Living Situation Canis lived with his father, stepmother and stepbrother, a strained middle-class family with a somber past. Canis is still a student in middle school. However, despite managing to distract himself by wandering the city every day, Canis, as of May 12, 2012, ran away from home. 02. Appearance He’s a child with a round, child-like face, possessing still a bit of baby fat, much to his chagrin. With thin, curved lips and a button nose, his face might almost be described as angelic if not for a contrasting pair of eyes. Deep, murky hues that are the colour of dark chocolate seem to see right through everything as though they were transparent. Canis wears a perpetual mask of boredom and apathy, as though mesmerized by a slow, swinging pendulum. The only proof that he holds any expression lies behind bursts of emotion that bubble to the surface whenever he’s reminded of a certain person, in which he seems to fluctuate between pain and raw hatred. He stands at 5’5”, though it’s often downplayed by constant slouching. Recently, he seems content with throwing on any combination of clothes that he can find lying around, so he comes off as a bit sloppy. 03. Personality Canis is a young boy who maintains a well-crafted façade to keep his doubts and insecurities bottled up inside. An observant and intelligent boy who marches to his own beat and is unafraid to speak his mind, he’s the kind who often shoves the opinions of others under an ornamental rug and is done with it. Bellicose in speech and flippant in nature, it’s not hard for Canis to grate on somebody’s nerves, and vice versa. He can throw a biting verbal barb at a moment’s notice, seeking to utilize his wit in the worst way possible—and he enjoys it. This is an intricate barrier that he’s woven around himself, however. As of recent events, he’s plagued by low self-esteem and trust issues, reserved and timid around adults and other various authority figures—he hides his the fact that he is intimidated well by pulling the bratty half-pint card and bringing it to a new level. He’s afraid to reach out to people, and therefore retreats deeper into his shell whenever the opportunity presents itself. 04. History Canis grew up in a family of four, with a laid-back father, cheerful mother and his adorable little sister, Lisa. His father, Devon Minor, was a best-selling author who worked at his own pace. A tad bit irresponsible and more than a little lenient, the Minor family relied on Marina Minor to maintain a steady source of income and make up for their father’s languid ways with stern, just discipline. All the same, she was an affectionate and loving mother who taught her children well. It was on a bright, sunny day at the park where they were ushered to the car by their father, wearing an anguished expression on his face. Though the two were young, both Canis and his sister understood that something grave had taken place, for the drive to the hospital was a silent one. Their mother was shot at a bank robbery. She was an admirable woman, and the only one to stand up for what was right when nobody else could. She was brought to the hospital, but she didn’t survive. Her breathing had already come to a stop by the time her husband burst into the room. Canis didn’t cry at the funeral. His father wasn’t even present, and as he squeezed his sister’s moist hand, he took it upon himself to become the man of the family. He resolved to lock his tears away. To be there for his beloved sister when his father couldn’t. His father became a drunkard, and their home had long lost its warm, inviting atmosphere. Now it was only dark and hollow, possessing a great void that couldn’t be filled. His father couldn’t bring himself to acknowledge his two children—especially the younger sister—and spent most of his days out. He brought different women home at night, as if to erase the pain that lingered with his wife’s passing. Soon, Canis grew fed up with his father’s ways. He packed his school bag with a sweater, a change of underwear and a sandwich. The two of them escaped the house while their father was out. They ran. Canis didn’t know where he was taking his sister. He just knew he didn’t want to live at home anymore. Blinded by fury and his tears, he couldn’t see that his sister could no longer run. He couldn’t see stoplight blinking yellow. He didn’t see the car coming. The rest of his days to this day were lived in continuous monotony, wandering the city until late at night to stay away from his own home. His father had remarried, and now there was another child to keep his father and stepmother busy. He wasn't needed there. Now that his sister was gone, it didn't matter anyway. |
