Living Situation At the moment he's a student at UCLA, studying business management and similar classes (which is the most yawn-worthy subjects known to man), though he works part-time at his father's company, Savage International, which is a multinational corporation holding several public utility services in the United States and Australia. In other words, he's the heir to a huge company, and is being groomed to become the next CEO slowly but surely. That won't happen for a while, however - for now he's overseer of the LA branch in preparation for the day. While he could technically afford a very nice house of his own within driving distance of UCLA, Rye, being unable to decide if he's staying in the city or not, refuses to leave his two bedroom, lavishly furnished apartment in downtown LA, which is just close enough to the University for him to be able to drive there within fifteen minutes. Don't let the word apartment fool you - the complex where he lives definitely reflects his living style and status in the world, with all the works of extras - pool, fitness center, spa and sauna, tennis court, small putting course, volleyball court, a playground, it's own personal park - a bit ridiculous, honestly, when seen in the eyes of someone unaccustomed to such a lifestyle. 02. Appearance ● Stands at a towering 6'2" with a medium-sized frame, and some muscle tone that's more for vanity's sake than actual use (he lives in an apartment complex with its own very large fitness center and he has time on his hands…yeah). ● Doesn't necessarily dress within his 'station' - he doesn't mind suits or dress shirts, but as soon as school or work is over he's in a t-shirt and shorts without a glance back.. ● Short, pale blonde hair that seems to have a perpetual case of bedhead, even without him trying. Admittedly it's probably a result of when he did attempt to make it look like that - one too many extreme stylings, he supposed. ● His completion is typically almost as pale as his hair - with maybe only two or three shades darker. He does spend most his hours in classrooms or behind a desk, after all. ● Downturned, indigo colored eyes. ● A few small scars on his torso from mostly insignificant small disasters when he was a lot younger. ● Something he's not proud of - a set of tribal-style lightning bolts are tattooed along the outer sides of his hips, mirrored on both sides, a reminder of his brief rebellious streak. 03. Personality Ryeson typically doesn't fit the image of 'big business rich society', beyond perhaps his self-confidence and manipulative ability. He's very down to earth, and doesn't consider himself 'above' a lot of things or people due to his money - granted his ego may make him feel above someone else, but that isn't fueled by his cash flow, he just considers himself awesome. There's also his habit to lose all tact in situations where there's no risk of being quoted by any newspapers or the like - social graces certainly aren't his strong points, and yet he still retains the title of being quite charismatic. His lack of motivation doesn't exactly scream 'Future CEO', either, allowing himself to simply be shuffled along by life and the plans his parents have for him with little to no opinion for himself. Generally, though, Ryeson is a good guy, if 'unfitting' for his station. For all his years of being uptight and making his own problems, you would never be able to tell it with how he is now. Easygoing and fairly good humored, it does take a bit to ruffle his feathers, and even more to knock him down a few notches. Years of parenting have taught his a patience he didn't know he'd ever possessed, though that’s not to say he's without triggers - his ego being one, for example - push on his ego a bit and you can start to get onto his 'annoyances' list. His blunt nature will normally shine through in these instances, though, because if he doesn't like something you said or did, he'll tell you flat out, which…can sometimes end badly, depending on how much the person in question wants to antagonize the heir to a multinational conglomerate. This somehow doesn't seem to effect his issue talking to people, though - he's always been very charismatic, social, and has the tolerance to deal with people he dislikes if he needs to…even if he's not entirely polite with them. He makes friends fairly well, but his trust isn't as easily given. He's not completely distant, but he's learned to at least be cautious, especially when you're going into the ruthless world of running a business. If you manage to make it into that inner ring, though, Ryeson is one of those people that is fiercely loyal and reliable to those he considering his surrogate family. He is the type that, if anyone threatened his family or friends close enough to be considered family, he'd die to save you - quite literally, surprisingly. His attitude isn't entirely unaffected by his rich lifestyle, though. He's definitely used to his silver spoon - he would die if he had to live as if he were middle class, or lower. He doesn't bother to really think about what those not so financially well-off have to go through, though he knows he would never want to suffer it. He's far, far to accustomed to the cushioned lifestyle, and would hardly be able to survive without it. He is, undoubtedly, spoiled, and used to getting what he wants. If he doesn't get what he wants, he is not above acting like a pouting five-year old, and, in general, there's situations where you will find him acting like a child in order to get his way. Beyond pouting, he's also very…manipulative, and sneaky in using any means necessary to get said thing he wants. It's an aspect that comes with being trained to be a businessman, to be honest - doing whatever you can to get what you want done. It's one of the few things that can get him motivated and get him actively trying to do something. And that's another aspect of his luxurious lifestyle - laziness. His unmotivated, apathetic nature is due to having everything done and set for him most his life, and while he does what's set to him, he isn't exactly what you'd call enthusiastic. Yes, he is the kid who falls asleep in classes - but can you blame him? Getting your MBA is terribly boring. He's doing it anyway, though - who's he to turn down a successful career handed to him on a silver platter, after all? 04. History Brought into the word at an unholy 3 a.m. on a dreary November 4th, Ryeson Savage was quite unaware of how significant his birth was to his family. First child and first son of Reynold and Teresa Savage, from his birth his life was planned for the grooming and preparation to take over the family's multi-national conglomerate. No pressure, right? Well, there wasn't for a while, anyway. Ryeson had the typical childhood of a spoiled little boy, getting just about everything he wanted material-wise, though he wasn't allowed to run about and do as he pleased, per se. He and his sister Lithany, who was only two years younger than him, however, were rather the hellion children that ruined most of the expensive things within reach throughout out large house in which they lived. His brother, Daxton, was born when he first began his first years in school, but he wasn't given a whole lot of time to spend with his new sibling. He was placed in private schools right off the bat, even for preschool, and a few private tutors every now and then to boot. This was a pattern that followed many years, even through early grades, and admittedly, he did miss out on a lot of his childhood due to it - but his father was determined to keep their business within the hands of their family, seeing as his father had passed it to him, and he planned to pass it to Ryeson, meaning years of preparation. His sister seemed to get the same treatment, however, perhaps as a backup in case Ryeson wasn't quite up to par. This tended to bring those two siblings together more than the others. His final sibling, Brant, was born when he was nine, leaving a large age gap between the eldest and youngest sons, and in general making it so Ryeson barely knew his youngest brother. Especially considering once he hit the age of eleven, he was enrolled in St. Catherine's Academy all-boys Catholic boarding school, which was three hours away from home and had a stellar reputation in academic achievements. His sister was sent to the female equivalent only a year after him, following the trend of the two of them sharing the same hell. While he would never share why he hated it so badly, he found himself on the phone countless times to his parents, begging them to let him come home. When that didn't work, he called his sister - to confide in her. She was the only one who really had any clue what he went through. After two years of what he described as literal hell in St. Catherine's (ironic considering the heavy religious presence the place had - it had its own personal church on the grounds for crying out loud), he finally put his foot down, and told his parents if they didn't pull him, he was dropping out of school altogether. For only being thirteen at the time, he must have been convincingly serious, because they pulled him out of St. Catherine's after that, and for the first time in his life, he was sent to a public school in replacement. A very highly-regarded public school, mind you, but a public school nonetheless. It was a change that was definitely an eye-opener for the fresh teen. It was another brief stint in a school, as per his growing trend. He had about a year before he was transferred to another private academy, this one luckily Catholic-nun free, but his time in the public school stayed with him for a long time, and the fact that so many other kids his age seemed so much more…free to do as they pleased than being shuffled along and information he didn't care for being stuffed into his brain. He retained a couple of his public school friends, as well, and between them and his sister, who he knew was slowly rebelling against the high expectations their parents had for them, within two years Ryeson had gone into an official teenage rebellion mode. This was another year from hell, and to this day he regrets it. It included picking up a smoking habit, getting a tattoo, cussing his parents out on various occasions, and running away from home to live with one of his friends for almost three months. All this happened amidst his high school graduation year, for that matter, though luckily he managed to somehow pass all his classes regardless. He's the first to admit that he was far more hostile than he needed to be, seeing as his parents weren't really what you would call enemies at the time. They'd offered him the choice to move back to public school, as well as his father seriously offering to drop his burden of being inheritor of the company. Ryeson, however, could hear no good from them at the time. There was a whole year and a half of this, until finally, one day, he was hit with a reality check that his parents genuinely cared about them. He was eighteen when his sister called him to tell him she was pregnant. She was only sixteen. Considering she was attending St. Catherine's all-female branch at the time, this was impressive. He expected his parents to shun her, and warned her against telling them. She did anyway. What happened next is what brought his realization that his parents loved their kids no matter what they did, even if all their high-class friends started rumors about them and their delinquent children. His parents neither hid Lithany away like some shameful secret, nor told her to have an abortion. When she told them she wanted to keep the child, and that she would marry the father if she was given permission, they agreed without any hesitation. They went out of their way to find a home schooling tutor so that she could live comfortably at home while not missing anything, and his mother was quite happy to give her daughter advice. When Ryeson was told all this, he moved back home, his tail between his legs and a shameful expression on his face. It was slightly awkward at first, but in the end it turned out fairly well. He managed to get himself back on track while there, for that matter, and after some coaxing and genuine arguments that they were only concerned about his future, Ryeson was enrolled to attend UCLA for the next term. His time before the term was spent helping take care of his sister and making amends with his parents, even going as far to shadow his father a bit, to see how the business ran. While his interest in Savage Incorporated wasn't high, at some point his logical side managed to kick in, and he told himself judging a hand-made lifetime career was like looking the gift horse in the mouth. His move to Los Angeles and his first year of classes went quite well, even if he became notorious for falling asleep in class quickly. Who could blame him when he took such things as statistics, foundations of business, and strategic thinking, though, honestly? If Ryeson thought he'd hit the worst bumps in his life with his rebellion, or even the Catholic school, however, he was very, very wrong. When he was twenty, and barely halfway through his first semester of his second year in UCLA, he received the worst phone call one ever could receive. His sister and her recently wed husband had been caught in a car accident with a semi truck on the way home from the store. Their deaths had been almost instantaneous. This left their daughter, who was only two, an orphan, and for that matter, stranded in the small home in Los Angeles where the two had moved to not but four months ago. Ryeson, despite his grief, immediately went to retrieve the girl as soon as he was told this, oblivious to anyone or anything else. It's a day he can barely remember, to be perfectly honest, and was likely spent in his apartment cradling Hannah and trying desperately not to cry in front of the girl so that he didn't make her any more scared than she was already likely to be. The next six months weren't easy. He sacrificed two semesters of school to allow himself to his grief, as well as taking care of Hannah - who, after much convincing and underhanded arguments with his parents, he was allowed to keep with him. He moved to a two bedroom apartment as soon as he was given the permission to play caretaker for now, and found himself shoulder-deep in a parenthood he didn't expect. It was stressful, but he refused to give Hannah to his parents. Not over any grudge to them, no - it was his last tie to his sister, who he was closest to in his family, and he'd always adored the little girl even before all this happened. For not having the 'maternal instinct', he picked up how to be a good parent pretty damn fast. As soon as he didn't feel as overwhelmed by it, he began his classes again - however, they were online classes, so that he could stay at home. The trend of playing parent and taking his classes online continued for two years. It certainly taught him a lot of patience and tolerance if nothing else. When he was twenty-two, and Hannah was four and heading into pre-school, he suspected she would be in fair hands with a nanny for three hours between when she came home and when he did. He began to take on-campus classes again, was assigned a trial position at the Los Angeles branch of his father's company in order to get him accustomed to the position of power, and his life picked up a normal routine again. With…some minor issues. This was when his mother began to…'sell' him to the women of the world, for lack of a better term. Girly magazines and tabloids began to have short interviews and pictures of him, and generally it gave him a whole lot more attention than he wanted. This all came to a culmination with the Reina Morrison incident. Just before his twenty-fourth birthday, he was introduced to this young woman, who was the daughter of one of his father's biggest business partners. He was pressured into dating her due to the large business opportunity that was there (his father's partner seemed keen on the idea of a merger, but he wanted something solidified to ensure equal shares), and at first, it was nice enough. Miss Morrison was a nice enough girl back then, attractive, and generally pretty fun. She also got on well with Hannah, which was a big plus. Three months after he met her, he proposed to her. Again, he was pushed into it - political marriages worked out sometimes, right? Wrong. The next four months was a rapidly declining situation. Reina became, for lack of a better term, a bridezilla. Her spoiled, possessive, and incredibly jealous nature shone through, to the point where if Ryeson even spoke to a female co-worker about misfiled paperwork, five minutes later he would be grilled about the exchange. Eventually, he could no longer take it, and he broke the engagement off. He refuses to speak of what happened to cause this to many people, and those silly tabloids, who for some reason took interest in his social life, assumed it was like all overblown marriages of the rich, and ended before it began. He couldn't be bothered to correct them. Since then he's been attempting to ignore the magazine's obsession with one of 'America's Most Eligible Bachlors', focusing instead on such important things as legalizing his adoption of Hannah (which he managed about eight months ago) and trying to finish his final classes in UCLA. It's not an easy task to accomplish, however. 05. Miscellaneous ● Rye is, technically, a father. The child isn't biologically his - it's his niece - but he officially adopted her semi-recently, and is her primary caretaker between his work and classes. Hannah has been under his care for five years now, Rye finding a new excuse every time his parents asked about taking her in themselves. She's a lot sharper than most seven-year-olds are, knows a lot more than she should most the time, though she hides it under a veil of innocence. She knows how to take care of herself (Rye does what he can but that still leaves Hannah to fend for herself a lot, so she learned to adapt), and absorbs a whole lot more information than she should of what goes on around her. She's still very much still a hyper, attention-loving seven year old little girl, though, and knows just how to look cute to manipulate people into getting her what she wants. ● Technically speaking, Rye has three dogs - Schatzi, a seven year old female German Shepherd who's the one he's had the longest as well as the designated guard dog, Finnegan, a five-year-old Irish Wolfhound who's probably the most calm amongst the three (sadly this doesn't seem to rub off on them), and Meatball, a nine-year-old Old English Sheepdog Rye rescued barely two years ago, but you would never guess he was nine with the hell he causes that’s akin to a six month old puppy. Unfortunately his babies can't exactly stay in his two room apartment, so his parents keep them at their very large family home where they have plenty of land to play on. This doesn't stop him from talking about his babies and…yes, he is the guy who will talk to his dogs over the phone every time his parents call. Without shame. |
