Living Situation Leila works as a car mechanic in her own shop. It's a bit out of the way, but her prices are fantastic! Being a mechanic typically means that she has a sufficient source of income, but most of her money goes to assisting family and friends in need. Therefore she lives in a studio apartment with very little furniture. She can't complain since she's got food to eat every night and a home to go to each day, but things could definitely stand to be a bit more "luxurious". 02. Personality Growing up in a family of men, Leila learned how to get along with people to "keep the noise down". Typically when Leila isn't working one can find her out and about; the bars aren't really her thing, but she does visit from time to time. It was a social thing, really. Leila just enjoyed being around people, despite choosing an occupation that required little to no interaction with others. This is likely why she feels the need to immerse herself with people. Friends? Family? You're going to see Leila fairly often. Despite being the social person that she is, Leila has a tendency to be a bit...well, blunt. Both of her brothers are your stereotypical men that aren't very good at putting things subtly. Therefore, in a home full of testosterone, Leila has found herself cutting straight to the point about things. She knows how to ease into a situation, but it does no good when her approach takes a different stance altogether. Why bother building things up with small talk anyway? Just hit the high points from the get go! Leila's father, Richard, taught Leila the importance of giving to others. Not having an abundance of money allowed him to learn about the finer things in life - making others happy. The kids never did without, but Richard was always giving to those who were more needy than he and his family. Sometimes that meant the dollar menu instead of Chinese like the rest of his kids, but he always put others first. Leila has taken after her father a lot, and being the allocentric woman that she is, Leila tends to assist others in need. It was a Christian principle that she always felt the need to uphold, and her faith was pretty important to her. Though that wasn't always the case. Being a teenage girl growing up in some of the shadier areas of Los Angeles wasn't always easy, and at times Leila would find herself in the streets or associating with some rather suspicious characters. Most of her street smarts came from getting into trouble and relying on Dad to bail her out. She was never knocked up, like many teenagers, but she did get involved with marijuana at some point. It only took a few times of using before she experienced an irrational sense of paranoia and fear. She had lost her head temporarily, not realizing exactly where she was, and thought that someone was out to get her. She ended up disoriented and banging on her back door only to be answered by her father, and since then she has never touched anything ever again. Before accepting just anything, Leila will try to examine it from another point of view. In her eyes it's always best to stop and think about things before swallowing what you're being told. It's made her skeptical, which Leila feels is a good thing to be. Some people might find it a bit off-putting, sure, but instead of blindly believing everything that you're told it's good to do your own digging and fact searching. Her typical reaction to hearing something "not so believable" is a raised eyebrow (which looks awfully funny since both eyebrows actually move). When a wrench is what she needs, Leila has the worst time finding it. Her workshop is littered with tools lying on the ground and batteries strewn about. At one point the young car mechanic read an article about a positive correlation between being disorganized and being a genius. Turns out the magazine was sued shortly after. But her lack of organizational skills causes her only minimal stress, and if she ever needs to find something...well, it will eventually turn up. Hopefully. Though she grew up to become the "mom" of the home, Leila still retains her youthful nature, which probably has something to do with the maturity level of her siblings. She still enjoys going to parties and going out to lunch with "the girls" but that's not to say that she can't put on her big girl face when problems come about. Her youthful demeanor comes into play when things aren't so serious - you only live once, right? Might as well make the best of it while you're young and can do all of the things you want. Do not. I repeat - DO NOT test Leila's limits. It depends on the day, really, but most of the time she's quite impatient with others. This is probably the only reason she tends to work alone. Not having to go behind other people who don't do their job correctly sets a fire under Leila, and that is something people typically don't like to do. No she will not cut you. No she will not shoot you. But look out for flying wrenches - where does she keep those anyway? Probably best not to ask... 03. History Leila was the youngest of three children to Richard and Melinda Davenport. As Leila was born, Melinda lost her life due to severe complications. Thankfully, as Richard would put it, God was looking out for them. Leila came out unscathed, which was a miracle itself. Her birth had a negative impact on her oldest brother, Logan. He was only five when he lost his mother, but she was his world, and everything revolved around her. It was only until he turned 13 did he finally realize that Leila had no way of keeping her mother alive. The close-knit family grew up in an average-sized home in the suburbs of Los Angeles. Richard worked as a car mechanic with a big corporation to support the family, which didn't always come with the best hours or the best pay. Leila grew up playing football with her brothers, the oldest making it a point to tackle her the hardest. She still had fun and never really recognized the ill feelings toward her due to their age difference. On rare occasion Richard would come outside and play with them, but due to his demanding job he didn't typically have the time. When they weren't with Richard they stayed with either his or Melinda's parents, which both were fantastic families to be a part of. When Leila was 8 she and her older brother Anthony (who preferred to be called Tony) were with her Dad when they spotted a terrible wreck just outside of their subdivision. Richard pulled his vehicle in, assessed the damage, and stayed with both people until the ambulances arrived. After the ambulance arrived Richard stayed to make sure they were going to be fine. He got the contact information and called them the next day to check up on them. At some point during all of this he sent out get-well soon cards and offered to repair both vehicles at no charge. Seeing her Dad go through all of this just to help out two people he didn't know made her think about things in her life (well as much as an 8 year old could). Richard explained to her the importance of helping others and taking care of those less fortunate than themselves, even if it meant going without something. Since then Leila tried to follow in her father's footsteps (although it didn't always end up that way). During her teenage years she got involved with marijuana. Some of the people she would hang out with in high school starting using and somehow managed to coax her into trying it. She was hooked, but it didn't take but one night of extreme paranoia and confusion to wake up. Her father, of course, had a little something to do with that night, especially when it was her own back door that she was beating down in her state of disorientation. All it took was a week of preaching, educating, and a little bit of divine intervention before Leila put it down for good. When she graduated from high school she immediately enrolled in a vocational program for auto repair. Following in her footsteps made her father proud as neither of her brothers had made any effort at going to college. Instead, they settled for smaller pay and more stress. Leila wanted better for herself, and the only way to do that was to get more education and training in an area that she found interesting - mechanics. In about three years Leila finished school and began working for a different corporation, much smaller than the one her father worked at. She gained valuable experience over the years and ended up opening her own shop. It wasn't in the best of places but at least she was able to lower her prices and attract more customers. Her grades were never fantastic, but her teachers always told Richard that she was a pleasure to have. She paid attention and turned her work in on time. Why? Because it was the right thing to do. She wanted to do well and get an education, and to do that she would need to focus in class and put forth her best effort. She studied but still could not come out of a class with anything higher than a low B. She had many friends in high school, some good and some not so good, but she got along with most anyone. The majority of her friends ended up being boys, and due to her tomboyish nature she was also subjected to being labeled a "butch". In reality she just never found any of them suitable enough to be her boyfriend. The few relationships she did have were short-lived, but she still hopes to one day find the right man for her. Now Leila currently is still doing her own thing. She owns and operates her own car mechanic shop (with the help of an assistant to deal with paperwork - no one likes paperwork) and makes enough money to stick back some and to help out others. Overall she is mostly satisfied with life and just likes to take it one day at a time. The beauty of owning her own shop has amazing benefits; if she wants to take a day off, she can! But if the cars don't keep coming she'll have to close down. With her reasonable prices, though, there should be no reason for a change to come up.
