[atrb=cellspacing,25px,true][atrb=border,0,true] The sounds of a lonely soul ECHO IN THE NIGHT Although it was only 10 AM on a Monday morning , Nantan couldn't help but shake off the feeling that Wright Law Offices felt more like a graveyard than an lawyer firm. The eerie silence echoed into his makeshift office, making every small sound seem so large as if it was created by a monster rather than lawyers. However, after the meeting earlier this morning concerning the destroyed rooms, the graveyard almost seemed inviting. Sitting down at his cramped desk, Nantan sighed heavily. It had been 10 days since his office and files had been ransacked, but luckily the notes from his previous case were still fresh in his mind. As he ran his hand over his greased back hair, Nantan picked up his pen and started where he left off, peppering the document on his knee with tiny arrows and his own ideas.
After about an hour or so passing by, Nantan was startled by a sudden tapping sound. A month ago, such a noise would be masked by the hustle and bustle of employees, but because of the roaring silence the clicking began to ring in his ears. At first, Nantan could ignore it, focusing on the bottom of his shoe when he lost focus, but soon all he could hear was:
Tap. Tap. Tap Tap. Tap Tap Tap.
The sound permeated his entire brain, soon replacing everything he had just worked on over the last hour. Taking a deep breath, Nantan attempted to clear his head, focusing on his files. When the tapping stopped for a moment though, Nantan almost claustrophobic, as if the sudden silence would enclose upon him and possibly lead to destruction.
At this rate, work was never going to get done, will it? Nantan chided himself for his childish thinking and straightened the papers. However, he didn't even have a chance to flip the page before-
Tap. Tap. Tap Tap. Tap Tap Tap. Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap. Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap.
Sighing, Nantan put away the file and stood up. Suddenly, he was hit by a wave of vertigo, resulting in him falling backwards into one of the piles upon piles of files leaning precariously against the shower curtain dividing the room. However, before he could gain his vision he felt a pair of arms encircle his chest, pulling him off of the pile. With a few blinks, Nantan found himself staring down into the eyes of a concerned man with a pen hanging from his collar.
Are you okay? Nantan's office neighbor asked, understandably confused about the situation at hand. The young man winced when he saw the papers scrambled everywhere, but attempted to hide it. Nantan nodded slowly in response in hopes that the dizziness would wear off.
Maybe I need a break, Nantan thought, unaware of his mumbling.
You should go get some fresh air, the office assistant agreed.
By this point, people had gathered around the office in order to spy the commotion. Turning quickly around, Nantan felt his cheeks turn bright red with humiliation. I just fell, Nantan projected his voice assuredly. No one broke in, I promise. Nantan tried to smile brightly, garnering a few chuckles and more than a couple glares. As the last remaining rubber neckers left, Nantan glanced at his wristwatch.11:27 April 20, 2012.
Nantan apologized to the assistant again (his name was Kurt) and gingerly made his way back to his office. But although Nantan could sit down in peace and silence again, he still could not focus. Resignedly, Nantan put down his file and brushed off the lint on his jacket. As soon as he was done dusting off, Nantan listened again: absolute silence.
Nantan was not one to scream or to make a fuss out of nothing. However, at this point, he felt as though he would collapse under the blanket of nothingness and quiet shuffles if he didn't leave right this instant. lunging for his suitcase, Nantan looked outside and, seeing that it was sunny enough, took his jacket off. As he rolled up his shirt sleeves, he felt so much freer, as if a weight was lifted. But it wasn't enough.
Although it was only 11:35 by this point, Nantan went to his boss' office, with the full intent of taking an extended lunch. I'm going to go take my lunch break now, since I haven't taken one all week. Any objections? Surprised, his boss said there were no problems, but that he was worried. What was he worried for? Nantan would never find out, as he had already bolted to clock out of the building and leave the soundless.
As he took a step outside, Nantan felt relieved, his adrenaline pumping as though he had just hiked up a particularly large mountain. Suddenly, though, Nantan felt lost. Now that he had escaped the quietude of the firm, where was he to go? Also, how could he be so rude to his boss? Wasn't the point of work to, well, work? However, the smell of smog, air, and Chinese food hit his nose, and all of his thoughts dissolved like sugar in water, becoming one with the mix of everything else in the world. Taking out a comb, Nantan combed out the last of the hair gel and unwrapped the hair band from his wrist. Subconsciously, Nantan yanked all of his hair into his fist, letting it go down when the headband was finally in place. With his hair hanging loose to his shoulders, Nantan felt at peace at last. With a skip in his step, Nantan headed towards the park in hopes that he could capture the essence of sound in his brain for just a bit more.

So maybe Kyoko felt just a slight bit abandoned when she found out that Kei would be staying at the station instead of accompanying her with this investigation. Of course, there was lots of paperwork to be done, and Kei was really good at that while Kyoko was not, but usually they did these things together. Yeah, she was feeling hurt and abandoned just a bit. But this was her duty, and she loved her job. So what the Captain said, goes. Though, really their jobs should be reversed since the majority of paperwork to be filed and filled out was her's. Then again, she probably wouldn't do it even if she was the one left behind, sulking and crying and pleading Kei to take her with her. She'd just find a way to invigorate her boss even further. It was probably better, but still. Who would be the one to keep her on track with her job? Knowing her she'd be running around - probably lost - trying to get facts that weren't there. Investigating was, to be quite honest, not the best part of her job. Sure it might be fun looking for clues and such - when they were able to be found. But when method after method after method led to nothing but dead ends, investigating was boring. It was something that Kyoko just didn't look forward to. She wanted the action, the excitement, and investigation didn't really do it for her. So here she was, lost but still doing her job. When this was all done she’d have to ask someone for directions, oh boy. Maybe Kyoko should ask Kei to pick her up once she was done. Although there was paperwork to be done by her partner... Actually, Kyoko probably wouldn't be done anytime soon so by the time she finished and actually needed the directions and assistance, she’d probably be long done anyways. Still, what needed to be done had to be done. Although, she felt more than a bit lost, to be completely honest. Her partner was always there for her and she was lamenting at her absence. Still. The 'investigation' was of a robbery that happened, and the main suspect was currently missing. So here she was, holding out a picture and seeing if she could track him down amongst the many people that littered the Los Angeles area. Hopefully her perseverance would pull through, but after an hour at it and literally no results, she was just about to call it day. It was only halfway through the day too - she had been so sure this would have sucked up much more of her time. And what did you know - she was definitely lost. Her surroundings were just as unfamiliar to her as she was skilled with a sword. As expected. She might as well go showing more people this picture, just in case. Even if she did stray far, much too far away to actually get results. Kyoko found herself in a quaint little park on a quaint little corner of where the fuck was she. It was nice, peaceful, and really quite unlikely for her to find any leads. But it was about lunchtime anyways, and hopefully she could find some good at the vendors (where there some?). Take her break, then get back onto her job. But taking this break by herself, she usually had lunch with her partner, so it was odd. She wasn't a stranger to having meals alone, but when she was on the job and Kei wasn't by her side... it didn't feel like she belonged, really. This job was her job, though, and she had to understand she couldn't work with her partner all the time, though. She approached some people, showing them the photo of the suspect and getting the predictable negative answers. It was just busywork right about now. Just so she could go back to the Captain and prove to them that she was capable of doing things... with Kei, no matter how much it hurt her inside. Because they were like two peas in a pod, fit together like lock and key. They did everything together! Well, did they have good food in the vendors? Maybe she'd get a hot dog, or some popcorn, or something with sustenance. Just thinking about it now, it made her hungry. But just a few more people... just a few more and she'd get her delicious food. "Ah, mister, could you look at this photo and tell me if you've seen someone similar to this person, or this person?" Busywork. That was all it was. The man was... well, she didn't really pay much attention. Things were just a haze now when it came to people - she had no idea who she was asking or who she had already asked. Multiple times already she had been told that she already approached them, and all she could do was give out apologies. She supposed she could pay a bit more attention to people, but she needed to find the suspect first before caring about who she asked about them. Kyoko missed Kei... she would be much better in this situation. After all, she was her superior.

[atrb=cellspacing,25px,true][atrb=border,0,true] The sounds of a lonely soul ECHO IN THE NIGHT As Nantan took a stroll through the park, he felt his previous anxiety melting with each recognition of a new melody. Taxis boisterously signaling their arrival with their horns. A group of girls giggling over a gadget of some sort. Birds singing their songs in trees that rustled so softly compared to the harsh shouts of the street vendors they sheltered. On any other day, Nantan would have been overwhelmed by the sensory overload the greeted him, yet today was different.
When was the last time I went outside? Nantan wondered as he headed for the trail at the park. He was always an outdoors kind of person, it was true, but he had always enjoyed the solitude of the mountains, his horse, and a possible friend. The fact that he was satisfied by such a small amount of interaction- Even in his tight, restricting work clothes- was an indicator that maybe work was eating at him more than he had realized. Still, it's not like he was complaining. Although it felt like a love-hate relationship at times, the feeling he had when he pieced together a case was all worth it.
As Nantan wandered further down the path, his mind soon went silent as he took in the scene around him. He was a bit awed, really. How had he never visited this park before? He had passed it, but why had he never stopped to see the trees? Although the park wasn't very secluded, the little path that surrounded it was charming, protecting the park goers from accidents with a line of Oak trees that hid the chain link fence. Even though the trees were clearly foreigners to the park, Nantan couldn't help but think about home. With a reminiscent sigh, Nantan closed his eyes and continued upon the path, slowly making his way to the end and start of the path.
As he continued walking, Nantan focused on the sounds and smells around him, practicing the skills Yuyutsu taught him as a child. Although it seemed silly to practice hunting tricks in LA, where food was given in paper wrappers, Nantan still liked to try them out every once in a while when no one was looking. As he kept walking, Nantan tilted his chin down and strengthened his stride. He could almost feel the trees as they shook, the leaves as they fluttered-
SMACK.
So much for the gift of the land.
Nantan opened his eyes as he felt the heavy hit in his chest. At first he thought he had ran into a tree, and he started chuckling at the irony of his overactive imagination. However, the laughter in his throat quickly died down when he looked down and saw the coffee eyes of a woman in a police uniform looking up at him and sending him what he interpreted to be a death warrant.
Unfortunately for her, he couldn't receive the warrant on account of his destroyed office, so she'd have to send him the fax with the details at a later time. Nantan shook his head at the sarcastic thought as he extended his hand to her.
Nantan wasn't surprised at all when she batted his hand away. If anything, he felt relieved because she seemed to have enough energy to get up. Are you okay? I'm so sorry I didn't see where I was going, officer Shiomi. Nantan pushed his hair back more and stooped down, noticing the papers that had settled everywhere on the grass. Here, you go, Nantan gestured to her to take the flyers from him. What is this for, anyway? he inquired, hoping he could coax her into forgiveness.

Well, she guessed it wasn't really the best idea ever to do this without her partner. Kyoko didn't do well with... this. Not to say she wasn't social - she was very much social and fun-loving. There was a new club in LA, maybe she'd go there, get smashed and the like. Of course, that'll have to be a day in which she took off, because going to work with a smashing headache obviously wouldn't be a good idea. What would her father say? He'd be so disappointed... Actually, he was quite due for a visit. When was the last time she had seen him? A month? Two months? Much too long. She did wonder how her parents had been doing. Well, it was good that she was thinking about something, because she sure as heck wasn't paying attention to what the man she had handed the photograph to. She smiled, told the man to call if anyone familiar was spotted, left her the number to the station, and went on her merry way. So, she was a bit preoccupied. This day was just going absolutely great. First she had to do this by herself (did they not know how utterly lost she would be, honestly Kyoko thought with all the incidents they would prevent her from going out alone), now, well... Forgive her if her job was not the biggest priority for her at the moment. As much as she loved her field of work she just wasn't exactly feeling the most, well, loyalty to it at the moment. So maybe it wasn't too big of a stretch to say that she wasn't really paying attention, though she had enough sense to at least not run into people. Well, Kyoko did her best to maneuver out of the way of a man who just seemed to be trudging on right in her direction. Side-stepping didn't work as well as she thought she would, because she still found herself on the ground. That man was going to pay for it, he was. She'd kill him herself if that were the case. "Can't you watch where you're going?!" Bad day just got upgraded to one of the worst. The obvious response in this action was to give him the death glare of the century, and that was exactly what she did. He deserved it, after running her into the floor. At least it was somewhat cushioned by the grass, or else he would have had even more hell to pay. Not that it still didn't hurt. She was just so... pissed off right now. Kyoko couldn't even acknowledge that he was familiar, just that she was angry and that he would pay. "No, I'm not okay." She could get up on her own, thank you very much. Just because she was knocked down didn't mean she was automatically unable to do anything. Even though it was just politeness... "You better be sorry." She knew she was short, but to be overlooked to the fact that she got run over was just insulting towards her. She snatched the photo she had dropped from him. "We're investigating a robbery right now. We couldn't locate the main suspect so we're searching around. I don't suppose you've seen them around, have you?" She handed the photo, a bit begrudgingly, towards him. She couldn't wait to get away. It was high time to call Kei and pick her up from... wherever the heck this was.

[atrb=cellspacing,25px,true][atrb=border,0,true] The sounds of a lonely soul ECHO IN THE NIGHT Nantan's smile faded as she kept glowering at him. Was he the only one laughing at his stupidity? Ah well, Nantan conceded. As the police officer got up, Nantan took a look at the photograph she handed to him. Although it was just a black and white printout, his distinguishing marks were as clear as day.
However, Nantan's memory wasn't. Although he kept searching his mind, Nantan realized that he couldn't quite recall most of the details of his week. If this stress keeps building up, nothing's ever going to get done. Despite his memory problems, though, Nantan realized that he could still help the poor woman out. She looked.... off somehow. Maybe she needed a break.
Nantan was not one to judge by appearances, but even he could reluctantly agree that Kyoko looked a bit of a mess. To start with, she was still glaring at him despite the fact that she knew him well enough to know he wasn't a trouble maker. Furthermore, there were leaves and grass in her hair, clinging to the back of her head and sticking straight up like the feathers from a child's Indian costume. Though that last part was his fault.
But it wasn't just her physical sense, it was something more. As he pretended to scan the picture, he started looking for Keiko. Weren't the two always together?
….Oh. THAT was what was off. Nantan handed her back the picture, shaking his head as he did so. I'm sorry, Officer Shiomi. I haven't seen him at all. If I do, though, I'll personally let you know, alright? At his words, she started turning away, clearly in a hurry to just get out of the situation. Her temper, no doubt, was at its absolute maximum capacity. Seeing this, Nantan felt an intense rush of guilt. It HAD been his fault, after all, that she was knocked to the ground. It's not like the trees were going to talk to you anyway, his conscious spewed out as if trying to help the situation. As she walked away, Nantan was unsure of why he was acting so out of character. Perhaps it was because he wished to analyze the situation better. Maybe he wanted to protect others from her fiery disposition. Who knows, it might even be that Nantan had nothing better to do. Whatever it was, Nantan couldn't help but impulsively reach for her arm, gently turning her in his direction.
Want to get lunch? he offered, expecting her to hit him. I'm paying. Just tell me what we're getting.

Kyoko was just having a bad day. A horrible, horrible day. The worst of luck yet, she concluded. She brushed off some of the leaves that were in her hair, still positively fuming about the situation as a whole. She really ought to leave while she still had a grip of her anger, and call Kei to get her out of here. If she had only done it earlier and stopped delaying, maybe she wouldn't have been in this situation. It seemed like he did feel rather bad, but she was letting her pride (and the fact she got pummeled) get in the way of her good intent. It was his fault, after all. He was the one that hadn't been looking where he was going. She was just... the unfortunate victim in this event. Maybe she really should forgive, but she wasn't feeling up to it now. "If you don't recognize him, then I'll be on my way. Call the station if you find anything." Now was the perfect chance to escape. She took the photo from him, none too gently, and turned away, ready to leave and then... And then he grabbed her arm. With as tense as she was, that wasn't the smartest move on his part, as took hold of it and twisted it. It's his fault for grabbing it. It was just impulse, that was all... And yet she still felt guilty. God, his suffering... she needed to get away and get away fast. "Sorry about that, I'll just go now... don't grab my arm again, okay?" From mad, to angry, to absolutely furious. Could this guy get any worse? She didn't even know him - oh. Oh, he did look a tad bit familiar. And he did seem to be more casual around her than a stranger would be to a cop. She hit herself for not figuring it out sooner. "Oh... Mr. Lantanya. Sorry, I guess I wasn't thinking. Didn't recognize you until now. And your hand..." Kyoko felt that anger turn into intense shame and humiliation. Yes, if she just went with her original plan and get out of this situation, like her head was screaming at her to do, maybe she could salvage a bit of her pride and leave this place immediately. Well, she would have, and she was just so damn close to being out of earshot that her plan would have very well succeeded had she not heard the next few words out of his mouth. Crap... how can I resist a lunch offer?! And she was rather hungry. The encounter had made her forget about her previous hunger, and now that he brought it up again it hit her full-force. And... she did feel a bit bad about the whole situation, of mistaken identity and the like. To be honest, she probably wouldn't have treated him as she did if she had recognized him at the time. "Lunch... okay. I don't care, I'm hungry though." He was paying, this was free food, and she always liked free food, with her budget being a bit tight on an officer's pay.

[atrb=cellspacing,25px,true][atrb=border,0,true] The sounds of a lonely soul ECHO IN THE NIGHT The immense amount of guilt the lawyer felt as he gently caught the officer's arm was soon replaced with an intense amount of pain as Kyoko snatched his arm away. With a quick flick of her wrist, Nantan's forearm and elbow were on fire, the nerves warning his body that if this pressure continued that the smallest injury he could walk away with was a sprained wrist. Silently willing himself to not whimper, Nantan looked down into her eyes, gently twisting his wrist in hopes to, at the very least, make his position more comfortable. Though he could have defended himself by overpowering her, he was terrified of how terrible the situation would become then. To Nantan, a broken radius was twenty times better than a full out fight between a fearless female police officer and an athletic lawyer. She would really hate him then.
With a sharp stinging sensation, the iron hold over his arm suddenly disappeared, and Nantan inwardly sighed with relief. His arm fell naturally to his chest and he instinctively held it close like a mother to their infant. Still, the look of guilt and shock as she turned and actually looked at him dulled the roaring in his brain. He just couldn't even fathom being mad at her. He actually felt guilty for her guilt, as she clearly wasn't feeling great today. Even after the anger dissipated from her small frame, Miss Shiomi still looked resolutely lost without Kei, and Nantan figured that there were multiple meanings to that word.
He let down his arm, thankful it had only been his left wrist. How he had managed to hold onto his suitcase this entire time, Nantan could not even surmise, but at least the pair didn't have to clean up that mess on top of this situation. Nantan scrunched his eyebrows at the Japanese woman's words. He wasn't quite sure what he was in the mood for either, to be honest. He was hoping she would know. Naturally, sushi and seafood markets were off the list, but that didn't mean he couldn't still treat her to a nice lunch. Nantan's watch alarm started beeping, alerting him it was time for lunch. 11:55, it read, chirping to its heart's content. With a hopeful tone, the lawyer turned to his companion. "If you're not opposed to a 10 minute walk, I have a place in mind.Have you heard of Sally's? It's not the most modern burger joint, I know, but they make some of the most splendorous shakes I've experienced in my life." Chuckling like a younger man, Nantan fondly remembered the owner, Sally. She had died a couple years ago of a heart attack, but she was a kind woman and had acted as a motherly substitute for Nantan when he first started his job. Thankfully, her son had taken over, leaving the name as Sally's as a thoughtful tribute."It's not too busy of a place, and it might be a nice retreat from the wind." As if on cue, the wind picked up, reminding the two that they were still standing in the middle of the trail in the park.

Of course, the fleeting guilt in her mind still hadn't left, and as much as Kyoko would have liked to apologize profusely, she still couldn't allow herself. Although this was Mr. Lantanya and he was probably just being absentminded, it was still an uncontested fact that he had run over her. And she could have done without the running over today, really it would have been much appreciated. His fault. It was also technically his fault for grabbing her and causing her to twist his wrist in turn. She wasn't at fault, but she still felt guilty for hurting him. On top of that, he was offering to pay for lunch. So really, Kyoko was benefiting from this more than she deserved. Well, he was the one that offered, so she might as well take advantage of that. Hey, if she was lucky, maybe after lunch he could point out what general direction the station was and she wouldn't have to ask Kei to pick her up (though it was a long shot, as she'd probably still get lost in the process there, curse her lack of directional sense). Still, why in the world did she feel like she was swindling him somehow? He was paying for lunch, and in turn she had hurt him. What a great arrangement that turned out to be. Even if it left her feeling more desolate than before. Honestly the matter of food choice lingered in her mind, although she didn't supposed that he would pick the certain foods she had in mind. Kyoko was fine with anything - hopefully it'll be cheap and quick and something that she could stomach. If she said she wanted to get some onigiri, she probably wouldn't be met with a happy face. Ah well, she'd treat herself to some another time if it came to that. Really, since he was paying, he should pick the location of the venue. And she'll be damned if he picked a location with onigiri, because it would either not exist there, or be really expensive. "I really don't mind a walk. Ten minutes is nothing." She'd been walking for a great deal longer than that, so what was another ten minutes? "And I've never heard of Sally's." And Kyoko didn't suppose they had any onigiri either. A burger joint - well, she did like burgers, so that worked out pretty well. And shakes - well, shakes were nice too. "But it does sound good, so lead the way~" The wind was picking up too, and she couldn't wait to get out of it. And since the place wasn't busy, so he had said, it would be a nice place. She considered this to be her lunch break, though she could probably stretch a few hours here and there to make it a bit longer than standard. Pretended that she asked a few more people, did her work for a few more minutes. Ah well, it's not like it really did matter.

[atrb=cellspacing,25px,true][atrb=border,0,true] The sounds of a lonely soul ECHO IN THE NIGHT At her words, Nantan turned around and walked towards the beginning of the trail with Miss Shiomi. After a couple minutes, the two made it to the pavement and headed more towards the center of downtown, where the bright smell of trees was replaced by the acrid oil fumes. Instead of picking up the pace like he was wanton to do in these areas, Nantan turned to the police officer with him. “So, how did you get to the park today? he asked, hoping that the conversation would make him forget about the odor. “Thank you for getting lunch with me today. I really didn't want to go by myself.” As childish as his words sounded to his own ears, he really did mean what he said. Truth be told, he had not liked how he fudged the truth earlier to his boss. At least this way, he was telling the truth.
It wasn't long before the two arrived at an abandoned parking lot. In front of the entrance stood two poles with a chain across the front. “If we go through the parking lot here, we can reach the diner in about half the time it usually takes, Nantan said, pointing around the corner to the exit. Behind all of the large buildings and a couple structures down was a small time capsule of the old American dream, as well as the key to their stomachs. Nantan looked at the police officer uncertainly. Although he knew he was leading, he still felt a bit embarrassed. “Er, if this is against the law, we can take the long way around.... “ Nantan said, feeling a bit conscious. ”Either way, we'll get there eventually.”

The first couple of steps were just silence, and it was a bit awkward. But Kyoko herself was unwilling to start a conversation and force herself into a situation in which she would have to talk, so she stayed stonily silent, making the only person able to start a conversation him. And oh... she couldn't wait to just get this over with. While she wanted to awkwardness to dispel, she wasn't going to do anything about it. In fact, if she did, she'd probably screw it up even more. It's just better if I don't say anything, it'll be easier for the both of us to just go, eat, and then go our separate ways. And the dreaded question was asked... It was only natural that the woman didn't want to admit that she had gotten lost and that was how she ended up here, but lying to a lawyer wasn't exactly the best or smartest thing to do. "I got lost, okay? That's why I'm at the park."Grumble. "And it's fine. You offered to pay, how can I refuse an offer like that?" Obviously Kyoko was not well versed in etiquette. Well, she was, but on this occasion, she just conveniently forgot. Okay so maybe she was just a bit angry, but who wouldn't be? Plus, free lunch was always a good thing, so she should cheer up! Easier said than done. Believe her, she tried. The shortcut seemed promising too, since it cut the distance in half. Which reminded her of how hungry she actually was. So yes, an opportunity to get there faster, Kyoko was going to seize even if it was technically breaking the law. Well, she had never been the most upstanding citizen (or officer), so what were a few trespassing laws that weren't technically laws regular people obeyed either? She was hungry, and her stomach would dictate her actions. "Just go. No one will see us. It's fine, really. Just go. I'm hungry." Of all times to stop and think about the law! "I won't arrest you that's a free meal I'd be missing out on okay." She pushed ahead, though then remembered that she didn't actually know where she was going and that he was supposed to be the one leading. "I do suggest you get a move on, though. Before I die of starvation here." She hated not leading, she couldn't set the pace and the pace that Mr. Lantanya had set was anything but fast paced. Gotta give it to the nature fanatics.idek wat to do

[atrb=cellspacing,25px,true][atrb=border,0,true] The sounds of a lonely soul ECHO IN THE NIGHT Nantan stared at the impatient woman for a moment, thrown off by the cognitive dissonance of a police officer who was willing to break the law in uniform. Really, the more this day dragged on, the more Nantan felt that he was just a thorn in the officer's side. Perhaps it was he was wrong, but Kyoko looked like she was bothered by something else, and he was just getting in the way. “I got lost, okay? That's why I'm at the park." She said begrudgingly, as though it was a shameful thing to get lost. Really, he didn't see why it was such a big deal to her. Getting lost might be bad if you were stranded by yourself, but in a city full of over a million people there was always someone who could know the way back. With a look of troubled curiosity in his eyes, Nantan asked, “But didn't it help you cover more area? And... why didn't you just ask someone for the way back to your original post? I'm almost positive anyone would have helped you out, officer.”
Ah well, he shrugged, looking across the abandoned parking lot. Though he didn't really understand her rush, Nantan agreed with Kyoko and gave her an excited smile. Surely, even she could have fun, no? “It looks too low to go under,” he commented, casually backing up as he spoke. He made sure he had a firm grasp on his suitcase and started sprinting for the chain, jumping mid stride to clear the boundary between him and his exit and eventually stopped jogging halfway through the empty lot.
The movement was absolutely exhilarating. Although he would have cleared it with a slightly exaggerated hop, there was really no need to hold back if, after all, no one would see them. With a small chuckle he turned around to Miss Shiomi and sent her a huge grin. Really, what was with him today? Maybe it was the air, but he really did feel such a surge of freedom today. Nantan put down his suitcase and cupped his hands over his mouth. “Come on, try it!” he exclaimed, hoping to cheer her up. “Unless you'd like to take the longer route instead,” He added, teasing her just a bit. Hey, even some resistance would be more spirited than her current demeanor. If it meant acting like a complete half-wit in order to get her to crack a smile, he then he would just have to act like like one and just enjoy the moment.

"Forget it." Last thing that Kyoko wanted to do was have someone help her in her time of need. Yes, she did get lost and yes, she probably would have been better off asking a civilian to help her back, but she being the prideful person that she was didn't want to admit to herself that she got lost until the very last minute, which wasn't actually too long ago. The one good thing that did come out of it was that she did get to cover more ground, though she did stray rather far and ended up not getting results either way. His words... really didn't make her feel reassured at all. It was almost as if he were criticizing her for her decision not to ask for help and poking fun at her for it. Of course, Mr. Lantanya probably didn't mean that, but could she help the feeling of hurt and offense that he caused? And... if he expected her to jump just like he did he would be sorely disappointed. "Is this really your idea of fun?" Such a professional man to do something so... unprofessional. Kyoko just had to shake her head, despite the fact that she'd probably do that as well just for the sake of it. But at least she'd have the good sense not to do it in public. But with her increasing hunger, she found no choice. One good thing, though. It did make her laugh at the utter hilariousness of him jumping over a fence. Though, it was her turn so, much as she dreaded it. Oh, the things she did for free food. She followed suit, and in no time was beside the man's side once more. "Now please, don't tell me there's anything stupid like that on the way again." I want to eat my food without having to go through obstacles in order to get it. And no more obstacles as such did present themselves on the way, and Kyoko was just very glad that she would be eating very soon. The promise of good shakes also lingered on her mind. After this, then I'll leave. Much to her delight, she found herself in the midst of a fairly familiar area. At least she could be able to go back to the station without having to call on the help of another.

[atrb=cellspacing,25px,true][atrb=border,0,true] The sounds of a lonely soul ECHO IN THE NIGHT Nantan grinned at the Japanese woman as she made her way to his side. “You call it stupid, but if I'm going to break the law then I'm going to enjoy it while I can.” Finally, the woman cracked a smile, even if it was just at the sheer irrationality of his movements. And he benefited from it too: not only did he get an adrenaline rush that helped revive him, he also got to stretch his legs as well. He felt much better, as if he could run a couple miles. Well, if he wasn't so hungry. With an deep breath, Nantan lead his companion to a familiar table in the back corner and sat down across from her.
He flashed her a smile, uncertain of what he should say at this point. He was thankful that she had forgiven him enough to get lunch with him, but he still felt as though she was resentful towards him, as though he had been another raincloud that rolled in right as the storm had blown over. After a few moments where nothing was said, Nantan attempted to fill her in with the history of the area, deciding that a polite stream of conversation was more bearable than this everlasting tune of silence. As he looked over the list, his eyes focused on his old favorites: a plain hamburger and strawberry milkshake. He breathed a sigh of relief. The restaurant looked updated, but thankfully the new owner had kept true to his mother's vision of a retro diner. Although it took 10 minutes or so for the food to be made, at last Nantan was having that early lunch he had asked for.
To his delight, the food was just as perfect as ever, with handmade patties and freshly pulped strawberries. It was everything he had been holding out for and more. It was a flash to the past even, a memory of a younger and stupider him forever etched in the flavors of the food. “When I was in college, I used to come here frequently. It was sort of my guilty pleasure... whenever I got tired of dorm food I'd sneak out and come here instead.” It felt nice to talk about a more carefree time with someone else.
All too soon though the meal was over and it was time to go back to work. Such a shame really, because he was enjoying himself. With a reluctant smile, Nantan told Miss Shiomi to “wait here” while he went to pay for lunch. When he reached the cashier, he came up with a brilliant idea. “May I borrow your pen?” he politely inquired as he was given the receipt. “Thank you” he replied to the cashier, who gave the pen with a noncommittal grunt.
Nantan sat down at the table determinedly and began looking through the map function on his phone. He didn't often use the internet on his phone, but he figured that now would be the best time if there ever was one. Nantan began to write directions from here to the Police Station, consciously writing in print as he did so. After a minute or so, Nantan handed Kyoko the receipt, glad he could be of some help to the woman. “Thank you for today, officer Shiomi. I'm glad that I was able to share lunch with you today.” Nantan stretched his hand out for a handshake and left soon afterward, full yet reluctant to go back to work.
