Staring at the tigers Aodhgan sighed and leaned against the barrier, he didn't even like zoos. Was he that bored and tired of his flat that he felt the need to come here? Chuckling a little he watched the big cats walk around, "Who was it that thought it would be fun to shave a tiger?" he wondered aloud as the skin pigments of a tiger are stripped like their fun, it was one of the few amusing facts about biology that amuses or interests him. The rest of the time it put him to sleep, it didn't matter that his teacher was this good looking teeny weeny young Irish woman in her twenties it was so boring he lost focus every lesson, he knew his stuff but his grades when from top of the class to near bottom because of his lack of attention over the year, still got a B though.
So why the hell was he here on one of his days off? That was the million doller question wasn't it, why would someone who is indifferent to the animals be here, neither love seeing them or any distaste for the captivity either. Maybe today was the day he meets the love of his life and it was his destiny or fate or whatever you call it to be here. Ha! As if, stupid to even go along those lines, a predetermined future didn't exist and it was him that chose his path in life, he wouldn't be doing menial work until the end of his days.
Taking a page from the book of Harvey Dent he took out a coin and tossed it in the air. Tails, guess he is staying here watching some big scary cats, wonder if one is called Shere Khan, would be missing a golden opportunity there by calling it Bob, or Charlie. He sat down with his back to the tigers and pulled his ipod out from the pocket of his white assassins creed hoodie and a rubiks cube from the other, with a few twists he had an edge the way he needed it to be for the trick he learned a few years ago to work, an algorithm for solving it. He set the ipod to shuffle through his measly five albums as he slowly went through the motions of solving the simple device that brings such rage to people.
The Scotsman ignored everyone that passed or stood around to watch, even the small kids or babies that usually make him smile from their cuteness he ignored and focused on his 'puzzle. That was until someone stood close enough for him to see their legs in his peripheral vision, looking up at them he stopped with his cube half done.

Hana remembered loving them as a child, and even know, as jaded as she was, she found a little comfort in visiting them. It wasn’t every day she was able to run off and do things she liked to do, and when she got permission to visit the zoo she had inwardly been extremely excited. Outside she hardly showed emotion anymore, but she was certainly still capable of feeling it.
She’d only been there half an hour and had already walked—slowly—through the entire birds of prey exhibit. Hana was working up to the reptile section, but she passed by the big cat’s exhibit first and decided to take a little detour. After all, she had all day.
If she wanted to, she could go through all of the exhibits twice!
And she just might.
The small girl found her way to the tigers and got as close to the glass that she could without pushing her body against it, trying to get a peak of the animal. Sometimes these were so disappointing because usually the animals were just lazing about or napping. But they were still neat to look at, at least. She was carrying her bag with the little rabbit it, like she always was. With so many kids running around, she really paid close attention—you never when a small child might act out and grab it.
After getting her fill of the tigers, she stepped back and tried to decide where she wanted to go next. She had her little map in hand, and stopped in front of a bench to look at it. Hana barely noticed that there was someone sitting on it until they moved to look at her.
“Oh—Sorry,” she murmured, stepping off to the side so she wasn’t blocking his view.

The thing about him and rubix cubes was that he didn't actually do them, he had learned an algorithm that let him do them easily so when the girl apologised he continued to twist it using a single hand, another trick he had learned. He learned this and a couple other nerdy things while his parents were still together and he wasn't a lazy idiot that just played video games, his next plan of action was to learn those pen tricks off youtube but that one he never got around to really nailing, just a few launched pens across the room one of which almost took his brother's eye out and sticking to his cube was a better idea.
"Uh why?" he asked as he looked up to her and he considered it a personal victory that his mouth didn't drop in surprise, he did raise his eyebrows however and went on a mental trip to decide what could give her that red eye plus a patch. The dark hair could be dyed if she was albino, the patch could be correcting a lazy eye or something, or eye damage. Yep he was that much of a nerd and having a father that was a doctor and a few years of obsessive House watching didn't help.
She had a map of the zoo in her hand, maybe she was lost and women tend to navigate using landmarks so the simple sort of zoo or theme park map would be easier for them to understand and find their way. "Um... Can I help you?" he asked her, he hoped she would say no and move on but that would not stop him doing something if she needed a hand, what else was he to do when he didn't even want to be here.
Looking back down at his hand he gave the cube a quick once over and a slight smirk at the perfect six colours on the cube. A little showy toss in the air as he stood up before he pocketed it and smiled at the woman. What else could be said, he always struggled at this part, the small talk and niceties so with his hands stuffed in his pockets to hide the nerves of talking to someone he started to chew on his lip and tapped his foot. "You should check out the monkeys and apes, the golden lion tamarin is a nice interesting one psychologically. And they are ginger to boot." he suggested with a friendly grin as he looked about, he was genuine about how interesting they were despite his lack of interest in their "cuteness" and the like most people visit zoos for.

I thought I had stepped into your view. I didn’t realize you were doing a puzzle,” she explained, giving him a little apologetic bow. It was a little impressive, but also a tad show-offy to be doing it in public like that. Why would he come to a zoo just to do a rubix cube?
Eh well she wasn’t there to judge. Maybe he’d been drug here by friends and ditched, maybe it was a school trip and he hadn’t wanted to go, there were a lot of factors. Let the kid do his cube puzzle.
It was more than she could do.
He asked suddenly if he could help her, likely thinking that she was lost since she had the map out and was scanning it furiously. She turned her body this time so she didn’t have to keep craning her neck to look at him and lifted the map up slightly. “I haven’t been here before so I was just trying to decide what I should look at next,” she said.
After putting away his finished puzzle cube, he recommended the primates. Monkeys, chimps, the likes. Hana hadn’t ever really been interested in them because they bore an uncomfortable resemblance to humans, but she had so much time she might as well get them out of the way and make her way down that direction. “The monkies?” she repeated, turning to her map and staring at it, trying to find where they were.
“How do I get there?” she asked absently, tracing the path on the map with her finger and glancing up to see the corresponding landmarks in real life.

"Yeah... um, a bit of a weird place for it huh?" he asked with a rather awkward shrug as he looked around, it really was weird that he was hanging out all alone and playing by himself in the zoo... and when you put it like that it sounded a bit creepy as well. Oh dear she was bowing, more or less knowing what it meant he quickly got to his feet and gave her what he hoped was at least an acceptable one of his own. So she was japanese then? Or at least with a family that has a strong sense of tradition and heritage, it was nice, to much of this 'westernisation' destroyed such things like this. Aodhgan then waved towards a couple kids nearby and grinned, "I wish I had the excuse to say one of the brats running around were mine.Yet to find that eh, rather unlucky lady."
"Yeah this is my first time too." he admitted and stuck his hands in his pocket, he wasn't about to admit he was a lonely soul on his own. Maybe a blind date gone wrong? Or being stood up. You know something sad and endearing maybe. "Yup monkies. Little lively balls of hair. Ugly little creatures they are too." he shuffled a little on his feet at how weird he felt around people.
"You know, I have nothing better to do. I could probably show you where it is. May I?" the boy offered and held out a hand to see the map as he looked over his shoulder to get his bearings and the general direction on where to go. Maybe it could be fun. Doubtful but there is still a chance out there in the big unknown universe.

I find puzzles tend to be addictive anyway,” she responded, offering him a slight smile. Sure there were better things to do at a zoo than a puzzle, but people were busy on their phones. It was basically the same thing. If Hana had a phone and not a care in the world, she might have also been one of those phone addicts texting all the time.
But that wasn't the case.
She glanced at the children pattering through when he indicated toward them and narrowed her eyes slightly, but not out of suspicion: Hana couldn't imagine having kids. Maybe years ago when she was still young and carrying around dolls, but now there was basically no way it was happening anymore, and she'd resigned to that fact. “There will be plenty of time. But maybe you should look up from the puzzle occasionally—perhaps she has walked by already and you missed her,” she teased lightly, with a smile.
“I have to agree. Some monkeys are cute, but chimps. . . they are too much like humans,” Hana replied, looking up from the map and echoing her earlier thoughts. “But I could just skip past them and look at the other ones. . . like the cute spider monkies,” she said out loud, glad to have a conversation partner that wasn't about work.
When he offered to lead her around, Hana saw no reason not to let him. She handed over the map and offered a polite smile. “I would like that. Zoos, as I have observed, seem to be better enjoyed with others,” she said, glancing around at the groups and pairs of people. “My name is Hana, by the way.”
