He didn't know what he'd been expecting. Something more. Something more solid and understanding and something that meant it was okay to worry. Instead he got almost nothing--a vague mention of worry, of the fact that Kun Shui was happy he was okay. He gave him a weak, forced little smile.
"Thank you." He responded, afraid to add anything else in case it would be misconstrued. "Goodnight." He would try and sleep, his book forgotten. He doubted he'd be able to get back into it. His mind would inevitably wander back to what had happened. He would lie there as he tried to sleep, wondering what he could have done better, how he could have saved himself the pain. The obvious solution wasn't a real one--he'd have always considered it. There was no point in trying to deny it. At the very least he hadn't. At least there was that.
