Some down time, finally!
Being an actress was hard work sometimes!
Julianna had managed to convince her bodyguards to remain scarce today. After all, she was going to the beach for some fun! There wasn’t going to be any rivals showing up to hurt her, she was just going to run around and hope someone cute hit on her while she was sunbathing. Julianna just wanted to be a normal person, even for a couple hours.
And nothing screamed “not normal” like a couple of huge bodyguards lurking right behind her back all the time.
She was dressed in her cutest possible bikini, large hat covering her head and sunglasses shielding her eyes. Her lower half was covered with a flowery sarong and she was wearing sandals on her feet. Julianna hadn’t even let her bodyguard’s carry her stuff to the beach—they were to wait by the car until they heard her screaming for help.
Not that she would. She set her stuff up and popped the beach umbrella and set up her chair. Her beach towel was folded up and set down on her tiny little cooler that had sodas and water. For a second she stood back to admire her work, then sat down on her chair to apply suntan lotion before she started working on that tan she wanted. There were a few other people around, but she had tried to pick out a quieter part of the beach before the families showed up with their kids.
But nothing could ruin this day! Nothing! Not even kids!

everybody comes to hollywood Leon had decided something today. He was going to go to the beach today. LA was known for their beaches, right? Because they were so close to the coast... It was actually a wonder why he hadn't gone to one already, but no matter. He couldn't do everything in just one month, but he was pretty damn close looking at it. Sure, he had spent the day in yesterday, but it had been a conversation yesterday that had spurred on his want to go to the beach, after all.
Well, he'd been planning it anyways, may as well, right? He asked, once again, if anyone really wanted to accompany him, but he was greeted with the usual 'no' that he was just so used to hearing now, he shrugged it off. Kind of sad, really, when everyone didn't want to embark on what Leon called the fun adventure of exhaustion. But this trip to the beach he really didn't mind going alone. After all it was just the beach.
Beaches were fun, though! What did people usually go on beaches? Sun tan... well, he didn't think he needed to do that. Buy ice cream? That was on the to-do list, for sure. Swim? Actually, Leon didn't particularly find swimming something he wanted to do. He was awfully terribly at it. Splash around in the water, maybe. That was okay, though probably not going to happen if he could help it. Oh, build sand castles!
The beach held endless possibilities for him. His first act was trying to find a place that wasn't so crowded. He had swim trunks on despite his plan on staying away from the water, a shirt because common decency, and a towel because he was planning on sitting, and he'll be damned if he sat on the sand. He hadn't brought his camera along because he was afraid of the sand getting into it. And he did eventually find a place where he laid down his towel. He was woefully unprepared for beach shenanigans, but he was here, and if the only thing he was doing was observing scenery then so be it.
And then he saw it. A cooler. Probably with something cold. And he wanted some. So Leon approached the woman (who looked really cute! Where did she get her hair done?) and only wondered for a brief moment if this was a good idea before asking her, since he was already here. "Can I have one?" He nodded towards the direction of the cooler. |

Finally, some rest and relaxation. Before she started working on that tan she came here for, she decided to scope out the eye candy first. If there was any. Her sharp eyes scanned the beach for any lone men she could maybe lure over with her slicked up body.
Eh, it seemed too early yet. She could work on the tan a little bit. Maybe someone would come along after a while. She had plenty of time, after all, to pick up a new boy-toy!
She finally stood up and picked up her folded up towel and walked out from under her umbrella. Just when she was about to unfold it and lay it out, someone walked up. She smiled to herself and thought that maybe at last she had garnered some attention from someone, but when she turned toward the sound of footsteps it just looked some kid barely in his twenties. Of course, she was barely in her twenties, too, but she liked older men.
Well. No.
She just liked men.
And this guy was cute.
He motioned toward her cooler and asked if he could have one. Julianna looked back over at her cooler and raised her eyebrows. He didn’t even know what was in there and he was asking if he could something of what was inside. She stood up straight and turned him with a bemused look on her face. “Did you not come here prepared?” she asked, one hand on her hip and head cocked to the side. “First time at the beach, kid?”

everybody comes to hollywood "No, not really!" No, Leon had definitely not come here prepared. Then again, when was he ever prepared in anything? No, it was only in afterthought when he realized he could have brought a bit more, prepared more, actually a lot of things. But now was not the time to lament over the past. "Nope! I've never been to this beach."
And he seemed as happy as ever to admit this. Weirdo. Then again this woman was really pretty! Or maybe it was just her really nice hair speaking. Though, it would probably be really creepy to say that aloud. After all, he'd asked for something. And Leon, being to absolutely social person that he wanted to be, thought he'd make a friend. Or a lot, considering how friendly he was trying to be with everyone he met. "What's in it?"
Because he would really like something cold and a cooler was supposed to keep things cool, right? It was still closed and Leon wanted a look inside - if she was alright with that, of course. "Hmmm, as payment, can I spend some time with you?" He didn't want to be lonely on this little outing to the beach, at least. Though that wasn't really a payment, it was more like asking for two favors and pretending one was supposed to making up for the other. So, Leon supposed it was alright if she said no.
Though he'd probably be sad. "I don't mean to be a bother, really." |

Well, at least he was honest. She had half-expected to be told something about how he’d packed a whole thing and forgot. Or maybe this was just some strange pick-up attempt she hadn’t ever been faced with before. It was really starting to look like the kid was just really laid-back and honest.
Eh, didn’t matter. Now she wasn’t alone at the beach.
But would some other, hotter guy drop by and get scared off? Nah—that wasn’t possible. She’d drop him if someone hotter came along.
He asked what was in the cooler and Julianna looked at it. “Ah—yes.” Julianna fixed up her towel really quickly and then took the couple steps to the cooler. It wasn’t very big, so she just picked it up and moved it a bit so she could show off what was inside. After popping open the lid, she explained. “A lot of ice, some tasty little sandwiches in bags, half a dozen cans of Root Beer and half a dozen cans of Pepsi. I planned to hunker down for quite a while.”
She looked up at him and smiled, sitting back on her haunches, knees together in front of her. She was, after all, a lady. Julianna knew how to sit like a lady. “No bother. I don’t mind. In any case, I could use a little bit of company. I came here about as alone as you did,” she said. She swept a hand over her open cooler. “Pick your poison.”
Once he’d picked, she would put the cooler back under the shade of her umbrella. “My name is Julianna. What’s your name?”

everybody comes to hollywood "Wow, you really came prepared!" If Leon only had half the talent she had the preparation. And he was supposed to be the fun planner of the group. Yes, he'd get the tickets and the rides and stuff to the amusement park, but then he'd forget the most important thing - bringing his camera. Just like when he went to Disneyland earlier this month, he'd forgotten his camera because he was unprepared as ever. If the band ever did anything he planned, well, he got the preliminaries done at least! Had to count for something. "It's like you prepared enough for the both of us and then some."
And Leon meant it to be a compliment in every way possible. Did he ever not mean to compliment? Well, when he was throwing around insults and jokes but that didn't count.
As soon as she confirmed that it was alright to spend time with her (after all, Leon never knew with beautiful women, although he could say that were from his disinterest and lack of trying to understand them), he sat down next to her. "Pepsi then." Soda was probably a bad idea for him, as caffeine did bad things to his already energetic personality, but surely it'll be fine if it were just one can, right? "Thank you!"
Good point, Julianna was her name and if they were spending time together, then it would be best to at least know names. "I'm Leon, pleased to meet you." Though something had been in the back of his mind. She was really pretty but kind of familiar. Had he seen her around before? "You look familiar somehow, have we met before?" Or maybe he'd been watching too much TV. No, but if that were the case he'd definitely remember who she was. |

She moved back a bit so she could sit down on her beach chair. Maybe the day was salvaged. The kid had a good personality at least, and “I always come prepared for anything, though. Something my Daddy taught me!”
Daddy taught her a lot of useful things.
He called out his drink of choice and Julianna fished one out from the bottom to ensure that it would be nice and cold for them, then tossed it gently in his direction. She had a couple plastic shopping bags wadded up in her purse to use as trash cans, so she was certainly prepared. Once he had his drink, Julianna pulled out a Root Beer for herself and popped the tab to take a sip.
“It’s nice to meet you too, Leon!” she returned pleasantly, setting her drink in one of the cup holders on her chair. Oh yes. She knew how to beach properly. She indicated toward the other one and said, “Feel free to use that cup holder, too, so your can doesn’t get all sandy.”
Then, he asked her favorite question.
She beamed and leaned forward slightly. It was her favorite question because that meant he’d seen one of her commercials she starred in or one of the movies she’d played a small role in. “No, we haven’t—but I have been on TV quite a few times and in a couple small-time movies. One day you might even see me on the big screen,” she gladly explained, radiating pride.

everybody comes to hollywood "Thanks! You're too kind." Leon took the can and opened it, taking a drink from it. Yes, he'd probably regret it later (actually... no, his friends would probably regret letting him go out and get himself a soda because of how hyper he could be when he had sugar in his system), but for now it was delicious and cold and very nice.
He put the can where she motioned, and then listened intently.
So that was why she seemed so familiar! Leon knew it - well, somewhere in the back of his mind he liked to think that he knew it. He hadn't really drawn the conclusion that she had been on TV before, in fact he had been quite surprised about it.
But that was certainly interesting, wasn't it? "Really? Wow, I can't wait to see you on the big screen, then. I've always wanted to be in a movie, but I guess I'm not so lucky." Nah, it had just been live performances and then music videos and that was it. He didn't think he would be in a movie anytime soon, either.
And then he just saw the most peculiar thing. "Hey, do you see that?" He was looking straight ahead, sort of over her shoulder, so he really didn't expect her to see. "Is that... frozen sand?"

She liked this kid. He really knew how to butter up a lady. She waved her hand slightly and giggled. “Well, perhaps one day if I’m big and famous I’ll tell Hollywood I know this kid that would be just perfect for a roll,” she offered. It sounded like she was just playing fun, but she was also pretty serious.
The conversation took a short turn when Leon caught sight of something. Julianna turned in her chair slightly to see what he was looking at and squinted, as if that would make her see further away. With the umbrella over her head, she didn’t have to worry about shielding her eyes from the sun.
At first she wasn’t sure what she was looking at, but then she saw it.
Just a ways away, the sun was glinting strangely off the sand. It seemed particularly devoid of people, but there were a few looky-loos ogling the strange phenomenon. Julianna watched for a little bit longer, trying to see exactly what it was, but she was too far and couldn’t see it with the sun glinting off it like that. So, she turned back to Leon and smiled at him. There was only one thing to do in a situation like this.
“Well, let’s go see if that’s what it is,” she suggested.

everybody comes to hollywood "Woah, really?! You'd do that for me?" A complete stranger would do that for him? Leon was a bit skeptical, but he thought about it for a second. This was a very kind lady who seemed to be on the path of fame. To be fair, Leon might've done the same if in her situation - well, to be honest, he'd have done the same for someone like himself. Absolutely perfect and stunning in every way he'd possibly attempt to be.
But he was so going to be banking on that pseudo-promise. He'd look her up, or something, she'd be easy to look up, right?
No, first, the sand. Leon wasn't sure why he had thought it was frozen sand, of all things, but it was glittering and uh... it just looked wrong, if that made any sense. He had wanted to investigate, but he was unwilling to leave Julianna so he brought her attention to it.
He was, of course, overjoyed that she wanted to investigate as well! They'd be buddies, partners in crime! And he was rather curious, so he scrambled up in an attempt to get a closer look.
A closer look did indeed reveal that it was... frozen sand. Or more or less halfway melting sand, as the trail started from one place where it was melting from the warm sand towards more solid... icy sand. "That's really weird. Let's follow it!"
Now Leon knew probably somewhere in the back of his mind this was probably one of his worse ideas. Who knew what could be waiting for him and his companion if he followed the trail. A monster, maybe? Or maybe some really terrible people! But he was so so very curious, and he looked over towards Julianna as if looking for approval.

Of course the other reason was that she had nothing better to do with her own resources than help other people out occasionally, and this kid seemed like the perfect kid to help out at this time.
He seemed glad that she wanted to go investigate the phenomenon, and she got up from her chair and ducked under the umbrella and into the harsh beach sun. Luckily she'd already doused herself with tanning oil, so hopefully any sunburn she got was converted into a perfect tan, instead.
Leon scrambled ahead of her and she followed after him, barefoot. Had she remembered to put sunscreen on her feet? Eh, it didn't matter. They were covered by sand after only a few steps forward. They would probably be fine. Probably. There was an adventure afoot in any case. A few injuries were inevitable, were they not?
“It seems you were correct,” Julianna pointed out once they had reached the scene. It most definitely was iced-over sand.
Julianna leaned down slightly to investigate the ice and ran her fingers over it. Cool and melting. Her fingers came back slick with wet melted ice with little grains of sand. When she looked up, Leon was investigating a little trail that seemed to head out somewhere. Julianna stood up and walked over to him. “Where do you think it goes?” she asked, basically knowing his answer.
Sure enough, he wanted to investigate.
Once again she found herself smiling at his enthusiasm and trotted after him. She wasn't really used to running, but jogging totally wasn't out of the question. Of course, she herself was quite excited by this prospect, too. Adventure, possible danger—sure she'd come to the beach to relax and maybe hook up with someone, but this was far more interesting in her opinion.

everybody comes to hollywood Where did it go, where did it go, that was the question and Leon was determined to answer it. Although he did suppose he should wait for Julianna to join him, because in his enthusiasm it seemed that he had rushed up ahead of her. He was a little bit excited, it was some sort of odd phenomenon and Leon wanted to discover something! What had he expected from frozen sand, though? Sand didn't just freeze up by itself, and so something must have caused it, but what?
Obviously the temperature was kind of hot here, but Leon didn't mind it so much. Actually, he didn't really mind anything so much right at this moment. A nice lady had agreed to put in a good word for him in the movie industry once she was successful, and something mysterious and strange was going on. This might be one of the greatest days of his life (it probably wasn't since he had a lot of those days, he just forgets sometimes).
"Maybe... it leads up to a monster!" Leon didn't really think that it would be a monster, though, he really doubted it. Just some trick of nature maybe. But he couldn't help but grin at the prospect. "I don't really know, but I'm gonna follow it anyways."
He dragged her along (more like followed the trail and looked back and waiting for her to catch up because he was kind of going really fast. Maybe he should slow down? But he really was impatient, to the core of it. He really wanted to find out what was there.

She was, after all, a proper lady. But she followed after Leon dutifully, also finding herself morbidly curious as to how this ice was possible. She avoided stepping on it, of course—not just because it was cold but because she didn't trust her bare feet to have enough traction to avoid slipping and breaking her hip.
Like an old person. Bleh.
“A monster, eh?” she repeated, glancing around as if that was some cue for a giant ice beast to pop out of—thin air?—and start mauling them. The mere thought made her wish she had her bodyguards with her, but they were probably off enjoying the beach.
Or maybe lurking. They were most likely lurking and making sure that she wasn't getting herself killed by giant monsters. She was sort of glad, but at the same time she was wishing that they would just enjoy themselves for once. She'd told them she didn't need them at the beach, so why not strip down and enjoy the beach themselves?
Julianna chuckled slightly and shook her head. “Well if we get killed, just remember that I won't be able to make you a movie-star,” she pointed out light heartedly, looking around still. The trail was getting fresher, it seemed. At least she thought so.
