One of the first things that he had done when he finally reached the west coast was visit the ocean. Despite having seen images of the beach prior to setting out on his own, to actually go there and feel the wind and water was an entirely different experience. It was too bad that he could not swim otherwise he would have tried going out into deeper water. Even without his mother’s control over him, landlocked states such as Oklahoma provided him little chance of being able to go swimming.
He had come here today to see the ocean and test his own resolve. It had taken him some time, but he eventually got over his experience at the Wright office – well enough at least so that he could leave the apartment again. He had called in sick at work for the first couple days to avoid having to exit his apartment but he could not live that way forever. He did not leave his family just so that he could live the rest of his life in one city, stuck in some apartment because he was scared. If he was going to act like this then he might as well have returned to Oklahoma and got a job as some office worker. With this resolution in mind, he was able to resume normal activities although he was more cautious now. Definitely more cautious, and he avoided the downtown area as much as possible.
The newspaper had reported it as a fight between two rival gangs. Theodore dismissed the explanation. He had actually been there and he may not know what rival gangs looked like but he doubted that they were part machine. There was no doubt that the things that attacked were no longer human. It was unlikely that anyone would believe him if he came out and said such a thing. No, if anyone asked, he would tell them that he was never there.
Theodore continued his trek down the sidewalk when he realized that it had been several hours since his last meal. Needless to say, he was hungry. Unfortunately for Theodore, his refrigerator was currently as empty as his stomach. Because of his unfamiliarity with the area, Theodore was going to turn back and perhaps grab something from the Subway near his apartment when the wind shifted bringing with it the smell of freshly cooked food. The blond followed the smell to a nearby seafood restaurant. Seafood was another experience he had yet to try throughout his travels; this would be a good opportunity for him. After all, he was here already and the smell of food was irresistible.
The problem for him was that he was not sure how much cash he had on him at the moment. That was easily rectified when another change in wind blew a twenty dollar bill into his face. "Well that sure was lucky," Theodore said with a grin as he held the twenty in his hand. He suppose he should have felt bad for whoever it was that dropped the twenty but oh well. Now he would get to eat.

That should have been Kyoko's first clue as to her current predicament. But nope. She continued on her merry way, utterly lost and not knowing it. After all, she had only walked for twenty minutes (or so she thought), so if she turned back the way she came from she'd be able to make it safely back to her house without too much trouble. Her lack of direction, however, would prevent her from doing so without a hitch. From her house the beach was some five miles away - and Kyoko was only taking up a leisurely pace of about five miles an hour. And she could already see the big old blue, hell, she was walking right next to it. Okay, so maybe she got a little distracted. An hour seemed like twenty minutes to her - so what? It was her day off, and she her mind just wandered off, as did her feet. The only problem with being at the beach was, she had no idea which section of the beach she was in. Great, just great.
She supposed it would be prime time to ask for directions, but maybe if she walked around a bit she'd be able to figure it out. Living for most of her life in the city of Los Angeles sometimes had it's benefits - like recognizing local landmarks. Though she must admit, she wasn't generally acquainted with all the areas. She mostly relied on her partner to take her around. And being directionally challenged was no help at all. But she really didn't want to ask around as to where she was. She'd look stupid, and above all, she could fix this herself. She could probably fix this herself, anyways. She just had to turn back and...
Another couple of minutes walking in the direction she came, she found herself completely confused as to where to go, because nothing seemed familiar to the Asian. Ah screw it... I knew it was a bad idea in the first place. The only thing that could possibly be worse was if someone on the force saw her. She'd be the laughing stock of the station! It was already hard enough trying to get rid of her long-time nickname. Kyoko didn't want to give them an excuse to make another equally embarrassing one. No way in hell. Her pride wouldn't let her do that. But... she was hopelessly lost. Asking a random stranger couldn't possibly hurt, right? They wouldn't know her and the chances of meeting them again would be slim to none. It was a big city, after all.
And she was hungry too. Kyoko had brought some pocket money with her, for whatever reason, so she resolved to get some food as well. She had skipped out at lunch because of her little walk, and now her stomach was demanding food. That thing just wouldn't shut up, now would it? Luckily for her, she was standing right in front of a seafood restaurant. Clams sounded just about good for her. Maybe they had clam chowder. That would be nice.
And her distraction at the thought of food made her slam head-first into someone. Well that was just great, wasn't it? Hey, maybe this guy knew where he was and had a good sense of direction. This store - Cody's Clam Shack - was an unfamiliar location to Kyoko. "Sorry. You wouldn't happen to know where we are, do you?" Wait. No. That came out wrong. Kyoko knew where she was - hell, there was a big sign announcing that she was right in front of the Clam Shack. "I mean. Um. Around what part of LA we're in right now." |

The fear from the incident before still lingered in his mind and he readied himself to flee should something dangerous arise again. Cautiously he turned his head towards whatever it was that hit him and…
… And immediately felt incredibly stupid. Behind him was a small Asian woman; a perfectly normal, calm, non-mutated human female. She looked to be younger than he was but it is said that you can rarely tell with Asians. Theodore felt like smacking himself in the head. Perhaps he should see some sort of psychiatrist before he became more paranoid than he already was. Theodore tried to ignore the feeling of embarrassment and ignorance he was feeling as he listened to the woman’s question.
”Where we are?” Theodore paused and thought for a moment. ”Well I know we’re somewhere near Venice Beach. I think… Of course I could be wrong because I just got here.” Theodore pointed in the direction that he recalled coming from. ”I came from that direction so that’s where the beach was. If you continue that way you’ll see this cool park with a weird pattern on it. Then from there you turn left to get to this big street.” God, he just realized how much he sucked at giving directions. But how else was he supposed to tell her where to go if he himself did not know any of the streets here?
”Erm, did that make sense? Kind of…? Not really…?” Well this is awkward. Another gust of wind blew in their direction causing Theodore’s mouth to water and his stomach to growl audibly. ”Sorry, I have not eaten yet. I’d show you where to go if I could but I need some food first. Sorry, I could not be of more help.” Theodore looked towards the restaurant. ”Maybe you could try asking someone in there if they know. I’m sure they know this area much better than I do.” [/style][STYLE=float: left; width: 380;border: 3px solid #4a4d5a;width: 100px; height: 100px;][/style][STYLE=float: left;width: 250px;padding-left: 10px;font-size: 10px]Notes: I am a fail. Kyoko did sort of assume this, since that was the closest beach to her house, and she didn't really recall walking a long distance. But she decided to listen to him anyways - maybe some other landmark she knew might come up, but she doubted it. This man... he was really bad at giving directions. Cool park with weird pattern? Big street? Did he not know that Los Angeles was absolutely filled with big streets? "No... that didn't help much, really. Then again, I'm not very good with directions."
Now, if he happened to remember what that park was called, or what big street he was referring to, maybe Kyoko would be able to figure out where she was. Maybe in due time she should upgrade her phone with one of those GPS things and actually find her way around the city, for once. It'll be a miracle - maybe her partner wouldn't even have to drive her around anymore! The prospect of knowing more directions than the way to the station from her house, and the way to UCLA from her house, and the way to UCLA from the station... and vice versa. It seemed like a lot, but really it was just sad how little she knew of the city she grew up in.
Hearing his grumble stomach cued her own. She had been walking and hadn't gotten anything to eat. And seafood was awfully tempting. Ah, she might abandon her quest for directions - she could ask for them later. Food... and she was right in front of a restaurant. "Mind if I join you for lunch then?"
that's not creepy, kyoko >.< |

It barely made sense to him now that he thought about it. ”Sorry. I don’t know the street names yet so I can’t really give accurate directions.” What did surprise Theodore was the woman’s question. It was not that he particularly minded but it was a bit of a wonder. Not many people would ask to join a stranger for lunch but as long as she paid for her fair share he had no qualms with it. ”Sure but just so you know, I’ve never been here before so I can’t vouch for the food here. It seems pretty good judging by the growing crowd though. We should get in line before it gets too long.”
When they were in line and waiting to be seated in the crowded seafood restaurant he turned to the woman and extended his hand. ”Oh, I forgot. By the way, my name is Theodore. It’s nice to meet you.” Theodore thought about what more there was he could say to the stranger. Otherwise this was going to turn into a very awkward lunch. He could not ask about Los Angeles seeing as how she did not seem familiar with the area either. What might make a good conversation starter? ”So… have you had seafood before?’ Perhaps this – dining with a stranger - was not the best idea. Well, it was just one afternoon. What was the worst that could happen? Kyoko wasn't completely absentminded when it came to things like this. She thanked him for his rather poor directions - it didn't seem like he was familiar with this place. Maybe he had just moved here? Well, then he had a valid excuse, instead of her pitiful self. "I'm sure it'll be fine. The food smells good as well, from what I can tell..." Was she kidding? It smelled absolutely divine, though that could just be her hunger talking instead of the actual smell. Oh, who cared? She would let her stomach guide her for the remainder of the wait (why in the world did the line have to be so long?), even if it sounded like a bad idea to her in the first place.
"And I'm Kyoko. It's nice to meet you too." She took his hand and shook it. Meeting new people was always nice. Hey, maybe this guy wouldn't be half bad as an asset - if she got to know him better maybe he was an important figure that would help her out. But looking at him didn't give off any red alarms that he was one of those types. If all else failed, at least he could be a good lay. God knows when she's last had any. But Kyoko really shouldn't be thinking of these things - especially when she just met the guy too.
"Yeah, it's pretty good. Though I've never had any here. But it seems promising, with the line and what I can see from here. You? Have you had seafood before?" Who hadn't had seafood? Especially LA harboring a good amount of beaches, seafood was more than plentiful in this area.

Centuries had passed by, while all he could do was wait. Wait for when he was released once more into the world. All he could do was wait, the years passing without this creature knowing just how long he had been caged. Humans, they were smart creatures, caging him like so. What was this magic that bound him to this place, to this hidden crypt. They knew that he could not die, only slowed down, never truly dead, never satisfied. The world was a buffet, every human, young to old, they were all feeding him. Their anger, rage, as long as there was violence in the world he would live. They named him Chaos, bringer of death and devourer of souls.
He had tasted many souls in his day, only releasing a few each centuries when commanded by the three. Chaos did not need these souls, he was just a vessel, made to carry these essence of life until they were needed by the three. They may not have control over him, but he needed them, they gave him what the humans would call fun. The three marked certain humans, ones who's lives needed to end in a certain, way. Chaos, was no normal creature of flesh and bone, no, he was more. He made things happen, his breath could feed hatred, his bark could generate fear into the brave. Yet he was trapped, his mistress left him, his creator rejected him and the three forgot about him. Being a beast that could not die was tiring and fairly uneventful while in a cage. He needed freedom, he could feel the links as they started to connect to the past. What was the Master and Mistress up to? Was there a new plan underway? Was he a part of it?
Just in that moment of thought a small ball of light passed the bars of his cage and landed on his nose. The light ball shared a warmth that normally could not be felt by Chaos, but even this heat he could feel. His mistress was calling, his freedom finally here, though the reason was unclear. His prison shattered into pieces and the darkness faded around him, reveling a room. He would never return, this place built by humans, he hated it, it must be destroyed. Choas shook, in the way a dog would shake off water. The room shook, the walls cracked and the ceiling began to fall. He needed more power, the ball became his first victim in centuries. His fangs covered the light, enveloping it with his darkness. A gift with a message, he was to hunt and this gift would give him the power to do so. As debris fell they did not touch him, a barrier protected him, he was ready.
The years had not been kind, finding the hurt to be harder then expected. Time was a funny thing, Chaos did not age, and yet because of time his powers were weaken, some even missing. Now free he would make finding his powers his top mission, but first. He moved slowly, weaving through the crowd of humans. Most moved out of his way, others bumped right into him. He tried to growl, but had no voice, another thing he would need to find. Finally, his target was close, very close. Without any of his offensive powers he would have to do this job messy, but it would still be fun. He rushed in, his size only half of what he used to be, no bigger then the average doberman canine. He looked like one too, except his eyes were a dull red.
The screams were quick to reach his ears, but they did not stop him from his task. There, that boy standing next to the women, he was the target. His Claiming had been too early, or too late, Chaos did not care, all he knew was that this man had been marked. Fangs at the ready the canine like creature pounced on the young man and let his fangs sink into the back of the male's neck. As the warm blood squirted into his mouth he raked his long claws along Theo's back. The kill was quick, but still messy, yet he had gotten the result he wanted. As the boy slipped into the point between life and death, Chaos' eyes glowed an eerie red. The deed was done, he breathed in deep, ripping the essence of the Air Kingdom from the man's now dying corpse.
He watched the female before him, he was still weak and did not want her to be of any trouble for him. Now with the power of Air once again a part of his being he took a second breath, and then growled low. His power of binding once again returned to him, it would not last long though. The women would probably still for only a moment, maybe think it was due to shock or fear. That was a moment too long, Chaos glared into her soul, he would come back for her one day. After all, she smelled delicious. The beast leap off the discarded body and made for the exit, the air around his body shook, and then he was gone.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=width,400,true][cs=2] FIRE FLOWER ♣ | [atrb=style, width: 50px;][atrb=valign,top] I | t looked like she wasn't going to be getting her food anytime soon, but Kyoko didn't find herself particularly mindful of it. Food was food, and she would be eating it sometime soon anyways. The line was a bit long for her liking, and the place a bit crowded, but it was close by and she couldn't really just leave the guy alone, could she? Where was common courtesy then?
She never did get her food, she realized. After all the chaos and destruction, she never got her food. Perhaps that was the biggest thing she regretted, because it was just as she was paying that the big dog attacked the man she was with. Just her luck too, it seemed.
Because when that rabid dog killed him... she was more shocked than anything, found herself unable to move. Kyoko, for some reason, forgot about all her training and just stopped. Perhaps it was the sudden death, but she had dealt with sudden deaths before and was able to act almost immediately. But now... this was different, for some reason. Was it because this dog didn't look like a dog but rather... something was off about it. Didn't dogs usually attack more than just one person. And the way it did it... To Theo. It was as though it was targeting a specific person.
"Theo?" The dog's eyes glowed red, which sent shivers down her spine. And it was apparently that, with the bloody mess the dog made, that her companion was indeed dead. So god, why wasn't she running right now? Was this what they meant about fear taking over he body? She had never quite seen such a sight as this.
The dog left, and Kyoko finally had the good sense to use her phone and call for the ambulance. Even though she already knew he was long gone. |
