Living Situation Ana lives in an apartment overhanging the restaurant. It’s got a bedroom, bathroom, sitting area, a hallway connecting to the upstairs offices (another three rooms), and that’s about it. 02. Appearance 03. Personality From a young age Ana has been expected to take charge. There is black and there is white, and the gray area is carefully avoided. When your family runs a restaurant you’re expected to take orders, carry trays, and mop up messes. So let’s start with the good! At her best Ana is witty, teasing, and very playful. She enjoys flustering people and twisting people’s words against themselves, but in a good way. Telling a story about a goldfish? You say a certain phrase and she’ll make you pause and resay it and make you see how sexual you said it. Good job! Ana very rarely gets to do stuff for herself, so when she’s in a fantastic mood, you can expect impulsive runs down to the Manhattan bridge to count green cars, or just random fun stuff. Ana enjoys having a good time (safely of course, no jumping off bridges) and enjoys being around people. She is a social creature! Protective of her friends and family, she’d do pretty much anything to make sure that they were alright. Even if it’s not legal. As for the worst, Ana has a horrible habit of getting defensive over stupid, little things. Or worse, when she’s scared she doesn’t know how to keep her mouth shut and gets aggressive so she has some sort of shield. She’ll claw your eyes out, argue with you, and then be in a black brooding mood until she comes out of it. Then, later (and I do mean MUCH later) she’ll come…. And grovel. She can’t stand having people she cares about mad at her, but that doesn’t mean she’ll easily swallow her pride. On a regular day she likes to keep it witty and fresh. With strangers she is amiable, but she’s not going to trust you instantly. Kids are a soft spot as is family for her, and she’s been known to carry one on her hip while pouring coffee at the diner with the free hand. She doesn’t handle stupidity well though, so if she snaps at you, try not to take it too personally, she’s just wondering where your brain cells went. On a rather personal level, Ana thinks boys are interesting. They provide entertainment and headaches, and are known for that one species that you’re supposed to marry. Both of her parents are old fashioned like her immigrant grandparents and are steadily pushing her harder and harder to marry, or at least to date. Men are good looking, and at times very good kissers. Ana’s not too big on taking her clothes off for other people, or for people touching her for that matter, but she does enjoy the opposite sex and activities, such as dating or kissing or heartless teasing. It just depends on what mood you catch her in. 04. History Ana was born in the Lower East side of Manhattan nearly twenty years ago. Ana was welcomed into the family of Sebastian and Frida Johan, second generation immigrants from Cologne, Germany. Her grandparents and her parents, cousins and aunts, were present in the small waiting room, and she was passed around once she was cleared safe after a day or so in the hospital. Born healthy and happy, she was a bouncing baby and the first born child to Sebastian and Frida, ironically while on vacation in New York. Right after birth, her parents returned to Los Angeles where the rest of her family was. Her childhood was rather uneventful, but her mother added three more siblings to the roost, two boys and another girl, all of them a year and a half or so apart. Ana, when she was thirteen, went to work at the family business; Johan's, a restaurant that served authentic German food and then some American commodities, a business that had survived through the horrors of World War Two where German communities were terrorized. Johan's continued, and the food and service never failed. When Ana turned thirteen it's where she claims everything started going downhill. The neighborhood wasn't run down, exactly, but gangs had started taking over, claiming this or that territory, and Johan’s was in the middle of gang space, but declared neutral grounds. Sebastian's father, Franz, carried a gun and made it very clear that if anyone tried to pull a gun into his business, it wouldn't be tolerated. So Franz guards the store and Sebastian works the 'store', aka the restaurant, and all the cousins, uncles, and Ana and her siblings work the floor as waitresses, busboys, and bar tenders. Ana completed high school and started online college courses and night school, testing out of some of her classes because of the AP courses she took. At twenty-two she's about to graduate, and goes back and forth from school. It wasn't until this past year that her hum-dum life changed, in her opinion for the worst. Ana saw something she shouldn't, heard something she shouldn't have, from some lower Italian mobsters eating in the restaurant, planning to kill some Russian mobster when he came in for dinner the next night. So, being the responsible citizen that she was (and not wanting to have to clean up the blood from the old oak floors), Ana tipped off the Russians who frequented the restaurant quietly. The assassination was botched, but now... Ana's in a rather tight spot, as the Italians who had talked too loud knew the waitress had over heard their plans. And cops can only do so much and can't make a move, not unless "he hits you first" is invoked. So Ana went back to the Russians who she'd tipped off, and now has a lackey following her around to make sure she doesn't get herself killed. Ana couldn't have been more thrilled, and neither could her parents. (You noted that sarcasm right?) So Ana attends night school, trying to get by and save up enough money to move out of Los Angeles from her tip money, and then not get killed in the process or stray into the wrong neighborhood. Life's grand isn't it? |
