It was amazing how everything recently had been waking him up at unholy hours. He was starting to wonder if the world didn't want him to sleep anymore. If it wasn't waking him up at unholy hours, it was stress or ridiculousness keeping him awake the whole night. In other words, he couldn't win. It didn't help that this morning, when his phone played his ringtone shrilly across his room, he awoke feeling very apprehensive, rolling over and attempting to pretend the noise wasn't there for a moment. He disliked phones intensely at the moment, and he was afraid he would look over at it and see 'unknown' sprawled across the screen again. He couldn't handle it right now.
Eventually, though, when it didn't stop ringing, he knew he couldn't ignore it. It could be extremely important, and, in his line of work – could even mean life or death. So, finally, after a lot of internal bitching (and just a little bit of external grumbling to boot), he rolled over, grabbed his incredibly loud phone (seriously if anyone else called him before 6am from now on, he was going to throw that out the window), and somehow managed to not drop it on the ground in his uncoordinated grogginess. Luckily, it didn't say 'unknown', but a familiar name, which at least made him feel a little better. Just a little bit.
“I hope you know it's-” he paused, blinked at his digital clock, and finished with “5:14. AM. As in the sun isn't even-” “Can I come up? Please?”
He paused, and looked at the phone again to make sure it was ho he thought it was. The name on his phone boasted it was, indeed, Miss Johan, his little ward he was still guarding on pretty much every day he didn't have a more important job. The tone worried him though. It wasn't quiet...'help me' but it wasn't what you'd call a chipper morning person. He didn't think she was in trouble, but he got the distinct impression now was not the time to smart off. Figuring it best to make sure nothing had happened or she wasn't being held at gunpoint at his door, or something, he answered with a simple “Yeah, stay there I'll be downstairs in a minute.”
Pants on, shirt on, and his favorite knife hooked onto his finger and hidden in his palm just in case, he snuck out of his room quietly, ghosting across the floor, suddenly very alert and ready to move should anything go wrong. He still didn't think he'd sounded...distressed, like she was currently in trouble, but it did sound as if something happened. Either way there was no way he was going unarmed. He made his way down the stairs as quietly as he could (which was hard, they were old and noisy as hell and he cured as several creaked), and moved around the wall to the back door, where he could see her figure standing.
He unhooked the chain and flipped the deadbolt, swinging the door open, his blue eyes still sweeping the area sharply, ready or anything. “Did something happen? It's sorta an unholy...” he drifted off when he saw her expression, and, being as he assumed the worst first, his first thought was 'Great, I bet they got her family. I'm gonna be in deep shit for this ain't I?'

Ana felt like she had just survived world war two's worst battle and been allowed to roll around in all the dirt she could possibly want. Covered in ashes, sweat, dirt, and some blood, Ana had left Jozie and Olivie once the battle was all said and done. The zombies had been everywhere - she'd only just escaped with her 'team' as it were. Joze and Olivie were safe, Lachesis was safe, and that's all that mattered.
Once she'd been able to catch a cab, she's gone to the only place that felt safe. Her hands were shaking as the events that just transpired began to actually sank in. Zombies had risen out of the ground, to kill her, and over what? Ana found she had more questions than answers now, but she couldn't shake the shiver going down her spine. She had been strong, and now the aftermath of her first battle ever began to sink in. She'd acted out of instinct, out of need to survive. Even though those people were already dead... Ana swallowed as the taxi came to a stop. She shoved money at the man before getting out, the phone to her ear as she dialed Lukas. The sky hadn't lightened yet, but it would eventually. The nightmare would be over, soon.
"I hope you know it's 5:14 AM. As in the sun isn't even--" Ana felt something bubble up in her throat as she cut him off. "Can I come up? Please?" The silence was deafening as she waited. Her eyes closed as he told her he was on his way down and she carefully shut the phone off and put it in her bag. She was covered in bruises and she self consciously pulled at the sleeves of her shirt. Maybe a minute or two later the door opened and Ana looked up to see Lukas looking at her with sharp eyes. It was written all over her face how upset she was, the fear that still lingered, the adrenalin that she'd survived something that was never meant for her in the first place. "Can I come in?" Her voice was strained as she licked her lips. Once he let her in, Ana carefully moved past him.
Her hair was a wreck along with her torn clothes. "I need to use your shower and borrow a set of clothes. I just--" He wouldn't believe her even if she /did/ tell him. "I was attacked along with another group of girls once I got out of class. We got away, but my car's been completely ruined and trashed, and I'm just... I'm shaky. We fought them off, and I'm shaking." She ran her trembling hands through her hair, hating herself for the weakness. "Please, I promise I won't stay past my welcome, I just--I can't go home. You're safe," she blurted out. The emotion vibrated with her words and she looked at Lukas, quietly pleading that he wouldn't laugh or make a smart ass comment, that he wouldn't turn her away.
"Please... can I stay?"

His eyes swept her up and down, taking in her battered appearance, wondering just what the hell could have happened. At least that ruled out her family getting killed – she seemed to be the victim. She was still pretty alive, though, and no worse for wear – he didn't see anything bleeding, anyway. She just...looked like she'd been tossed around in the junkyard, more or less. He made no comment to it, though – it meant he wasn't in trouble for failing to do what he was being paid to do...glorified babysitting. He moved back, opening the door all the way and motioning with his head as she asked to come in.
He leaned against the door as his initial adrenaline from waking to a distressed phone call wore off, frowning as she explained what happened. He felt a very...strange sense of deja vu as she described what happened. How it was noticeably void of any real details. How it sounded similar to how he had described what happened to him not to long ago to the family heads – which was still vivid in his mind – generalized and vague. It made him uneasy, and his stomach twisted slightly. The fact she said it like that – he didn't want to ask. He suspected she didn't want to tell, either, and Lukas honestly didn't want to push. Not even remotely. Instead, he motioned towards the stairs.
“Yeah, come on. Just try and move quiet, my roommate tends to sleep light.” 'Like any good assassin would...' He was the same way – any noise his brain recognized as different woke him up. And he was sure if Rayna heard two people shuffling around, it would eventually wake her up. He shut the door behind them, locked it,and moved to press the free hand that wasn't palming a knife to one of her shoulders, guiding her towards the small staircase next to the doorway that led into the coffee shop. It was so early the shop hadn't even been opened, which added to the stillness in the building. He gave the only sign then that he'd absorbed her story as they stepped onto said stairs, but it was nothing to push the subject - “You should have called me when you got attacked.”
It was easy to say when it had already happened and he wasn't obligated to jump up and arm himself to the teeth in the middle of the night, huh? He would have done it, sure, but he would have bitched. He followed her up the stairs and when they got to the top, he pointed to the small door across the room, almost directly across from where they stood. “You're lucky you get first dibs, the water will be warm. The coffee pot hasn't ticked on yet but I'm gonna turn it on, if you want some.” he spoke in a low voice, moving around her to head towards the kitchen as he said it. He hoped Rayna wouldn't get up from the sounds – she was still laid up and needed the rest...though, to be honest, she'd been extra bitchy recently to boot. He was pretty sure that was the last thing they needed.

The dark haired woman couldn't have been more relieved when he let her inside. She felt that he understood, somehow, someway, and was glad that he didn't press for details. She didn't want to lie, but how could she explain that she'd been attacked by zombies and had blown up the Hollywood sign with two other girls and an angel? Against mysterious fog no less? The short answer was, she couldn't. So, for now, she would have to lie and lay low.
Ana didn't say a word when he let her in and told her to move quiet. She merely nodded and followed after him as he led the way. She jumped at the hand to her shoulder in an uncharacteristic show of nerves. The physical touch had her gaze flying to look at him as he guided her up the stairs. "It all happened so fast, I didn't have the time to." Her lie was soft. She had considered calling Lukas for help for a brief moment during the attack, but she knew that by not telling him, by not asking him to come, that she had made the right decision. She had protected him. What would she do if he fell to zombies? She was shocked that she hadn't, but quick thinking and an angel with powers had made life that much more precious to her.
God, she was waxing sentimental.... she really was shaken over this.
Ana felt her stomach churn at the thought of coffee. She'd had some in her thermos when she'd left school after three that morning, and it just brought up what had happened. "I don't want any, thanks." She waited until he had headed downstairs before she ran her hands over her face. The power that filtered through her blood, the left over adrenalin, the fear, had all begun to catch up. Doctors called it shock, Ana called it hell. With a shaky breath that was close to an actual sigh of sorrow, Ana opened and then silently shut the door to the bathroom. She turned the water on and showered as quickly as she could, running shampoo through her long hair. Ashes washed down the drain and the more she saw, the harder she scrubbed.
After five minutes her skin was pink and she shut the shower off. That was as clean as she was going to get... Ana dried her hair with a towel and found a set of sweats. They were loose on her, so she assumed they were Lukas's. Her clothes were trashed, so she searched under the counters and found a plastic bag to wrap them up in.
Ana made sure that she'd put everything away before she stepped out. Exhaustion was clear on her face but the hallway was dark once she turned the light off and the fear came clawing back up her throat. She saw a shadow move - a curtain somewhere - and her first instinct was to run. She jolted away to the first door she came to. Rayna's door was dark, but the next was slightly ajar with the light on, and she found herself in Lukas's room. She shut the door behind her and looked up to see Lukas on the edge of his bed, getting comfortable and warm. Apparently the coffee wasn't ready, or maybe it was too cold, but at the moment, she didn't care.
Ana moved forward, her movements stilted at first before she paused in front of him. "Lukas, I'm going to ask you to do something, and I don't want you to get weird on me, okay?" She was still shaking as she reached forward and wrapped her arms around him and hid her face against his neck. Everything hit her at once as she just held on. "Hold me. Please, just hold me like you mean it until I calm down. I can't--I can't." She couldn't talk about it, but every time she closed her eyes, the soulless corpses stared back at her. It was easy to be brave in the face of danger, it was easy to be brave when you had to be. Lukas practically washed heat over her and the longer she held on, the more her tense muscles started to relax. She started to feel a little lethargic and she moved to sit next to him on the bed, just holding on.

For a good three or four minutes, all the assassin did was stare at the coffee maker atop their kitchen counter intently, mentally willing it to hurry up, leaning close to the machine as if he was trying to intimidate it. However, he eventually gave up, too chilled by the early morning air mixed with the moisture from the rain that had been going for two days now, making a shuffle for his room while he waited. He lifted his hands to cup around his face slightly, breathing into them in an attempt to warm his nose, taken aback by how heated the air actually was. He knew he should have been concerned – but he opted to ignore it, as well as mentally noting to attempt to not breathe terribly heavy in the chill, lest a stream of vapor come forth and cause more problems.
Once back in his room he stashed his knife back into the drawer of his bedside table, assured he no longer needed it, and grabbed his phone from here he'd tossed it on his bed, checking it out of slight paranoia – what, with the trends going recently, he wouldn't be surprised if a family head called him with 'Oh hey, I have something to bitch about, I'll be at your door in five minutes.' Luckily, he found no such message. Sighing heavily while the coast was still clear, Lukas settled on his bed, tossing the phone onto his table, unsure what to really do in the situation he'd suddenly been hurdled into so early in the morning.
Visitors unfamiliar with their occupation was always a little...nerve-wracking. He and Rayna could do it, sure, but what if one of the guests somehow accidentally flipped the false bottom out of the drawer in the desk, or found the false panel in one of the closets where a small armory was hidden behind? It was a little awkward. Needless to say, for looking normal, their apartment was armed like a proper bomb shelter. He supposed it could be worse – Ana, at least, knew of his ties to the mafia, so the occasional weapon here and there was no bother...the hidden station for making fake IDs under the fake top of his desk was a bit suspicious, though, as as the arsenal in that closet he'd mentioned before.
The pains of living paranoid your whole life. You could never just sit and relax when you had company. He didn't seem terribly put-off, though, and was even just about to go grab the remote to hi television when he heard the footsteps don the hall. They were rapid and a lot louder than he would have liked – he hoped it wouldn't rouse Rayna. He would have made a comment, but he suspected now wasn't the time. Typically it wasn’t a good idea to push on someone who was still in shock from an intense event – the moral shittyness part wasn't what got him, but he didn't particularly want to be the reason someone went on anti-depressants...especially when he was supposed to be keeping them safe, making them worse.
Of all things he expected from her when she entered his room, it wasn't her earnest plea. He wasn't going to lie – it was really difficult not to make a smart comment. His lips twitched, but he managed to fight it – it helped he was sufficiently distracted by being latched on to. For half a second his entire body froze, and the fleeting, panicked thought of 'don't touch me don't touch me you're going to make a comment I know it don't touch me' before logic kicked in and he realized she was far to distracted to give a crap about his problems. Well...that was one upside. There was a few moments of hesitation as he mentally absorbed her request, disliking the idea of the intimate contact (more due to his own paranoia of his...condition than anything), but if there was one thing he prided himself in, it was being a good actor.
After telling himself again that she had her own problems to deal with and the last thing she was going to notice right now was his supposed fever (he still didn't feel it himself, but he'd been told on a couple occasions now about it...), he managed to relax, looping an arm around her to settle his hand on her shoulder. Admittedly, he did eyeball his remote mournfully where it sat across the room, but made no attempt to go after it, instead opting to distract himself by critically eyeballing the dark-haired woman clung him as best he could. She had the signs of minor shock, which normally meant nothing more than a little nausea and shakes, but, better safe than sorry, he supposed.
“You may want to let go for two seconds so you can lay down at least. It helps.” he suggested quietly, leaning against her in attempt to move her. It worked in the end, more or less, and Lukas made it a point to prop himself up on one of his pillows and keep himself settled on the outside of the bed – once again, paranoia kicking in, just in case he had to jump up. That and, his phone was on his table – which he had a feeling was about to become his lifeline to entertainment for the next...oh he didn't know, hour, maybe? Until Rayna got up, probably.
...For fuck' sake, he hadn't even gotten his coffee.

Lukas was about to find out that Ana, once she touched someone, had no concept of true personal space unless it concerned her own. If she wanted it, she got closer. Right now, Lukas was that wanted 'it' and she wasn't about to let go. If he did shove her away, she would detract herself as gracefully as she could (seeing as that would be awkward in and of itself) and... well, she'd probably get her stuff and go home. Ana was the type of person who didn't ask for much, but when she was upset, she wanted someone to care. If all she got was the cold shoulder when she was terrified, you could kiss that connection goodbye.
Ana felt even more grateful now that Lukas was holding onto her. She knew he didn't have to, but at least he was playing along. Ana felt her pulse jerking against the wall of her neck and she took deeper breaths to try and calm down. This shock business? It sucked.
Lukas's soft voice broke her from her thoughts and she gently let go as he got comfortable. Lying down, on her body guard's bed? ... Sure, why not. Ana had no problem (although later she might squirm if teased) as she moved to be on the inside of the bed. It was soft and she got comfortable with her feet under the sheets before she moved and laid on him. Ana's hands went around him again as she nested, her legs next to his but her upper half pressed against his. Her head settled on his chest and she relaxed again. She felt her eyes start to slip closed, even though she tried to fight it a little.
"Lukas?" Her voice was soft and sleepy. "Thank you... You're a good guy, y'know? Smartass but... good." Warmth dominated her now as she tried to stay awake, only to begin to fall asleep.
Lukas wasn't about to get coffee anytime soon.

He had to resist scoffing at her sentiment that he was a good guy. He as sure society begged to differ, with their little moral restrains and all that – the last thing they would be concerned about would be his charisma, he as sure. Whatever floated your boat, though, he guessed. He suspected she didn't quite realize he was paid to look after her well-being as per his boss' request...not paid amazingly well, mind you, but it had been Kravec that had asked him to do it and his boss was one of the few people he didn't mind doing some large favors for. She was an amusing enough person to bodyguard, though – he had no complaints about the babysitting role, she just didn't realize half (if not more) his concern was being paid for.
The assassin did, at least, have the tact to never point this out. He opted instead to remark on the smartass comment. “At least I have a sense of humor – you should see how dour some of the other people I work with are.” he responded, still keeping his voice low. Her lack of responsiveness told him she was almost out of the world of the waking, though, and fell silent after that, figuring if she was relaxed enough to sleep, it was probably a good thing. At least it gave him a chance to relax, even if he had been woken up at an unholy hour. He reached for his phone again with the hand that wasn't being occupied by coiling another body, and managed to awkwardly pop his headphones into his ears.
He spent the next hour - hour and a half, maybe – listening to the music on his phone quietly, allowing himself the time to wake up easy now that he knew he could unwind. He was able to tell when Rayna got up due to the loud sound of the water running in the bathroom, but made no move to acknowledge it. Luckily she didn't seem concerned about the noise Ana had made, seeing as she hadn't even bothered to poke her head in – then again, the extra walking probably wasn't something she was up for right now. He knew as soon as Rayna got up that the part-time workers for the cafe would have arrived, as well. Everyone was up, ugh.
Even though he was fighting it, he was slowly starting to slip into a lethargy, just wanting a few more hours sleep...he hadn't been getting much recently and it was wearing on him. His head had drooped to the side and his eyes were closed by the time his phone rang, and he jumped lightly as the shrill noise, immediately awake again. He looked at the phone in his hands for a few seconds before he realized, annoyingly, that wasn't the phone ringing – it was the disposable in his table. Before Ana could wake up and start asking why he had two phones, he reached in the drawer as quickly as he could, probably causing more movement than necessary.
Luckily he managed to get the phone, eyeballed the number, decided he didn't give a shit about that particular family head at the moment, and rejected the call. They knew better than to call back unless it was vital – if he rejected it call, it was normally a signal for being in public and being unable to speak openly. Close enough, he supposed – his charge knew he was tied to the Russians, but she didn't know his role. He'd like to keep it that way, so business calls were a no-no. He reached with his free hand and ran it through his hair, grumbling a bit. He gently shook the woman who was using him as a pillow, seeing if she was awake. He waited a few moments, until he saw signs of life.
“You feel any better?” he asked, yanking his headphones out and setting the other phone aside now that he didn't need it. “It's hit that hour in the morning everyone I know seems to be getting up...like the crazy people they are, so I'm not going to be left in peace, just so you know. And judging by the smell of food-” 'Which I killing me because I would love some of that bacon I smell' “Rayna must be awake. If you want to stay in here you can, but I think I'm going to have to get up.”

Ana, honestly, didn't hear what he said. By the time she'd gotten out that she was oh so thankful for him being an awesome person, she was asleep and dead to the world. Running forty eight hours on less than five hours did that to a person.
She was restless at first, her hands clenching and unclenching at his shirt or skin almost like a dog dreaming and pawing at the ground. Her dreams were murky as she blocked the attack out of her mind completely and finally her mind decided to rest - so she dreamed of nothing.
Ana relaxed after awhile and slept, Lukas's breathing keeping her lulled into a perfect state of sleep. Funny, she'd never slept with another person in her bed, not since she was a kid. She'd forgotten how easy it was to sleep like this. The hour or so passed and she heard something shrill and then Lukas jerk. She groaned softly and buried her face further into the warm, breathing pillow that was her own. Dear lord, did he have to move? Jostled from sleep, Ana stubbornly clung for as long as she could before he was gently shaking her shoulder to wake him up. Ana let out a small sound of resistance against his skin before lifting her head to look at him. He was saying something, but it wasn't clicking as she blinked sleepily at him. She did, however, understand what 'stay in here' meant and she nodded her head. She felt so sleepy, maybe she was still dreaming? Her mind decided that yes, she was, and that hell, since it was a dream, she could do whatever she wanted.
Ana pushed herself up using her arms and grimaced at the soreness for a moment. "Thanks f'r holdin' me," Her voice was slurred from sleep as she pressed a kiss to his cheek and promptly moved off of him and into the warm spot he was about to vacate, covers and pillow already in possession before she passed out again. If anyone told her that she'd show Lukas that sort of affection, she would have laughed hysterically at them and denied it.

He wasn't entirely sure if he should be amused or worried by how nice she suddenly was to him, so he decided to store the information for later and possible use it to make fun of her if he felt particularly mean and she was being particularly difficult. And he could totally pull the 'you have a thing for me' card on her with this one, which seem to effectively annoy her He would deny it if anyone asked but he had fun racking up ammo to use against her. She was much to fun to harass, and he felt no need for feigning the good guy act when she knew he was tied to the mob.
The assassin eased out of the bed, leaving the dark-haired girl to rest, figuring it was high time to find Rayna and let her know they had company. That and...that smell, it was killing him. He shuffled across the hardwood, don the hall, and into the low-lit min room which housed their kitchen and living room. The TV buzzed slightly in the background, just enough noise so that it wasn't completely silent anymore, and light was finally starting to peek through the windows. Lukas didn't even bother greeting Rayna at first, making a beeline for the bathroom when he realized had badly he had to take a pee. When he emerged, he made his way around the counter that separated the kitchen from the living room, and upon seeinb the blonde woman at the stove, decided to poke the sleepy bear in the eye a little.
“Morning, invalid. There better be some bacon for me and did you seriously beat me to my own coffee?” he said in one breath, blue eyes zeroed in on the coffee pot which was almost half empty now. He sighed, rand a hand over his face, and lifted one hand, jerking his thumb towards over his shoulder the hall which led to his room. “Our guest is the girl the boss hired me to bodyguard – Ana. Showed up at the buttcrack of dawn asking if she could stay here-” he was cut off mid-sentence by his own yawn, which nicely accented the point he'd gotten up way too early. Deciding finishing the sentence wasn't that important as Rayna had gotten the idea, he was already moving to make a cup of coffee, dumping a bit of creamer in and stirring before blowing the heat off the top and taking a sip.
It immediately made him feel a lot better. He wasn't as much of a coffee addict as many other people he knew, but he still relied on it – his whole day was off if he didn't have a cup. Nor terrible, per se, but...off, definitely. Though it could normally be countered by other forms of caffeine, such as pepsi. He grabbed a piece of bacon out of the pan as soon as he spied one that looked as if it was decently finished, entirely unaffected by the heat that popped and swizzled around it, shoving the whole piece of incredibly unhealthy meat in his mouth. He'd work it off later between any practices of his hand-to-hand and running around the coffee shop playing good store owner. The redhead smirked at his partner when she looked back at him, feigning a totally innocent look.

Rolling over a hand reached out for the cell phone on the nearest table. The bright light from being turned on made the young woman hissed. Six thirty in the morning, time to get up before the hired help came to a still closed shop. They were opening at seven today, not an extremely early time but it still meant that Rayna had to wake up and open the shop. It was a daily task of hers. Of the shop running was left up to Lukas the shop would be opening at midday and serve nothing but bagels and cold coffee. At least this was how Rayna liked to picture things without her. She needed to feel like she was important, so pretending that the shop would suffer without her, gave reason to why she woke up everyday to open it. Still having time to herself she made her way to the bathroom and hopped in the shower after tossing her sleep wear in the clothes hamper.
The water was welcoming to her skin, she ran her hand over where the stitches Lukas did for her still lingered. A few more days and they could be cut, the wounds were healing well. Her rib was feeling better as well, still broken and sore, but she did a lot better in her movements. Her long hair was surely some sort of beauty blessing, always long and healthy. She hardly ever had more then a few knots at a time, so washing and brushing was a quick task. Once her shower was done she stepped out and dried her body with a towel. That was when the high pitch bell from down stairs started to right. "Fuck, why is that thing so loud." It was more ear splitting then loud, but this would be the third time Rayna made a self note to tell Lukas to mess with the bell. There had to be something wrong with it, the sound was just the wrong pitch and really messed with her hearing every time it rang.
She took her time, the staff knew by now that Rayna or Lukas would open the door when they were good and ready. She shuffled through the bathroom closet and pulled out underwear and a T-shirt, for now that was enough. Honestly the woman did not give a damn about modesty, but she needed to put something on while she at least let the staff in. She jogged down stairs and unlocked the back door for the two morning workers. Stacy and Jason, two college students that needed a part time job to feed themselves while going to school. Rayna had her thoughts about the two, the girl was pretty and had a good open personality. While the guy was a bit shy and soft spoken, she smiled and allowed the two to come in. A strong blush covered Jason's cheeks as he did his best to keep his eyes away from Rayna's lack of clothing. "Stacy, heres the front key. I still have some things to do, but I know you both know how mornings work by not." She walked over to the bottom of the stairs and paused for a second. "Jason, Lukas moved the boxes a bit in the back, so don't panic if you can't find something right away, there is a chat on the wall, I made sure it list where everything is. I'll see you both in a bit."
At least Rayna knew that she could trust the shop to the two, they knew how things worked by now. She made it back up to the small apartment that Lukas and her shared. It was no condo, but it was home nonetheless. She turned on the kitchen light and pulled out the breakfast item for the day. She was not the perfect chef but she knew basic cooking and that was good enough in her book. Bread for toast, eggs, bacon, orange juice and oh look, the coffee pot was already tuned on today. She had a guess that the coffee was for Lukas and he had some how forgotten about it. Oh well, there was enough for more them on person, and it was kept warm from the coffee maker. For the price they paid for it, the thing was a master piece, as long as there was a weight on it from the made coffee it would take intervals in keeping the coffee warm. She poured herself a cup of coffee and after a few sips went on to making breakfast. She got the bacon and was starting on the eggs when Lukas finally made an appearance.
"invalid? Wonderful, lucky for you I haven't had time to drink all the coffee." She kept her eyes on what she was doing, deciding that cooking was more important then looking at her partner. With a sigh she looked up in time to see him make a beeline for the bacon, let the dumb ass burn himself. "Is she staying for breakfast?" The smile on his face was enough to give her the answer she needed. She grabbed an extra plate and added some more bacon to the pan. She also cracked a few eggs, food shopping would have to be on the to-do list for today. They were running out and the two had not been having the best of days to worry about food shopping. "Stacy and Jason are taking care of the shop, we shouldn't have to worry about it for a while." She plopped the cooked bacon on the three plates and then added the scrabbled eggs. Rayna had no clue if this Ana girl would even eat eggs and bacon, but food was food. She placed toast on all the plates and moved to pour the orange juice for all three of them, coffee or not, juice was easier to eat a meal with.
She moved quickly and with ease, placing everything on the dinning room table. She walked back over to Lukas and looked him up and down, now was a good enough time to mess with him. She placed her hand one his chest and invaded his space. "So how did you entertain your charge last night? Did she get a taste yet?" There was humor in her voice, something that was ending up forced more and more lately. Rayna's mood had been shifting poorly for the passed few days. She stepped back from Lukas, but did not move far, any other women would have been embarrassed for being dressed the way she was in front of a man. With Lukas things were just that easy.

“Such a good little roommate. At least you're nice enough to spare her from a buffet of microwave bacon & egg biscuits.” he proclaimed, leaning against the counter and eyeballing Rayna in amusement. Lukas wasn't exactly well-versed in the kitchen, and found it simpler to just stick to pressing a few buttons for his food. Generally he couldn't be bothered to expend more energy than that. She she explained the shop was being maintained he simply nodded, and decided to not say he hadn't planned to go downstairs anyway. Not yet anyway.
He was almost to the bottom of his coffee by the time Rayna came over to lean near him and place a hand on him, and the redhead didn't even miss a beat from her actions, seeming to be entirely unfazed. He was too used to it – it was probably why he got the million questions if the two of them were involved. His answer never helped – it was normally 'not quite'. In truth he'd be far too paranoid to ever allow the blonde woman any closer than she already was – he knew all too well why she was being babysat, and what set her off. His reaction was lukewarm at best as he took a swig from his cup, grinning impishly at her. “I have to wonder how many lectures of 'that's so unprofessional' I would get if that happened.” he intoned lightly. In other words – no.
“Considering she was showing signs of mild shock I got to entertain her by keeping an eye on her while she fell asleep. So exciting, I know.” It was just as well – he hadn't exactly been attentive or alert at the time, he was glad for the extra hour or so to wake up easy. He was silent for a moment, seeming to contemplate this, before finally explaining what little he knew. “She claims to have been attacked, though she doesn't seem to be hurt – just looked like she'd been dragged through the dirt. Pretty damn sure it's true, though, she was out of it.” From what he'd gathered from Ana so far – which was a fair bit, having been keeping an eye on her for over two months now – she liked to be independent too much to do anything like that for attention.
He skirted away from Rayna after that, too intent to get to his food, refilling his coffee before he made a beeline for the table. “I'm starting to feel like a nursemaid, honestly. Should I just put on the little miniskirt and the stupid hat with the red cross on it to complete the image?” he asked, his tone wry.

She shrugged, "You would not be getting that lecture from me any time soon. After all she's just some toy the boss decided was too good to break." Rayna did have a habit of being rather blunt, but to be fair she was convinced that this while bodyguard thing was a joke. After all, they were assassins not babysitters. Still if the boss said jump they were to do without question. "Oh so very exciting." Shock? Due to what? Rayna was about to ask that very question when Lukas decided to volunteer the answer. So she was attacked, but not harmed, too bad. Rayna liked a little violence here and there, and if the girl had gotten hurt or killed then they would have had a reason to have some fun. Not that she had any time for fun, oh no, she had to sit back and relax, heal her broken bones and pride.
A little under two weeks already, she had been trapped in this apartment, only leaving long enough to get some fresh air outside. Even her bikes were being rejected, since she really did not need a sharp turn to mess her up all over again. She loved riding at full speed, but she knew better then to chance re-breaking her ribs. She followed Lukas over to the table and sat, she should have probably went to her room and change, but why? Because they had a guest? Oh well, Rayna really did not care what Miss. Ana thought about Lukas' roommate. "You would look cute, but pushing all these jokes aside. How much does she know? Do I have to play the clueless roommate game?" It was better to know now then later, though that mean she would have to explain the bandages that could be seen on her belly and under her shirt. Though a quick, "it was a biking accident." should be enough to settle anyone's questions. Rayna knew that most people were curious things and would be interested in her wounds.
She glanced down at the plates and pointed to the direction of Lukas' room. "You better get her, I am not playing maid. She either gets the food hot or cold." If Rayna went out of her way to be nice then Lukas would have to herd that girl over to the table. After all Rayna wanted to see first hand what kind of woman this lost lamb was.
Notes: Finally, I kicked Rayna muse to work.

Despite her attempt to rail the question onto a serious note, there was a comment he couldn't resist before answering “Who are you kidding, I'm always cute.” He made a show of running his free hand through his still-messy hair, well aware of the fact he looked less than flattering this early in the day. There was a brief pause as he took a drink, then responded in seriousness. “She thinks I'm just a normal agent. High-end enforcer, maybe. She doesn't know anything about you, but if she's smart, she's probably suspected you're...in the same line of 'work' as me.” His hands lifted in air quotes as he said 'work' and everything. “It's up to you if you want to admit your ties or not – she's sworn to silence either way. If she breaks it...well. I can give you a guess.” he finished, shrugging and going back to his food.
It was his job to be suspicious of everyone, so no, he didn't automatically believe the girl would keep her silence just because the boss had her under his thumb. Sure he certainly hoped she never breathed a word, as clean-ups were messy and generally not fun, but it was safer to assume the worst, rather than the best. It was up to Rayna if she decided she felt like confiding her own association with the Russians...well, so long as she didn't admit her real role. It would be easy enough to pretend to be an enforcer – or even something like a weapons dealer, with the arsenal she had hidden around her room. That way they could still talk much more freely – not entirely freely, obviously, but it would generally be much easier.
He'd just inhaled his last piece of egg and bacon when she told him to go wake up his lost puppy, and he rolled his eyes, grabbed his coffee, and stood up. “So I get the nurse outfit and you get the French maid outfit. Kinky.” he commented as he deposited his plate into the sink, shooting a smirk in the blonde's direction. “There's nothing scarier than the mental image of you wielding a feather duster.” he skirted around the counter and out of the kitchen, snickering as he made his way down the hallway back towards his room. He made no effort to ease in quietly, as it sort of defeated the point, letting the door swing open with an obnoxious creak.
The redhead moved over to the bed, set his coffee on the end table, and leaned over the sleeping woman, pressing one hand against her shoulder and shaking her lightly. “Hey.” he said, not the least bit surprised when she jumped violently in reaction to the disturbance. He hushed her, tilting his head to the side so she could see his face. “Hi, it's just me.” he added, giving her a winning smirk to prove his point. “There's food on the table and trust me you need it. Your body needs the fuel, so if you want a real breakfast and not one you nuke in the microwave, you should probably get up. Plus, Rayna probably has some clothes that fit you better – and as flattering as it is to have a woman in my clothes, I don't think you want to wear that in public.” He was trying, very hard, not to be a smartass to the girl who'd suffered some traumatic experience, but dammit it was hard.

Ana, for all intensive purposes, was completely out of it. The mad dash from the Hollywood sign to Lukas's apartment had been a blur, him answering the door and letting her shower had been the first big dose of reality. Lucky for her, he'd been nice enough to let her sleep (and steal body heat)! Ana sighed in her sleep and settled even further under the covers, willing herself to relax. It worked for the first few minutes. Lukas and Rayna's voices were distant down the hallway, but the dream she'd been trying to stave off took root.
Zombies were everywhere again, she was fighting again, only there was no angel to save her this time, no party members to assist her. All she had was a gun, and knowing that when the last shot went off, she'd die. Her last shot went off just as Lukas slammed the door open. While he walked across the room to wake her, the zombies closed in from all sides. It was no surprise that when he grabbed her in real life and shook her awake, she nearly screamed and started to fight back. Instead of the rotting face of a zombie, Lukas's face came into view and she dropped her hand that had been about to come up as a fist. Her eyes were dilated as she looked at him, hearing but not quite comprehending as she crossed from dreamland to reality. "Food?" Ana pushed at her hair to get it out of her face and looked around. She was in his room, in his bed, and he was offering her breakfast. There was no gun, no zombies, not threat of death.
"Yeah, food," she managed after a minute. Ana sat up and adjusted the shirt she'd taken from him as he made his comment about her being in his clothes. She paused, looked down, and could feel the tips of her ears start to turn colors. Right, her clothes were torn and trashed with corpse dust, so she'd taken his. His mild snarkiness wasn't lost on her and Ana looked up at him, pale and tired. Apparently they both looked like hell. "Consider this a one time flattery then for me to be in your pants," She commented dryly. Ana rubbed her hands over her face and lightly shook her head at taking Rayna's clothes. She'd met the woman once or twice before, but didn't know much aside from the fact that she worked with Lukas in the coffee shop, and probably with the mafia too. Ana didn't particularly care what the relationship there was. Not because she didn't like Rayna or because she was heartless, but the less she knew, the better.
She'd already gotten herself stuck with the Russians, she didn't need to get into /more/ trouble with them. "I don't want to inconvenience her, so I'll pass. I don't particularly care what I wear in public, I sleep in men's clothes for pajamas anyway." Or naked, but she wasn't about to admit that. It was a lot more comfortable to sleep in oversized shirts and sweat pants than a tight form fitting silk pajama set. Ana slid her legs over the end of the bed and stood up, absently tossing the blanket back so the bed was somewhat made before moving towards the door. She could smell the food now and she put a hand to her stomach when it gurgled obnoxiously. Food... she could all but taste it. Better than the ash from yesterday.
Ana assumed that Lukas would follow after her, so she made her way back down the now lit hallway, following her nose. She saw the food at the table and then Rayna. Ana glanced at the bandages with a curious look but said nothing as she looked at the plate full of food. "I could bow at your feet, goddess of breakfast." Andddd good morning to you too! Oh that food smelt so good... looked so good... Ana sat down but didn't immediately touch the food - just in case this was a joke from Lukas. Whoop, sorry, I was just kidding, no food for you! Haha, that sort of thing. Ana didn't think it was, but it was polite to wait until told she could eat regardless.
"I'm sorry about coming in like this unexpectedly, I'll make it up to the both of you. If you want a free lunch or dinner, you let me know."

Rayna rolled her eyes, cute my ass. Rayna knew better then to ever let Lukas' cute cloud her eyes. She knew that living with him had really helped her understand his ways, but boy she was happy that his little tricks did not work on her. She doubt she would be able to handle his nice guy act 24/7. "mmhm, we'll go with enforcer then. I rather not have to play the fool if I don't have to." She took a bite of her scrambled eggs and realized it needed more pepper. She had to stand and lean over the table to reach the pepper, once grabbed she processed to drown her food in pepper. She took a few more bites and was done with her food around the same time as Lukas, even her juice was gone. She laughed at his comment, it was a good one after all. Rayna could picture the event rather clearly, then being under cover and herself running around as some maid. "I don't know, you might be better off as a butler." She stood from her chair and grabbed both his plate and hers, bringing both to the sink while Lukas went off to wake up his charge.
She took the opportunity to check on the staff down stairs, though with the way she was dress she did have enough sense to just call from the top of the stairs. "Stacy!" A few seconds passed before a startled "Yes Ma'am." was heard. "Can you grab today's mail?" The one thing Rayna disliked about this area, the mail always came at an unruly hour of the morning. She was answered with a, "Sure thing." Convinced all was well Rayna made her way to the kitchen and started on those dishes. Just then Lukas returned with Ana. Goddess of food? Well wasn't that a new one. Rayna brushed the comment off with a quick "No problem." She finished up with the small amount of dishes she had and took to moving to the couch. With what Lukas told her, Rayna felt the she should leave the girl some space.
"You don't have to, you must of had a reason, better safe here then anywhere else." A knock was heard at the door and a young woman let herself in with a shy smile. She moved passed Lukas and handed the mail to Rayna, but not without pausing to look between Lukas and Ana. Before any rumors could be planned Rayna shooed the girl away. "Stacy back to work." The woman gave Lukas a quick good morning and ran to the door at full speed. Rayna shuffled through the mail. "Lukas." She tossed the newspaper at him, knowing he normally liked to look through it before her. "So Ana, after you eat we'll find something better for you to wear. Less chance of rumors from the staff if you leave in something that isn't Lukas' "

“Oh look there's the sass.” he retorted easily to the comment about being in his pants, standing clear from the bed so she could get out. He made no answer but a nod when she turned down the offer of probably nicer clothes, simply waiting for her to leaved first. He grabbed his phone on the way out, figuring he'd have to call a ride at some point – he highly doubted Ana would want a ride on the back of Rayna's bike and, well, he sure as hell couldn't drive her. He didn't quite have the required skillset...or a car. He didn't know how long she wanted to stay, but he figured it was better to be prepared.
He followed after her as soon as he'd grabbed it, back down the still dim hallway to the kitchen, where Rayna still was, watching as Ana praised her for the food, raising his eyebrows in amusement and restrained the urge to make a comment about how stroking her ego was a bad idea. He moved to lean against the counter that separated the kitchen from the living room as their guest sat down, noticed her waiting and dropped in with “We already ate so if you're sittin' there waiting for us you'll be hungry a long time.”
The redhead snorted lightly when she apologized for intruding, and echoed after Rayna's sentiment about it not being an issue. “We've had worse intrusions, trust me.” That statement could mean so many things when one was involved with the mafia, but funny enough he meant family heads making an appearance. He distinctly remember Aldridge dropping in to hire them for a very impromptu job once. Now that had been a very unwelcome intrusion, and from what he'd heard she'd been bitched at for compromising their cover.
His train of thought was interrupted by the arrival of one of their part-timers, who apparently Rayna had sent to get their mail. He pushed himself away from the counter and moved over, sending a lazy smile and halfhearted wave that only involved three fingers being lifted to the young girl as she left, and he took the paper from the blonde woman without a word, curious to see if there were any more silly rumors about the mobs – just in case he had to be ready for more complaints from higher ups. Sadly there wouldn't be anything interesting – neither he nor Rayna had had jobs recently.
Lukas took a seat at the table, leaving a chair between himself and Ana so she could have her space, idly browsing the headlines as Rayna made a comment about the other woman not leaving in his clothes lest rumors start. “Spoil my fun.” he commented idly. “Then again you're not one to talk about questionable wardrobes right now, Ray.” Honestly, he didn't care, but if she wanted to play the worker card, he had to poke fun at her a little bit.

"I can't tell you how much I appreciate this, really." Sass? Well, she felt some of it, but she was still a little out of it. The bruises on her arms and legs had started to show up and she self consciously pulled one sleeve down when she spotted it, trying to make the movement casual as she dug into her eggs.
She let the two of them talk back and forth, forgetting just how much a body could be hungry. Before she realized it, she'd polished off the eggs and was halfway through the first piece of toast when Rayna offered clothes. "I, are you sure? I mean I don't have a problem sneaking out like this, I don't want to take your clothes."
She shot Lukas a look when he poked at Rayna and she shook her head. "I don't mind stealing his clothes. He's been too sassy this morning." She did manage to have one smile come out as she paused to breathe and take a sip of her orange juice. Her body nearly clawed at the fuel it was offered and she sighed in happy contentment. Once Rayna vacated to the couch and she was finished, Ana took her dishes to the sink and cleaned them up herself, setting them on the dish towel to dry before sitting back down. "I should probably get going, before my parents have a stroke that I never came home." Where was her phone? With your gun in what's left of your bag. Oh. Right.

Oh well, if was his problem if the girl's father came crying about the misuse of his daughter. Rayna only offered her clothes to be nice, but if both Lukas and Ana were fine with the way she dressed then why should Rayna care? "Do as you please." She shrugged and grabbed the remote to the tv. She might as well sit back and relax until Lukas got rid of his change, then they could talk about this new job they had been told about recently. Rayna herself did not know all the details yet, but she had been planned to bug Lukas about it some time today, that was if she could get some time with Lukas alone. Recently he spent more time out then she had ever noticed. She brushed it off though, deciding that it was no more then normal, but with being laid up she just happen to notice more.
While she was flipping channels the two were off talking about who knows what, after all she started tuning them out pretty quickly. Sure Lukas comment had reached her ears, but she had picked then to stop listening. As she switched from channel to channel some caught her attention. On the tv was something about the destruction of the Hollywood signs. "Lukas take a look at that."
Rayna hadn't expected anything interesting on the local news, but boy this was new. "Suspected of happening some time this morning the Hollywood signs fell. The police are asking for anyone who might have seen what happened to call or visit the LAPD station 932. So far the only thing we have been able to find out is that the sign feel because of some sort of explosion. There are also destroyed cars in the area, but the owns have yet to be disclosed."
"Looks like something some kids might have done for fun, I don't know, what you think Lu?"
Notes: Poor hollywood signs

“I can call a car if you want. They're pretty much at my mercy.” Debatably, that sounded like he was blackmailing them, when to be honest the owner of the limousine company was good friends with his uncle and the two did a lot of business, and occasionally Vasha would remind them of the favors they owed to the mob were to go to whomever called in needing a chauffeur – 80% of the time that was Lukas, of course. So the company was, more or less, a glorified taxi service for the mob, with an occasional 'normal' job. They didn't seem terribly torn up about it. “Though Rayna does have a point, I definitely don't think I should be there to drop you off or they may neuter me.” he added, though honestly, there was the solid excuse of 'hey, I could have been out there saving her life'. Granted he hadn't been, but...he could still use the excuse.
He was distracted by Rayna grabbing his attention before he could follow through that thought, however, and he tilted the paper down and twisted in his chair to look at the TV, looking at the less than quality shot of the obliterated Hollywood sign which was flanked by puffs of smoke and a couple destroyed cars. “You know with our luck watch, they'll find a way to blame us again. Or maybe we actually will be lucky and they'll blame it on the Italians. The media seems to be hot on this mob craze – my uncle told me the other day there was some crack story about the Russian mob being involved in some cars being vandalized – like we don't have better things to do or something.” he scoffed lightly as he turned back to his paper, incredibly glad his face was hidden behind it in time as a puff of steam escaped his mouth. He instantly clamped his lips back together, eyebrows pulled down in an annoyed expression for a split second before reverting back to that apathy.
He focused determinedly on an article about more political bullshit going on, entertaining himself with thoughts of maybe they would be hired to take out one of this years politicians – he love silencing those pretentious assholes. His train of thought was interrupted, however, by a very abrupt exit of their house guest without any warning, and Lukas, with reactions less that lightning fast this early (coffee or no coffee, unless someone was breaking in to raid their apartment he couldn't be bothered moving fast), didn't even get a chance to to call out after her.

Keeping Lukas's clothes didn't really bother her. She had her own stuff, after all. Rayna left the dishes and once Ana was done, she put her dishes up and into the sink. She washed them and then put them on the towel so that Rayna (because like hell Lukas would do dishes) wouldn't have to put them up later.
She went and got her clothes and bag from Lukas's room, only to see that they had the news on. Oh. Shit. Horror flashed across her face as the news reporter showed the collapsed hollywood sign and she cringed. There was dirt everywhere, dust, and maybe a little blood... The camera zoomed in and she felt herself get sick all over again. Then the camera panned to her car and Ana did the first thing she thought of doing - she ran out the front door.
She was out the door, down the hallway, and into the back alley where the back door was in less than thirty seconds. She tossed her ruined clothes into the dumpster around back and hailed a cab to take her home. She'd reported her car stolen over the phone on the way to Lukas's early that morning, so when the car WAS ID'd... well, at least she had covered her butt.
Maybe Lukas's mafia ways were rubbing off after all.
