So, that didn't work.
Generally speaking, the first rule of thumb when you've stirred up a wasp nest was to get far, far away as quickly as you possibly can. It was a good, solid rule, and one Gabi used for just about everything, especially when she went and did something stupid and/or illegal. It was fine though; she was, like, 90% positive they were in the clear already. The guy in the fox suit had barely gotten a look at her, and since she had dashed through the crowd of people, she highly doubted he'd be able to pick her out again. They were in the clear!
The brunette let out a burst of laughter; all in a day's work! But still, that technically counted as a mission failure- they hadn't found Joan, and now with security all hyped up they probably couldn't go back in the food court for a while. Oh well, there were still plenty of other places to look. All hope wasn't lost just yet.
At first, Gabi didn't even notice Emmie had moved away from them, instead speaking to Hayden in her typical rush of words, "I think that was technically assault, do you think the fake mall cops are going to send me to fake mall jail for that? I wonder if they're going to put up wanted posters, that'd be fun. It's such short notice, I doubt they will, and that's such a shame-" She blinked just once in confusion at his remark, before finally realizing MnM wasn't there. Oh well that was just great, now they had to find MnM and Joan, talk about-
Oh never mind, she was just taking a break in the corner over there. Gabi bounded up to join the two of them, her eyes on the chaos she had left behind. "Yup it's cool, don't even worry about it." It hadn't even occurred to her that something might be wrong, never mind the fact that Emmie was practically in the fetal position. She rocked back on her heels, lower lip jutting out in a pout. "I thought for sure that would be Joan." This was turning out to be a lot harder than she had anticipated. They needed a detective to help crack this case.

Midas is king and he holds me so tight And turns me to gold in the sunlight And in the spring I shed my skin And it blows away with the changing wind The waters turn from blue to red As --- Hayden seemed concerned, but Emmeline took in a deep breath and tried to wave him off. It was bad enough that she was having an anxiety attack here in the mall—it had been months since her last public breakdown—but these people she was trying to see as friends were there, and one of them had been the cause of it. This Gabrielle. . . she was going to be hard to be around. She didn’t seem to think before she did anything.
“I just—one—moment,” she wheezed, turning away from both of them. She swallowed hard and tried to get a hold of her breathing, tried to stay on her feet no matter how much she wanted to sink to her knees and just scream. These urges were held at bay by grabbing at her hair and pulling gently—just enough to cause a bit of pain but not enough to pull her hair from their roots.
She was terrified. Just as terrified as if her life was being threatened. Emmeline wanted to leave. She wanted to run out of the mall into the fresh air outside, but that would get everyone’s attention, and would be terribly rude to these people she just met. Her heart was beating so hard she could feel it in her throat, and she willed those pills to act faster, she needed them to work. She needed them to calm her down for her.
Or maybe she just needed a paper bag.
While exhaling and trying to get control of herself, a strangled noise vibrated in her throat. Emmeline could hear Gabi talking, though, but her words made no sense. Had she honestly thought that the fox guy had been her mom? She couldn’t help the perplexed and helpless look she gave the other girl, wondering briefly if she was even all there.
There was no way that reasoning made any sense at all. This girl—she was crazy. Absolutely crazy. And now she was going to get into trouble because of it.
The more she thought about the whole situation—how much she hadn’t wanted to come to the mall, how pathetic and small she felt after losing her mom, the whole escapade with the mall mascot, the way she probably looked to anyone passing by, how nonchalant Gabi was and how concerned Hayden was acting—the worse she got. Emmeline closed her eyes tight and tried to remember what her therapist had said to do in this situation.
Calm down. This was normal—she’d gone through this a million times. She wasn’t going to get hurt, there was nothing wrong with her body. She was scared, yes, that was unavoidable. Emmeline matched her breathings with her heartbeat and kept her eyes closed. If something bad was going to happen, it was going to happen soon, and she just had to wait. Emmeline listened closely to everything around her—the commotion at the food court was winding down, no one had approached them, it was going to be okay.
Finally, with help from her medication, she managed to get her breathing under control. With a shaky hand she tried to put the pills back into her purse, but missed. They clattered to the floor, but she didn’t notice. She ran her fingers through her hair, over her forehead, rubbed her cheeks with both hands, and squeezed her head tightly.
It was getting better. She was still trembling, but she had her breathing back under control and she was standing straight. It was a start. Emmeline even managed a few words. “I—I need something—to drink.”

tagged: failtwin, craycray. time: May 8th 2012, 17:00 speech: hayden. notes: knight is posting after me! As soon as he had taked a good look at Emmie, Hayden knew that something was not right. He couldn't claim to be any sort of expert on mental illness or panic attacks, but this wasn't normal. He knew fear, he knew feeling socially awkward and anxious. He knew those feelings all too well, having been there so many times before, and they had never triggered a physical reaction in him. Gabi's cool response was met with a sideways glance from Hayden, and a look that read 'Please stop' passed between the two. He then turned back to Emmeline.
"I- I think we're okay now."
Was he supposed to touch her? Was he supposed to hold her hand, to reassure her that things were going to be all right? Because Hayden wasn't good at that. He didn't know how to comfort people when they were sad. Gabi always said that his being around was more than enough, but that was because she cared for him and was his best friend. How was he supposed to make a virtual stranger feel better just by existing? The brunette took a deep breath, watching as Emmeline closed her eyes, wishing, wanting to at least do something to make her feel okay. Just then, he heard a crashing noise. The bottle of pills that the girl was clenching fell out of her hand, and Hayden reached over to pick them up. Emmie looked like she was feeling better now-- at least somewhat, so it was probably okay to speak.
"Here. You dropped this," he said hesitantly, holding the bottle out for her to take from him. "We could go and get you some water from a food co-- I mean, a vending machine. I'm sure that there are plenty around here. Do you also want something to eat?" Would she want them to stay, or want them to go so she could be alone? He really wished Leon was there with them at this point. Leon would have known what to do: Leon knew everything.

She raised a brow at the look Hayden gave her. That was new. Leon gave her looks, but Hayden never, ever gave her looks. She didn't think she had done anything wrong, so what was the look for? She frowned slightly in irritation; she had always fancied herself all-knowing when it came to reading Hayden's nonverbal communication, but now it felt like she was trying to read her favorite book in a new language she just barely had a grasp of. He hadn't changed that much since moving to LA, had he?
Best not to dwell on it too much; she might hurt herself in her confusion. Obviously, she had fucked up somehow, so she backed off. Hayden was the living embodiment of a golden retriever puppy- if he couldn't make MnM feel better, no one could. Instead, Gabi kept an eye on the food court, juuust in case anyone came their way. She hadn't been lying though; things were settling back down. The brunette stuffed her hands into the pockets of her shorts, resting her weight on her heels as she waited for the pow-wow to end. Kids these days, honestly!
The clatter of the pills hitting the floor caught her attention, and Gabi glanced over in time to see Hayden bending down to pick them up. Oh, so that's why Hayden had given her that look. Emmie had been sick and she hadn't noticed. Woops. A twinge of something came and went like a passing breeze; it certainly wasn't guilt, because Gabrielle Alberts simply did not feel guilty about anything she ever did. She did catch the other girl's soft words though, asking for something to drink.
Oh good, something for her to do that'd get her out of this situation for a little while. "I'll go!" She volunteered loudly, her arm in the air like a kindergartner that knew the right answer. It was the least she could do after fucking up, right? Right! "You guys go find someplace to sit down, I'll be back in two shakes of a lamb's tail." She made sure to catch Hayden's eyes before she said, her tone serious for once, "Cross my heart, I won't do anything dumb this time. Promise." And she meant it; she couldn't lie to her best friend, not in a million years. If she told him she wasn't going to screw around, she wasn't.
And with that, she bounded away once again. Cue mission impossible theme.

She remembered putting it in her purse. . . ah well she probably had dropped it. Her face blushed slightly and she took the bottle from him and made sure to put it securely in her purse: everyone would be upset with her if she lost them, after all. There was only so much their insurance was going to pay for all of this medication.
“Thank you,” she murmured, her breathing finally returned to a normal pace. Her chest didn’t feel as tight, and she could no longer feel her heart pounding against her ribs. At least she knew the pills worked in a pinch like they were supposed to.
She shook her head and rubbed her fingers against her temple. “Um—no, just—just some water would be okay,” she murmured. Sometimes to get that pill aftertaste out of her mouth and to wet her throat. Getting all worked up like that always made her thirsty. Emmeline finally stood up from her half-crouched position, but she continued to tug at her hair. “Sorry—you had to see that. I’m—I’m feeling better now.”
Gabrielle offered to go get her something and Emmeline made herself smile—even though it was all Gabrielle’s fault, Emmeline couldn’t really blame her—a normal person might have thought that was exhilarating and a little silly, but Emmeline was not that. How could Gabrielle have known? “Thank you,” she called after her.
And she was trying to make it better, it seemed.
After tugging on her hair one more time, Emmeline forced her hand to sit down at her side and she dropped her gaze, shame-faced. “I’m sorry,” she said just barely loud enough for Hayden to hear as she walked dejectedly to a nearby bench. “I have—really bad, um, anxiety.” It was a pitiful excuse for her mental breakdown, but it was all she had to say. She probably looked really pathetic to them now.

Hayden could only give Gabi a nod in response as she stated that she wasn't going to do anything dumb. She'd definitely gone a little too far, and how had she not been able to sense that something had been terribly wrong? But then again, that was Gabi for you. She could be harsh, she could be insensitive, but Hayden was too soft and sensitive so they balanced each other out. It was just at times like this that Hayden couldn't help but wish that she was a little more aware of her actions.
Then again, if she was, she wouldn't have been the girl that he knew and loved. She wouldn't have had the courage to drag him from where he was and show him a world of wonder and mischief, of pranks and games and most of all friendship. No matter what she said or did, Gabi was his best friend, and nothing in the world was ever going to change that. But she wasn't his primary concern at the moment. All he could do was make sure that Emmeline was doing okay.
"She's gone to get water," Hayden said, trying to keep his tone as calm as possible. He really hoped that he was being reassuring-- it was difficult to stay calm when you had seen someone go into a panic attack like that. He could only wish that he knew what to do. He could only wish that he was capable and strong and all the things that people were supposed to be, but instead all he could do was sit by, wish and wonder, and talk. "Don't worry about it."
"It wasn't your fault."
Hayden knew that for a fact. There was nobody to blame, if you really thought about it. Gabi might have been silly, but she did things like that to Hayden all of the time. How was she supposed to know that Emmie wouldn't just react the same way Hayden normally did, which was to moan and then just try to get out of the way? "I- I'm sorry about that," he found himself adding on. "Gabi can be silly, but she's my best friend and I really care about her. She's just like a sister to me.."

Since this was a pretty big mall and people liked to spend money on food they weren't really hungry for, there were more places than the food court to buy drinks from. Sure, a vending machine would have been the easier option, but Gabi had never been one for taking the easier option. Besides, the food stand had caught her eye long before any vending machines had, so she made a beeline for it rather than pointlessly wandering around for who knows how long. For all intents and purposes, this was the easier option! Plus, those pretzels smelled really good...
Gabi bounced on the balls of her feet as she waited in line, gnawing on her bottom lip. Okay okay, hopefully things will have settled down by the time she got back to them. Despite what he might think, Hayden actually was pretty good at the whole comforting thing. Gabi? Not so much. She would have said something stupid to make the situation worse; it was far better for everyone if she removed herself from the equation.
Besides, she was helping! She was getting drinks and comfort food, that was helpful! She let out a huffy breath and ruffled her hair. Finding MnM's missing person was proving to be a lot harder than she initially thought- still, despite all the dumb stuff like mall security and dudes in furry suits, it had been kinda fun. Finally placing her order and grabbing the armful of food and drinks, Gabi carefully made her way back to where she left the two princesses. They had to be around here some-
Ah, there they were! Gabi bounded up to them, loudly proclaiming, "I return bearing gifts!" She sat down on the bench next to MnM, holding everything in her lap as she handed all the crap she had bought to them. "Water for MnM, Mountain Dew for Hayhay, aaand Coke for me." She placed her own drink to one side, before continuing to say all too cheerily, "I also got a bunch of pretzels and cookies, help yourself." Without further ado she picked one of the soft pretzels and began to pick pieces of it apart and pop them into her mouth. Food made everything better, in her experience, but if Emmie wasn't hungry she knew for a fact that she and Hayden could eat most of, if not all, of the food here. #heckyeah
She waited until she didn't have a full mouth before she finally asked, a little tentatively, "Sooo, how goes it?" Emmie looked better, but it didn't hurt to ask just in case, right? Was she reopening the can of worms anew? She shoved another large chunk of pretzel in her mouth so she couldn't ask or say anything else stupid for a little while. Yeah, food made everything better, it was a fact of life forever.

Midas is king and he holds me so tight And turns me to gold in the sunlight And in the spring I shed my skin And it blows away with the changing wind The waters turn from blue to red As --- Emmeline quickly shook her head, afraid that Hayden thought she didn’t like Gabrielle. The last thing Emmeline wanted was for anyone to think she was mad at them—she wasn’t! It wasn’t their fault she was a big sad lump of skin and bone. They couldn’t have known such antics would throw her into an anxiety attack. “No—no I didn’t mean—I get—anxiety real—real easy in public and—it’s not her fault,” she said quickly. Sure, for a couple brief seconds she was probably a little upset, but Emmeline didn’t stay mad at people too long.
After all, people didn’t like people that were mad at them. Except maybe Emmeline—that usually made her go into super-friend mode to make them not mad at her anymore.
Confusion swept over Emmeline for a second when a girl bounded up to them bearing snacks and drinks for everyone. Emmeline stared at her, dumbfounded, for a few seconds before she came to her senses and realized it was probably Gabrielle, returning from her drink expedition. The confusion faded from her expression and she managed a tiny little smile.
“Th-thank you, Gabrielle. S-sorry I kind of. . . um, freaked out,” she murmured, taking the water her new companion had brought over for her. She took a few tiny sips, afraid of what they might think of her if she were just guzzle it down. Emmeline was a little surprised that Gabrielle had brought a bunch of snacks, too, and though she wasn’t a fan of eating in front of others, she didn’t want Gabrielle to think she was unappreciative, so she took a little cookie and nibbled at it.
Then, it just kind of sat in her hand.
She looked up from another reserved sip of water and tried to look reassuring. “I—I feel alright now. I was—um, just telling, um, Hayden that—I just get—real bad anxiety sometimes so, um, it’s not your fault,” she managed, keeping her eyes down on the slightly-nibbled cookie.

tagged: failtwin, craycray. time: May 8th 2012, 17:00 speech: hayden. notes: knight is posting after me! Hayden didn't quite know how to react to Emmie's statement that it wasn't Gabi's fault. On one hand, Emmeline was right-- Gabi had no way of knowing that she was going to react in that manner. At the same time, they could have gotten into real trouble, though statistics had proven that the two of them were extremely adept at wriggling their ways out of it. Hayden had gotten so good at evading mall police, he was quite sure that he would be able to pull a robbery off if he decided he needed to. Not that he would be in need of the money, though, he certainly hoped not!
Either way, he wasn't going to dwell too much on it. The past was the past, right? Besides, if Emmie was okay, and Gabi was okay, he would be okay too. That was what friends were for. He knew he thought this almost every single day, but he was certain that he would be lost without Gabi's friendship. If they hadn't sat near each other that fateful day, he was quite sure that he would be a very, very different person, and probably a lot less happy.
"Gabi's a really nice person," he reiterated. "She's done a lot for me." Wait, he'd said all of that already, but he wanted to assure Emmie that Gabi didn't have any evil intentions. Slightly cheeky, yes, but not malicious in the slightest. "And you're right, she didn't want to hurt anyone." It was then when his friend came back bearing food and drinks, and Hayden practically jumped at her at the sight of his favourite soda.
"Mountain Dew! Thanks a ton, Gabi," he said, his face lighting up. Hayden grabbed one of the pretzels, and started to chew on it. "Umm bum mm hurr durr," he said, meaning this is really good through mouthfuls. His sister would not have approved of his speaking with his mouth full, but he'd done a lot of things that she wouldn't have approved of as of late. And the more he thought about it, the less he really cared. Emmie went on to tell Gabi that this wasn't her fault, and Hayden nodded. "Mm," he said, in lieu of his ability to actually say "yes" at that point in time.

The look on Hayden's face when she handed him his favorite drink was the cutest darn thing on the face of the planet. "No problem." She replied with a grin, munching away on her pretzel significantly happier. Things were fine between them, she had just been paranoid. As Hayden grabbed a pretzel and Emmie helped herself a cookie, Gabi mentally patted herself on the back for a job well done. Everything was totally fine- other than the fact that MnM still hadn't found her Missing Person, but whatever!
"It's cool!" The brunette replied to the other girl's apology, flapping a hand at her as if to wave away her words. She grinned, saying almost sheepishly, "I forget sometimes that not everyone's used to my stupid like Hayden is." And it was undeniably true, sadly; strangers just didn't know how to deal with Gabrielle when she went off doing her own thing. It was enough to make the most patient of people exasperated, but lucky for her Hayden was a saint when it came to patience. And as for her other best friend, well, she was something of a social experiment to him.
Once the pretzel was gone, Gabi began helping herself to a cookie, eyes trained on Emmie as she stammered over her words. Oh, anxiety, okay. She had read a couple of posts and articles on the interwebs about social anxiety, but she had never actually met someone with it before. "Ah, gotcha." She replied with a nod, biting into her cookie like it was the first meal she had had in days. She smiled wide as she continued, "I'll try not to do anything else really dumb for the rest of the day!"
(Try being the keyword here.)
She finished the rest of her cookie in two quick bites, before starting on yet another pretzel. As she chewed away on the soft snack, Gabi remarked, "We still have to find Karen though." So far, they hadn't seen anyone matching MnM's description, and surely by now the woman must have noticed her sister was missing. Who came to the mall with someone and then lost them like that? Oh. Wait. Gabi. Right. Taking another bite out of her pretzel, she turned to Emmie, asking, "Where should we look next do you think? Were there any stores in particular that she mentioned she was going to visit today?" Never fear, detective Alberts was on the case!

Emmeline chewed thoughtfully on another tiny little bite of cookie, trying to remember where all they had gone so far. They hadn’t gotten much shopping done, just a few clothing stores, so maybe she’d been heading for a place to buy furniture and decorations? That was all she could think of. Emmeline hadn’t really been paying attention and was just letting her mom lead her around wherever.
She had other things to think about. Like whether or not that person glancing at her thought badly toward her.
Or if she should cut her hair like that lady to be more accepted.
Or where her mom was.
Emmeline glanced up. “Well, we might have been heading over—” She was interrupted by a loud crackle in the mall. It startled her into silence and she glanced around wildly, as if expecting something to come crashing down on her, much like someone with a guilty conscience, but she had nothing to be guilty of. After a voice came booming over the speaker system, she realized it was just the mall people talking.
“Would one Emmeline Evans please come to the information booth? Your party is waiting for you. Again, Emmeline Evans, your party is waiting for you at the information booth,” it announced. A loud crackle told everyone the intercom was now off.
Even though there was no way anyone could know she was Emmeline, she felt like everyone was now looking at her.
Well, now she knew where her mom was.
“That—um—must be her,” she murmured, fidgeting uncomfortably. She still felt like she could feel everyone’s eyes on her, wondering silly questions like if she’d gotten lost, or if she’d tried to ditch her “party” or whatever. “I don’t—have anyone else looking for me. . . .”

Hayden was too preoccupied by the extremely delicious pretzel he was eating to make too much more sense of the situation. For a moment, it seemed like everything was all right-- he was with friends, he was eating, and Emmie seemed to be okay. He shot her a smile just to make sure that she was feeling all right. Yes, Emmie was a friend as well. He had no reason to not think of her as one, and after what they'd been through together, he was pretty sure that she counted. Luckily, there was Gabi ready to bring him back to the real world.
"Y- yeah," he begun, mouth half full of pretzel. "We should probably start heading towards where you last remember seeing he--" His voice was however cut off by the loud, booming sound of the PA system. Hayden practically jumped as Emmeline Evans was asked to go to the information booth, and if he had been in a cartoon, he would have leapt up and saluted. "Emmie, that's you!" he exclaimed, turning towards her. Almost immediately, he scrambled up from where he was sitting, beckoning for the two girls to follow.
"We should go quickly so that Emmie's sister doesn't worry," he said, half-eaten pretzel in one hand and Mountain Dew in another. "Emmie, I think we may have found Joan!"

Before Emmie could finish speaking, the PA system crackled to life, causing Gabi to jump in surprise as well. One Emmeline Evans... oh, wait a minute, wasn't this exactly what they had been trying to avoid? She winced as she remarked, speaking to the blonde, "Woops, I guess we weren't fast enough." A beaming grin lit up her face, however, as she said, cheerfully, "But hey, we found your sister!" Well, kinda! Technically, it was more like Dawn had found them, but that was a detail we weren't going to bring up or mention right now.
For now, they had important business to attend to; the search and rescue had turned into an escort mission! Now, usually, Gabi hated escort missions with the fiery passion of a thousand burning suns, but this was different- for one thing, she had Hayden with her, and for another, she didn't anticipate any enemy warriors to continuously attack them to try and cause them to fail the mission. No, this was going to be smooth sailing from here on out... they just had to find their way to the information booth and they'd be in the clear!
"Let's get this show on the road!" Gabi got to her feet, stuffing the rest of the cookies and pretzels into her bag for later. Finishing off the last of her pretzel in one last, big bite, she mumbled around her full mouth of food, "I thbink thee infurmashion boothb is thbat way." She pointed to the right, not actually knowing which direction the information booth was in at all. She didn't have a clue, but like that was going to stop her from trying to be helpful! Yeah! Because that was Gabi for you, always looking to help out and lend a hand! Never mind the fact that checking a map would have probably been the helpful thing to do, but whatever! Whatever!
She tried and that was all that mattered!

She should have known her mom would have gone straight to the information table and told them to call for her. However, she was glad that whatever protocol they had in place told them not to tell them who was looking for her or waiting for her, just that she needed to come up. Otherwise, the whole thing would have been ruined and these two nice people would have found out she had lost her mommy like some two-year-old.
Oh wait.
They’d figure that out when they got there.
She suddenly wanted to protest, to tell them that they could wait a little while longer before going up there, or that she could find it herself and that they needed to come with her but. . . . Well she just couldn’t. They looked so eager to help her and they’d been so nice, so she didn’t want to just tell them to get lost now that she didn’t need them.
And she didn’t know where the information booth was. She’d just get more lost. If she did get lost, she’d never be able to work up the nerve to ask some random shopper for help finding the stupid thing. Maybe a map. Malls usually had maps, right?
Nope, too late. Gabrielle was already on her feet, food packed away, and read to go. Emmeline nodded and got to her feet as well, though she was feeling totally paranoid and nervous. What where they going to think when they found out her missing person was her mom? They’d probably think she was pathetic and stupid. That she was just a little baby that couldn’t do anything on her own. It was horrible enough to make her feel like crying.
No, no she couldn’t cry. This was supposed to be happy.
“Okay. Um, thanks for helping me look. Um—and, dealing with me,” she murmured a little early. They weren’t saying good-bye yet. She’d probably apologize a bazillion times when they got there, too. Obediently, she followed in the direction that Gabrielle had indicated, glad that she was going to find her mom, but terrified at what would happen when they met up with her.

tagged: failtwin, craycray. time: May 8th 2012, 17:00 speech: hayden. notes: knight is posting after me! Hadn't she not wanted her sister to announce her name over the PA system? Hayden glanced at Emmie, then back to Gabi, then back to Emmie again. It almost seemed like she was about to cry: her voice was shaky and she was tugging nervously at her hair. "It's okay," Hayden said, trying his best to sound as kindly as possible. He smiled a little, hoping that he didn't sound as worried as he felt. It was probably the last thing that Emmie needed at a time like this. "You're going to be all right. You'll be safe and sound." With that, he took the last bite of his pretzel, finishing it in as ungraceful a motion as Gabi had. And then they were off, Hayden trailing after his best friend, though he took a moment to wait for Emmie to follow.
"Don't worry about it. We're here to help, okay? Isn't that what friends are for?" Hayden asked when Emmie suddenly apologized. There was really nothing to apologize for, not at all. Somehow, the thought that she might not want the two of them to follow didn't cross his mind-- she had seemed so scared and alone that Hayden would have felt awful leaving her to go and find her sister herself. The three of them were trotting towards the information desk now, quickly nearing where the girl's sister would be waiting. Sure, Hayden knew nothing about her, and vice versa, but he would have to be lying to say that he hadn't already developed some sort of attachment.
"It's no problem at all. Trust me."

You would think after this little misadventure, the two of them would have thought to double check that the direction Gabi had pointed out was actually the correct one. Hayden and Emmie were a regular Sherlock and Watson pair, that much was obvious. Geniuses, the two of them. Gabi decided not to mention she didn't actually know if this was the right way to the information desk or not; she'd just wait and see where this would take them. It'd be interesting at the very least, right? Worst came to worst she was wrong and they'd have to walk all the way across the mall again in order to reach their destination. In the meantime, they were on a journey through unknown territory! It'd be fun! For her at least!
"No problem~" Gabi replied in sing-song, taking out a cookie to munch on as they walked. This stuff was hard work, alright? At least there was still no sign of any enemy ninjas trying to kill them while escorting MnM to the desk. "I'm just glad we didn't die along the way or anything, that would have sucked. Hey, can I see your phone really quick?" She suddenly asked Emmie, crossing her fingers that she looked entirely innocent as she turned to face the other girl. "I want to see if you finally got any reception in here or not."
((CRAY YOUR CALL IF THEY'RE ACTUALLY GOING TO REACH THE DESK OR NOT LMAO.))

Midas is king and he holds me so tight And turns me to gold in the sunlight And in the spring I shed my skin And it blows away with the changing wind The waters turn from blue to red As --- Well, at least these two were totally understanding. She’d been so afraid that they’d think of her as nothing more than a big bother. Emmeline had no idea why they’d been at the mall before or if they’d dropped everything to help her feel better and escort her around the mall like her own personal entourage. It made her feel bad, but—at the same time. . . she was glad.
They—or at least Hayden—thought of her as a friend.
Gabrielle asked for her phone and Emmeline gave her a little head tilt, but didn’t argue. “Um—yeah, sure, I suppose so. Um—though, she would have, tried to call me I think. . . probably.” Oh well. Emmeline fished in her back pocket, forgetting that she wasn’t supposed to have a phone, and pulled it out. It wasn’t the newest model, but it was still a decent smart-phone with a case that had a kitty face on the backside.
She handed it over willingly enough, assuming Gabrielle didn’t have any sort of nefarious plots with her phone. What would be the point of that?
“Um—are—are you sure this the right direction?” she asked after they had walked for what seemed to be forever. The mall was huge, and it had been some time since she had last visited the mall so the layout was completely foreign to her, but she assumed that they should have reached it already? Maybe? “Or—is, um, this mall like—just um, one giant circle and we’ll. . . get there eventually?”
Emmeline didn’t want to seem like she was in a hurry, but she knew that the more time she took the more likely her mother would start having her own little panic attack and maybe have them call her over the intercom like fifteen bajillion more times.
And it certainly wasn’t unlikely that her mom would give security a picture of her and make them go scour the mall for her like she was some six year old that had wandered off. Oh god that would be even more embarrassing, being escorted around by mall security. That probably would kill her. Or, maybe if that happened Gabrielle could show her some how-to-avoid-mall-security moves.

tagged: failtwin, craycray. time: May 8th 2012, 17:00 speech: hayden. notes: knight is posting after me! "Well, the mall is kind of shaped like a circle," Hayden said, though his voice wasn't devoid of a certain insecurity. Come to think of it, he wasn't sure whether it was a good idea to trust Gabi. Then again, when did he not trust Gabi, even when he was completely certain that this was the worst possible idea? "We're bound to get there if we keep walking around."
He didn't know what nefarious plots Gabi might have been hatching up with Emmie's phone, though. So he glanced over at her as Emmie passed her phone over, leaning down to whisper in her ear. "You might not want to mess with that," Hayden said. "Phones are expensive." Okay, rich coming from him because of his family situation-- oh dear, that had been an awful accidental pun. Hayden groaned inwardly.
"Never mind, I accidentally punned in my head," he said, turning to Gabi sheepishly. But they were going ahead now, proceeding towards where he hoped was the information counter. "I think we'll be okay, though-- wait," he suddenly said, stopping in his tracks as he glanced to the right.
"Is that a mall directory?" Hayden asked. "Hey, I think it is!" he said, rushing up to read it. "Information counter, information counter..."

"Thank you!" Gabi beamed as Emmie handed over her phone. Emmie what the hell. The brunette sighed inwardly and shook her head. Between Emmie and Hayden, it was like she was the only one here who believed people had ulterior motives. The two of them needed a crash course on stranger danger. But enough with that, she had more important things to do. "What a cute case." She cooed as she took the phone and opened it to the main screen. She waved Hayden away as he leaned over to whisper in her ear, butting himself into her business like he was her nanny or something. Please, as if. That job was already occupied by one Leon Everett. "Quiet, you." She mumbled in return, elbowing him lightly in the side.
Quickly, before Emmie noticed, she typed in her phone number, and let the call ring once before hanging up. All in all, it took her less than 5 seconds. She grinned evilly to herself, before handing the phone back to Emmie with a cheerful smile. "Here you go! Yeah, we're finally getting service in here." As they continued walking, Gabi took her own phone out, and beamed at the one missed call flashing on her screen. There, now she had MnM's number! Of course, it would have been far easier (and nicer) to just ask for it, but as we've established by now, Gabi wasn't exactly a nice person. This had been a fun little excursion, and she sincerely didn't want this to be the last time they got to see MnM.
Speaking of which, the blonde was asking her something. Ah, the jig was up. Gabi put her phone away, as she replied happily, "Nope!" Honestly, the two of them should have figured it out by now: they couldn't trust her to do much of anything without purposefully botching it up. It was like she went out of her way to make everyone's' lives more difficult. You're welcome, everyone. Hayden was saying something about a directory, though, so it didn't look like they were as screwed as they thought. The brunette followed behind them, perfectly happy to just watch and see what would happen next. After all, they knew where to go now; it wasn't a search and rescue mission anymore. They only had to find the destination, and that was easy enough. What were a few added obstacles, right? "So are we going to have to walk back across the mall or what?" Entirely her fault, yes, she'll take credit for it.

Midas is king and he holds me so tight And turns me to gold in the sunlight And in the spring I shed my skin And it blows away with the changing wind The waters turn from blue to red As --- Emmeline watched curiously as Gabrielle fiddled with her phone, wondering what she was doing on it. At least she’d done the nice thing and put in her silly little phone pattern ahead of time—she usually forgot to do that when someone asked to see her phone. It only took a few seconds, and then Gabi handed it back to her.
“Oh? We do? Well that’s good. Maybe she gave up on calling me a while ago, then,” Emmeline mused looking at her phone. Everything seemed the same at a glance, so Gabrielle might have just been looking at what kind of phone she had. Mentally Emmeline shrugged it off and put the phone back in her pocket. At least if they couldn’t find the information booth she would be able to call her mom and tell her that she was on the way.
That she was with friends.
They found a directory, though, and Emmeline walked a little faster to keep up with Hayden. She joined him at his side, keeping a respectable distance between them so she didn’t crowd him, and leaned forward to take a look, running her index finger down the front, looking at the key.
“Um—here?” she said, pointing at a little marking. The map legend said it was. She traced her finger back to the “you are here” thingy and tapped the map. It would have been easier if they’d started off the other direction, but the mall was a big circle shape so it wasn’t like they’d have to turn back. “I think—I think we can keep going this way? It’s just a little longer. . . I guess. Walking is good for your health anyway, they say.”
