tagged: oskenon:ton. time: may 4, 2012 - 11:30AM. speech: rhiannon. notes: please pm me if there are problems. The only way to describe everything right now was surreal. Yes, surreal, because just two days ago, she had been... fighting magical snakes. There was no other way to put it, and she certainly couldn't exactly speak about it to anyone unless she wanted them to put her in a mental ward or something. Yeah, no, that was definitely not something on her bucket list. To some extent, she was wondering if maybe there was something funny in the food to cause her to hallucinate everything that had happened that night. Well, okay, almost everything -- her phone was definitely missing, which was why she had spent a solid chunk of time the day before getting a new one. (Thankfully, she had spares of all her phone accessories by some freak shipping accident. Now if only she could have all her apps and contacts back too...)
Today, however, was to be spent checking out her new apartment space. No, she wouldn't be moving in until the end of the week, but even so, it didn't hurt to take a look. Just for the morning though -- she still had final projects she needed to finish that were due... well, on Monday, so that was what the afternoon was looking like. And it certainly did end up being a nice place that was coming at a bargain price -- for somewhere in Santa Monica. Which meant that it was still a lot for one person to shell out for a studio apartment, and while her parents had agreed to pay for it, they were still urging her to get a roommate. No, like really urging her to. As in really, really, really, really urging her to. Especially after learning that she needed to get a new phone on short notice. (Geeze, wasn't that usually Paris' offense, and not hers?)
It was that, or get a part-time job to remedy the issue. Rhiannon sighed, and if she wasn't so concerned about ruining her makeup, she might have buried her face in her hands. She didn't have time for a part-time job. Yeah, sure, summer was just around the corner, but a.) she wanted to actually have a summer, and b.) she would have to drop it as soon as the fall semester started because the projects and assignments would pile up faster than her sewing machine could sew with the foot pedal pressed all the way down. No, the only choice she had was to go find a roommate somehow, and fast. But how would she do that? Did people use Craigslist to find roommates? But she didn't want to go anywhere near Craigslist either. "Maybe I should post something up on Facebook..." Rhiannon muttered to herself. All of the people she would have asked to room with her already had their living situations ready to go though... Ugh, seriously, who else was there to ask about this?

tagged: Moose. time: May 4, 11:30am. speech: Oskenón:ton. notes: - - -. As much as he’d like to, he was well aware that leaving LA any time soon was a near impossibility. He hadn’t anticipated his recent popularity, or at least, the demand in his art. Apparently, West Coast art was suddenly all the rage, and everybody was looking for little trinkets, woven baskets, chilkat blankets… A few of the more wealthy families even commissioned totem poles, which he obliged rather begrudgingly at this point. He needed money to continue, but he didn’t know how he could even get out of the state with all the demands.
Living in a hostel, though nice on a short term basis, quickly became irritating when he was constantly surrounded by drunk teenagers hitchhiking after graduation. He had little personal space to work, and little quiet to actually sleep. Finally, becoming rather fed up, he figured that rooming with one other person in an apartment would do. With the extra money he was getting, he figured he could afford that for a couple of weeks, if not a month or two.
He did some searching, and he spoke to some friends, and eventually came across the girl that he’d met at the mansion. Or, at least, what he remembered of the mansion. What was her name… Rhiannon. Yes, that was her. She was looking for a roommate, and at that point, something familiar was better than anything.
Oskenon:ton got in contact with her, arranging a meeting at the apartment sometime around noon. Realistically, he could’ve settled immediately; his whole world was carried on his back, after all. He knocked on the door, stepped back and waited.

tagged: oskenon:ton. time: may 4, 2012 - 11:30AM. speech: rhiannon. notes: please pm me if there are problems. Rhiannon was weighing her options, really. Yes, it was true that she had a meeting set up today to meet with someone whom her one of her classmates had told her was also looking for an apartment to stay in. He was a nice man, she had been told, and while Rhiannon was initially skeptical, at this point, having the option to have a roommate was preferable to having her entire life eaten up by responsibilities outside of school and all that came with it. Besides... if her hunch was correct, then she had already met the person that her classmate had told her about. No, really, how many people out there were named Oskenon:ton? Unless this was a different Oskenon:ton out there who spelled and pronounced his name completely different...
Still, what if it ended up being a no-go? That would mean that she would have to conduct the world's fastest, most last-minute roommate search ever -- and that would probably not go over well. Urgh. Maybe posting a "looking for roommate" message on Facebook right now before anything happened would be a good idea. It would certainly save her... on, a precious hour or two? There was actually a lot that a person could do in that time. But then again... what if this went smoothly and did land her with a roommate? It would be so very, very rude to tell anyone who might have potentially responded in that time that she was just kidding while awkwardly laughing it off. Yeah, no, that was not something she did, though she wouldn't put it above... certain... people. No, she had more class than that, thank you most kindly!
Ah, speak of the devil, there was the knock on the door that she had been anticipating. Well, time to put on her best face then! And if it was the Oskenon:ton that she was thinking this man would be, then they had already met before and therefore make things a bit easier. Well, given that she hadn't hallucinated the whole thing about magical talking snakes and girls with their arms on fire. Honestly, Rhiannon didn't even believe it that much herself as things were. No matter though, no time for that now. She peered through the peeking hole in the door before opening the door. Well, at least this guy certainly looked like the same man she had met at the masquerade-ball-gone-terribly-wrong. "Hello, come on in!" Rhiannon said, stepping aside so that the other could walk in. "Ah... Oskenon:ton, right? Terribly sorry that the place is so empty right now, but please, make yourself comfy."

tagged: Moose. time: May 4, 11:30am. speech: Oskenón:ton. notes: - - -. Maybe this would be for the better. It would be a fresh start somewhere new, no matter how temporary it happened to be. Another week or two? A month? He hoped it wouldn't be much longer, because he was eager to be somewhere else that was closer to home. Hell, he wouldn't mind going home for a while after this. It all seemed so much more trouble than it was worth, this whole 'finding happiness' thing. Still, it was important to his father, so it should've been important to him as well. But what if he was perfectly happy on the island? Was there another sort of happy that he couldn't understand until he found it?
Anyways, there was nothing to worry about. He knew the girl he was potentially rooming with... Or at least, if he remembered correctly. She was the pink-haired girl that hadn't died. The other one... suffocated, or something like that. He didn't want to think about it. He barely wanted to think about anything that happened that night, but at least he got to hang out with Moose a little. Well, he had technically given him the floor by his bed to sleep, but that was fine. He seemed to appreciate it, and Moose was a lot less scary afterwards.
The girl answered the door, and yes, she was that girl from the masquerade. Rhiannon, or at least, it was how he remembered. "Ah, thanks." He stepped in, still grinning, though his mind was taken up by other things. He didn't even mind the emptiness; he'd lived around a lot less. "Yeah, Oskenon:ton. And you're Rhiannon, right?" He was pretty sure.
Oskenon:ton glanced around the place. Empty, but cozy, though not the same as home. He didn't care, really. He could live anywhere once he'd lived in hostels for the majority of his time travelling.

tagged: oskenon:ton. time: may 4, 2012 - 11:30AM. speech: rhiannon. notes: please pm me if there are problems. She was grasping for a sense of normalcy, really. But then again, Rhiannon supposed that almost anyone would be doing so after having to deal with giant talking snakes. Giant talking snakes. Yep, still sounded like a whole lot of nonsense to her even now. While this whole thing with looking for a roommate to share an apartment with was definitely not an everyday thing, it most certainly was nicely mundane in comparison to... well, that. Maybe she would bring it up later to Oskenon:ton. Maybe. He had been there, definitely. Or at least, she was sure that she saw him there at the masquerade shortly before everything went to shit and... no, not now.
"Yes, that would be me," Rhiannon replied with a nod. Well, if he knew here name, then he was certainly the same Oskenon:ton she had been hiding behind and trailing after during that whole fiasco with the snakes. She was going on and on about the whole thing with the snakes in the garden, yes, but it wasn't leaving her alone no matter what she did -- not even browsing clothing sites or fooling around on Polyvore. And when clothing and fashion couldn't get her mind off of something, then there was definitely something very, very wrong over here. But the snakes would have to take a backseat for now (or preferably, out of her thoughts forever). "Ah, actually, I meant to ask -- are there any specific needs or preferences that you have in concerns to your living spaces?"
Well, it couldn't hurt to ask, as everyone seemed to have different preferences as to how they liked their living conditions and situations. Her roommate for the school year that had just passed tended to be away a lot, so she had kept her room furnished very sparsely and told Rhiannon that she could borrow whatever she needed from her desk as long as she put everything back where it was, but to never touch her closet or snoop through her dresser. (Okay, so Rhiannon may or may not have borrowed one of her necklaces once or twice or maybe even five times, and she hadn't been able to resist borrowing those pretty red pumps with the little bows in front a couple of times before she caved and bought her own pair, but no one needed to know that.) Then there was her roommate from freshman year who was a (possibly neurotic) neat freak who she preferred to pretend never existed in the first place. So, really... asking was only the smart thing to do, just in case.

tagged: Moose. time: May 4, 11:30am. speech: Oskenón:ton. notes: - - -. Oskenon:ton peered around in the small place; not bad, cozy looking... Rhiannon had mentioned that she was only a student, so her living space was sparse at best. He didn't mind that at all, really; after living in hostel after hostel and sketchy motels in the middle of nowhere, living in a college situation was almost cozy. It was just a sort of tour for now, but he was starting to like the place already.
"Preferences?" He quickly shook his head, looking chipper as ever despite being nearly killed by some over-sized snakes just a few days ago. "Oh no, I don't really need anything. I'm fairly easygoing when it comes to living with other people." People who lived with him in the shared hostels tended to like him because of how quiet he was, and his tendency to keep to himself.
"However, I do hope you're not too adverse to some noise. Of course I can tone it down, but I do a lot of woodwork as part of my job." And sometimes, carving little amulets and such was noisy. If she didn't mind, that would've been excellent. She was someone he (sort of) knew, and the place was clean at least.

tagged: oskenon:ton. time: may 4, 2012 - 11:30AM. speech: rhiannon. notes: please pm me if there are problems. Rhiannon let out a breath of relief when Oskenon:ton stated that he was, as a matter of fact, an easygoing sort of guy when it came to living with roommates. That was good, because chances were... she would have to bring in some questionable people sometimes. Namely a certain hobo in Skid Row whom she visited fairly often because he was, despite being a hobo, a pretty alright and helpful sort of guy. She didn't know if Oskenon:ton was that chill, but fingers crossed and all that stuff. Well, at any rate, at least he would likely be understanding if her younger brother ever decided to stay the night -- as he so often did. God forbid her older brother ever find out about this though. Knowing Quentin, he would not be pleased with this situation. Oops.
Oh, well. She would just have to hope that he never found out. Which he probably would. But until that day, she wasn't going to think about it. Instead, Rhiannon replied, "Well, if anything becomes a problem, don't hesitate to bring it up -- huh?" Noise? Well, all things considered, that wasn't going to be a problem. She smiled and shook her head as she said, "Oh, no, don't worry about it. Noise is perfectly fine. Actually... if anything, we'll both be a bit noisy -- my sewing machine isn't exactly very quiet either." She had been a little worried about that part, actually. The whole thing about her sewing being too noisy because unfortunately, there wasn't such a thing as a completely silent sewing machine. (If one existed, she didn't know about it.) But both their work required the use of noisy tools, then really, it all worked out pretty well in terms of fairness.
"... Well, okay, I would only be concerned if you started revving a chainsaw in here," Rhiannon added as an afterthought. If she remembered correctly, Oskenon:ton seemed to be pretty familiar with a chainsaw, seeing as how that was what he was wielding during the Battle of the Talking Snakes. "Safety hazards and all that, but if it's like... a dremel or something like that, it should be fine."

tagged: Rhiannon time: May 4, 11:30am. speech: Oskenón:ton. notes: - - -. Well, the girl certainly looked like she could’ve been a designer of some sort, so he wasn’t too surprised when she brought up the noises of the sewing machine that she used. Surprisingly, he was aware of how noisy sewing machines got. His mother had a very old one that still required the foot pedal and manual pushing, or whatever it was. Definitely not as nice as modern ones. He missed it, sort of… All those nights where he’d be actually kept up if his mother was sewing something late.
”I think I’m used to the noises from a sewing machine… I used to have to sleep in the same room as one.” Of course, that had all been a while ago, but it still brought about a certain degree of nostalgia.
As for the chainsaw… Well, that immediately brought up a rather sour memory, now did it? Snakes crunched very distinctly when you hit their spine with a chainsaw. Augh, he still couldn’t get the feel under his hands out of his head. He doubted he’d ever pick up another chainsaw if he had the choice, but unfortunately, he didn’t. His job sometimes required him to pick one up, though he greatly preferred more traditional carving tools, even though they took longer.
He gave a nervous little chuckle, shrugging. ”No, no chainsaw in the apartment, I get that. I do have smaller tools, though… Usually hand held tools, nothing electrical, so I hope that’s alright.” Otherwise, he seemed to be able to settle down nicely here.

tagged: oskenon:ton. time: may 4, 2012 - 11:30AM. speech: rhiannon. notes: please pm me if there are problems. Did he now? Well, it was good to know that Oskenon:ton was used to being around the noise of sewing machines, enough to the point where he could sleep with one going in the room -- because chances were, that would be happening at some point come the fall. "Okay, that's good to know, actually -- but still, apologies in advance for any nights that I may be up late working on things, there will most likely be a few of them once the school year rolls around." The current one was about over, but Rhiannon had a nasty feeling that summer would pass by all too soon once it actually arrived. It couldn't be helped, she supposed, but that didn't mean that it wasn't an unpleasant sort of thought to have at the moment, before it even started.
"And don't worry about that, handheld tools are fine, regardless of whether they're electrical or not," Rhiannon replied, then added after looking around the room as she tapped her chin, "But you know, the basic clean up after yourself sort of thing, but I'm sure that's a given." So far, so good, actually -- given that Oskenon:ton was telling her the truth about what he could and could not put up with rooming with people, then he was going to be a perfectly alright roommate. All but one of her main concerns had been met with a positive response that worked out favorably, but that was because she hadn't addressed the final one in question yet. Might as well.
"Alright, then... there's just one last thing I have to ask you about," Rhiannon said, sounding just a bit sheepish. "Last thing, I promise, but... what is your stance on visitors and people staying overnight?" A pause, and then she continued while scratching the back of her head just a bit. "I need to be sure of that, because... well, I have a few regular and semi-regular visitors who drop by." Really, it was only fair to have that out in the open. "Namely my younger brother, he does tend to come by a lot -- he has, in his own words, staked out my couch as his bed. Uhm... there's also my older brother, but... well, he's a whole other can of worms, we might have to explain a few things to him, but I'm sure he'll be fine after that."
Okay, that was a slight lie -- Quentin would flip if both his shit and several tables in his own Quentin-like way if he knew that she was rooming with a man. He would never let her live it down. Paris too, but in a whole other way that was... well, Paris' own. She would have to handle the two of them on her own time. And her father too. It was arguable which of the three was going to be worse. (Her mother, however, would most likely send her off with an understanding smile, a little wave of her hand, and a "just be careful" or other similar statements. "As for non-family visitors... well, you'll know when you meet him, I don't know exactly how to explain this, but, uhm... let's just say that I have a friend who's homeless. That's really the only way I can put it. He looks really intimidating, but... he's nice, I promise. However, if that makes you uncomfortable, I understand." Well... that was it.

tagged: Rhiannon time: May 4, 11:30am. speech: Oskenón:ton. notes: - - -. The thing with Oskenon:ton was that most work noises were bearable. He’d worked and slept in shipyards and building areas, in hostels and on farms and everywhere in between. He was also very well aware of the importance of work, so if there was a need, he wouldn’t be complaining. School was basically the same thing, though Oskenon:ton had never gone anywhere beyond high school, and that was barely scraping by… Well, on everything except for art.
”School, huh? I’ll stay out of your way then. Truth be told, I never went to school myself, other than high school.” After that, he’d simply worked, and it turned out alright on his part. He got a job, travelled, paid his own expenses, sent money home… Well, starved in the beginning, but that was besides the point.
He nodded at the messes part. That was a given, and he was courteous enough to confine messes to his own room and clean up after himself as soon as possible.
”Well, if that’s all, I don’t have much stuff to move in—“ Oh, not all? Oh, visitors. Oskenon:ton just chuckled, shrugging a bit.
”Hey, it’s your apartment. You can have whoever you please come and go, as long as they don’t go into my room, I guess.” Sharp tools and delicate materials in there, after all. ”But really, whoever you want. I can’t say I know too many people in the area other than clients, so I don’t have anybody to invite.”

tagged: oskenon:ton. time: may 4, 2012 - 11:30AM. speech: rhiannon. notes: please pm me if there are problems. "Well, I'm not opposed to talking every here and there," Rhiannon said with a sheepish sort of laugh, then added. "Though the awareness of privacy when it is needed is very much appreciated, so thank you -- ah, well, school past high school isn' for everyone. One of my friends decided to attempt to do an upstart thing on the internet, and... she's actually doing pretty alright, last I checked!" In a way, Rhiannon thought the people who decided to jump right into their careers without going on into college were, in their own ways, fairly brave and far more confident in their skills than she was -- and that was the thing, she was pretty confident with what she did. But she wasn't so confident that she thought that she was good enough to not need to go through college and all that. She wished she was, but no.
She nodded when Oskenon:ton said that it was fine for her to have visitors as long as they didn't go into his room. That made sense -- she certainly didn't want anyone she didn't personally know in her room either. "That I can do," Rhiannon replied, and then added, "Ah, yes, you were saying? Terribly sorry about accidentally cutting you off there, I didn't mean to do so." Well, she did catch the part about him not having much to move in, which was... better than her. Not that she had that much to move in herself (okay, that was a lie, she did have quite a bit if she really thought about it), but... she did have a lot of setting up to do. After all, her room (and therefore work space too) was very important to her productivity, so it had to be set up to inspire her. That, and she just liked her things pretty. "That's all on my end, so unless there's anything more you want to add, I think we're good to go?"
