refined titter. However, there is one thing that she reacts to extravagantly--her stuffed bunny. She is extremely careful with it and any inquiries about it are met with animosity and sometimes hostility. If it is missing for even just a couple minutes, she is prone to extreme panic and fear. When it has been missing for longer than that, she usually responds with a full-blown mental breakdown. Hana has become very good at keeping track of it and it is hardly ever out of her site, so it does not happen often unless someone managed to snatch it from her. LIKES AND DISLIKES She has a little sweet-tooth; her favorite foods are ice cream and cake and cookies, though just for treats. Hana doesn't particularly enjoy spicy foods and has very little tolerance for even the weakest of spicy meals. Though she doesn't usually attempt to get drunk, Hana does enjoy the occasional alcoholic beverage. Her favorite is pina coladas, though a margarita will do if nothing else is available. It usually causes problems though because she looks so young. She watches anime occasionally, though usually just comedies. It's the same with movies; she would prefer something funny or full of action and adventure to anything else, especially horror. Horror is what her job is, she doesn't want to deal with it on her days off. Hana has always wanted an aquarium. 06. History CHILDHOOD Hana was born four years after her older sister Megumi. Both of her parents were born in Hawaii, but after her father got a better job offer they moved to California. Hana was always excited for school and never fussed much. She worked hard for her grades and always did as her parents asked. The move to California was a little hard on her, but she bounced back after a while and made new friends. She and her sister got along pretty well, too. Meg always looked after her and would play with her, and Hana looked up to her. Her older sister was good at tennis and always got good grades, so Hana wanted to be like her when she got older. THE ATTACK When Hana was 12, she and her family were watching a tennis match her sister was in. Their team ended up winning, and her parents decided to take them all out to dinner and ice cream. Of course, they were going to take them out anyway, whether or not they had won. Maybe not ice cream, but dinner at least. It was while they were at the local ice cream joint that they were attacked. For some reason, a shadow demon had decided to strike. Hana and her family were in line waiting to order when he struck. A lot of people were killed in his initial entrance, but Hana's parents managed to shuffle their kids to a corner, and despite some injuries, they had survived the initial attack. While the demons were distracted, they hid in the bathroom with a few others. However, the demon's minions found them and dragged them out of hiding. When Megumi fought back and kicked one of the minions, they struck and mortally wounded her. Hana and her family were also attacked, and Hana's face was badly scratched up and one of the demons managed to hurt her eye badly. Parents begged and cried for them to be spared, that they would do anything. The beast listened to her pleas not out of mercy, but out of his own interest. He told her parents that in exchange for sparing their lives, she would from there on own their youngest daughter. Even though they said to take them instead, he didn't listen. He picked up the stuffed rabbit that Hana had dropped. The rabbit was actually her older sister's: Megumi thought it was lucky, but knew it would look strange if she carried it around, so Hana had brought it for her. He enchanted the rabbit and told her all about it, and what it entailed. He told her that it would be her job to strike fear in the heart of people in his stead. Eventually, after death, she would be his property. At the time Hana wasn't really sure exactly what it actually meant, she was just glad that she hadn't died, and that she hadn't lost her parents. An ambulance was called and the survivors were taken care of, but Megumi didn't survive her wounds and died in the operation room. Hana's eye was repaired the best it could be, but she would always be stuck with the scars. She was given an eye patch to hide the disfigured eye, but it was still uncomfortable being around people. She didn't attend school for two weeks after the incident before she eventually had to return, though she never wanted to go back. AFTERMATH Going back to school was rough. The eye patch got her a lot of unwanted attention and she was teased constantly for carrying the bunny everywhere she went. Her new demeanor after the attack made her lose most of her friends, though one or two tried for several months to continue to include her and talk to her, but they eventually gave up when they moved on to the next year. However, the bullying was terrible. Hana tried leaving the bunny at school, figuring that being away from it for the length of school would be okay, but it always made her so sick she had to go home. Eventually she just learned to ignore the taunts, but it was hard. They tried so hard to get her attention when the teacher wasn't around. One day, when the teacher stepped out for a bit, a couple of Hana's tormentors--some of the "snobby girls" as her friends used to call them--snatched the bunny from her school bag and taunted her with it. At first Hana was just annoyed and wanted the bunny back. She tried to ignore it, figuring that when the girls didn't get a rise out of her, they might just give it back and leave her alone, that they would get bored. However, when she didn't respond to their taunts, they threatening to start cutting its limbs off. Hana remembered what the demon had said: if it was destroyed, she would die. It got the rise out of her that they wanted, and the continued to tease her about it, and her classmates just watched. A few left to go find a teacher, others had already wandered out when the teacher had left. Hana begged with them and pleaded, trying to explain that if they destroyed it, it would be terrible. But they got close to cutting off an ear. Hana wasn't sure what would happen if they cut off part of the bunny, but she could only imagine that she would lose that part of her as well, or it would be extremely painful. In a panic, she lunged for them and managed to grab one of the legs. All she could think about at that moment was making them suffer. When she grabbed that bunny, and the girls looked at it to make sure Hana didn't get it, she did just that. When the teacher finally returned at the behest of the students that came to get him, several of the students were on the ground screaming or yelling about varying things. Hana was one of the ones on the floor, eyes wide as she hugged the bunny to her chest, terrified but the things she'd made them see. RECRUITED TO THE IS It wasn't but three years later that Hana was found by the Impedio Society. Hana had to change schools twice because of the way she was treated, but also because when things got really bad, she would use the bunny to fend off her tormentors. It was because she occasionally used the bunny that the IS found her. They came to her house and first attempted to take the bunny from her so she couldn't use it anymore, but she frantically explained the situation from behind her protective father, the two agents had a little talk. When they came back, they said that Hana would be coming with them. If the bunny couldn't come, then she'd have to come with it. Her artifact was too powerful for them to just leave alone to her own devices. When they tried to take her, though, she and her parents fought back. If it hadn't been for quick thinking on one of the agent's part, Hana might have used the bunny on both of the agents and dug herself her own grave. They made a deal and eventually Hana agreed to go with them. Part of the deal was her parents going back to Hawaii where they would live out in semi-retirement, and Hana had to come live at the headquarters, getting all of her education there. She would work for them and help support her parents in Hawaii. The family said their goodbyes and Hana was taken to the current leaders for her delegation. For the years to come, Hana spent her time in the headquarters. Occasionally she would be called on to work her magic on someone for interrogation. The first few years were rough--she wasn't treated very well, just barely above humane, and she didn't particularly like her job. She not only was torturing people, but she had to stand there and watch what the bunny was showing these people. Eventually she learned how to influence the illusions and how to play a part in them. That was when it started getting easier. She started getting better results out of her time with prisoners and criminals, and it was easier when she wasn't just watching the horror but playing a part in it. As she got older she stopped being afraid of her own illusions.Things at the Impedio Society got easier. CURRENT Hana was never under supervision of the same person for long. She'd spend a few months under the care of one leader then get shipped off to another leader for a few more months. She never spent more than a year with one person and was always shared and borrowed like she was a tool instead of a person. After a while she got used to it, and after a while she was always granted more and more freedoms. The person who is charge of her now is Giovanni. Though usually not stationed in America, Hana finds herself back in California under his charge. He treats her well enough for her not to feel bitter toward him, unlike some of the leaders in the past. She doesn't know if she'll ever get out of this situation, but she's resigned to her fate and tries to get through it without feeling too bad. 07. artifact The monster she ran into entrusted her with a special gift--her favorite stuffed bunny that she had on her at the time of the encounter was endowed with a powerful magic. Powerful, but terrible. It was a double-edged sword if there ever was one. Though he called it a gift, it was nothing but a curse to the poor girl. Every time Hana uses its powers, she is giving away her life to the beast. Every use drains a chunk of her life force, shortening her natural life span. This is based off of how long she uses it--one hour equals two hours off her life span, etc. She must keep the stuffed bunny on her at all times. The further away from her it is, the sicker she will feel until she collapses. It won't kill her, but she will feel like she is. When it is activated the toy creates an elaborate illusion that borders on altering reality itself, but it still only an illusion. It reaches deep into the very soul of a person and brings their darkest nightmares and fears to life. Hana uses it for interrogation. She can leave it activated for as long as needed, but if the target (it works on up to three people at once) is left in this illusion for too long, they can be driven mad by fear. And the longer she uses it, the more it drains her. It takes double off her life for how long she uses it, but extended use will make her collapse and could put her into a temporary coma, so the IS really moderates how often they use her for it. To activate, she just needs to be in the same room, and she must show them the bunny. If the bunny was ever to be stolen, it would be disastrous for both Hana and the thief. Hana will still be punished for being apart from it by falling ill, but the thief will also be plagued with horrendous nightmares that will not cease until they return the stuffed bunny. Hana will never get better if it is never returned, and may even fall into a coma that will not cease until it is found and returned to her. If it is destroyed, the contract will be ended and Hana will simply die. It is, without really saying, very important for Hana to know exactly where it is at all times. The IS attempted to remove it from her possession once despite what she told them, but they quickly learned that it was a bad idea. |
