Beam me up and don't look down
Things had definitely taken an interesting turn. After her stint at the hospital, Yana had decided that she /needed/ to take a couple of days off from work. She'd been treated at the hospital with some burns on her legs, a lot of cuts and bruises, and one rib that was just a little more delicate than the others. Compared to Nate and Alec though, she looked like a brand new car next to clunkers. Alec's hospital stay was going to be longer than her two days, by far. No one had answers, and it baffled and annoyed her to no end. Everyone they had interviewed about the museum had told them about the things coming to life, the purple mist, everything. The media claimed they were all hallucinating.
Up until they found one man crushed by the dinosaur's foot, and the dinosaur's bones on top of his dead corpse. How do you explain that?
You don't. Yana sighed tiredly and rubbed a hand over her face. In her bag, surrounded by protective layers of a quilt, sat her melted laptop. She'd been fooling around with it and then had fallen asleep on it, only to wake up to the smell of melting plastic and a hand shaped melt mark on top of it. Imagine her panic when she realized that SHE had done it. The burn mark on her leg had darkened from the burn to look like a tattoo now, tribal in appearance. She didn't like it what so ever, but it was beginning to grow on her. She just had to cover it up at work now, because no one was going to believe her that it was a /burn/ mark.
Yana climbed the steps to an apartment building that Venedict had asked her to meet him at earlier that day. He said he was calling in his favor, and she had a feeling she was about to add to her debt, what with the melted laptop. Standing on the stoop, she looked at the directory on the door before buzzing the apartment number he'd given to her over the phone. Only after there was a little beep did she speak into it. "Venedict, it's Yana. Let me in?"

It was not often that Venedict had guests over. But when he did, he made sure to give them the address of his second apartment, the one that he called the backup. It was dangerous enough to have all of his information stored in movable hard drives; he did not need people finding out where he lived and infiltrating his apartment. Just the thought of anyone touching his computers irritated him. As a result, the location of his actual home was a closely guarded secret. Instead, whenever he needed to meet people, they were given the address of the backup apartment where he stored some of his computers but to a lesser extent. There was nothing incriminating there except perhaps a few older model computers that were still useable that he still cared for.
So when Venedict needed that favor from Yana, of course the first thing they would do was find a secure location to meet. Venedict doubted that Yana would have let him go to her house so easily so he decided to extend the olive branch, so to say, and invite her over to his house. This favor was important after all and he would be very upset if she failed.
On May 1st, 2013 at about 9:00AM, Venedict looked up from his code to hear the sound of a buzzer and the voice of a young lady asking to be let in. The Russian man was pleased that the girl would not run away from her promises and promptly let her into the building.
Once she arrived, he would greet her. Perhaps offer her some form of drink before getting down to business. This favor of his was very urgent and there really was no one else he could trust with such a task. Not when the target was such a dangerous individual.
Venedict had to suppress his laughter at the thought. The other members of Libertine always did make such great entertainment. [/center]

Beam me up and don't look down
Yana waited on the stoop of the apartment building. There wasn't any answer for a moment, and she thought about buzzing again, but she heard Venedict's voice and then the buzzer to let her in.
She took the stairs two at a time, a bit of urgency moving through her. Venedict was the first person she was going to tell about what had really happened at the museum. She couldn't talk to her parents, and the others had been there, they knew. So it seemed perfectly logical to her that she should tell Venedict. Why?
He was a perfect stranger, and he didn't know that she'd gone off the deep end. Or, at least, was thinking about it. Yana ran a hand through her hair and straightened out her clothes as she stood in front of the correct apartment door before knocking. She could prove it, she knew she could, she just needed someone to listen to her and help her make sense of it all.
Once the door opened, Yana brought herself back to reality. "Hello again," she said with a quick smile. Something fluttered in her stomach, she thought it might be nerves, before she walked in. "I brought you another job, by the way. It's... a bit more difficult than the last one I'm afraid. And food too." She moved over to the kitchen counter and opened up her backpack. First she pulled out a to-go container of peroshki's, which were still warm from being pulled out of the oven not an hour ago. Then, once the appetizing scent of the russian potato cakes had lured in her victim, she pulled out the laptop that had a melted hand print on it and gently set it to the side.

Venedict quirked an eyebrow when Yana walked in and declared that she had another job for him. He was the one that called her for the favor, not the other way around. And it was not so long ago that he had fixed that nasty virus on her computer. Had she really gotten another virus in such a short time? If she was one of those people that were bad with electronics, he might want to reject her before the whole situation becomes troublesome. After all, he did not want her coming to him for every computer problem she had. What was he? An IT guy? No, he may hold that position as a cover but he there was no way he would degrade himself to actually becoming an IT worker. Either way, this girl was going to owe him for whatever it was that she needed.
”You brought food?” Venedict asked, a bit surprised and a bit wary. He hated being so paranoid (it made him feel insane), but as the case may be, he had no other choice. Libertine and the Russian mob had too many enemies for him to not be paranoid. Nevertheless, the smell reminded him that he had not actually eaten in a while and once he actually figured out what she brought, he had to admit to himself that he was tempted. ”Peroshkis? Ihave not had these in years.” And indeed, living in America, it was difficult to find good Russian food anywhere. If this girl turned out to be trustworthy, Venedict might actually help her with her computer more often.
Venedict stopped looking at the food for a moment when he heard the sound of something being placed on his kitchen counter. The laptop did not surprise him; it was the melted handprint on top of the device that made him question the girl. ”What did you do it?”
Really. What did she do? It was one of his pet peeves when people did not treat their electronics well and this was no exception. The laptop’s case had been partially melted off and Venedict could see inside the casing that held all the software. There was no way he could fix this.

Beam me up and don't look down
Yana leaned against the counter as she watched Venedict, waiting for him to pick up his food first before she took a bite herself. "Yes, I brought food. I figured you might enjoy it... and it will smooth over what you're about to see." Maybe she should get him a chair to sit down in too. She didn't know how Venedict was going to react to all of this. Was he going to run around screaming, or demand she get out? Or worse, start poking at her? She didn't know, but Venedict was the unlucky one in this situation because she was going to confess everything.
"I laid my hand on it, and it burned through." Yana pushed her hands through her hair and began pacing. She hadn't slept well, she was exhausted, and she was upset that her life had been turned upside down and she had no control. She was a woman on the edge, and was slowly coming to terms with this new part of her body. "I melted my computer with my hand. All because of that stupid incident at the museum, and now I burn things. I get flustered, steam comes off my clothes. I get mad and suddenly the wooden spoon in my hand is getting charred marks on it."
Screw waiting. Yana pulled out a second container of food from her backpack that had more piroshki's and popped the lid and started eating it while she paced. Every so often there was a mutter in quick Russian. "And now you're going to think I'm a crazy girl because something like this is impossible."
Did she mention she was stressed?

Venedict sat back and listened to the pacing girl as she explained the situation to him. Venedict had to wonder what could have possibly made the girl confess all of this to him. Was she insane? She certainly looked it. But the crazy girl pacing back and forth in his kitchen was not what worried him. What worried him most was the fact that he believed her.
He had heard about the incident at the museum. He saw the reports and the news about the strangeness of the situation. And it had not escaped his notice that logically, for a stunt it did not seem possible. There was no connection between him and what happened at the museum except…
It was weeks ago but he had not forgotten. That night when he was out on the pier and the strange creature had attacked. He had escaped alive but the next day, when he went to investigate the scene, the staircase had disappeared and everything appeared as if normal. He was not insane. Yet. He understood that much at least. The fact that this girl seemed to have experienced something similar was making him think. The only difference between them was that she seems to have come out with something other than just a questionable sanity and her life.
Venedict gingerly took a bite of one of the peroshkis after seeing the girl eat some as well. But he needed proof. He could not just blindly believe the girl. So he lied.
”Well of course, I don’t believe you,” he began. He kept his voice steady. He refused to let the excitement he was feeling be revealed through his voice. He had a lead on whatever that had been and he would be damned if he let her get away or get the upper hand. He needed her to show him proof. ”People can’t burn things. Like you said, it’s impossible.” Venedict looked down at his container of food. ”For someone insane, you do make good peroshkis though.“

Beam me up and don't look down
"Well of course I don't believe you." Yana stopped, her back to Venedict. She could just picture it - he was staring at her back, probably smug in the knowledge that he was absolutely sane, and she wasn't. A bit discomforted, but fine. Yana twitched.
"Impossible?" Oh no... No it wasn't. She had eaten her potato cake by then and she wiped her suddenly sweating hands on the pants she had on. His baiting worked, because he called her crazy and then ate the food she'd made him. "You want proof?" Her voice was very innocent, and very sweet as she drew closer until she was standing at his side. Very calmly she lifted his hand and put it on the side of her face and neck. She felt like she was running a fever to the touch, but there was no sweat on her skin. Her other hand she lifted and focused as hard as she could on her hand. The heat gathered there, dancing on her finger tips in some sick fashion before she touched the laptop lid next to her previous handprint.
There was nothing for a few seconds before she glanced away from his face and to the laptop when a swirl of smoke very gently wafted from her hand. The smell of burning plastic came next as she forced her hand down into the laptop, the plastic burning away to hardware that slowly began to crumple under her touch.
Absolute triumph shone on her face as she watched his expression while her hand sank further and further into the already gutted laptop. "Still think I'm crazy, or do you need another demonstration?"

Venedict was honestly amused. When he lied and told her that he did not believe her she stopped her pacing and, if he was correct, she even twitched a bit. The Russian man had to keep himself from laughing at her reaction. Even if she was no truly insane, she was beginning to act like it.
”Yes, impossible,” he replied mildly. Of course it was impossible, he thought to himself. But he was beginning to admit to himself that something was going on. After all, he had seen it and experienced it. There had to be an explanation and he was going to figure it out one way or another. He did love puzzles, after all.
Venedict stood his ground when Yana turned around and spoke to him. ”Well, yes. How am I supposed to believe you if you don’t give me proof?” Venedict made himself out to be bored but honestly, he was very excited at the prospect of finding a new clue in this mess. Whatever this girl had to show him had better be good or he was not going to be happy.
”So you’re warm,” Venedict replied when he felt her skin. ”Maybe you have a fever.” But then the girl placed her hand on the melted computer and within moments, Venedict could smell the burning of plastic and metal. Venedict’s look of boredom had turned into one of disbelief as he stared at the now destroyed computer. He opened his mouth to say something but he could not find the words. Yana’s demonstration had left him rather speechless. The girl had the ability to melt things now. This was like something out of a movie.
”No, no need for another demonstration,” Venedict said quickly, fearing for his own electronics. ”I believe you,” he admitted. ”But the question is, what do you want me to do about it?”
Venedict would be lying if he said that he was not interested in this girl now. On the contrary, he was very interested. He would keep her close and study her. This whole thing was getting out of hand and he would get to the bottom of this.

Beam me up and don't look down
Yana took great pleasure in watching his face fall. The computer made a sizzling noise, it even sparked, before she lifted her hand. Very calmly she walked over to the sink and turned it on cold. The burning plastic went solid and she systematically peeled the pieces off her skin. It didn't rip or burn her at all! It was like pulling school glue off of her skin.
"Told you so~" Her voice was ripe with triumph as she looked over her shoulder and shut off his faucet and wiped her hands on a dish towel. She leaned agains the counter and watched him as he asked what she wanted /him/ to do about it. Honestly?? She didn't know. "For one, you better think about the favor - I've already been through a hellacious ordeal and very nearly got killed. I'll take being slapped with fines and being banned from a campus over dying any day." Dammit, she just wanted some sort of protection. She was small, she wasn't that muscular, but at least she was somewhat fast?
The frustration started to leak back into her face as she ran her hands up and down her face and then through her hair. "Venedict, I don't know. A gun maybe? Some sort of training where I'm not an easy target? Normalcy?" She pulled out her phone from her back pocket and put it on the counter - it too was partially melted. "Hell, I even burn my own /clothes/ off when I get flustered. I set the hem of my dress on fire when I got pulled over - explain THAT one to a police officer."

The arrogance and "I Told You So" sound to Yana's voice irked Venedict a bit. There was something in his personality that meant he had to be right all the time. And it couldn't be secretly right. No, he wanted to make sure people understood that he was far more superior and intelligent than them in a public manner. That bet that he won with Lukas really had not helped his ego any. Fortunately, Venedict was smarter and somewhat in control of his ego therefore he was able to ignore Yana's triumph. For now, anyway.
"What makes you think I can protect you anyway?" Venedict asked. "I'm not the best fighter nor am I proficient with handguns. What could I possibly do to protect you? Think about it." The Russian man paused. So it wasn't a total lie. He was not the best fighter in comparison to Lukas and he didn't have Nolan's proficiency in handguns. If anything, he was great at science though. He could probably give her some volatile acids and call it a day. Except, that would never do. She was important as a clue to whatever the hell has been going on in the city. He needed to keep her close if only for that reason.
"You burn off your own clothing when flustered...?" Venedict raised an amused eyebrow at the girl. "Now that is very interesting," Venedict said with a smirk. He would never stoop to forcing himself on a woman but he could use this to his advantage. Yana seemed far too innocent. This would be easy. Venedict put down the peroshkis and and shifted closer to the girl. He placed his hand on Yana's shoulder and bent down a little so that they were closer together. If she turned just a bit, it would be fairly easy to kiss her.
"Yana, calm down. It will be fine. I'll think of something. Okay?" Venedict paused to stare at her briefly before pulling away. "You still owe me that favor though. We need to talk about that."

Beam me up and don't look down
Finally, at least she had some sort of satisfaction now. Venedict believed her and she didn’t have to keep melting things any more. Yana started to clean up the mess she made and eyed the laptop that she had burnt even further. There was no way any of it was still salvageable, not when she knew her fingertip had brushed the counter. She washed her hands off in the sink as he talked behind her before peeling plastic off of her hands. Once she’d cleaned up, she tossed the laptop in the garbage can and leaned against the counter.
'You burn off your clothes when you're flustered?' Yana blushed red and shifted against the counter. "Yes, but let's not advertise that effect, okay? I'd rather not have an episode in public somewhere." She should havee known better than to say a weakness out loud. The dark haired Russian moved towards her and she thought he would just lean against the counter next to her. Oh no. Instead he was right next to her, with a hand on her shoulder, and his mouth at her ear. She went very still, and very tense, as she felt the words flow warm against her ear with his breath. Calm down? She let out a very quick whoosh of air before she slid to the side and to the corner of the counter, just out of reach. Her clothes and skin were warm now as she tried to control the power that had just fluctuated at him pulling that stunt.
She shot him a dirty look. "Tease." Favor. She wrinkled her nose a little bit, but she did owe him. "Fine, what is it you want as your favor then." She'd already outlined that sex was out of the question - although that didn't stop the sex appeal oozing off of him.

Venedict noted to himself that Yana had cleaned up the melted plastic off of the kitchen counter. Thank goodness he had this back up apartment ready for meetings of any sort. He wasn't sure he would be able to stand the smell of melted plastic in his apartment for very long. At least Yana was nice enough (or polite enough) to clean after what she had destroyed. Venedict had known people that never cleaned up their own messes. He wouldn't have to worry about something like that with her, it seemed.
Yana really did seem as innocent as they came. She had the perfect chance to reciprocate his actions and instead she backed away from him with a flustered look on her face. He had felt the warmth radiate off her body when he stood next to her. Her temperature, already was impossibly hot for a human, rose as he neared her, especially when he beganm to whisper in her ear. But then again, was she still human? Briefly, he wondered if he could get some of her DNA to be tested. No worries, that could come later.
"Your words wound me, dorogaya moya," Venedict said, feigning hurt. His expression returned to that of a smile as he thought about this favor. "You have heard of the upcoming masquerade at the Lexington Manor, yes? Well there is man there that I would like a picture of. I will get you into that party and you will take a picture of that man and bring it to me. That's all I ask. It's be simple, no?"

I'm so sorry for the late response.

Yana watched Venedict. She could practically see the wheels inside of his head turning. Over what? She wasn't sure. Probably the favor - or how he was trying to get her clothes to burn. This was probably just some ego trip for him ---- I'm so hot, I can make a woman's clothes burn off. She rolled her eyes to herself at her own thoughts as she tried to get it together.
The Russian endearment earned him a true eye roll as a smile fluttered to life on her face. "Don't use sweet words with me." Her tone was slightly warmer as she leaned against a different section of his counter. He was still too close for comfort, but she didn't want to make it any more obvious that he flustered her. She didn't really know how to handle men - they were a gender she had almost zero interaction with, except at work. Old men flirted with her at the bakery, hoping for a free danish, but that was about it.
"I've heard of the party, yeah." Take a picture of a man? Yana lifted an eyebrow. "Is the man your possible lover?" She asked dryly. "Or are you just a stalker and you want somebody else to do your dirty work for you. Don't worry, I won't spill your secret."

Yana rejected his words but it was obvious from the smile on her face that she enjoyed it. She seemed nervous but did not shy away from him completely. Venedict had dealt with women like these before - they were work but the results were always fantastic. You know what they say about the shy ones...
Venedict smirked at Yana's words. Lukas was a hot one but Venedict had not yet had the chance to actually sleep with him. He would like to, one day. Usually, they were much to busy with work and the usual. That and both of them had too much pride. Venedict could go up to him and just ask him if he wanted sex but in the end he would most likely get made fun of for it. No, if it happened, it would have to be spur of the moment kind of thing.
"I wouldn't really call him a lover... And I am above stalking. They flock to me." He flashed her another arrogant smile before continuing with his explanation. "That aside, it doesn't really matter who he is to me so long as you get the picture I am asking for. He should be fairly easy to find. Look for a man with bright red hair and really blond roots. There's no way you could miss him.
"Unfortunately, I don't have a picture to show you but that's where you come in, isn't it?
