Living Situation She works full-time as one of the several nurses at the UCLA medical center, fully trained and qualified for said job. She's worked there for four years now, and most the other nurses there have learned not to send her any male students, lest one out of every four of them come back crying. Everyone has their quirks... For the past three years now she's lived in a single-story small middle-class home in the Brentwood section, about twenty or thirty minutes away from her job. It's a modest, very middle-class looking house, but it's very comfortable to her, if a tad cramped. She's not what you'd call poor, but she's not well-off, either - being in the medical field, even if only a nurse, does make some money - enough for a house with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a nice kitchen & den area, as well as a small office, all of which are well-furnished. And lets nor forget the semi-decent sized backyard she needs for her dog, of course. Honestly she can't complain, she considers it a very nice place to live. 02. Appearance ● Is a very non-menacing (you would think, anyway) 5'3", slim and in good shape (mind you with a lot of work, she has her own personal treadmill at home), and has a more pear-like shape (has a lot more curve to her hips than her bustline, that's for sure). ● Carries herself with a level of coolness and confidence that makes her seem unapproachable to many - not to mention is one of those people who seem to have the ability to simply intimidate you with a stare without even having to speak to her first. ● Occasionally eccentric but generally has a fair eye for style and has very feminine wardrobe. Well, she has a whole lot more skirts and dresses than pants, anyway. ● Ridiculously long, very dark brown hair. It falls just about to her hips, and is almost always tied back in some way, even when she's sleeping due to the fact laying on your hair when rolling over is no fun. Despite having so much of it, she somehow manages to take a lot of time out and take very good care of it. ● Pale completion, though when concerned with her face it's normally accented with…not an excessive amount of cosmetics, but enough that you can tell she uses them. She's not so picky on the 'natural' look fad, either - if you're going to wear makeup, make yourself a little more colorful, she thinks. This is normally displayed in her red lipstick and deep blue or purple eye shadow. ● Upturned, almond-shaped brown eyes, framed by her very much prescription glasses. Those babies aren't just for show because she is blind as a bat without them. You can sometimes catch her with contacts but it's an occurrence that's few and far between. 03. Personality The first impression one often gets from a woman like Marielle is very serious, strict, professional, and highly independent. She just carries that air that tells you she's not a woman to mess with, if you'd like to keep all your limbs. Her expression is always stern and intimidating, and the way she carries herself just screams that she's completely sure of herself. And, well, that's what Marielle is, really - a confident, unsympathetic, business-like woman. Of course, anyone should be able to guess that that's not all to her, but most times that's all you need to know, so you can be smart enough to get out of her way when you see that look. She doesn't reflect the best view of herself to others a lot of the time, though she honestly couldn't care. First and foremost, Marielle has a very powerful sense of justice. Ever since she was little, she always wanted to make a difference - she was the little girl that loved stories about superheroes, the kid who sat in the back of her 4th grade class reading comic books, rarely making friends except for the occasional boy who was enthusiastic about the topic as she was. However, this was the real world, and eventually, she settled for a normal enough life - even if the little girl who wanted to save the day was still in there somewhere. This typically reflects in her daily personality, though, as she's the type who will stick up for those who cannot stick up for themselves - typically more for females than males, but she does believe in an eye for an eye…forcefully believes in it, I might add. She's also a strong enforcer of 'the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few' - sacrificing one to save one-hundred, in other words. Not that she's ever been presented with such a situation before, but she has voiced the views before. Marielle is, without a doubt, good at heart - her execution is simply horrible, however, as she fights fire with fire. She's…somewhat compassionate, and has some motherly instincts, which is what fuels her desire to help, but it normally only shows when taking care of the injured and sick students. Normally, however, she's professional, speaking sophisticatedly and detached from emotional standpoint - logic always comes first. This tends to give the impression of her being extremely apathetic - which, can be accurate, giving the situation. Then, of course, there's the fact she can sometimes come off as a totally callous bitch. She can make some of the most heartless comments, and out of simply nowhere - most the times when someone is speaking of doing something purely on their emotions, and not considering logic first. Marielle is strong in her standpoint if think first, act later - don't just jump into it because you feel like it. She oftentimes comes off as totally humorless, but that's not quite true - her sense of humor just isn't…conventional. Other than that, however, she's not too bad - a little withdrawn, a little stern, but always professional with how she handles things. Unless, of course, you're a male. Let it be noted - she treats men as if they are nothing more than something disgusting on the bottom of her shoe. Unless, of course, they rank above her in the world to a staggering degree - then she, for the most part, can fake respect. You can almost see the distain in her eyes when she speaks to them, however - like they're beneath her. She thinks all men are total idiots, and have no right to be holding as much power as they do, and are a far too egotistical gender…well, the whole subject of men is very touchy to her. She isn't so intolerant that there aren't any exceptions to her hatred, but there has to be a good reason - and boy are they few and far between. She does have a soft-spot, believe it or not, which not many people have discovered. She actually likes being…feminine. Girly, if you will. She'd probably actually be an excellent shopping partner - it would be one of the few times she would lighten up, talking willingly and openly about things. It's one of her few quirks, amazingly. She's also one of those people who is just a tad compulsive; if you move something in her house, even a little, she'll probably make some annoyed sound and quickly move it back. This might be a bit due to her being a bit scatterbrained while she was in school, however, and losing so many things so many times it was simply ridiculous. 04. History Born to Amaury and Laura LaRoux, the only child of the two, Marielle seemed to be growing up in one of those perfect families, with little true problems - her father had a very good, steady job, and her mother was the at-home mom for her daughter, and it all just seemed like that peaceful family situation that everyone strives for. Unfortunately, we all know how that's never true - the more peaceable something seems to be, the more screwed up it normally is. This was no exception - Laura was one of those women who got easily bored, and had no clue why she was married in the first place - thus, Marielle saw a lot of boyfriends through her house as a child, a different man in the house every week or so, and her mother promising her goodies if she didn't tell daddy. Marielle, of course, at the time didn't understand a bit of it, so indulged her mother. The older she got, though, the more her mother stopped bringing over men - obviously, scared of the day when her daughter would realize it was wrong. That day took a surprisingly long time, considering - she was scared to tell her father, for fear of the result. She went through all her childhood and into the middle of her junior high school years without saying a word, and by the time she began to get the gall to speak up (especially considering she'd only recently caught her mom going out and doing the same thing again), she became distracted by her own problems. In school, she wasn't exactly…well-liked - she was one of those reject 'weirdoes', really, and was never left alone by some of the boys. At first, the more she was poked fun at, the more she shrunk in on herself - curled up in a ball and took it. However, everyone has their limits, and one day, she stood up from her desk in the middle of class, strode right over to the boy who'd been abusing her just before class, and planted a solid punch on the side of her face. It was that day that Marielle seemed to become a totally different person. After that, it was all uphill - or downhill, depending on how you look at it - for her. She was still teased and bullied, but she had no qualms giving them a good beating. It slowly began to form her reputation of the badass of the school. However, she wasn't the type to attack people with no reason - and right after that, she also managed to walk right into the midst of family dinner, announce what her mother had been doing, and walked back out without even flinching. Pretty much, Marielle had hated being the one being stepped on for all those years, so finally, she was doing the stepping on. Her distaste of men had started then, too, because she watched her father attempt to 'make amends' with her mom, despite her mother being obviously uncaring of the subject - watching him being so vulnerable bothered her. The boys at the school didn't help, because they became dull as soon as she beat them down a few notches - what happened to that male ego, that pride, huh? A few losses shouldn't get them - but no, they moved on to more hapless victims as soon as they realized Marielle was out of reach. So, she began not only to defend herself from these bastards, but others as well - and the more she did it, the more she hated them. She became a one-man disciplinary committee for the school, and no one wanted to mess with her, despite the fact she was female, and so small, she had the most domineering presence. This, naturally, couldn't have lasted very long. Eventually she started to get caught and reported in, and as soon as they started to threaten expulsion, she toned down - leaving others to fend for themselves, even if it made her cringe to do so. She did begin to coach the downtrodden to defend themselves, to teach them it really does make a difference just to stick up for yourself. All this was done to keep herself amused amidst the boring work of school - her fanciful dreams of being a superhero had sputtered out many years ago, but in return she'd decided she'd help people in another way - she'd wanted to go into the medical field and had been working hard to get decent grades to make it easier for her to get into college. But ugh…it was dull. Between abusing the boys and helping others, though, she managed to keep herself amused enough to get through high school and with decent grades, so college wasn't any problem for her. She managed to crack down and force herself to only focus on schoolwork when she was there, however, especially considering she moved out of the house (tolerant of her father, certainly, but didn't want to live with him any longer than she needed to, with him being as attention-needy and pathetic as he was) and had a part-time job amidst all this. She wasn't particularly fond of how the real world worked, but she knew she'd have to conform to it anyway. Conform being used lightly - she passed through three different of these part-time jobs due to the fact she either patronized her male boss, refused to listen to the male managers and would only answer to their boss, who was a female, or, in one extreme case, she stomped on one of her boss' feet when he attempted to get too friendly with her…with a four-inch heeled shoe, no less. And she wondered why people looked at her like she was joking when she told them she was studying to become a nurse. Three years of school and she was a registered nurse, however, and filled the role quite well, considering she actually had quite a mothering instinct. She worked at one of the local hospitals for about a year, but yet again, that was a job that caused conflicts due to a lot of the extremely egotistical male doctors she worked alongside. Eventually she was downgraded to work as a school nurse at UCLA, in hopes that the prevalent female workforce in the office there and the less contact with co-workers would work out better. It did…to an extent. She would have gotten fired a few times already for having sent a few boys back to classes looking like they were about to pee themselves, and a few of them even crying - but simply got a few probationary warnings and finger-waggings after hearing said boys had either attempted to either come onto her, or, the ballsier ones attempted to feel her up. As they weren't her superiors this time, she managed to slide by. After a while the other school nurses managed to learn to not send males to her - or at least, not the ones who looked like they could cause trouble. Marielle has always done an impeccable job of getting herself into career issues left and right…but has somehow managed to stick with her UCLA position for four years now, which says she's obviously doing pretty well with this one…small incidents of bowling jocks aside. 05. Miscellaneous ● She has a five-year-old male golden retriever by the name of Seven. He's been her baby since he was a puppy, and he's the only male she will trust in and love devotedly - though he is, of course, neutered. Not for being mean-spirited, surprisingly, but purely practical reasons. Has officially decided that, who needs a man in their life when you can have a dog - they're more loyal, more affectionate, happier to see you when you get home. Seven is her lapdog, even if he's a good 70-75 pounds - he is also one of the most lazy creatures you'll ever find, only exerting energy to greet Marielle when she comes home, to beg for food, and to go out to the bathroom. That's it. His namesake is due to the fact that, whenever Marielle has him by her side, he always seemed to be really good luck - so, 'Lucky Number Seven'. ● She's taken self-defense classes and had a brief stint in martial arts classes, so while she's certainly not what you'd call an adept fighter, she does know how to disarm you with a low blow…and then probably kick you repeatedly while you're down. It's to be expected - the last thing she ever will be is helpless woman. |
