(Kris didn't think it was particularly cute; internally freaking out because you think you messed up your very first meeting with someone you consider a good friend isn't cute at all, and she'd totally punch Neil if she knew he thought it was adorable- no, really, she totally would-)
Her face was no longer flushed as she shot a small smile at him. Yes, she fucked up, but she was putting that behind her! There was no use sulking over it- there was way too much sushi here to be depressed over ruining a friendship forever. "I'm sure if you asked really, really nicely, they might... just consider it." She hadn't the slightest clue how things worked at Google, but it was probably a given that it was hard to get days off, especially for a brand new employee like Neil.
She was busy chewing on another roll of sushi when Neil mentioned the two of them going together. Kris blinked just once in surprise; while she had been secretly hoping they could go, she hadn't been sure how to ask him. And after that embarrassing, stupid debacle, she had resigned herself to never hanging out with him ever again. So- so she hadn't messed up beyond recognition? He actually wanted to do this again? A-And at DisneyLand, at that? It wasn't exactly cheap to visit the park, so if he really wanted to go with her... she swallowed her mouthful of food before replying, a little too quickly, "I'd love to go with you!"
All thoughts of the previous scene were forgotten in light of this new revelation. They were going to DisneyLand and it was going to be so much fun- expensive as hell, sure, but so much fun! Kris couldn't help but laugh slightly at his comment on the crowds. "It's Disney, it's going to be crowded no matter what." She replied, talking fast in her excitement, "It's just a matter of it being slightly less crowded than usual."
Their waitress returned to place their salty water on the table, and the small wafting up from her bowl instantly renewed Kris's hunger. Neil had lied to her, this was way better than pasta soaked in salty water. Her stomach let out a low growl and Kris bit her lip; she wasn't about to scorch her mouth trying to eat her udon and risk embarrassing herself all over again. So instead, she contented herself with another sushi roll, but not before cheerily asking Neil, "When do you want to go?"
(Also, on a sidenote: these noodles didn't look like brains at all, which was a bit of a letdown but Kris could live with it.)

He was pretty sure that there was some formal way of filing a one-day break, but he wasn't going to do it. Not so early, at least: he needed to make a good impression if he was going to have any hope of a way out. It was a bit of a long shot, but Neil knew that he had the chops to impress the people around him. He'd heard that Google occasionally asked interns to stay on without completing college, and he would have been more than happy to do so-- in fact, it was a large part of the reason that he'd agreed to take this job in the first place.
"Yeah, we're probably going to have to do a weekend," Neil added. "I could ask for a break, but I don't want to do it so early. Make a good impression and all, you know? And I'm sure you don't want to wait too long before going to Disneyland." Once again money was definitely not an issue for Neil. He could probably pay for Kris as well, the way things were going. He had to say that he definitely appreciated the ability to spend to his heart's delight-- he wasn't normally someone who blew a lot of money on material goods, but the chance to make someone he cared for happy would be more than worth it.
"Next weekend," Neil found himself saying. He grinned as he began on his noodles. They were definitely really good. "We should go next weekend. It'll be fun."
And for a moment, he couldn't help but reflect on how things had changed, how they were so different now. A few weeks ago he had been miserable, stuck in the middle of nowhere. But here he was, in a new place, with a great friend, ready for the best next chance that he could grab. This was going to be an adventure, and he knew it for a fact.
