Living Situation Alexus works as a botanist at the Los Angeles Zoo and Gardens. This allows her to collect the plants that she needs as well as tend to the plants that are already there. A few years ago, she was able to smuggle some of the trees into the zoo. They appear to be California Incense trees, a rather common tree species so most botanists don't even give it a passing glance. The zoo grounds provide excellent care for her trees and she can keep a close eye on them at all times while she secretly looks for new recruits among the people that come through the zoo. Even without the job at the zoo, her family is considered upper middle class. Most of their wealth is attributed to their influence in the Impedio Society. 02. Appearance Your character's physical description/notes. Not required. NOTE TO SELF: Add in later. Like when it's not the wee hours of the morning. 03. Personality ( bitter ) Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Unless that woman has gone through so much shit and has been put down so much that she resolves to being bitter and angry without making any attempts to do anything about it. At that point you either have a single, middle-aged woman with a dead end job or you have Alexus Lovell. There’s only so much responsibility a person can take, and although Alexus may not be at the very top of the list in regards to how much she does, she has certainly done more in the society then some people twice her age. It comes with the territory of having a bloodline associated with the Impedio Society. What makes everything worse is that while she is forced to live her life limited to that of the society, she has the added happiness of jealously watching her dear, older brother live the life of freedom she was never allowed to enjoy. How fucking brilliant. ( secretive ) If you want to survive in this world, keep your hands and your secrets to yourself. Alexus, for one, strongly believes in the saying mind over matter. Strength can only get you so far in the world; a brain and information can get you farther. If she went around letting everyone know her secrets then she was as good as dead. And let’s be honest, how much freedom of speech do you really have when you were part of a community that censors so many ideas? And no, I’m not talking about the United States government. I’m referring to the very society that Alexus was born into. There were the secrets you kept from the world, secrets you kept from friends and family, then secrets you kept from the society. But don’t let them know that. Alexus is does not to keep secrets from the higher ups. Or she’s not supposed to, at the very least. ( realistic ) This girl is hopeful but she is also extremely realistic. Once upon a time, she hoped that the predictions would not come true. That Fate would not try to reawaken people so quickly and that the past would not be doomed to repeat in her lifetime. Perhaps then (she hoped, she really and truly did) that she would attain just a bit more freedom and be allowed to do what normal little girls did such as going to the movies with friends or shopping. Unfortunately, as Fate would have it, her hopes and dreams were dashed and it was back to training with her. So the little girl grew up still hoping that this whole farce would soon be over but all the same, what were the chances of that? In the end, Alexus has resigned to doing what she was born and raised to do. Except instead of doing things and hoping for the best, she now works with a good dash of pessimism added into everything. It’s better that way. ( decisive ) Alexus knows what to do. She can make decisions fairly quickly and effectively, but with speed comes inaccuracy. Although it is something that she needs to be careful of, second guessing is what gets you into trouble into the first place. Alexus will choose a path, preferably the logical and safer route, and stick with it. There should be no regrets because everything is being done for a reason. Once you make a choice, there should be no turning back. You had better learn to work with what you were given otherwise your chances of survival were going to be slim. It’s a good thing Alexus knows what she’s getting into. ( aloof ) This girl has minimal emotional connections and prefers it that way. Unless you are part of the Impedio Society, she wants nothing to do with you. She may act friendly and she may seem like she wants to get to know you, but it’s much more likely she has an ulterior motive. Alexus knows better than to get attached in her line of work. Case in point, her older brother. She never really got attached to him per se but her parents certainly did. And if the problems that arose in their family after he was adopted were any indication, getting attached to people means that losing them was just as possible. So in the end, unless you are a part of the society, Alexus will try not to get attached to you because it just won’t work. ( diplomatic ) Okay, let’s just get straight to the point. The only reason Alexus knows how to be tactful and diplomatic when speaking is because she needed it to get out of trouble during her rebellious stage. Otherwise she’d be running her mouth and complaining all the time. Well it has since carried over into her bitter and angry stage and now she uses it to stay out of trouble and out of the spotlight where she can move around more easily. ( dependent ) Physically, Alexus is a grown ass woman who has a job and is ready and able to care for herself. Emotionally, Alexus is still dependent on people. Once passed that façade that she had built up, be ready for waterworks and other ( considerate ) When her brother was given up for adoption so many years ago, Alexus did what she could in order to fill the gap that he left. She helped but she could not replace everything her parents had lost. Despite that, she continued to try and do what she could for her family even if it meant being self sacrificing for the first part of her life. Then one day, she finally realized that she was unappreciated and used to the point that she lost her own life and desires. Unfortunately, by that time it was too late and the most she could do was dream and hope, and then become the jealous person she is today. Despite that, some tiny part of her remains kind. She is not completely thoughtless and is willing to help and do good things. She just needs to make sure that they are on her terms and not something that could compromise everything she has been working for. 04. History For someone like Alexus Luciana Lovell who desperately wanted a “normal” life, there was no worse family for her to have been born into then the Lovell family; she was doomed from the start. The aforementioned start of it all, began in mid ‘70s. Regulus Lovell was only five when he met his future wife. Likewise, Virginie de la Roche was only six when she met her future husband. Regulus was from a family of Plebians. They were a part of the Impedio Society and were sometimes given menial tasks but were for the most part left out of the loop in regards to more important information. Virginie, on the other hand, was from a family of Patricians. They were considered more important amongst the ranks of the Impedio Society. They may not have been part of the main leadership but they were influential nonetheless. Regulus’ parents were excited for their family to be moving up the ranks of society. Virginie’s parents just wanted their daughter to marry into an easily controlled family. They were not going to allow a family with more power than they had to take their secrets. That would be the end of their family status and their livelihoods. And so the marriage was arranged despite the fact that it was the 1970s and a wedding date was set for approximately twelve years into the future. Regulus and Virginie grew up together as friends. They went to elementary school together. They ignored each other (well, Virginie ignored Regulus) because of their one year age difference and because cooties. In middle school Virginie got a boyfriend while Regulus focused on his studies. In high school, beautiful, buxom Virginie went through boyfriends like there was no tomorrow. Quiet, intelligent Regulus was top of his class. They were complete opposites and ignored each other when they passed through the school hallways, but at home the situation was completely different. At home they were best friends. They knew what the future held for them. They had known since he was five and she was six. However, through all the years that passed, though they were good friends they never fell in love with each other. As planned, once they graduated high school, Virginie and Regulus were married. The wedding was small and intimate. It was a loveless, political marriage but it could have been worse. At least they were friends and could tolerate each other. Usually it is the girl that is brought into the husband’s family but thanks to some clever maneuvering by Virginie’s family, Regulus was soon absorbed into the de la Roche family. Virginie and Regulus Lovell were Lovells on paper only. As they adjusted to their newlywed life, pressure from both sides for them to have children was starting to grow. What the parents did not realize was that both their children may be married to each other but they were in an open marriage. Virginie had her men on the side and Regulus, well, it turned out he had his men too. The pressure for them to have children was avoided as much as possible until it became unbearable. The last straw came when the de la Roche family threatened to take away the kids’ finances. With no other choice, the children copulated (awkwardly and reluctantly) and nine months later, their first child was born. Caius Nero Lovell was a healthy, baby boy born on the 28th of January. As reluctant as the couple was to have children before, they both loved their son dearly. They decided that they would have one more child, one for each of them, or that was the idea anyway, and move on with their lives and respective lovers. About eleven months later, Alexus was born and the family was a dysfunctional but happy one. The parents may not love each other but they loved the children dearly and they were given everything. Sadly for Alexus, the “normal” aspect of her life happened mostly during her first few years of life. When Caius was five and Alexus was four, thing changed. Alexus did not understand what was going on, but it later on in life she would receive the brunt of it. You see, the de la Roche family is infamous in society ranks for wielding a certain magical item. Well, at least that’s what most people think. It is rumored that the de la Roche family owns a magical incense burner that when used will produce incense that can detect those with potential to be awakened as well as those that are descendants of past people. As a result, the de la Roche family has some sort of influence in the Impedio Society because they are one of the main forces in searching for new members and awakened people. However, the rumor is just that: a rumor. But rumors do have a touch of truth. The de la Roche family is actually the only family of botanist on the planet that has access to an extinct tree from when the kingdoms were around. These trees are crucial in creating the incense that detects links to the past and as such are what allow the de la Roche family to create their special incense. And now the de la Roche secret has been passed to their daughter and her family. So as it happens, one day when Virginie was making a new batch of incense, she lit some to test out the batch and ensure that it was acceptable. As per usual, the smoke drifted towards the family, attracted by their links to the past. Unfortunately, when it touched her son, the smoke glowed. The light was dim, but there was no mistake. The glowing of the smoke was an indication that her son had the possibility of being awakened. It was catastrophic for the family. The Impedio Society has a history of killing those that are to be awakened in order to prevent disasters. The couple now faced a choice: kill their son or give him up to a family free from the Impedio Society. In the end, the choice was clear. They would not allow their son to die even if it meant that they would have to be separated from their child. Caius was adopted into a kind family with another little girl. Caius was dead, killed by a poisonous snake while they were on vacation in the Grand Canyon. Nathaniel Brandt was “born”. Alexus’ parents were never the same again. They loved their children but the loss of one shattered them. They had taken everything their family and the Impedio Society had thrown at them but losing their son was the worst thing that could have happened. Regulus began drinking in order to forget the pain. Virginie coped better and took care of her daughter but poured herself into work for a majority of the time. Everyone around them believed that it was because of the death of their child. They did not realize that most of the heartache came from protecting their son from the shadows watching and him grow without them. Alexus could no longer rely on her parents. With only one child remaining, both the Lovell family and the de la Roche family turned their attention to the little four year old girl that was left. All of the family politics, the secrets, and the work would be forced onto that child. And that was just by the grandparents. The Impedio Society had their own plans for the child as well. When Alexus was thirteen, training began. Under the guidance of the combat instructor, Arcturus, Alexus learned fighting skills and honed her body to be able to do what the Society wanted. Her body hurt like a bitch after the training sessions and the workouts but she did learn from them and became stronger as a result. Also, as the sole heir to the de la Roche family, Alexus needed to learn all the secrets and techniques that made them the best recruiters and searchers on the planet. Alexus was not allowed to have a “normal” life like other children. Alexus had school, then tutoring, training, and at night she would study plants and their properties so that one day she would be able to take over for her mother. When Alexus was sixteen, her father died of liver poisoning. He always was a weak man. But, what Alexus could not forgive was that as he lay dying, he turned to her and implored her to fulfill his final wish. He begged her to care for her brother and to never let him fall into the hands of the Impedio Society. Alexus was stunned by her father’s words. She knew that Caius was alive. She knew that her parents secretly watched over him and protected him from being found. But why was it that even as he lay dying, it was still her brother? Why had they never shown her so much attention? She had worked hard for years, and given up so much of her life to fulfill their hopes. And now, she had another one added to the list. It was unfair. Alexus was hurt but she did as she was told. The night her father died, she visited her brother for the first time. She hid from the shadows and she watched, like she had been trained to do. She saw the boy drinking and partying with friends. She saw the boy acting intimate with his girlfriend. Then she saw the boy go home and go to sleep like a normal teenager. She saw a life that she wanted and had to give up because he needed to die. Alexus hated him. She hated the person that she once called a brother because he was the sole reason that she was put through a life of pain and responsibility that she did not want. But Alexus fulfilled her promises. It was one thing that she was proud of. She protected her brother. It did not mean that she had to enjoy it though. Years passed and she graduated from high school and from all the training and teaching she underwent in order to become part of the Impedio Society. As a fully fledged member of the Impedio Society, Alexus goes out regularly to walk around town for no reason. Alexus no longer hates her job, nor does she hate Nate. It really was not his fault, he was only five at the time. Even so, Alexus has become bitter and pessimistic about the world. She just really hope this whole thing blows over so she can actually do something she wants to do with her life for once. 05. Miscellaneous
