LEADERSHIP
The leadership ranks indicate those who now are in charge of others, and are moving up the ranks. The majority of the members of the Impedio Society will never enter these ranks, instead remaining part of the general membership. It is considered relatively rare for someone born outside of the Impedio Society to achieve these ranks. They go in the following order: Consul > Praetor > Legatus > Praefectus Castorum
Consuls - The consuls form a triumvirate, and all decisions are passed through them. Consul members to be are chosen by the current consul, who trains them to one day take their place. When a consul officially retires or dies, the consul in training takes their place. Each consul has control over a third of the globe, and all Praetor's within the area report back to them.
Praetor - The Praetor of a given area could be considered the second in command, and they report directly to the consul. They balance the budget, oversee transfers between bases, and ensure that everything runs smoothly in all bases under their control. They have no single home office, but move between branches every few years.
Legatus - The legatus is the commander of a specific branch of the Impedio Society. Every main branch has it's own legatus, who oversees both the main base, and any smaller splinter bases around their own. They serve as the administrator of said branch, and report back to the praetor for their area.
Praefectus Castrorum - Commonly called 'prefects', members of this rank share an equal footing with the top rank of the general membership, the praefectus socium. The praefectus castrorum are best described as being 'in charge' of something, whether it be the head of the artifact vault in a large base, the master at arms, or the head of the trainees. In general, these ranks are not in the field, but instead more administrative in nature.
GENERAL MEMBERSHIP
The general membership makes up the bulk of the Impedio Societies membership. The majority of people will remain within these ranks their entire lives, and it is not considered unusual for someone to do so. They go in the following order: Praefectus Socium > Immunes > Discens > Millites
Praefectus Socium - Praefectus Socium are considered masters in their field, holding specialized skills that the average member of the society would not possess. What that field is doesn't matter--whether someone is an extremely specialized and skilled artifact researcher, or a top of the line monster hunter, they hold the same rank within the society. They have little training left to do, if anything, and most of their time is dedicated to their work. Their rank is equivalent to Praefectus Castrorum, but tends to indicate that the member is either unfit for, or has no interest in, leadership within the society.
Immunes - Immunes are full members within the society, having a firm understanding of their job. They will still receive specialized training, but the majority of their time is still spent working.
Discens - Discens could be considered specialized trainees. They have a firm understanding of everything that will be required of them, knowing the basics of everything and the secret histories, and are presently training in a specific field that will become their profession. They tend to be trained primarily by a praefectus castrorum, and then handed off to a praefectus socium or Immune, as personnel permits.
Millites - Millites is the first rank that most who enter the society are given, and indicates someone who is just learning the ways of the society. No matter how competent someone might be at fighting or another skill, if they lack the basics they'll be given this rank until they are considered 'up to par'. For those born within the society, this rank is generally graduated from at around the age of sixteen, at which point someone is considered mature enough to chose the path they wish to take.
