alec matthews Open May 16, 11:00 am It seemed like so long ago when Alec was drug into this whirlwind of chaos, confusion, and nothing but misery. The once optimistic kid who always had the goofy smile plastered on his face was long gone, replaced by an older, more mature young man. Not to mention he was much more guarded now. Somewhat bitter. Maybe even a little paranoid. Who could blame the guy? All he could do was to try and get away from life as he knew it and focus on what really mattered. To Alec, it was the role he was given. The insight on things that once were. Kingdoms...wars...strange monsters and people with weird powers...yeah not something he looked forward to, but he accepted that he was part of it. There was nothing he could do about that.
To clear his mind a little, he took a trip to the Kyoto Grand Rooftop Garden. Friends had told him about this place and how beautiful it was, but he had never experienced it himself. It was an absolutely beautiful place, which made Alec feel even more awkward because he stood out. He was wearing a long-sleeved solid black t-shirt with black, faded jeans. Everything and everyone else around him seemed to be wearing brighter colors while he was in all black. His hair hadn't been brushed this morning and the bags under his eyes almost matched his shirt. To anyone else, he might have been a stressed, exhausted college student who had just finished with final exams. Oh how Alec only wished that was the case.
Alec had just arrived but already he felt like he didn't belong there. He felt as though he were tarnishing the beauty of this place. The once sacred gardens had been tainted by him. I'm probably just depressed as hell, too. Yeah that was probably all. Later he would be going job hunting to try and occupy his time, but for now he simply wanted to enjoy the peace of this place. He found a bench near a small spring and turned to sit down, yanking his pants up over his boxers to make sure he wasn't flashing everyone around him. He had forgotten his belt, too.
Today just wasn't his day.

And it was calming. Even the quiet din of people talking to each other couldn’t bother her. It was one of those rare moments where Hana got to go out. The ankle bracelet hidden by her boots chafed slightly as she walked and was heavy, but she had since gotten used to the weight, and socks helped to keep it from chafing too badly. It was the only way she get out by herself, unattended by guards.
Guards would have been better than nothing, as well, but at least she was trusted this much on her own, even if not completely.
Her little bunny’s head peaked out from the big purse she carried and she occasionally glanced toward it to make sure it didn’t fall out. Every once in a while she even stop walking to adjust it and make sure it was secure in her bag. Somehow she had managed not to lose thus far, and she wasn’t about to start losing it anytime soon.
Hana stopped and looked for a place to sit. She had walked all the way here from headquarters—though a few buses between, perhaps—and was ready to have a sit and just relax. There weren’t as many benches as she had first assumed and sighed. She was going to have to share with someone. Maybe they wouldn’t mind. She walked around a little while longer until she spotted a bench with only one person on it. He looked real down.
Strange, but she wasn’t exactly the peppiest person on the rooftop, either. Maybe he was here to clear his mind and relax, too. She approached him slowly and stopped at a polite distance away. “Excuse me, do you mind if I sit here?” she asked, holding her purse strap with both hands. She pulled it close to her body, as if trying to hide the cute little bunny from sight.

alec matthews Whoever or whatever these cosmic forces were surrounding Alec, they sure seemed to know how to insert him into some awkward situations. Today would be no exception. When Alec heard the voice of what sounded like a young lady, he turned and made eye contact with her...one eye? That wasn't something you see everyday. After all that the kid had seen, Alec had no interest or desire to continue gawking at her red eye. And her eyepatch. For whatever reason, she had decided to cover it up, and that was perfectly alright. Not wanting to be rude, Alec nodded and awkwardly slid over to one side, allowing room for the other...lady? How old was she anyway? It felt weird calling her lady because she looked no more than a few years older than him. That wasn't what was important anyway.
What did stand out to Alec was that she looked very...dark. Dark clothing, black hair, and a red eye with one eyepatch. Yeah she pretty much looked like she stepped out of a cave that she was being held up in for the past 20 years of her life. Her skin complexion looked pretty pale also. For a fleeting moment, Alec smiled and thought about how the two looked sitting amidst the beautiful garden looking like zombified humans. He quickly dismissed the thought, not wanting her to think that he was laughing or smiling at her. Instead of just sitting there, he attempted to make conversation with the young woman.
"What brings you here?" It was a simple question, but it would open up the floor to actually talk. Alec really needed to talk. It was the only thing that could get him to stop feeling sorry for himself and to start thinking about other things. Too much had been going on lately for him to feel anything but normal, so it was natural to try and talk about things so that he could stop thinking so much. That was his problem. Thinking too much and not enough doing. And thinking about all of this was starting to make his head hurt. He stopped thinking, or at least tried his best to, and looked around at the gardens around him, trying to keep his mind occupied.

Hana wasn’t sure what she would have done if he had denied her the ability to sit on the public bench that had plenty of room on it anyway, but she definitely wouldn’t have argued. Probably just wondered off to find a corner to sit in. The bench was definitely the lesser of two evils.
"Thank you," she murmured, bowing slightly.
He even slid over to one side so she could sit and Hana set down her bag before sitting on the edge of the bench, trying to give this boy enough room to feel comfortable. Inwardly she was quite glad he hadn’t gawked at her eye like most people did, even though she was quite used to it already. Every once in a while it was still refreshing to know that someone had manners out there and knew not to stare. The fun ones were children.
They always wanted to know why.
She leaned forward and took her bottle of water out from her bag and took a few generous gulps. Like usual, she couldn’t see the kid because he was on her blind side, but at least that meant she couldn’t see if he was looking at her strangely.
While screwing the cap back on to her bottle, the kid next to her decided to strike up a conversation. Hana wasn’t one to ignore such attempts, so she turned slightly so she could at least make a little bit of eye contact with the one who was trying to be friendly. At least they wouldn’t be sitting in awkward silence—that was the thing about being so close to strangers: the silence.
Hana put the bottle back in her bag before responding. “I don’t get to go out often, so when I do I like to make it count. Coming here to see the flowers and plants seemed like the best way to spend my down time,” she explained. Her tone was a little muted, but she wasn’t trying to be unfriendly in the least.
“You?” she asked, tilting her head ever so slightly.

alec matthews Alec did his best not to look at her eyepatch when she turned and spoke to him. It wasn't that difficult, but he was curious as to why she was wearing it. But the fact that she was donning something out of the ordinary didn't bother him a bit. She just looked so...dark. But when she spoke, Alec could have sworn he felt a little warmth in her voice. A very little. Maybe she wasn't really cold as ice. That would be nice, because this kid just needed someone to talk to. No, he wasn't the kind to pour out all of his problems and worries on someone else, but a good conversation would at least perk him up for the time being.
It honestly shocked Alec a little when he heard her talking about wanting to be outside. She seemed like the type who wanted to stay indoors all the time. Partly because she looked like she was dressed like a vampire and the other part was her pale complexion. But being surprised here lately was becoming the norm. Then again, it seemed like when he had things figured out he was completely wrong. Typical. "Just...needed to get away from it all. Too much going on. Figured the flowers might help." Breaking eye contact, Alec leaned forward and set his elbows on his knees, holding his head in his hands. His blank gaze clearly said that he had a lot on his mind where his short tone said that he just needed to get it off his chest. But he wouldn't intrude. No, that wasn't what she was here for. she wanted to get out and see the sights, not listen to some emotional teenager with too many problems.
"Seemed like a nice place to come, I guess." He wasn't really sure what he needed for a pick-me-up, but he definitely wasn't getting it by looking depressed in the middle of a colorful garden.

Her hands were folded neatly in her lap, her bag sitting right up against her leg so she could feel it at all times, though she still glanced occasionally at it to make sure the bunny was still present and accounted for. The garden really was relaxing, wasn’t it?
“So, we’re here for almost similar reasons,” she inferred. Of course, she hadn’t said anything close to what he had just said, but she had meant it. After all, she very rarely got to get out of the headquarters. As a prisoner under the guise of an “employee”, it was difficult for her to escape the place she was being held. Hana elaborated. “To escape something.”
However, she had given up the notion of permanent escape years ago.
The next time she glanced at him, turning her head to see him with her good eye, she was taken a little aback by his posture. It was an all-too familiar look for her, and one she had worn years ago when she had first been taken by the Impedio Society—crippling despair. Her expression softened a little bit and she pivoted her hips so that she was turned slightly to face him. All she had wanted back then was someone to talk to. Maybe she could keep this boy from becoming like her—and almost emotionless vat that was resigned with her lot in life.
If she could give him the fighting spirit to get past his own personal hurdles, then maybe she would feel like she had actually done some good in this world.
And as an interrogator, she was impeccable at listening.
“What has you so down?” she asked, tilting her head ever so slightly. It would be nice, getting answers to her questions without having to torment someone. It was so very rare that she actually had a real conversation with someone that didn’t involve screaming.

alec matthews The young girl turned to face Alec a bit more, which was good. That meant she was actively listening to him. Not that he thought she would be...okay well he figured that she probably had no interest in why he was "gloom and doom" anyway. But that one small act made Alec feel like not all was lost. No, he knew that not everything was lost, but it sure felt like it. He just needed that pick me up. That one thing that would get him going. And honestly, right now, he wasn't even sure if that would make him feel better because he still had mixed feelings.
Alec really wanted to talk to Lucas.
The man had a hold over him. It was a good thing when the two could see each other, but now, with no contact from Lucas other than an occasional text, there was nothing. It went from Lucas carrying him home from the mansion from hell to casual acquaintances. It bothered him day and night, but Alec assumed that he never really meant that much to Lucas. Now, he was left alone to deal with these mixed emotions. He didn't even know what his sexuality was at this point. It was all coming down on him, and not having anyone to talk to wasn't helping.
But now, a random stranger offered a warm conversation with an open ear. What was he supposed to do, tell her about the monsters and stuff he had seen? No that wasn't an option. He decided to speak, but he wouldn't talk about any of that. He couldn't have someone trying to institutionalize him for being psychotic.
"Well, relationship problems is one. Met a guy and...well, I thought we had something. And one day he told me he was super busy and couldn't see me. Next thing I know it's been like two weeks and the most I've gotten from him is two messages saying that he's still around and that he would love to see me some day. Some day, can you believe that? I don't even know why I bothered with him!" He squirmed around in his chair, now becoming more uncomfortable than previously. His face was flushed and the bags under his eyes were starting to become more noticable. It was hard to keep his voice down, but he managed to do that for now.
"I don't know I'm just confused. And then there's a lot of other stuff, I guess." It only took a moment, but he deflated again, finally leaning back into the bench and looking toward the sky. With a big sigh, Alec closed his eyes and tried to hold back his emotions. "Don't let me bother you, please. Enjoy the scenery. I'll make it somehow."

She was more than happy to lend him and ear if that was all he needed. Sometimes that was all someone needed. Things might be easier for her if she had someone to talk to, for starters, but there was no one she could talk to about her problems with.
He started off with something she couldn’t really handle though. Relationships. Her brow dropped just a little bit but she still listened. It seemed like a simple enough problem. You didn’t have to be a relationship guru to know what he was going through—he had met someone who was probably nice to him and then was completely shut out. Maybe it had been out of pity that person had been nice to him, or maybe he had been a means to an end.
Either way, it was a bad feeling, and she could sympathize with that.
The kid seemed pretty bothered by it. She gave him a sympathetic smile and might have gave him a reassuring pat on the knee, but who knew how he would react to that. She was a little uncomfortable that they were talking about a male-male relationship, but she tried to hide it. Maybe he had just wanted a friend—or maybe it had been one of those relationships. In any case it really wasn’t her place to judge.
“That sounds rough,” she offered, unsure of anything else to say. Hana made a face. She wanted to help out more, but she really knew nothing about relationships so she was drawing a complete blank with this. After a brief second she thought of something to say and smiled at him again. “It seems you have a lot on your mind, then. But you’re young. You’ll bounce back in no time.” Of course she realized that she probably looked as young as he did so who knew how well that advice would roll over with him.
It was the best she could do.
Hana turned slightly away from him, but not enough to indicate that she didn’t want to listen to anything else he had to say. She looked down in thought, then realized that she hadn’t told him her name, or vice versa. You couldn’t offer proper advice without introductions. “Oh—my name is Hana, by the way.”

alec matthews If there was one thing that Alec disliked, it was that all-too familiar set of quotes that applied to young people. You're young, you can work 60 hours a week and still go to school! or something like You've got plenty of time to find yourself a nice wife and kids. Well that was painfully obvious! Alec already looked younger than he really was, so people assumed that he was still a kid most of the time. On the contrary, he had grown up much more than he ever anticipated within the last few months.
But he knew that she didn't mean anything but good by it. It was just one of his pet peeves, you know? So this time he would let it slide. He simply listened to her advice and feigned a smile, hoping that she couldn't see right through it. "Thanks. I do feel a little better just getting it off my chest..." No lying there; all he needed to do was to vent a little.
When she turned slightly away, Alec looked down in the direction that she was also looking. Something caught his eye that was a bit unusual. At first, he wasn't sure what it was, but he casually leaned forward a little. Both of his eyes widened in shock as his jaw dropped, leaving him speechless. The words "Oh—my name is Hana, by the way." were spoken, but they didn't register. What Alec had seen completely caught him off guard, and it honestly scared him.
That stuffed bunny... it had a black aura.
Something about it screamed tainted. He had never seen an aura like that...and it scared him. He knew about the five kingdoms and could guess which kingdom a person had an affiliation with based on their aura's color. But what he had never seen was a black aura. It was much darker than the normal gray that even Hana had. He honestly had no idea what it could mean, but something about it was just off.

Her brow furrowed and she followed his gaze to her large purse and the rabbit hanging partially out of it. A pang of protectiveness gripped her chest for a second and she pushed the purse further under the bench with her leg.
It was already awkward enough to explain why she was carrying around a stuffed rabbit, but it looked as if the kid was extremely uncomfortable the longer he stared at it.
“Um—it’s just a stuffed toy,” she explained, offering a nervous toy. She would offer the same lame excuse she gave everyone, but no one ever really seemed to believe her. It was better than the actual truth, though. “I. . . it means a lot to me and I just. . . never got out of the habit of carrying it around, especially when I’m. . . in a new place. It helps me feel. . . more at home.”
Hana mentally kicked herself. She really should get better about hiding it when she was out in public, but if she couldn’t see it, it gave her terribly anxiety.
Though it was sad, it had to be done.
But why did it elicit such a reaction from him? He had looked honestly terrified. Had he thought maybe it was a real bunny she’d stuffed in her purse? She offered him a reassuring look. “It wasn’t a real bunny. . . I promise,” she said. Maybe at a glance it might look real, but it should have been obvious that it was just a stuffed toy.

alec matthews Was she...nervous? Red flags went off inside Alec's head, warning him to be cautious around her. But, of course, curiosity was taking over, just as it had the night he was impaled and nearly died. This time, though, he was more alert and would not reveal anything that he should. Nothing that would link him to something out of the ordinary. He most definitely wasn't going to mention the black aura surrounding the bunny. But he wanted to know why she had it and what its importance was.
Suddenly, he felt as though he was sitting too close. He stood up and moved a few steps away, carefully watching both Hana and the bunny. After listening to her stammer for a few minutes, he decided to carefully approach the topic. "It's not the fact that you are carrying it...but what is it? That's no ordinary bunny. Where did you get it?" He felt as though he was being a bit bold and obnoxious by asking these questions, but something wasn't right. And if it helped Alec to understand some of the hell he had been experiencing, he wanted to know.
His hands went into his pockets, one gripped the handy knife that he carried with him. If he needed to act, he wanted to be prepared. But he wasn't going to brandish a weapon on a young girl like her without any sort of provocation or sign of danger. His body had tensed up and he felt less sure of himself than he had before, but he was really scared and didn't know what to do. So he took the offensive.
Before she could say anything, he wanted her to know that he meant no harm to her. But how was how supposed to word it without sounding absolutely psychotic? "I...I'm just...I don't know, okay? Something's not right." Alec hoped that she could see the concern and anxiety in his eyes rather than the fear of the unknown.

Did he somehow know? But how could he? He was just some kid she’d happened to run into. Was he afraid of bunnies? Some people had irrational fears so maybe his was rabbits. It was possible—but his face and posture said that it was something entirely different.
But his question confused her the most and she opened her mouth slightly, searching for the words. She couldn’t outright tell him that it was a cursed rabbit that could cause hysteria and drive people mad. That just wasn’t something you told civilians.
Maybe part of the truth.
It was a harsh memory, and she hated him for making her relive it. He knew it wasn’t just your average bunny, but she couldn’t tell him its nature.
“It was my sister’s,” she murmured quietly, but loud enough for him to hear. She turned her head away from him, her eye patch masking any emotion that she was feeling. There wasn’t much emotion there anyway, but the blank look on her face would speak volumes. “She died when I was twelve. We were getting ice cream after her tennis match and someone came in and killed a bunch of people. That’s where I lost my eye and my sister. I had it with me—she wanted it there. She always thought it was lucky.”
Hana’s head fell slightly and her fingers balled into a fist in her lap. Why? Why could he tell? She was caught so off-guard she couldn’t remember protocol for this situation. “It—it wasn’t so lucky after all. Maybe—maybe her spirit is still attached to it.”

alec matthews As soon as she finished her story, Alec finally relaxed. But only a little. His face softened and his features became less strained. He took his hands out of his pockets and bent down, looking at the bunny and then back to Hana. It was really a sad story, and Alec hated to hear about what happened. But what she said stuck with him... something about it made sense. He reached forward slightly and attempted to hold her hand, trying to reassure her that he wasn't there to threaten or to harm her.
"I'm really sorry to hear that. I didn't really...mean to upset you or anything" He felt bad about bringing up a tender memory with her. It wasn't something right for her to talk about her own personal memories and become upset over a stranger asking questions, but he really and truly felt as though he needed to know.
His eyes, now a bit clouded with their own buildup of tears, traveled to the young girl's eye. He hoped that he was showing enough emotion so that she would feel more comfortable talking to him. But he had to find out more information. He looked toward her purse and back up to her again before speaking, much more softly this time. "I don't think it's her spirit. I think it's something much more dangerous, or something that could be harmful. I know that you don't know me and I know that I'm speaking in a way that is really confusing, but I am very concerned. Did you see the person that did this?" He stressed the last part in hopes of finding out if it was another one of those creatures or if it was an actual person.

She didn’t stop him when he reached for her—she’d never been nervous around other people touching her. It actually happened quite a bit: Hana was constantly manhandled.
She shook her head and smiled a tiny smile, only to look away. “It was a long time ago. I shouldn’t still be upset over it,” she said, tilting her head back to look up at the sky. In all honestly she had gotten over her sister’s death, but she would never get over the fact that the event had taken her life out of her hands. She was a prisoner now. As far as she knew, she would always be a prisoner and would die one day while interrogating someone.
Hana had thought the whole spirit thing would get him off her back.
But it didn’t.
Her eye widened slightly and she gently shook her head, mentally pleading with him to drop it. He knew. He absolutely new. And the only way that was possible is if he had interacted with a being concocted by Fate or Destiny or Chaos. That he knew about the kingdoms. And that just simply was absolutely not okay with the people she worked for.
Somehow, she had to get him to stop.
“Please,” she said quietly, leaning toward him. Her good eye darted around at the other people milling about the garden. She did not know when she was followed, only that she occasionally was, even with the ankle bracelet. “You can’t say any more.”

alec matthews In that one moment, when Hana finally leaned forward and quietly pleaded with him not to speak any more about it, something clicked. There were only a few explanations as to why she did that. Was she being paranoid that somebody was going to hear? Alec really didn't care that he was freaking out about a stuffed bunny. No, his logical thought wasn't on that track. Right now, he wanted to know what was going on with it and why there was something super strange with it.
Another explanation could have been that she was being watched. By who or what Alec didn't have a clue, but he wasn't about to start asking a bunch of questions about that. He could be kidnapped, shot, or any number of horrible things could happen if he started poking his nose in the wrong business. He had seen too many mafia movies, obviously.
Or she really just didn't want to talk about it and he couldn't force her to. Either way, Alec really wanted to know more about it, but he figured that somehow this was as far as he would get. Cautiously, he returned to his place on the bench and threw his head back, squinting as the sunlight caught him off guard. He let out a disgruntled noise of agitation, feeling as though he was so close without finding out what was going on. Alec wanted silence for a moment, but only for a brief moment.
When he felt that he was in better control of himself again, he turned and angled his body back toward Hana. Again, he reached out and grabbed her hand with both of his own. "Sorry. I...well, feel like I'm going crazy sometimes with this weird stuff happening."

| the price of evil Can't wake up in sweat Cause it ain't over yet Still dancing with your demons Victim of your own creation Beyond the will to fight Where all that's wrong is right Where hate don't need a reason Loathing self-assassination) You've been lied to Just to rape you of your sight And now they have the nerve To tell you how to feel So sedated as they Medicate your brain And while you slowly Go insane they tell ya "Given with the best intentions Help you with your complications" And I know you hear their voices Calling from above Hana inwardly sighed with relief. Outwardly, she closed her eyes and let his words sink in. He was going to drop it. She remembered protocol—tag and bag. She would have to bring him in and then someone would have to question him about what he knows and how he knows it, and if he refused to cooperate, then she might be brought in. . . .
One way or another, he would have found out exactly what her bunny could do.
When she opened her eyes again, they flitted to the bunny in her purse. It just sat there, a little toy, but now it felt like a giant monkey on her back. How could he have known? Was he one of the reincarnations? In the back of her mind she knew that she should report this, but he wasn’t hurting anyone. He just knew a little more than the Society wanted him to.
She should have been afraid about what they would do to her if they found out she’d known and never reported, but in all honestly, what would they do? They couldn’t do anything they haven’t already done to her. Maybe they’d take away a couple of her privileges like leaving without an escort, but she was used to that.
He continued speaking and Hana turned so she could see him and offered the tiniest, rueful smiles. “You must be careful who you ask about this,” she explained quietly, her voice low and head tucked slightly. “It is not that you are crazy, I just—I’m with some people. I can’t say any more.”

alec matthews It is not that you are crazy, I just—I’m with some people. I can’t say any more.
Whatever Alec had been thinking, or at least one of his brief thoughts, had to be correct. They were probably being watched, and Hana didn't want either of them to get caught talking about it. Well that was fine and dandy because Alec wasn't too keen on being taken and opened up like a science experiment. Did they really do stuff like that, or was that just science fiction? Anytime before now Alec would have believed the nonsense about kingdoms and auras and this other stuff nonsense, but...well, anything was pretty possible by now.
With a slight nod, Alec acknowledged her words yet he continued to speak as though nothing ever happened. Though this was about as strange an encounter as any of the others he had, Alec felt somehow better. Anxious, but still better than depressed. He wanted to know more and ask more questions, but chances are bad things would happen. So he left it alone for now, but at some point he would need to make it a point and explore this.
"Ahhh." Yep that was all he could get out. He wanted to talk more, but honestly didn't have a clue what to say or how to approach it But he wanted to try, regardless of how awkward it might be.
"Would you be interested in talking again sometime?" That was as close as he could get to I really want your number because there is something so mysterious and strange about you, and I want to know more. Probably best that he kept it short and sweet.

Hana sighed another sigh of relief and even offered him the tiniest of smiles to let him know that she appreciated it. At least she could do enough to tell him that he wasn’t crazy. That whatever he was dealing with—and Hana could only guess he’d been somehow involved with an attack from the Entities—he wasn’t crazy. That it wasn’t just in his mind.
If he had been worried about that. But who wouldn’t be?
She thought maybe that would be it. She let the silence sit for just a couple seconds, but then he asked her if she would be interested in talking to him again. Hana swallowed hard and turned her head so her expression was hidden by the eye patch. It was a habit she had picked up after getting used to it. Her fingers balled into a fist, gripping the hem of her shirt tight.
Would she be interested in talking again? Certainly. He seemed like a decent kid. There were only a couple problems with it—she’d have to take the rabbit with her if they decided to meet again and it obviously made him uncomfortable, and she wasn’t allowed friends.
“You—you can’t call me,” she said, her voice heavy—as if she was about to cry. It was like this when she went out, sometimes. She wasn’t overly friendly but she wasn’t a recluse, either. She liked talking to people. But when she did—sometimes they wanted to be friends with her. Sometimes they thought they already were friends. But she couldn’t have friends. She moved too much and she did terrible things to people. And she was a prisoner. A bird in a gilded cage.
Hana sniffed slightly and turned her head even more, swallowing. There was one thing, maybe. This poor kid—he probably didn’t have anyone to talk to about this sort of thing. She was a terrible person to talk to about it, too: protocol was she bring him in for questioning and debriefing. But that wasn’t always a fun experience, especially for kids.
“I—I could maybe call you. On payphones. Or public lines. . . but—I’m. . . I’m not supposed to have friends.”

alec matthews Gauging by her reaction, Alec knew that she was in a pretty rough spot. She seemed like such a sweet person, but to have her monitored constantly? That was ridiculous. No human being should be treated like that. Unless...no, she had to be a human. Just like him. Another teenager, or maybe even a young adult. But for whatever reason, their meeting today would likely be either the last one, or they would need to wait a long time.
Without speaking, Alec nodded in acknowledgement. He didn't want to tell her how disappointed he was that he couldn't speak with her freely. Or tell her that he desperately needed someone to talk to about all of his innermost personal problems. Or that he's been chased by monsters and weird elemental spirit things for the past month or so. He'd have to leave all of that out because that wasn't something just anyone needed to know.
That and he didn't want to get her into any trouble.
"I understand." There was no point in continuing their conversation further, especially not if she weren't even supposed to be there in the first place. Alec assumed that if she was being monitored, any number of people could march in and take her back, and Alec would most definitely not like to go with her. This, of course, was merely all speculation, and after the month or so that Alec's had, he wouldn't be surprised if he were just being super paranoid or crazy.
Alec turned and made sure that he was making eye contact with Hana. He smiled at her, trying to ease the worry on his face, and spoke. "Call me when you can." He recited his number aloud twice, hoping that she would be able to remember it. If not, it wouldn't be the end of the world, but he still would like to get to know her a little better.
And get to know her story, of course.
"And if you can't, it's fine. It was very nice meeting you, Hana. Call me Henry." Alec smiled and stood, making his way out of the garden feeling much better than when he first went in.

In exchange for her going with them her parents were being taken care of and she—well she wasn't killed. Sure she had to be monitored and tracked, but at least she was fed and clothed and got shelter. And her parents were set for their lives. Hana couldn't throw that away.
But she wished she could have a few friends. Most of the people in IS either just ignored her or avoided her, and she really never tried to make friends with them anyway because she was ferreted from place to place. Having someone to talk to while she was in the states wouldn't be so bad.
However, that was probably not going to happen anyway.
This kid, though, he seemed to understand. She might have been able to tell him everything, but he seemed like a smart kid that understood what was going on. Hana gave him a thankful smile and when he recited his number to her, she muttered it to herself really quickly until she had it at least committed to her short-term memory. She would write it down when she got a chance—probably after he made his leave.
Of course, she would have to leave it unlabelled and just hope she remembered who's number it was.
Hana nodded to him and stood when he stood. She would stick around a little longer to mull things over, and she did quite like the garden, but she wanted to be polite, like she normally was. “It was nice meeting you, too,” she said formally. She had thought he'd told her a different name—or had he even told her his name at all? Oh well. It sounded like an alias, and an alias was much better when dealing with her anyway.
After bidding him farewell and sitting down, Hana took out a little notebook and a pen from her large bag, carefully pushing the bunny out of the way, and then wrote down the number. She was sure she had remembered it correctly. She put it away, then sat back and tried to enjoy the garden.
