With two meetings and a third soon under its way, Allison was going to start believing her first contact with Cal to be a black swan event. It was unpredictable at the least that seemed to be having a major effect on her social life. Meeting him again was definitely not what she thought would be on her agenda. She did not think of herself as a particularly outgoing person and much preferred to soak in the comfort of her own apartment with her cats. But here she was, getting ready for Japanese yakitori in downtown LA.
Maybe she could get him to eat a chicken heart or three.
She will admit that she did put in a little more effect in her attire today, having selected a red tank top paired with a black short-sleeved off shoulder top and black jeans plus red ballet flats. She may or may not have had a little make up on but it was almost unnoticeable. Somehow she didn't want to come across as trying too hard. What on earth was happening to her? They were just two people hanging out for a good meal. Besides, she would have chosen the same outfit for a night out with Ani. Speaking of which, the gregarious Asian girl had been missing in action. She should drop her a message and Allison took out her phone to do just that, asking the other Occidental student for a spot of dinner at her place in the coming week.
Locking quickly after herself, Allison stepped into the lift as her headphones started blaring music into her ears. There shouldn't be a problem in her getting to her car and having a nice quiet drive to the restaurant that she decided after he declared that he was cashing in her promise to have another meal with him.
Really, there shouldn't be.

It was going to be a great day: he could feel it in his fingers, he could feel it in his toes. He had a feeling that this was some sort of song lyric, but he didn't care-- he wasn't exactly going to publish all of his thoughts in a novel or something. For one, he was pretty sure that his memoir would be banned in at least fifty countries across the world due to language, and to be completely fair he was quite sure that every publisher would think that he was on an acid trip. Cal wasn't exactly the most coherent person. His ideas and dreams jumped from place to place, manic and scattered and slightly insane. It was why he felt like most people wouldn't understand him if they faced him in large doses, or if they got close to him. People would know him, yes, but only parts of him that he wanted them to see. It was a careful, calculated manner of acting, and he knew just how to segment himself so that people only knew what he wanted them to know.
Allison on the other hand was a different matter altogether. Cal had suggested that they hang out again, and he was starting to wonder why he constantly felt this compulsion to do so. He knew a ton of other people, had a ton of other options, and yet he'd called her out in just a few days since their last meeting. It was why he was dashing out into the elevator, hoping that he wasn't going to be late. Sometimes he wondered whether he should have run out of his room with a sailor fuku with toast in his mouth like the anime girl that he felt like he was. And the doors of the elevator opened, only to reveal a rather familiar sight that he never thought he would ever witness.
"Oh my god."
It was her.
Allison Chen, in all her glory. She was dressed in a rather nice off-the-shoulder top, and a pair of black jeans. Wait, was that makeup she was wearing? Cal wanted to question the change, but decided to keep his mouth shut for once in his life. It was almost like she was stalking him, only probably not. And for a moment all he was able to do was stand outside the elevator, jaw practically falling onto the floor.

Someone has got to be kidding her. She had a feeling that a certain somebody above in the clouds was having a right laugh at her. Of all the places he had to live in, he had to live in the same apartment building. She should have known, he did say that he had a pug with him and there weren't many places that accommodated pets. Talk about a small world. Too small for her comfort. But there was a thrill really, from the odd situations they fall into.
It shouldn't be normal or possible for such coincidences when it concerned him, or anyone actually. She stared at him just as he was staring slack-jawed at her. Hallucinations were never part of her medical problems and it was not about to start. Then the lift doors threatened to close and her hand shot out to press the open button as the other reached to pull down her headphones. She couldn't help a wry smile.
"You coming in?"
After he did, she had to shake her head in disbelief and laugh a little at the absurdity of it all. "There is something dark at work here. We really have to stop bumping into each other like this." And they were actually heading out to meet each other. Now she felt like they were in a really clichéd movie.
"At least we can save on gas? The villain behind this seems to be quite the environmentally friendly character."
And he looked nice in another superhero themed shirt and jeans.

No. No no no no no. This was not actually happening. Or yes, this was actually happening? Cal wasn't quite sure how he felt about this, felt about her. But he managed to muster up his best 9000-megawatt smile as he sashayed into the elevator, even managing a wink. The more he thought about it, the more it made sense: they both lived with pets, and were both college students. There weren't many places that a college student could afford that would allow you to have pets. Nevertheless, this was going to be hella awkward.
He couldn't help but wonder whether she'd seen any of his booty calls traipsing out in the past. Hell, she was probably going to see one of his booty calls traipsing in. For some reason, Cal wasn't quite sure how he felt about that either. Oh, certainty. How he was going to miss you.
"That sounds like a plan. So. Your car, or mine?" he asked. "I don't mind driving, if you want a volunteer." That GIF of Katniss Everdeen at the Hunger Games couldn't help but surface in his mind's eye. He had a feeling that she wasn't exactly going to be trying to murder him, but then again, you never knew. He pressed the 'close' button, and the door slowly slid shut.
"I've heard that the 'close' button is just a placebo, by the way. It's supposed to just be there to make people feel better."

His smile was in the simplest sense, blinding, and Allison had to wonder if he whitened his teeth on a regular basis or he was just white. It was a nice smile, she had to admit, but it had a little too much swagger for her liking. Cal was a confusing creature. On one hand, he was very much a geek- maybe even a nerd- but he had the personality of a high school jock on the surface. She had wondered briefly about who he really was and while he wasn't faking the charm and the confidence, he had faltered enough times around her to show that he wasn't all that he seemed. But Allison kept to her own policy of not prying and obviously kept the questions to herself. However, she also knew intimately how keeping oneself away from others could a very lonely thing indeed.
While he was busy thinking too much, Allison's usual barriers were slowly crumbling away. He was fun to be around, his personality compensating for her lack of boisterousness, just like Ani's did. Speaking of which, she should be getting a text very soon. He drew her out as he made the effort to engage her. It was something that she was thankful for, as if left alone, Allison would have no problems at all withdrawing into her own world.
If he seemed nervous, she couldn't really tell except for the fact that he was talking at a speed of a thousand miles an hour. But she chalked that up to his usual antics anyways and shrugged.
"You drove the last time but my baby is a Mini Cooper. I'm not sure whether you would be comfortable legs wise..." Yes, for the last time, she was short and that's just life. Cal stood a good head and a bit taller than her at about what she estimated to be 6 feet. She was 5' 3 and a half.
That's 6 inches.
She resisted the urge to sigh. She really was doomed to be surrounded by people much taller than her. Ah well, c'est la vie. Allison paused for a little while before relenting, "Up to you really. I've already decided on the place to eat. You can decide how to get there."
A wry smile couldn't be stopped from pulling at her lips as he continued with his fun facts of the day, "Maybe the researchers had a friend who needed the psychological assurance that their actions are making a difference. Or to stop them from murdering people while waiting."

Two things. The difference between 5'3" and six feet was not six inches, and Cal was not actually six feet tall. In fact, he stood at a rather comfortable 5'11 and a half, but that was a story that he wasn't going to delve into just yet. However, if he could read Allison's thoughts, Cal would have come to two conclusions: 1. Not all Asians are good at math and 2. He was full of shit. Wait, that wasn't a conclusion. That was a well-known fact. Just as the sun rose in the East and set in the West, Cal was capable of spewing crap for hours on end.
"Yeah, we'd better take my car." He'd been in a Mini Cooper once. Before Colin had gotten his own car, Colin and Julie had decided to rent a car and go to the outlet mall. He'd asked to tag along, simply because he wanted to suss Colin out and to see how their dynamic could be. However, they'd both managed to rent the vehicle before he'd invited himself along, and the other male had apparently tried and failed to get it changed. As a result, Cal was stuck in the back of a Mini Cooper as the two hobbits in front happily drove their way to Isengard, curled up in what felt like the fetal position. Never again. He was still having war flashbacks of that moment. The blonde shuddered once again, turning back to Allison as they reached the ground floor.
"So which floor are you on? I just moved in here. Must be why I haven't seen you around yet," he grinned as they reached the parking lot. "I live here with one of my bros. You might have seen him around-- he's the purple-haired giant whale that makes dying whale noises when he gets up in the morning."

She didn't need to delve into his mind to think that he was full of shit. He was already doing a rare good job at entertaining her, when you were cousins with a certain Xander Cunningham, things like that now did not affect her as much. She rather enjoyed it actually. And she sighed, resisting the urge to palm her face. Their height difference was not 6 inches but 8, and she was supposed to have computer programming as a minor. Failure of an Asian, honestly. But you get the picture, he was much taller than her. For the first time in a long while, she cursed her genes. A little height would have been nice, at least people would stop thinking that she would cry at a drop of a pin if things did not go her way. If that was the case, she would have ran out of tears years back.
"Sure. As long as we get there and snag seats by the top table. It's quite a sight to watch. Too bad we can't have some sake with the food. That would have been nice," then she remembered their last culinary exploration at the Korean BBQ place and the corners of her lips curled into a half smile. "Lead the way, milady. I've recently renovated. The castle is now made out of bricks but I saved the mochi for dessert." He should have told her about his first experience with a small car, she would have enjoyed that.
Upon the mention of purple hair and a giant stature, she had to pause and ask, "You live with Bailey?" She had to laugh again, the roommate with a pug and a penchant for bad nicknames was him. Another of such a coincidence. The world worked in funny ways.
"I'm sorry, I think I can already qualify as a stalker on many counts with all these coincidences. I'll have to tell you that I am much too entertained to think about murdering you, ninja skills or not. Too much effort and it's too easily traceable. I like my freedom and record clean of incarceration."

"A sight to watch? Whoa, what's actually going on in this place?" If he had been with anyone else, he would have added, "Are there going to be strippers", but this was Allison that they were talking about. He had a feeling that she wasn't going to quite take to the toilet humour the same way most people did. Or more accurately-- he wasn't sure whether she would take to the toilet humour, and he actually cared about how she'd react. The fact that he actually cared about what she thought was slightly telling, but Cal decided to push that thought aside.
The last thing he needed was more questions, more doubt. God knew he already had enough of that in his life to make things even worse for himself. But he wasn't going to dwell on that. No, happy things, joyful thoughts. He was supposed to be fueled by sunshine, lollipops and rainbows, and he was going to at least present that way until he got back and had to deal with his inner horrors. They hopped into his car, and Cal revved up the engine. Waiting for her to get in, the blonde nodded, eyes widening.
"Holy crap. You know Bailey too? That's so. Weird." The world just got smaller and smaller. "He's one of my best friends." If she wanted the story about how they met and how they ended up being this tight with each other, she would have to ask for it herself. Cal didn't really want to lie to her, but he was wondering whether he should. A lot of people wouldn't quite understand the whole meeting on the Internet thing. At least he was a step higher up from Julie, who was actually dating someone she'd met on the Internet. He couldn't help but chuckle at the statement about stalking.
"Maybe you really are a stalker. And we're all going to die." Then again, dude she was a ninja. If she was going to kill him then she sure as hell had better be subtle. "I should really watch what I put in my mouth around you."
It was then when he realized the innuendo, and the edge of his lip curled up into a grin.

Actually she wouldn't have minded the toilet humor, it was what people spout all the time. Example A: her dear cousin, Xander Cunningham. Lord knows how his boyfriend to be was going to take it all the damn time. The other male must have either the patience of a saint or the sex was really good. Probably a combination of both. Anyways, her cousin hadn't really told her much beyond the guy's name and the fact that he had a really nice derrière. Besides, it was funny when done right.
"Magic. That's what going on." Alison nodded sagely as they walked to his car. She had to smile at the memory of how she met the purple-haired male with a beta fish named Jaws. He, too, towered over her like a crane. Seriously, what on earth did their mothers feed them? Growth hormones? "Yeah, I... got lost trying to get to a candy shop and he helped. Then we took same bus home and we realized that we stayed in the same apartment block. He told me about his roommate who had a pug and likes giving out horrible nicknames. Do you know him?"
She didn't ask about how they met and even if Cal had told her, having internet friends was no different from meeting friends in reality. But what was reality now without the Internet? It was such a big part of most's lives and it's just another way of doing things. Who was she to judge? The only unhealthy thing would be not having friends and she couldn't see that happening to Cal. Not with his personality.
"You are insulting my honor here, princess." She had to smirk at that, "if I were stalking, you would never know." But the next line was something she didn't expect and she arched an eyebrow, returning a half-smile as she conceded a point to him. There was definitely a foray into flirtation and she found herself not minding it as much. Funny, she'd never been one for such games.
"Just make sure you get permission first."

"You mean ninja magic. Miss Allison, you get more and more mysterious with every passing day." If Cal hadn't been sitting in a car, he would have done a sweeping bow and a little dance. The blonde shot her yet another wicked grin, the one that he used for his facade, his mask. Would she still like him if she knew who he really was though? Would she even care? Once again he dismissed the thought, stashing it in the corner of his mind that held the Pandora's box to the battered and broken things. He would unlock it soon enough, even if he didn't want to. It would assault him late at night when he found himself undistracted and alone.
He felt another depressive spell coming in the next few days, but he wasn't going to address it until it happened. There was no point subjecting Allison to the sight of anything that was less than constantly cheery. Even Bailey and Julie weren't fully aware of that side of him, and he barely knew the girl. Besides, she was talking about him now. The beautiful him. "Yes, I'm that roommate. So, do tell me about all the lovely things he's probably said. Did he ever mention that I was absolutely brilliant, dashingly charming and an amazing friend?" He was now backing his car out of the parking lot. "No wonder he came home with a ton of sour apple lollipops that day. He's like. Obsessed. Guy has issues."
Then again, you should have seen Cal guzzle down tons of cake. She seemed to respond to his innuendo as well, and he chuckled. Not bad. So it did seem that she enjoyed this sort of humour.
"Permission? Of course. I'm sure that we'd be able to work something out. One look at you and me and we'd get whatever we wanted. Duo name? Drop dead gorgeous." Was that a compliment? Definitely a compliment. "It's almost criminal."

Mysterious? She could be described with worse. Allison inclined her head and caught the startling grin he sent her way. She had to blink, the blonde was really not her usual meal time companion. They were usually a lot smaller and furrier with claws and whiskers. Occasionally it would be a friend but not like him.
"Bailey regretfully informed me that his roommate's only redeeming point is the cute pug that came with the package." Despite her deadpan delivery, anyone could see that she was teasing. Then she finally caught a faint British accent with the word 'brilliant' and it was sort of pleasing. It reminded her of London. Brilliant indeed, he was too bright, too charming, too attractive. He came across as someone who worked just as hard as he partied. They definitely were not in the same circles or even in the same college. But it was a moot point in denying that she wasn't just a little flattered by his attentions. Cal made her a little nervous and not in a bad way.
It was a good think she was usually reserved and knew how to conceal her feelings rather well. But even so, she couldn't help the blush rising as she heard that compliment. She searched for a way to rationalize it as anything other than a compliment and she fell short. Unsure of how to react, she fell silent and the pink on her cheeks lingered. Needless to say, another thing that she usually didn't encounter. By paying her that compliment, Cal actually crossed a line, making it very obvious that they were never going to be friends in the conventional way.
Well. Wasn't this interesting? And completely out of her comfort zone.
It took her a while to rejoin the conversation, after she was sure that the heat in her face had mostly subsided. "By the way, I had meant to ask... Cal is a shortened form of your name, right?"

He could be charming, could be corny, knew the right words to say to make someone tick. Cal could be twisted, could be manipulative, and had the gift of being able to make everyone feel special. It wasn't as though he tried particularly hard to do it, but that just amplified the fact that people seemed to fall for his actions and words so easily. He might not have had claws and whiskers, but could certainly be catty in his own way.
"Only redeeming point? You wound me." Cal stuck out his bottom lip as he continued driving. He knew that Bailey loved him, and that Allison was just teasing, but oh, was his heart shot into a million pieces. "I'll assure you that there are plenty of wonderful things about me." He would have to talk to the B-man in a bit. They were going to have to have this friendship sorted out if they were going to get anywhere.
"And it's short for Callum. I prefer Cal, though." When was the last time he'd introduced himself as Callum? Probably back in England, or his first year of school in South Lyon. "Is Allison short for something then? Allisandra? Allisononononono? Al. Aly. Aly-cat." He pondered the last one, his brow furrowed into a totally serious frown. "Aly-cat. I could call you that." The blush on her cheeks didn't go unnoticed. Cal chuckled to himself. Would she appreciate a change of subject?
"Feel free to turn the radio on if you want, by the way, Aly-cat" he said. It would be interesting to see the kind of music that Allison was into. "We shouldn't be all that far off. Give us another five to ten minutes?"

ATARAXIA (n.)calmness or peace of mind. Allison had to stifle a snort when he declared that there were plenty of wonderful things about him. Well, she never did think he had a small ego and that just confirmed her suspicions. “I’m sure you’re plenty wonderful.” Her drawl had just the tiniest amount of scepticism to it and a corner of her lips curled in response. Bailey had been most morose when he described his roommate’s antics and that penchant for horrible nicknaming. She wasn’t going to tell the blond that with a name like Bailey’s, it was just like a sitting duck ready to be shot at. “Callum.” She tried the name when he had told her and she found that she actually preferred his actual name to the shortened version. Then she had to arch a brow at him lengthening her name into something it was definitely not a part of. Now that her blush’s gone, what had happened just a few minutes ago was seemingly put behind her. But nothing prepared her for the new nickname he had sought to bestow her. Aly-cat. Alley cat. The irony wasn’t lost on her. “He really was right when it came to your horrible nicknames. I think I’m going to send him care packages as condolence. Please don’t make me start calling you Callie. Or Blondie.” Her hand reached out to tinker with the radio channels, just so she could occupy herself while Callum was driving. She wasn’t one with a strong musical preference; it really did depend on what the situation called for. Classical for studying, anything with a good solid bass for running, you get the picture. So she just turned first station that had a good song, and Foo Fighters’ “ These Days” came on air. Satisfied, she settled back into her seat. | words 298 tags #Callison #food notes OTP |

What Allison might not have realized just yet was that the self-praise was just part of an act. Cal was a master at theatrics and tall tales, a lord of spinning anything he wanted to his advantage. She wouldn't have been the first person to fall for his silver tongue. But why was he thinking so hard about charming her when he barely knew her at all? It wasn't even that he wanted to manipulate her into being friends with him-- no, he did that to everyone. Yet every action when it came to Allison didn't come without some sort of thought.
"Aly-cat. I like the ring of it," Cal thought out loud. She loved cats, after all. Besides, she hadn't said that he couldn't call her that. He was about to make another comment, make another suggestion, maybe even a pass, when a loud rock song blared out through the radio. Without thinking, Cal found himself exclaiming loudly. Then again, Cal was never exactly known for thinking before he spoke.
"I love this song," he said. No, he gushed. Involuntarily, Cal started to hum along to the tune, his head bopping up and down as he did so. And he wasn't able to resist singing out loud, "But it's alright. Yeah it's alright. I said it's alright--"
"Easy for you to say!"
Cal practically belted that line out, pumping a fist into the air in the process. He glanced towards Allison, smiling sheepishly for a moment. But the moment didn't last very long. No, not as he continued to sing, "Your heart has never been broken. Your pride has never been stolen," he continued. Was he serenading her? Hell yeah.

ATARAXIA (n.)calmness or peace of mind. When he told her that he liked the sound of Aly-cat as a nickname for her, Allison could only give him a baleful stare as she drawled in response with a sarcastic "Meow." Obviously she was very pleased with the moniker. She'd like to think that her name was sufficient standing alone on its own. The furthest she'd go as a concession would be Aly.
She, too, was enjoying the song but she did not actually expect him to gush his love for the rock number. Then he started humming, bobbing his head to the rhythm. It wasn't unpleasant but nothing prepared her for what came next: Callum belting out the chorus. Accurately on the tone and notes. Allison blinked back surprised and then the car slowed for a traffic light. It was just downhill from there on. He turned and began to sing in earnest as he held her gaze.
Was he serenading her?
Oh. Dear God, he was. Allison could feel her cheeks heating and she cursed inwardly at her inability to stay cool for long with him. Was there anything he couldn't do? A tiny prick of irritation was mixed with wry amusement and embarrassment. Then it came to her: he couldn't keep quiet for long. Yes, that was what he couldn't do.
At least he had alright taste in music? She hoped that he liked none of the death metal that made her ears ring. That would really break this budding connection
But yes, congratulations Callum. You've successfully rendered her a speechless.

Common sense should have told Callum that anyone he was on a date with would probably take the idea of being serenaded as a romantic gesture. However, because it was Cal, he was 1. not in possession of common sense and 2. not entirely sure that this was a date anyway. Plus it wasn't as though he was singing anything particularly romantic-- he was talking about how her heart hadn't been broken, and her pride had never been stolen. Not that he was actually going to make those assumptions about her, of course. Everyone had some sort of crap in their lives, and he didn't know her well enough to try and dig it out. Besides, he had a feeling that they were both big fans of privacy. So he shot Allison a bright grin. "No offence. It's not like I'd know anything about your life story anyway. It just felt like the right thing to do." It hadn't even occurred to him that he hadn't tried to sing badly on purpose, which he tended to do when Bailey was around or when he was trying to make someone laugh. Despite all his efforts to play the clown, the joker around her, he'd managed to let his facade slip. And it was when he had done so that he'd unwittingly managed to charm her. The next song that came up on the radio, however, changed the entire atmosphere completely. The first song faded out to make way for another, and he couldn't help but smile a little. "Secret. I actually like these guys a lot," he began as Marianas Trench's All To Myself started playing. Pushing his foot on the accelerator, Cal belted out along with the song: " Did you say "please just follow me?" I thought you wanted me. Cause I want you all to myself. I can try to suck it up, I just can't suck it up. Make me feel like some one else!"

ATARAXIA (n.)calmness or peace of mind. I'm under the gun, you're like the only one I just can't decide what I'm running from This isn't what I wanted but I can't keep my filthy fucking mouth shut
As he sang his heart out, she was hit with the feeling that maybe that might not be too far from the truth for Callum. Perhaps there was a reason why he liked it? He might have identified with them? But anyways, the music was catchy and she found herself bobbing her head a little to the beat but she would never sing. She can't. That's why and it would take a death threat for her to sing.
The guy driving this car was a dangerous individual. All that charm and spark, the ability to make her feel special. It didn't look like it took him any effort at all. She was sure that she wasn't the only one whom he turned the charm on for. Allison didn't think that there was any malicious intention at all, well, not with her. There were just some things one picked up while observing the variety of people she'd been around since as a young child. Having successful businesspeople as parents did exposed her to many different situations that led to interesting lessons. She could identify charisma for what it was and what potential there was in a person. The stuff leaders were made out of, the ones that you saw standing on podiums making rousing speeches to a wild cheering crowd. The kind of person her mother would have preferred her youngest daughter to be instead of the quiet, mousy girl who'd rather stay in the kitchen, hidden away from the public while cooking.
"I can see why, the music's not bad."

If Cal could read Allison's mind, he might have been slightly terrified with how accurate her deductions were. Right, right, right on every count. But it was silly, wasn't it, to identify with someone whose target market was young teenage girls? Not that there was anything wrong with being a teenage girl, of course, but Cal was supposed to be older than that, more mature than that. Even if he did tend to come across as a joke, a laugh, the trouble-free, lackadasial image was just part of his charm.
But that was a story for another day. Cal continued to belt out along to the tune, before turning towards Allison. "Sing along," he urged. Then again, she might not have known them, and was probably a little too shy for that. It suited what he knew of her, anyway. She seemed like the more reserved type, which suited him fine. Cal was good at being the one to lead other people on the way, showing them from adventure to adventure.
Then again, this was her adventure, technically. He was the one driving the car, but it had been her idea, which he definitely appreciated. It was nice to not be the one dragging other people around for once. This was why he and Julie were such good friends. They both had the same ideas, same goals, and even if they'd never admitted it to one another they both liked the idea of being taken on a spin rather than leading people around.
"We're almost here, for the record," he said as he eyed the GPS. That hadn't been a very long drive at all. "Got time for one more song, I'd think. Anything you have in mind? Not that you can control the radio, of course. Unless that falls under your ninja powers as well."

ATARAXIA (n.)calmness or peace of mind. It was a good thing that he couldn't read her mind because it would have been more than embarrassing for him to know just how much she was affected by him. Not good by anyone's count, especially hers. Allison shook her head, her neat bob of hair swinging with the movement. Her singing would not crack glass but it wasn't really suited to hold a tune. There was no way she would be able to belt it out like Cal did, she just couldn't project herself that much. However, the shower was a free for all arena for her to hum or even sing along for a few lines with the music she liked to have while taking a shower. Cal wouldn't know this but it was a good thing that he liked to be taken along on a trip because she wasn't really one to stand other people making decisions for her. She had enough of that to last her a lifetime and it's high time that she made some choices of her own. Usually these things are just places to see and what food to eat. For now. So far, it's been a comfortable acquaintance, she might even argue too comfortable but what the heck, it's not as if he was going to murder her. And she wasn't going to roll over and let him if he was planning to do that. That being said, nothing is impossible. He might even be an actual girl. Who knows? He'd make a pretty one. Just saying. "If I did, you'd never know." She replied primly and was about to say something else when familiar lyrics reached her ears and she fell silent. When the days are cold And the cards all fold And the saints we see Are all made of gold Her memory quickly told her that it was Demons by Imagine Dragons. It was one of her all time favourites and she had a love-hate relationship with it. It was a great song but the lyrics hit too close to home. Her panic attacks, her inherent mistrust of strangers, her mother's betrayal to keep her new husband, how she can't seem to let her father go, and her fears of having her issues and her past out in the open. When you feel my heat Look into my eyes It's where my demons hide It's where my demons hide
Don't get too close It's dark inside It's where my demons hide It's where my demons hideAllison's fist clenched. She definitely had a lot of demons and that dream, the one with purple, green and red flashes that lashed at her hard-earned control. | words it's a mystery tags #callison notes OTPl |

Not everyone was down for singing at the top of their lungs. Cal knew that for a fact: he lived with Bailey, for heaven's sake. They were best friends. Though it didn't mean that he couldn't act a little coy as Allison protested. "Aww, come on, Aly-cat," he said, sticking out his lower lip in a mock pout. "What's it to you? I mean, I've already embarrassed myself enough for the two of us." Just a little more. He'd see how she responded.
They had just met, after all, and Cal was more than willing to shake someone new up to gauge a reaction. It helped him tell what kind of person they were like after all. And when the next song came onto the radio, he found himself belting the lyrics out as well, only pausing to speak when there was a lull in the words. He turned to Allison, grinning widely.
Her sudden silence was noted, though not her clenched fist.
"Blown away by my sheer wonder?" he asked, though the expression on his face was of mild concern. He frowned. "Okay, seriously. What's up. A penny for your thoughts?" Their GPS declared that they were only two minutes away now, and Cal frowned. Maybe Allison just didn't deal well with being a passenger in the car of someone she didn't know all that well. He made a mental check to allow her to drive on the way from the restaurant-- maybe things would go better that way.
"You okay?"
