Living Situation Alec is currently living at home with his father, but due to all the recent involvement in otherworldly things, Alec has been either staying with Lucas O'Connor or roaming around. Currently Unemployed 02. Personality Alec can be described as a kindred spirit; he is a gentle, loving person who is very seldom seen with a frown on his face. It could, perhaps, be that he doesn't fully know what's going on around him the majority of the time, or it could simply be that he is an optimistic person. In social situations, he likes to chat, but he doesn't try to impress other people with fancy jargon or difficult sentences; instead, he strives for the simpler side of things. It's easy to get by with a little bit of common sense when one isn't attempting to show off, right? He doesn't care for attention that much because, well, he would likely crack under pressure, but he would still retain that wide grin as if nothing ever went awry. One thing that might lead to Alec's downfall is that he can be a bit...inappropriate at times. When he is nervous, he tends to make jokes that may or may not come across as rude. If he does offend, though, he is quite apologetic and quick to right his wrong. He doesn't want anyone to stay mad with him or hold a grudge, so it's best that he just apologize and move on before things go downhill even more. His friends have even called his optimism annoying at times, but Alec thinks nothing of this. Alec's favorite thing to do is to laugh. While things may not be near as hilarious as he makes them out to be, laughter keeps him feeling good. In tough situations, it's sometimes difficult, but he has been told that his laughter is contagious (he hoped that was meant as a compliment, but never sure). His smile was very amusing, almost as if he were trying to hold back from a fit of giggling. That was his best line of defense against insults, and something he had gotten used to doing in spite of all else. 03. History Alec Henry Matthews was born on a bright, sunny day to a cheerful father and a severely depressed mother. Karena Matthews suffered from clinical depression and refused to take medication while his father Henry Matthews was the opposite. He was responsible for raising and taking care of Alec while his mother sat in her room and cried all day. He was never close to his mother for this reason, but he did have a deep understanding as he grew up that something about her wasn't right. When he turned four, his mother attempted suicide. She was placed in a psychiatric hospital for five months where the nurses and doctors tended to her mental needs daily. Exactly two days after his birthday, Karena came home better than ever, but Alec still looked right through her. To him, she was a distant person that wanted something he didn't want to return - unconditional love. That period of attachment had disappeared and now the two were left to mend what little bit of a relationship they could salvage. During his third year of schooling, Alec start showing signs of a learning disability, but his father kept him from seeing a doctor. He knew that his son was just having trouble and that he would grow out of that phase; he was very wrong, and so Alec never received the help that he needed. This was going to cost him later in life, but for the time being he had to just believe his dad knew what was best for him. There was no way he'd be able to blame his dad - how could he have known any differently? In school, the kids began calling him dumb and an idiot. They'd ask him if he even knew his abc's, and when he would recite them, they would mock him and tell him that he was wrong. The children might have been cruel, but Alec took after his father - he would smile at them and tell them that whether he was right or wrong it didn't matter. He learned how to regulate his emotions so that others couldn't elicit a negative response, and he retained this attitude from that point onward. Karena, still trying to rebuild a relationship with her son, couldn't figure out why things were going so badly. She was feeling much better yet her son wanted to spend more time with his father. It took her a little while, but she eventually figured it all out - he would never have a great relationship with her, and she was the one to blame. He was twelve years old and going through puberty while she was beginning menopause - the household was not a very pleasant one. His outbursts were small but were sufficient enough to cause Karena to yell right back. Needless to say that things weren't going too well, and within the year, she had moved out in order to "start a new life." That was fine with Alec because he had his father, and that was all he ever needed. He first learned how to drive when he was sixteen. His father had taken him out and taught him the basics, and Alec seemed to catch on well. Just after he received his driver's license, he was in an unfortunate accident that broke his left arm as well as two ribs. The other driver ran a stop sign and hit him head-on, causing the car to flip twice. Alec came out much better than the other person, thankfully, but both lived. Just before Alec graduated he had been working secretly with a special ed teacher in school and was learning how to use common sense in the place of book-smarts to get by. She taught him basic communication skills as well as problem-solving skills that most teachers assumed came naturally. Ms. Lorena was a fantastic woman who took the time to guide him through the things his father failed to educate him about, but their time was short-lived as she was reassigned to another district. Alec recently graduated from high school and went on to work full time at a department store. The money was nice as it helped him pay for his gas bill, but he wished he had more time to spend doing things. He was looking at different colleges without any clue as to what he wanted to do, so he applied to the local university and wrote down that he wanted to go for general studies. He was barely accepted because of his GPA, but that didn't stop him. Karena attempted to talk him out of it but that didn't matter - if there was one person that Alec didn't care for it was his mother. To him, she was still a stranger and that's all she would ever be. Any advice that she would give him would turn into something he wanted to do. He wasn't a rebellious person in general, but the less contact he had with his mother the better. He still lived at home with his father, but he was getting out more now that he had a job. Things in his life seemed to be going fairly well... |
