Rayna, agreeing with him? What was this world coming to? He was used to her deferring to him on jobs, but as of late agreeing was definitely off the table. Though to be perfectly honest, he wasn't sure he'd agree with himself on a few things he'd been doing the past couple months. He was just glad he had a good track record with the family heads already, so they would trust that his reckless manner of some things was warranted – after all, he'd never led them astray before, had he? He chanced a glance at Rayna as she reinforced his point, keeping his face carefully neutral – he really hoped their answer was 'no really, it is a coincidence, don't shoot us we promise we won't tell about running across your clandestine meeting!', but his luck was almost never quite that good.
He pointedly didn't comment on her next bit, however, not liking how easily she brought to light the things he wanted to avoid, but managing to keep his face straight nonetheless. The answer she got halfway through didn't help, but her sudden shout of duck in such a panicked tone kicked him into survival mode, and without even having to think about it, he did as she said, launching behind a tree and bracing his back against it. In an instant his gun was cocked, right before the sound of shattering ice reached his ears, close enough that he could tell it had hit the tree. He sucked in a breath, debated for a brief second, before twisting his arm around the trunk briefly enough to shoot a few bullets in the direction of the icey barrage, knowing it would do nothing (well, likely nothing), but it at least made him feel a little better.
“Is it too late to just go home?” he muttered to himself, but not caring if the others did hear him. He took a few moments to center himself, his mind blanking and moving to autopilot, ignoring the fact of what was attacking them and only caring that he was being attacked, which meant move fast and fight back and nothing else. “Need better cover!” he called out, mostly to Rayna but if the others wanted to live he supposed they could take the advice, too.
