"Perhaps," Jean replied thoughtfully. "I do agree that the generation gap always affects the views of people. It must have been very different to have grown up with both an Asian and a Caucasian parent. I could say that I was primarily raised by my grandmother but that would be incorrect. My family was considered the main family so we had relatives coming from all over Asia. Some would stay for only a couple hours and I've had some stay for a couple months at a time. Those that stayed longer became my babysitters and I ended up being raised by them even if only for a short while." Remembering his childhood made Jean grimace a bit. They were poor to begin with but family is family. And family values are important in Asian society. His parents would never deny a guest and used whatever they could to show off what little they had or gained during those years - even if it meant Jean would go hungry later. His childhood had been chaotic to say the least. At least now he can say with finality that his life and future are stable.
Jean dully noted that Quentin said nothing about his rejection to see him in Disneyland. He supposed that the pink haired man was just being polite then. Well, he had some customers that were extremely talkative but most did not invite him out until they had become regulars. He supposed that they weren't really that close to each other yet.
That's not to say that they weren't getting more comfortable with each other. The relaxed body language exhibited by Quentin did not go unnoticed to Jean. It would seem that he had earned another customer. Not only that but Quentin had given him the contact information to several advertising agents. If this went well, Jean would be hard pressed to lose someone like him.
"You're not disturbing me but..." Jean glanced at the clock on the front register. "It seems that it's nearing closing time. I'd hate to kick you out but I have preparations that I need to do for tomorrow. I do hope you enjoy the pastries and that you come again." After saying good bye to Quentin and finally closing up the shop, Jean went to bed no earlier than usual. He really needed to hire someone to help.
