Joze is currently a scholarship student in one of the prestigious high schools in Los Angeles. Honestly, she hates it, but the school is good and almost guaranteed to get her accepted to a semi-good college, so she lives with it. maid/waitress. Currently, she's a waitress at the Happy Maid Cafe. The work is tedious, but not all that hard, and the pay was rather good, seeing the nature of the cafe. And she has time to do homework after work, and still drag in a good pay for her family. residence. It's not in the best neighborhood, and it's not the best living situation (but it certainly wasn't the worst, given the looks of things), but it's cozy and comfortable. Her mother and father are usually out of the house, and she can claim the house for herself mostly due to the fact that her brother Len is never really home, and her sister stays cooped up in their shared room. She really shouldn't monopolize the little TV of theirs, but she does. Really, time spent watching cliche old cartoons could really be spent doing her homework, but what could she do? They were oddly addicting. The family managed to upgrade to a two story house, only for the fact that they had three children and they could not squish them all into one room in a two-bedroom apartment. She and her sister share a room, while Len had his own and their parents the master bedroom. When the family is out and about, Joze rarely leaves her room, since the atmosphere tends to be strained. 02. Appearance Blonde hair, blue eyes, and a pale complexion - one could call her a porcelain doll. Although they would have to face her wrath and fury if they ever referred to her as that in her presence. To be perfectly honest, she cares a lot more about her appearance than she might lead one to believe. Every morning she takes care in brushing her hair, styling it, and dressing herself in clothes that didn't hurt her figure. Though she doesn't spend too much time - so long as she looks decent enough not to be mistaken as a homeless person. Joze also goes through great pains to nurture herself and eat healthy. There are a few things she's self-conscious about with her appearance, her height being one of those things. Standing at 5'1", she's quite short compared to her peers. And she hasn't changed for a while - she'd really hate it if she had to stay this height for the rest of her life. Sure, there were a few that were shorter, but to be honest she was amongst the shortest of the batch. Another thing she can't stand is the utter lack of breast growth. She was sixteen already - she should have at least something to show for it! But nothing. She looked like a grade schooler. It was horrible. 03. Personality Joze is, well, she is very nice at the first glance. Perhaps a little shy at first. One of words that defines her is 'determination'. Even though her life is hard, she doesn't fail to remember things she needs to do, work on school, and pull in money for herself. She generally leaves her peers alone, and ignore all they say if they even say anything about her. The only people she really warms up to are her friends. Although she rarely socializes, she can be called stubborn and a bit of a know-it-all. But lovable all the same, if you could love a know-it-all and a stubborn person. Turns out, those don't really mix well, although for the past lifetime she has basically coped well with the issue of telling people off and not admitting she is wrong. Because - although she is human and do get facts wrong at times - she is typically right in her own eyes. As one would guess, she hates the social scene, although for the past months she has warmed up to it a little, finding it a nice little escape from her otherwise stressful life. Information about her family and friends is usually revealed here - where she feels most comfortable. It's not like one would get all the little tiny details, but general facts would come up for almost no reason. Of course, this isn't necessarily a very good thing for her. On normal standards if one would ask about her history, her family, she could brush them casually aside (or forcefully, depending on what was asked and how it had been executed on her), and ignore them for quite some time. It's not something she'd open up willingly on accounts of being sane and collected. It's just, she doesn't want to appear vulnerable or weak to anyone. However, secrets she can keep, no matter what is is. One would call her loyal. Joze wouldn't reveal even a little bit, no matter how insignificant it may be. And for a cause she believes in, well, no one should tell her to quit it or she will be a fierce beast and let all hell break lose. Speaking of which, one probably wouldn't want to annoy Joze, or tick her off. Even if it is for the tiniest little thing, she may freak and completely flip out on them. This usually happens whenever she feels insecure, vulnerable, or threatened (or perhaps all three at the same time). Although she's exceptionally guarded over her personal life, she does have an exterior. It all depends on what mood she's in and what is said. The last and final piece of Joze you should know - it's that she's a hopeless romantic. She wants to one day find true love, she wants to be swept off her feet, she wants to utterly be protect and protect. Someone who understands her. A prince. Or a knight in shining armor. She understands that it’s probably an impossible feat when she won’t open up, but maybe some person could be persistent enough... 04. History High society. It was something that their family had always been a part of. Bright lights, fancy dresses, and evening parties were apparently the life of her parents, and their parents, and their parents before that. They had been a rather influential family, or so she had heard. Around the time of her birth, her family had been kicked out of this ‘high society’ and was left with a couple dollars to their name, courtesy of her grandparents. Joze supposed they had pretty good reason too, but even after the whole debacle was cleared up, they didn’t take back their family and continued to shun them. Something about ‘shame to the family’ or something ridiculous like that. Honestly, it was probably only to save face. Even if she didn’t know the very last nitty gritty details about it, it just wasn’t fair to have gotten kicked out of the family practically penniless. Especially now that they had three hungry children and a tiny house they could barely afford. But the scandal goes a little like this. The Atkins family were close friends with the founder of wright law offices. The business hadn’t even been planned yet, much less has it opened, but the founder was a naturally righteous person and had plans of making some kind of business to help others. It had originally been planned to be a charity, but plans had to be stopped because a tragedy had struck. The person’s (Joze hadn’t actually known much about the person, actually, only that they was referred to as ‘the founder of wright law offices’) daughter had been found brutally murdered, at the age of only twelve. When she said brutally murdered, she really meant that she was raped and stuck inside a water pipe for a few days before being found in the sewers. Being close, the family (her mother, her father, and her older brother) had been questioned about them. Evidence shows that apparently one of them had been the murderer rapist. But the problem was apparently ‘too much evidence’. Good lawyers were in demand and when they had a lot of money, it wouldn’t have been a problem. But even with money, no sane lawyer would take a case with so much incriminating evidence against them. They had to go in with a state attorney, which wasn’t that bad considering that the particular one believed in their case (despite the fact that pretty much everyone else, even Joze’s grandparents, didn’t). The accused was her father (a one Mr. Cameron Atkins) at the time, seeing as her brother was only about a year old and her mother (Alyssa Atkins) was pregnant with her at the time. The lawyer had been rather resourceful, enough to get her father out of a guilty verdict by presenting an ‘alternate scenario’, where doubt would be cast and the jury would doubt his guilt. There was also the fact of ‘too much evidence’ as well. But the trump card was when the lawyer had produced another suspect for a case. Joze’s father was found innocent by those means, but the case remained ‘unsolved’, and their relationship with the Wright family dissolved. Instead of a charity, Wright Law Offices took it’s place, because the founder was mad that justice had never been served for their daughter. It wasn’t long after that when Joze was born, without high society backing her up. No fancy toys, nothing. She didn’t have much trouble with it, since she had been born into the circumstance. The same couldn’t be said for her brother, though. He had always associated her with the fact that she had marked the time of their fall from society. It wasn’t like she could actually help it, but her brother was her brother, stubborn and uptight and always right. Much like her, now that she thought of it. But when kids grow up, they generally don’t remember their early years, so after a while the both of them grew close. A little sibling rivalry and nagging here and there, but Joze had always been close to her brother, even when he had that era of hate towards her. Their bond only strengthened with the news of a new sister, a few years later. But, with three children to provide for, both parents found themselves much out of money and in the depths of debt. They were both working jobs, and found very little time to take care of their children. To top it off, they currently had a very angry, revenge-driven owner of Wright Law Offices suing their asses. The Mr. Wright had opened a law office because he had been so grief-ridden over how his daughter had never gotten justice because of an incompetent prosecutor and a too-trusting defense attorney. But at the same time, he hadn’t wanted to be an all-prosecutors office, since he understood the importance of having a good defense as well. It was a very, very bad time for the Atkins family, and Wright was not making it any easier for them. After all, who would actually enjoy being kicked out of the family and be in debt? Hell, even their worry got to their kids. Joze and her brother grew up worrying about money, and it led the two of them to apply for scholarship in the local (rather prestigious) high school. It was where they were originally supposed to go before their whole debacle of a life had occurred. If they got into there with a scholarship, it’d ensure that they’d get into at least a decent college. And with that, they might get a good, high-paying job to support the family. Her brother had always had the smarts of the family, Joze only following close behind because of the very late night tutor session her brother had always given her. Their sister wanted no part of it. Once scholarship time came, their family was practically torn apart from it. There was only one scholarship per grade level, so it would have been perfect if they had both gotten in, due to their one year grade difference. But no - this just had to happen. She got in, but her brother didn’t. It had been her brother’s second time, after getting rejected the first. Obviously fate just loved to toy with this unfortunate little family. At a time in which they had to stick together, they were torn apart. Joze wanted to lie and say that he was the brother she had looked up to - strong and accepting, who doted on his little sisters every day. Even after she insisted on dropping the scholarship and attending the local public school, he still didn’t let up his icy and cold demeanor to her. Odd thing was... he was obviously much smarter than her, so why didn’t he get in? But pride was a fickle thing and her brother didn’t let up, so she accepted. But the life of a scholarship student was nothing but work, work, work. And now that she didn’t have her brother’s help, she was not only lonely but utterly swamped with work and homework that she honestly just didn’t get without her brother’s simplified words that had helped her the years. And even with her busy schedule, she took up a job as a waitress in order to earn a little extra money for her family, as futile and tiny her wages were. |
