Event Unlocked, first come, first serve basis. One spot is currently reserved for PRINCE - with Allison Chen. For everyone else, you must post in character to this thread, and by the end of your post be sure to have selected only one of the 4 numbers available below (this also means that only a maximum of 4 characters(counting Prince) will be able to participate). This event is also open to Civilians/Claimed/Identified/or Awakened characters. Once you’ve selected one of the numbers, you will receive a PM with information regarding the tasks you are meant to complete during the event. Please remember to keep in character at all times, if the task is something that you can not complete it is not the end of the wrold, the task are meant to add a goal and a flare of fun for everyone. Please remember to not share your task with the other members of the event, due to the fact that some numbers may hinder the goal of another number. The main goal of this event is to survive; characters will be in full control of what happens within the event. Every action will weigh on how others may react, pathways that may open and the actions of Fate. The date is May 20th, the weather has not been the best, raining on an off and causing the Zoo to be more empty then normal. The time of day would be around 1:20pm on a Sunday. Just a normal day at the Zoo, the weather has not been the greatest but since the rain has been coming and going the times it is not raining are good for seeing the animals that are available. The lines are much shorter, even for being a Sunday the Zoo can feel rather empty in some places. The characters in this event would have somehow been pulled into a tour of the park, walked around and shown many pathways and animals, the tour group have made it very far into the Zoo and are now standing in front of the viewing around of the Rhinoceros. (top right of the map.) Here is where the Characters will find themselves (of course you can mention how they got to following the tour or even why they are at the Zoo to begin with. Remember, if your character has any items on them, please mention these items in your first post.) Please pick a number below1, 2, 3, or 4

It wasn’t the best day for a trip to the zoo but when faced with the prospect of seeing the adorable new addition to the tiger family, Allison found that the weather wasn’t going to deter her. Nope. Besides, the short queues were a bonus and she got in within ten minutes as opposed to the usual thirty. However, she wasn’t alone.
Callum had invited himself (sort of) after an innocuous text conversation. She had been asked about her plans for the day and she had told him about the zoo and the baby tiger. “omg. tigers. yes.” had been the reply and so an hour and a half later, they met outside the establishment and got tickets. She had thought that she would have been able to just explore the zoo in her own time but they got dragged into a tour group. They had been walking together at a nice pace before they were suddenly surrounded by a tour and the guide had announced that they were going to get to actually feed the tiger since they were trying to get it used to humans. So now she was looking at pink flamingos.
How that happened, Allison decided to just not think too hard on it.
But it wasn’t all too bad, she was learning new things about the various animals and the paths that they were taking probably wouldn’t have been covered if she had went off by herself. Digging into her bag, she took out two bottles of mineral water and held out one to the blonde. He had not brought anything with him except for himself. Today's fashion was a bright red shirt with a yellow lighting bolt in the middle of his chest. It looked like he had a good collection of superhero shirts. Somehow she found that kind of attractive too. Yet again, another thing she didn't quite want to think too much about. Today was honestly turning out to be an odd enough day.
“Want some?”
He took it, flashing a dashing smile (what the hell) of thanks and took a generous gulp after twisting the cap open. She stared a little but managed to look away at some laughing chimpanzees (she wouldn't be surprised if they were laughing at her) before he caught her. Thank god she still had a modicum of her wits left with her as she asked the next question.
"So how do you rate this tour, as a seasoned master? Jedi level or still a Padawan?"
Note: I would like number 3 please.

Callum had a confession: he actually knew jack fuck nothing about tigers. Okay, they were cute. They were kind of vicious. Feisty, almost, if you could say that about an animal. Almost extinct, which was kind of pathetic for an animal that considered itself to be a predator. Kind of defeated the purpose, if you asked him, but then again, he was one to talk. Cal wasn't exactly one for common sense, for one. And his lack of common sense had been exactly why he'd somehow decided to go to the zoo to look at some baby tigers along with Allison. He had a million and one other things to do, and yet here he was with a girl he'd only met a few times, jumping at the opportunity to hang out with her even though they barely knew one another. Okay, this shouldn't have been that unusual. Cal was a friendly guy, and he did act like this around people who were virtual strangers. It was how he deluded people into thinking that they knew him, that they were his best friends: he was a walking, living lie and he knew it. So why was it that he was thinking about this situation so much? Why was he over-analyzing his every action? It made little to no sense: maybe he was just losing his touch. "I don't get it. Why would they allow humans to feed tigers? I mean, aren't they scared that the tiger will suddenly lunge at you? And then it'll kill you. And you'll be dead." Not that he was complaining, of course. The baby tiger was going to be kind of cute, even if he really didn't know much about the species as a whole. Cal loved animals-- it was why he'd gone through so much trouble to be able to keep Puggerpillar around. Before his question was answered, though, Allison pulled a bottle of water out, handing it to him. Cal grinned. "Hey thanks." What was she, some sort of treasure trove, an infinite resource of edibles? He could definitely live with that. Cal gulped down the water, handing the bottle back to her. "Here, you should have some too, before I finish it all." Even though it was raining and the weather wasn't too sunny, Cal was the type of person who would be drinking gallons of water anyway. Or soda, or Red Bull, but in lieu of that stuff water would have to do. Au naturale, that was what it was. She asked him how he was rating this tour, and he scrunched up his brow, stroking an imaginary beard. "I am uncertain, good miss." He caught sight of a bunch of laughing chimpanzees, taking their cackling into account as he strung his answer together. "While the weather's a bit of a downer, the company certainly makes up for that. We're surrounded by friends, for one," he said as his eyes fell on the laughing chimpanzees. "My aunt Kiki's saying hi to the two of us." Actually, his only complaint so far was that he couldn't get The Bad Touch out of his head. Every single time Allison had been out of earshot, he hadn't been able to resist humming it under his breath. He wondered how many of these animals were doing it like they did on the Discovery Channel.
Note: I gave Prince permission to control Cal a little in her post! Also, GIVE ME NUMBAH 1.

Sebastian tugged the hood of a white jacket down and over his head again, the pitter patter of drizzling rain and the crunch of gravel paths filling his ears as much as any idle conversation did. As he slid that same hand back into his blue jean pocket, the white rings around his fingers glistening, he picked out the whisper of his palm against the denim, the gentle hum of his own breathing, and of course, the snap and crackle of one of his tour mates as they wrestled a chip bag open and the food exploded all over the gravel. He snorted. The pavement, particularly the service roads he occasionally glimpsed around the perimeter, steamed as the rain dried; it seemed like one of the hotter days in L.A., but the clouds brought with them what Sebastian thought to be more than just fresh, meek showers to cool the rising heat. Glancing up, he thought some of them pooled together in rolling bruises of color; they might very well see worse than showers today, but he could not be sure. The fickleness of the weather certainly explained why so few people were here.
Sebastian tilted his head slightly. It was a pity.
He brought himself to the zoo because of the liveliness, not to gawk at the animals, unlike the vast majority of the masses. They were beautiful creatures, yes—but it was the cacophony that drew him in, not their visual appeal. The croons, the squawks, growls, grunts, trumpets, bellows. Sebastian noted the finite tunes and raucous noise of everyday life much more effortlessly—and hungrily—than most others did. Places like this were smorgasbords for the ears, and his were particularly sensitive. Perhaps because he was losing his ability to hear anything at all, and therefore found what little he could still catch, precious. He pulled his hands out of his pockets and leaned down against a railing that separated him and the tour group from the rhinoceros exhibit. Steepling his fingers and weaving them together, he brushed his thumb delicately up to the base of a ring resting against his other index finger, and down again to the curve of his palm. He blinked tiredly, watching the animal lope around its enclosure; he could have read the nearby plaque that detailed what a dangerous animal it was, but he didn’t care.
This break from work hadn’t exactly turned out to be what he wanted—or needed—it to be.
Time Stamp: May 20th. Notes: Just gonna go ahead and toss a character in here. Number Four.

Her parents don't tell her much. It was either that or she just had horrible listening skills but no, they should have mentioned at least a couple more times. Somehow, she missed the fact that her cousins were visiting from Mississippi. She didn't even know she had cousins yet alone in the unspellable state Mississippi. When did her Dad get a brother anyway and why did he have to have kids? Allison is cool with meeting family especially during the holidays. They always brought her gifts but that's just her grandparents. Sweet old people, they are. They were like the Herschels' just not as cool but still. But her cousins…they were terrible! Her aunt kept shoving this smelly baby in her face, her uncle kept on talking about his achievements and she was totally sure that her Dad and him were having some kind of 'who's dick is longer' contest. It was like they were four and 'Anything you can do, I can do better' is their goddamn theme song. She could deal with them, she could run from them, that wasn't hard but their kids. Devil spawn! That's what they were. Anything they touched broke, they nearly set the house on fire and she doesn't even know how they made a flame. She fell asleep and they painted her face, and…….they wiped their boogers on her computer screen. The amount of wipes and sanitizer she used was completely reasonable but not to her Mom. But like any great family, they had to do bonding activities like going to the Zoo. As soon as she got there she hid in one of the tour groups and was gone. She wasn't going anywhere with those guys especially in public. Her friends could see her or worse, a cute guy could see her. The mere thought sent shivers down her spine. She was lucky she had her umbrella with her; good way to hide from her parents and even better way to protect herself from the rain. The group went further and further in the Zoo and she seemed to keep seeing her family around. After awhile they seemed to be gone but she was already a long walk away from the entrance. With a sigh she walked up towards the railing and planted herself next to this huge guy. If she falls in at least she had something to grab. Woah, this was fun.
guess that leaves me with 2

Everyone had finally gathered at the rhino exhibit to see the show, but... something just wasn't quite right. Something was stirring...but what was it? The animal tamer lashed his whip out, forcing a nearby rhino into a bowing position. His voice cackled, echoing through the crowd. It sounded more...menacing than a normal laugh. It almost seemed like a sadistic laugh, one that carried further than it should have. Overhead, rain started fall lightly, starting to create a very small shower. People in the crowds began opening their umbrellas, forcing those in the back to take a different position to see the show. Another lash of his whip causing a second rhino to bow before him, but this one seemed a little different. If one looked closely, one would notice that the rhino's skin seemed to ripple. It was subtle, and most of the crowd hadn't paid any mind to this. There was, however, a few that noticed the change and began murmuring about it. And then it was showtime. The man unleashed a thick, guttural noise and punished the animals once more, but this time the changes in both became apparent. The rhino on the left glowed with a soft white light for a moment. Both horns grew another 6 inches, coming to a rather vicious-looking point. The scales grew darker and much more prominent, protruding and nearly skewering the trainer beside him. And then it started to grow. The once 4'8 rhino now towered upward to about 6' tall. Small, bone-like spines grew on its back, barely peeking from it's scales. Its eyes turned upon the audience before stampeding through the fenced area, making its way into the crowd. While the first rhino distracted the crowd, the other was able to able to change as well. This rhino, unlike the first, grew to stand on just two of its legs, now walking like a human. Its belly sunk inward, turning to muscle and toning the rhino's chest and arms. Just as the other, this rhino's horns grew and sharpened their points. This beast darted toward the 150lb feeding trough and launched it into the crowd. Neither rhino was very lucky in their attempts as the crowd had decided to part in just enough time. Now, the bipedal rhino climbed up toward the walk and stood beside its brother. The bipedal rhinoceros locked eyes with a young blonde teenage boy, feeling the urge to rip him apart with his bare hands. His brother also eyed the teen, but the older rhino shook his head - that would be his target. For now, at least. The younger rhino acknowledged the request and turned to face the young girl with the teen, hoping to make a meal of her. Both rhinos bolted toward their targets in unison, hoping to satisfy their bloodlust with some fresh teenage meat. Please be sure to check your inbox as numbers have been sent. |

ATARAXIA (n.)calmness or peace of mind. "Baby tigers are actually harmless at this point of their lives. They are just bigger than your average house cat and subsist on a diet of milk. They're really cute to boot. And keep the bottle, I've got another." She really had to smile at the introduction of his Aunt Kiki, the chimpanzee now hooting even louder. Perhaps it wasn't that bad of an idea to have him accompany her once in a while, seemed like he could be counted on to entertain. And he did seem interested in the animals; he was a pet owner after all.
"I can see the familial resemblance."
His response got another smile out of her and soon, they were nearing the rhinos. The gentle creatures were usually a treat to watch as they grazed. But there was an odd energy in the air and there was a man in the cage. A drizzle began but it was the last thing on her mind. Why was there someone cracking whip? It was a zoo for God's sake! And not a damned circus. Fury and suspicion made an interesting combination, and the deranged laughter from the man was not helping at all. This was bordering animal cruelty. She turned to Callum, an anger churning in her dark eyes and whispered harshly.
"What the hell is an animal tamer doing in a zoo?"
But before he could answer her, there was an abrupt movement and she started. What on earth was going on? The animals seemed to be mutating before her very eyes. Allison wouldn't have believed her eyes if she hadn't had a check up just three days ago. She watched with growing horror as horns lengthened and sharpened, and one of the rhinos took on a bipedal form.
"Cal-" she reached out to grip a thin wrist, her eyes trained on the advancing monsters. The first rabid animal had rushed at the people and the crowd erupted in a frenzied panic. She sucked in a sharp breath because she saw some unspoken form of communication between the two creatures. Now they were intelligent? The day was turning out to be a really extraordinary event and it's not one good bit about that kind of special. The rhinos turned their black eyes onto them. Allison widened her eyes in horror. Was that hunger she saw? She had never felt a stronger urge to flee.
"Run."
She didn't wait for him and tugged, praying that his trim physique wasn't just for show. Adrenaline pumped though her body and she was extremely glad for her need to exercise in order to manage her stress. Any possibility of a panic attack was set aside for the fact that her body was busier with running away from rhinos. She chanced a look back and had to stifle a curse when she saw the monsters making a beeline for them. They had to come up with a Plan B if out running the monsters wasn't going to work. She looked around for exits and paths, checking the routes and glancing at signs. Then a thought suddenly struck her in the midst of screams and she turned to the boy running alongside her. She reached out once more and tugged on an arm. When he turned to face her, she was struck with a totally inappropriate image of the Ridiculously Photogenic Guy meme. Trust him to still look good while trying to escape bloodthirsty rhinos. Pushing that away quickly, she tried her best at communicating her idea without fumbling over with fear.
"We have to find the zookeepers' office." She probably looked as frightened as she felt and she rushed out her next sentence. "They must have tranquilliser guns here if there're carnivores here—"
She wasn't going to use the guns; she was banking on the zookeepers firing. | words 638 tags #zoo #event notes gorgeous blondes, baby tigers and monstrous rhinos |

He'd made her smile. She liked his spark. Cal couldn't help but feel a little spring in his step as the two of them moved forward, and a fluttering feeling in his stomach. Needless to say, her talk of baby tigers had gone completely over his head-- or well, they had registered, he had just been rendered slightly incoherent at the fact that she'd appreciated his joke. All Cal could do was nod a little as they continued marching on, pretending that his sudden silence was just another part of the joke. He even stroked his chin, pretending that he was trying to mock an old wise man, when in reality he was trying to come up with the next punch line.
But he was interrupted by the sound of the cracking of a whip.
Cal lashed around to see a man with a whip. Yes, a whip. "The fuck--" he began, before being cut off by Allison, who had vocalized the very question that he'd been planning to ask. "That's a really good question," he snarled, cringing with disgust. The zookeeper was talking about the digestive properties of rhinos now, but he wasn't paying attention. No, there was something terribly ominous about the entire situation. He'd seen plenty of animal shows in zoos. Dancing dolphins, prancing poodles, waddling whales. Even if the waddling whale was one that he saw at home, anyway. And none of them involved whips of any kind. No, there was supposed to be the perception that zoos were humane, and this sure as hell didn't look like it was going to end well. Cal was about to say something more when one of the rhinos turned its gaze onto him, and he gulped.
He really needed to get the fuck out of here. He, Allison, but also everyone.
"Dude," he muttered, tapping the blonde girl to his left on the shoulder. "There's something wrong about this situation. Excuse me," he muttered, but he was drowned out by the tour guide once again. The stern-looking man in front of them was the next person he addressed, "I have-- I have a bad feeling about this," he managed to stutter out. He wasn't even looking at the rhinos any more: luckily Allison had been watching out. "Excuse me," he said to the person to his left, "Just follow me, okay? I don't think this is going to end well. I mean, I know that the tour is going one way, but just-- follow me," he muttered. And that was when he heard the thundering of hooves, and Allison's order.
Run.
And lo and behold, the rhinos had bolted towards the group.
Grey eyes widened with panic, but he tried to keep his cool. You can do this. You can do this, he thought to himself, taking a deep breath. "Come with me!" Cal yelled at nobody in particular. With that, Cal sped off, darting away at full speed from the rhinos. Thank goodness he was reasonably fit-- he was going to be okay. He sure as hell had better be okay.
Where the fuck is animal control? Cal gritted his teeth. Okay, they would probably come soon. They had better arrive on the scene, stat. And as Allison paused, glancing at the signs, Cal shook his head. He grabbed hold of her, before running off, checking behind to make sure that people were running back too. "The zookeepers aren't going to do shit," he muttered. "We wouldn't be able to get into their office without a key anyway. We have to run," Cal muttered, glancing towards his phone where he had the map pulled up on it. There had to be a way to leave--
And for some reason, the tiger exhibit was glowing with the force of a lightsaber.
"Tigers," he said. "Allison. The tigers. I love tigers, remember?" He tugged at her, glancing behind to make sure that the rhinos weren't too near. Were people following? If they were, Cal would yell,
"Follow me, I think I know an exit!"

Sebastian flicked his gaze over his shoulder, noticing the young woman slip in beside him. He considered saying something to fill in the silence and keep the sound of the drizzling rain out of his ears. It would be the polite thing to do, to strike up a conversation or acknowledge at least, that she was there—but before he could, a sharp crack filled the void and he glanced up instead. Seconds later, his shoulders squared at what he saw; he pulled his hands apart and straightened, his grip tightening over the railing, knuckles white. His eyes narrowed. Since when did this zoo have an animal tamer? Sebastian frowned. A steely quality entered his eye and tension snapped through his spine. His eyes narrowed. The animals were—changing?
“Was zum Teufel?” he whispered. Monsters? Here? Murmurs wavered through the crowd as other people noticed it too; he glanced over his shoulder once before snapping his gaze back to the front of the exhibit. But by then it was too late. The last few changes were done; the first rhino exploded through the exhibit walls and the people around him burst into action, shrieking, dropping to the ground, or running. They pushed and shoved and jostled each other in an attempt to escape the animal’s rampage, but Sebastian shoved them back, grunting each time he had to throw someone else out of his way to keep his place close to the railing without being trampled or lost in the crowd. It went without saying that anybody standing behind or close to him did not have to worry about being buffeted by the pooling mass of terrified spectators either, because he kept them at bay easily enough. However, his gaze darted back to the exhibit, balling one hand into a fist and huffing angrily; the animal tamer was still standing, untouched.
He looked pleased—maniacal even.
Sebastian grunted as a passing man bumped him; he flung his arm back to sweep them aside, eyes wild with frustration. The next time he looked back at the exhibit however, a 150lb food trough was hurdling through the air toward him and anyone standing nearby; swearing under his breath, he reached out and grabbed the nearest person —the blonde standing next to him--and wrenched her out of the way, ducking down and pulling her with him. His head went down as the trough crashed to the ground with a violent crunch where they’d just been standing; Sebastian’s arms and hands had hovered protectively over the young woman as he knelt there with her, a white, palpable aura burning protectively around his fingers and palms.
The white, bone rings around his fingers glowed too. He willed the power away and the protective shield vanished, but he had eyes only for the man still standing in that exhibit, long after the second rhino had also escaped the confines of his former, glorified cage. Sebastian huffed and leaned down.
“Come with me if you must,” he whispered. His jaw grew tense, but he pulled her to her feet and released her. Sebastian could not leave the girl on her own—the others would have to somehow survive without him, he could not save everyone—but she was lucky enough to have been standing nearby when he grabbed her. And he could not in good conscious, command her to stay there when there were monsters on the loose. But he had things to do. Places to be. People to interrogate.
Like that damned animal tamer. Sebastian vaulted the railing and ran for opening in the exhibit.

She cocked her head slightly to the side staring at the show in front of her. The sound of the whip cracking in the air made her flinch back in shock. This seemed more extreme than it needed to be. Allison let go of the railing and instead hugged her umbrella to her chest staring the rhinos. What the hell was going on? The tamer's laughter seemed like something straight out of Saw. This didn't feel right. A drop of water falling on her cheek surprised her and a second crack of that stupid whip nearly made her jump out of her own skin. That's when she noticed the slight change in the rhinoceroses. Sad thing was, the change didn't stay slight for very long. Allison's jaw dropped as she watched the seemingly gentle beasts turn into monsters with the third swing of the trainer's whip. This wasn't happening. This couldn't be happening. She was home, she was sleeping, she wasn't in the Zoo. She wasn't going to die! Allison decided against watching the chaos and squeezed her eyes shut. The tip of her umbrella was buried into her cheek as she rocked herself. Even though she could hear the sound of feet running around her, not a single pair got too close. She opened her eyes enough just to see bodies flying, not literally of course, away from her. Allison peeked up at the stranger defending them from rampaging zoo-goers. He was going to save her. The relief that washed over her was indescribable. Her moment didn't last long as she realized that this man, no matter how strong, couldn't fight giant horn-growing beasts bent of eating her delicious flesh. Why did she have to be so tasty? Why couldn't she tasted like Brussels sprouts or cranberries? This was how she was going to die. Would it eat her head first or would she feel every sickening crunch as it ground her bones between its back teeth? She didn't even get time to say goodbye to her parents. Frozen behind some huge guy who whacked people around like he spent everyday doing it, with a giant object hurtling in her direction ready to crus- Giant object? Allison whipped around and watched as it came careening towards her. Allison was about to let out a scream before she was yanked away. She hit the ground with a gasp and it didn't take long for instincts to kick in. She curled up into the ball as the container slammed into where they were standing only moments before. Terrified, she let out a whimper and hid herself under the much larger man. Everything was going to be okay. Her breathing slowed. And she just started to sob but he didn't leave her very much time to cry. The words he whispered barely registered in her mind but all she knew was that her only defense was leaving. Allison let herself be pulled to her feet and watched as he walked away. She could see out of the corner of her eye two people being chased by those, those things. They were going to die, and she couldn't do anything to save them. How could she? It was either take her chances with the man who seemed to have a handle on things or take her chances trying to save two people. Distant screams told her how the latter would work out. The decision was hard, but her feet had made it before her brain had. Before she could make sense of it, she was already throwing herself after him. Of course, she failed to vault properly and ended up falling flat on her face. She groaned and rubbed her head. When her childhood unicorn Terresa showed up, she knew she had done some damage with that fall. Waving away the foggy image of the horned horse, Allison crawled to her feet and scrambled after the man running away. She could deal with horses she knew weren't there later, for now she had to make sure she didn't die. Her short strides made it even harder to catch up, the giant umbrella in her arms didn't help. "Please don't leave me." she cried out after him. She redoubled her efforts to catch refusing to be left behind. He was her only hope. Allison managed to get up behind him and keep up. "Thanks for not letting me die." she said, instantly regretting the awkward phrasing. She just wasn't going to speak, she was just going to run. It was better for all.

The muscled man, standing broad-shouldered and donning an eerie grin, stood amongst the masses of chaos. Most people were doing what they should - running away from him, but there was always that one idiot who tried to be a hero. Well, the trainer didn't expect it so suddenly, but he knew that someone would be dumb enough to try their luck. His facial expressions were amplified as he saw the man approaching, wondering how he could torture him while keeping him alive. Oh and that girl...she didn't seem to be very strong. Or brave. Or anything near heroic, for that matter. So why was she trailing behind the man... well, it honestly didn't matter because they would both be dead in their own time. For now, the trainer smiled menacingly and melted away into the air, leaving nothing but tendrils of black smoke dissipating into the surrounding air. A voice filled the air that only the man and his frightened friend could hear. Not yet. Your time to die has been postponed... The bipedal rhino swept a young lady off her feet and trampled her, crushing her beneath his massive feet. Instantly, his body felt a surge of energy. His muscles rose a bit taller and he grew a good two inches. His hide become thicker and turned a shade darker. The horn on his face grew just slightly, but it was enough to notice if one had been paying close attention. His brother trailed behind him, now having a bit more difficulty catching up. The two mammals darted after the boy and his friend, slowly catching up and making much needed ground. Eventually the bipedal rhino stopped, willing to move no further. However, his brother carried on, despite warning glances from his brother. Eventually the four-legged creature caught up with his prey, readying himself for a charge that would rip the teenager to shreds. For some reason, though, the rhino froze in its tracks, unable to move. It turned back and stood side by side with his brother, watching the two teenagers and eagarly waiting for the main event. A loud crack, a very familiar sound, was heard by both teenagers but by no one else. What followed was a scratchy, barely audible voice, but it was loud enough for both to hear it clearly. If you wish to live, turn back. |

ATARAXIA (n.)calmness or peace of mind. They weren't letting up the chase, the monsters' heavy hooves beating a ominous tattoo on the concrete ground as they thundered after them. Allison could feel her own pulse beating wildly in her chest and hear it against her jugular. The two creatures were just gaining more ground the further they ran, it didn't matter if she was an avid runner, they didn't look like they had a chance running away from the animals straight out of a horror film. Too curious for her own good, Allison turned around to see the four-legged rhino just a step behind Cal and a scream bubbled in her throat. But just before the monster could bury its horn into him, it froze and trotted back to join its bipedal brother.
What the fuck was going on?
Allison sucked in a breath of much needed air as a hoarse rasp reached her ears after a too familiar crack, encouraging her to turn back if she wished to live. Turn back towards the monsters? What the hell?
A million questions were on the tip of her tongue but she chanced a look at Cal, who almost died. Her throat seized and she gulped, clenching her fists as she forced herself to remain as calm as she could possibly be when facing two mutated rhinoceroses bent on feasting on their flesh.
"Did you hear that?"
She was half way believing that she was losing her marbles. If not, how else was she going to be able to explain all of this? Dark eyes churned with anxiety as she faced the blond male.
"The voice telling us to turn back?
There must be a reason why this was happening and Allison could feel the itch of curiosity building. It was a page out of a fantasy book and how could anyone with half an imagination let this go without investigation? She could only hope that if she did start digging, she would be alive at the end of it. And as she waited for Cal to respond to her, the knowledge that the other student came that clost to being gored by the rhinoceros sent a stab of fear through her and she dug her nails into her palms.
Why was she so affected?
Allison had a feeing that she didn't really want to know at the moment so she made herself focus on the current dilemma of getting away in one piece and hopefully blood free. Then at the corner of her eyes, there was something soft and white that shimmered in the distance. It was a unicorn. Allison had to blink twice and then she was hit with the feeling of rightness, urging her to follow what she had just saw. But that would require them to indeed head back towards where they had just ran from. She paused and then decided.
"I'm sorry but you're going to have to trust me."
She reached out and grabbed his hand, lacing her fingers around his clammy ones and tugged, adrenaline pumping through her body and pushing her feet off the ground as she began to run after the galloping unicorn.
What a day.

If Cal could have turned back and seen that the rhino's horn had grown, he might have made some quip about it getting a little horny. Then again, at this stage, he might have been far too terrified to even make any sort of statement. He could hear the thundering sound of angry hooves, and he let out a rather unmanly yowl. This was no time to be caring for his image. There was no time to be thinking about the ten million and one things that normally sped through his mind. At this stage, all that Callum was thinking of was survival. Despite everything he might have said or thought about himself, he was a fighter. He wasn't the kind of person who would give up. And as the rhinos picked up their pace, he did too, determined to get himself out of here. There was a way out. Cal didn't even notice when the first rhinoceros stopped running after them; he needed to focus. He had a plan.
Even if he wasn't quite sure whether he and Allison would succeed.
What had he done to deserve monsters chasing after him like this, though? Most of all, why were they targeting him of all people? It was as though some person who held his destiny in his hands had decided to make a gamble with some other being, some sort of trade off involving fictional money or whatever fate-controlling beings used when they were bored. But when the second beast's footsteps died down, walking away and turning to stand with his brother, the blonde finally spun around. For some reason, they seemed to be safe. It was then when the voice in the distance spoke, and he whirled around to face it.
If you wish to live, turn back.
"Holy hell."
Okay, now this was some real horror movie shit right there. Cal could practically see it now. The latest scary flick in the cinemas. Action. Horror. Romance-- The Pandamonium was going to be the next shoo-in for Worst Movie of the Year. For one, the voice in the distance made no sense at all. It was asking them to turn back if they wanted to live. Anyone who was remotely genre savvy would know to listen to the weird voices, because bad shit happened when you didn't. Like, you know, people dying, shit getting blown up. However, the voice made absolutely zero sense.
They wouldn't have been able to turn back. It would have been physically impossible.
For one, there were two angry rhinos in the way.
"W- where the hell?" Cal exclaimed in response to Allison's statement. "Look, if you're trying to give us some sort of way out, you aren't helping, whoever you are!" Whatever supernatural force this was, they weren't doing a very good job of being ominous and mysterious. They were in the middle of running for their lives here, and it would have been nice to get some hints that made actual sense. Maybe some sort of path, some sort of road out, anything. He glanced back down at his trusty iPhone, where the map was still glowing. Man, if only Siri could get them out of this mess.
Please, Steve Jobs, if you're actually out there and manage to send some sort of sign, I promise to stop bullying Siri with poop jokes for the rest of my life. I will seriously consider buying a Macbook, and will stop telling people that the iPad is a confused, useless device that doesn't know whether it's a laptop or a phone--
It was then when the area around the tiger exhibit on his phone continued to glow. But not just the tigers now. It seemed to be directing him further south. He was about to say something, but Allison had grabbed hold of his hand, dragging him back towards the two monsters. "Whoa, hold up!" he exclaimed. Wasn't she supposed to be the queen of common sense here? "Dude, you're going back closer to the two animals that just tried to attack us? We can't even turn back like the voice said, the rhinos are going to kill us. Until we're dead." It didn't even register that his statement had made no sense whatsoever. He tugged her backwards, lightly so she wouldn't fall, but strong enough so that she would hopefully come in his direction.
"Think about it. Look," he said, holding up his map, "If we go this way, down beyond the turtles, and then to the World of Birds show, we can make a break for it through the fence. We're both good climbers. We can do it."
With that, he began speeding off, dashing away in that direction, hoping, praying that Allison would follow.

Please don’t leave me.
Sebastian froze. He was still for only for a breath of a second, but it was enough for her to catch up and fall in line behind him. She probably wouldn’t have noticed how his gaze flicked in her direction to be sure she was safe—sometimes he was too soft for his own good—before he released a breath and focused on his main adversary again: the tamer. “You must stay here this time,” he growled to Allison, a little more gruffly than necessary, his brow low, a sudden, sobering harshness in his expression. He met her eyes again, enforcing that command. His thick accent only helped to fortify those words, make them sound unyielding. “And if you are to come with me, you will listen,” he said, cornering her purposely against the fence line. Sebastian could use intimidation tactics to get what he wanted easier than most, and he employed them now, but only because it was the best way to keep her safe. Civilians were not meant to accompany Hunters in the field; they were inexperienced and therefore liabilities, but he could not, for the life of him, overlook them as most others did. It was a weakness—Sebastian knew it, Salvatore had known it—and it was why he had problems hearing things, because he had already sacrificed himself for others before.
And in spite of all of that—he could not abandon her.
Sebastian pressed her further into the fence. Allison would have her own story, as sure as his own. What he was doing might seem cruel and perhaps even harsh—she was stressed and clearly afraid; he had no idea she had family still in this zoo even—but if he had to bully her to keep her from getting killed, he would do so. “Understand?” It was less of question really—more of another command. “Now I must take care of this man—do not fight him unless you have to.” He turned to leave, but paused for a second to glance back at her, his expression softening, but only a little. “This is the best way to keep you out of harm’s way,” he muttered as a sort of apology, before dashing forward again.
The rings embracing his fingers flared and suddenly exploded with strings of white, searing light that burned almost like fire; they licked his fingertips and coated his hands, solidifying into a hard, impenetrable aura that gloved his palms in seconds. He took note of the smug smile on the tamer’s face and drew his right hand back as he closed the distance, balling his fingers into a hard fist. The white aura seared, grew brighter. Sebastian was a power player, and any punch he landed had the potential to be extremely devastating, but when there was no distance left between him and his target and he thrust his arm forward, he staggered. His eyes narrowed. A sense of weightlessness came over him as he pushed through the hollow afterimage, skidding to a halt before he could crash into anything that was actually physically there. The tamer himself, however, was gone.
“Feigling,” Sebastian snarled in German, bristling as he pivoted suddenly on his feet.
It meant “coward.”
Sebastian loathed monsters and beings that played illusion games or teleported all over the place, but he tilted his head, stiffening as a wayward thought pushed on his mind. It might even have been the tamer, taunting him. “You delay at your own risk,” Sebastian snapped back. He had no idea whether or not the man—monster, whatever the hell it was—could hear him, but he had said it anyway. Sebastian suppressed another growl, but looked up and noticed Allison again. Well at least he could find the means to get her out of here and to safety. He straightened and glanced over his shoulder—he could remember their tour guide mentioning a shuttle station at the north east edge of the map. They should be close to it. He was aggravated that he couldn’t deal with the tamer right now, but at the very least, he could help her. “We have to get out—there are vehicles nearby. That way. Quickly.”

Mouth shut. Eyes down. Ears open. As long as she followed those simple rule she might avoid having her body tossed to the lions who, if they're anything like the friendly rhinos, will have a fine time feasting on her entrails. Allison couldn't stop herself from flinching at the thought. Her dead, her family dead, him dead. The thought caused her eyes to creep itself upwards just to check up on the guy three times her size. She wasn't going to be much help but she wasn't afraid to poke out some eyeballs. Her lips pressed into a thin line and she steadied her grip on the heavy umbrella in her hands. Her resolve was quickly shaken by the cutting words sent in her direction. Her once strong shoulders fell as she averted her gaze back to the ground. She wasn't going to be saving anyone today, she thought only numbly nodding her head at his request, wait no, his order. It wasn't that she wanted to jump in with a flaming umbrella and defend the Earth from all evil, but leaving Sebastian to face the tamer alone didn't sit well with her. Splitting up in Scooby-Doo always meant that you'd meet the monster. It wasn't like she was going to voice this of course because not only was it stupid, but she was way too busy cowering in up against a wall. "I-I understand." She stuttered out before promptly biting down on her bottom lip. He was going to run off and save the zoo. Maybe it wasn't as impressive as the world and maybe he was missing a cape but he was still pretty damn cool. Though he could stop trying to murder her with his eyes, that would definitely help. When he turned to leave Allison wanted to say something, anything really but nothing all too awe-inspiring popped to mind. Moments like these are what make her want to be in movie where everything works out even if you mess up. So that left her with nothing to say standing stiffly by a wall defenseless. Now she just wants to cry. As the retreating footsteps slowed Allison looked up to see why Sebastian had stopped. She blinked slowly and mustered a weak smile as he spoke. As he sped off Allison gave a meek wave goodbye, not goodbye forever though, just a goodbye for now. That's positive thinking right there. Allison pressed her back into the oh so familiar wall behind her and watched in wonder as Sebastian began to light up. It looked like something straight out of the Incredibles or something. Was he doing magic? She wanted to get a better view but the memory of her recently given commands made her hesitate. It wouldn't hurt to just get a little closer. If she could see what was happening she'd know when to run. She wasn't sure if she would be running towards the fight or running away from them. But when the tamer poofed and Allison thought Sebastian was going to fall, once again her decision had been made. She pushed off the wall and began to run towards the man. Gosh, she was doing too much running today and too much screeching to a stop especially at creepy bodiless voices that say she was going to die. Actually that last part was pretty new to her. She was going to die. Die? This was like some kind of sick joke. She just wanted to go home. Her chins trembled as she could feel a wave of tears coming on. She tried to inhale but the more she tried, the more she failed. Frozen to the spot, she let out a strangled sob. "I don't want to die." Allison shuffled her way towards Sebastian and crumbled at his feet. She couldn't do this anymore. There was no way she was getting out of here, with or without his help. If some guy had the power to disappear and turn rhinos into….into monsters, who's to say he can't stop her from leaving the zoo. No matter what happens, she'll be a corpse. She didn't want him to die, not for her. Allison tilted her head up, wiping her tears on her jeans as she went, and hiccuped. "Leave me here." Ten years later or today, what difference did it make. She lifted up her arm and flicked her wrist at him trying to flick him away. "Go." she said burying her face back into her knees.

Both rhinos looked at each other, baring fangs and dripping saliva from their massive jaws. They were ready for the tasty teenagers, despite being fully aware that they could be losing their meal at any moment. It all depended on what they did, but standing right where they were was a bad, bad idea. The bipedal rhino let loose with a loud snort, but that was nothing compared to what could be heard in the distance. A distinct roar, coming from the direction the young male wanted to venture, shook up even the rhinos. Both looked at one another for a moment before saying silent prayers. They both backed away, giving the humans even more space between the two. If they didn't decide now, things were about to go south. Quickly. The entity did not recognize the human's odd word, but that made no difference. Humans feared what they did not know, what they could not see, and what made no sense. This human was probably no different. The tamer did appear, but not where the older man was yelling. About three feet behind the man, the tamer called out to he and his younger female friend. "If you wish to live, I regret to say that such wishes are futile." And again, just as before, the tamer vanished without a trace. All that could be heard was a high-pitched cackle coming from the sea eagle exhibit. |

ATARAXIA (n.)calmness or peace of mind. It was all very confusing, as if Fate knew jack shit about what it was doing and people were just screaming bloody murder while running like headless chickens. The rhinoceroses stopped chasing them, choosing to just stand there and wait, as if they were expecting an easy meal. The day was just getting more odd by the second and then the rhinoceroses actually backed away to give them more space and she calculated that they could run towards the direction of the unicorn without being eaten alive.
But just what in the world? She spared Callum a look and whipped her head to the direction he had wanted to run in when a terrifying roar rang out. Okay. So that option had just became out of the question.
"You still want to run towards that direction?" She pinned him down with a look. Time was running out because the monsters weren't going to wait on them forever and she had a feeling that whatever forces had just stopped the rhinos were going to be temporary. They needed to decide now. Frowning, she spared a look towards the direction the unicorn had galloped off in and that gut feeling that she had to follow it was still strong but not overwhelmingly so.
"i swear we can make it past the rhinos, they are not going to be able to get us. We can't run towards your direction." Her frown deepened and her brown eyes darkened with even more worry, who knew that going to see baby tigers at the local zoo would turn out to be so dangerous? Seriously, Life was probably getting a right kick watching people lose their heads at the sight of two thundering rhinoceroses hungry for human flesh. Next time she was sticking to National Geographic documentaries and Youtube videos if she wanted a taste of the wild.
"There's a damn roar we have no idea about, at least we know what this side offers us." Finally a swear word slipped out, hinting at the anxiety she was currently feeling despite looking more angry than anything. "And the roar sounds it comes from an actual carnivore. I don't want us to be separated."
In this situation, it sounded like the worst case scenario for the both of them because she didn't want to have to wonder whether he was alive or not. And when in a fight, no matter how monstrous the opposition was, two people on the same side was better than one. Unless the other person was an actual idiot, more of a hindrance than a help. Then that would be a different story.
Callum was doing alright at the moment, so far so good. Now if only she had a weapon of any kind, she would feel a lot better while trying to get away from these rhinos. They could run obviously, but there was no telling whether the monsters would actually give up unless they got into a car and sped off. Then again, Allison couldn't say for sure because she has never actually encountered such creatures before. | words it's a mystery tags #event notes crazy rhinos and unicorns |

He was running in the right direction. He was certain of it. Cal gritted his teeth as he tried to drag Allison along, something in his gut telling him that they had the right idea. "Don't worry," he hissed, turning back to meet her gaze. "We'll be fine--"
A loud roar, angry and vicious, tearing through the direction of where they were.
The blonde froze. Okay, maybe he wasn't so certain. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea. He cast Allison a sideways glance, and then back to the people that were following them. One or two of them had taken a step back, muttering to each other, unsure whether this was a good idea any more. The boy who'd been trying to lead them to safety no longer seemed so sure that this was safe. She was right. He wasn't so keen in running towards the tigers any more. But how were they supposed to approach the direction of the rhinos, or outrun them? Sure, there was a path by the two of them that they could probably pass through safely, and the rhinos were backing up. So it wasn't as though they were going to turn back and charge at the animals headlong.
But what if the two animals saw that they were going there, and started heading towards them both? Suddenly, he found that he wasn't quite so certain any more. He frowned, trying to ignore the panic and confusion from the people surrounding him, the crowd screaming and yelling to get out, get out! No, he had to focus. Think about what was safe, think about what was right.
"I hate decisions," the blonde muttered. But the voice from earlier on returned to haunt him-- if he wanted to live, turn back. Turn back. Turn back. Turn back! "You're right," Cal said, taking a step closer to Allison, his heart racing at a million miles per hour. If he had been at his senses, he might have noted that it wasn't completely from fear. "Okay guys!" Cal called out, turning back to the people who were following. "We're going to-- we're going to go a different way. All the animals around us are going cray-cray so we don't really want to risk that roar."
With that, Cal started in the direction Allison wanted to head in. He'd given her his trust, and his faith. Now his life was in her hands, and god knew what else she would take from him.
(He had a feeling that if they lived through this, he would be dangerously close to giving her his heart as well.)

And now his attention was torn again. Sebastian ran his hand down his face in frustration, his eyes simmering, having caught the sound of a cackle deeper into the zoo. For once his hearing seemed to be on top of things, but he felt as if he was being purposely baited. Every scrap of experience he had gathered as a Hunter warned him to be careful, but he also knew he couldn’t keep ignoring this forever. His jaw tightened, torn between helping Allison get to one of the vehicles and therefore out of this place, or doing his job. The latter would require he put the young woman following him in direct danger. He could not do everything at once, and to make matters worse, she crumpled at his feet, overwhelmed by stress and fear, crying. He was beginning to wonder if he would ever bother to visit the zoo again, for all the trouble it was worth. If there had been other Society members available to back him up it would be another matter entirely. But people like Allison weren’t accustomed to this. They usually became victims in some form or another, and she seemed to be no exception, falling prey to her own sense of dread and dismay. Sebastian couldn’t blame her for it, but in direct contrast to that thought, there was no time for this.
Another German swear spilled from his mouth but he reached down, shooting her a firm, “No,” and grabbing her by the elbow to haul her back to her feet. It was a blunt refusal, but frankly, neither of them could afford to wait for her to feel better. Sebastian could try, but he was no therapist, and this situation was not like the one in Italy—the one where he’d sacrificed everything. “I will not leave you,” he said. “Now listen to me. You have two choices, and giving up isn’t one of them. There are autos—cars,” he corrected, knowing that even the slip of German and its translation into English was not proper. Technically, they were tour buses. “You can take one. They are not hard to drive. And you can get out of here if you hurry. Or you can come with me.” He released her then. “Those are your choices. Nothing else. I—can’t,” he ground the word out, “leave yet. But you can. Now make your decision, because if you are coming with me, we are going that way,” he pointed in the direction of other exhibits, remembering the sound of that retreating cackle. “And as a warning, I might not be able to protect you. But you must make a decision now.”
In fact, he was already turning, more than prepared to go. If she wanted to go with him, she would follow. But perhaps it was smarter to steal one of the vehicles and get out. No one would blame her for it.

A word foreign to her came down from above but she ignored it, she ignored everything. But then there was a word she did understand, loud and clear. There was barely any time to react to it before she was yanked up onto her feet. Her mouth decided not to work properly though so she just paused and blinked up at him wide-eyed. This was a horror movie, so why didn't just leave her but then again did they ever. Out of all the cliches, this was the worst. She couldn't really remember what happened to the characters but she hoped that he didn't end up dying for saving her. It's like when you do something good you get a big bullseye for everything bad. Allison's brow came down together and her hands curled into fists. The tension in her shoulders eased slightly at his slip-up. She even cracked a smile before pressing her lips back together in a think line. At the idea of buses, Allison turned in the direction that she assumed they'd be in. It wasn't a bad idea and she turned back in before he gave another. Stay with him? Tightening her grip on her umbrella she lifted it up and placed it over her shoulders. She could do this. If he had her back, she'd have his. At least if she died it was for doing something good. It was funny. There was never a time when she had really though about her life and purpose but it didn't seem out of place now. Allison fell in behind him and smiled. "I'll stick with you, Liebchen" Allison spoke almost no languages fluently but her friends always told her swears. At least she knew a little German other than the words fuck and shit. She knew at least five other languages sparingly. "My friends told me that meant friend in German." It probably wasn't the best time for a language lesson. Picking up her speed Allison tried to keep by his side, really close by his side. She had to make sure she wouldn't be surprised by anything. It was weird though. She thought when it came to situations like this she'd spring into action and save the day. Instead she'd been almost killed, tripped and landed on her face and broken down into a sobbing mess. Allison wasn't going to mess this up even if going towards cackling and evil voices wasn't her cup of tea. "Thank you." she said. "Again I mean. You've saved me and I owe you one or two." She glanced down at the ground and watched her feet as she moved. "So yeah thank you." There was a lot of things that she wanted to say but she didn't even know where to start. "If you see my parents I mean if I don't make it out, can you tell them I love them? They're just biggest version of me really." That might be asking a lot of him though but she wasn't going to die worrying about things.
