[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style,450px,true][atrb=style,width:115px;vertical-align: bottom;]timestamp 18 April 2012 notes go here gonna go buy that random encounter now tags go here Ashton Gallant over 9000 0 0 0 0 | [atrb=valign,top][atrb=style,width:320px; border-left: 1px solid #333333; padding-left: 5px;] Alex tied up her long, dark hair in a ponytail, put on her uniform, and pinned her name tag to her chest. With the bright and gaudy outfit completed, her supervisor deemed her fit to begin her turn on the battlefield that was the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens on a weekend. Indeed, the entire zoo was swarming with children and their parents laughing and observing the enclosed animals. Alex withheld a sigh and stopped at the boundary between the staff area and the pedestrian area. Her supervisor gave her an understanding smile as if to say, it's okay, everyone has their off days, before gently shoving her out into the public area. The girl turned to give the older woman a reproachful glance but the door was already shut and Alex could do nothing but put on her official employee baseball cap and continue on her merry way.
Alex usually considered herself as someone who was emotionally stable and able to keep her emotions under control, but today was not a good day for her. Before she went to work, she decided that she should stop by to see her mother. It was only once in a while however Alexus took care not to go back home when she knew certain people would be there. Unfortunately, it seems that she was not careful enough. As she was leaving the family grounds, she was ambushed by her grandmother from her mother's side. It began calmly enough with the same old "How have you been" and "How is work?" before taking a turn for the worse. The pleasantries quickly disappeared and Alex was soon bombarded with questions of marriage and grandchildren. Alex was barely able to get away. It was not the first time and Alexus doubted that it would be the last.
It was not that Alex was completely averse to marrying and having children but if she was going to do it, she wanted to do it on her terms. She was not going to allow her grandparents to push her into marriage and have children that would grow up to be part of the society. If that were the case, she would much rather die alone. And secretly, a part of her still hoped that she could fall in love with someone. Alex did not want to be forced into a marriage like her parents were. Knowing Fate and everything in store for her, this was a very unlikely possibility and Alex did not place too much faith in that dream.
Taking care to avoid the crowds, the dark haired, young woman went to her post near the lion exhibit. There she was to explain to fascinated visitors the importance of plant life and how the African daisies factored into the African food chain. More importantly, Alex had revently planted a sapling of one of her precious trees in the area and she needed to check on its progress.
The first thing she did when she arrived at the lion enclosure was check on her sapling. Pleased with its growth and progress she returned to her spot next to the African daisies and put on her practiced smile in order to entertain and educate coming visitors. Except no one truly cared about the daisies and were much more focused on the lions. Alex inwardly groaned. If only the day could end already.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,bTable][atrb=style, width:100px; background-image:url(http://i41.tinypic.com/s67p7b.png)][atrb=vAlign,top]you can grow but remember empires always fall | [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,bTable][atrb=style, width:300px;] It’s okay, everyone has their off days.
He raced across the rooftops as though the devil was on his heels, thighs burning with exertion, blood pounding down the drums of his ears, winds howling in his face, and the world blurring into flurries reds and greens and blues spiralling into black nothingness elsewhere.
With a leap and a fall, he hurdled down a chasm between a fence and a tree, found a vine, grabbled hold, and skidded down the sides of a giant oak to a kneeling stop at the base of the tree.
The vine broke, and his feet grinded a sapling down to the dirt.
There was a small crowd off to the side, but they were too captivated by their tour guide’s antics and an enclosed lion to notice the man who dropped down a tree. The lion was asleep. A child noticed him, but turned away shyly with her hands clasped over her eyes the moment she saw him. Cute kid.
“Surprise, surprise, assholes,” said Ashton to nobody, voice rasping and crackling. He laughed, half in relief, picked himself up, and patted the dirt off his knees. He kicked the sapling beneath his feet. There was blood on his palms.
Everyone had their off days, but Ashton Gallant’s off days tended to be on the murderous side, and he handled it with the ease of someone used to running for his life. You couldn’t stay alive in this business without making a few enemies, and the government’s protection only extended so far. And if your enemies found you on Saturday mornings when you were supposed to be on a day off and planning to visit your cute little brother, you canceled your plans and ran for it instead.
Well then, take that, fuckers.
This particular group of fuckers had their second-in-command taken in during a raid by none other than yours truly, and the second-in-command had spilled an unholy amount of secrets—mind you, Ash was obligated to deny any threats or acts of violence—, and since the group could not get to the prisoner, they went after him. How droll.
Now, he was in public space. The zoo or the botanical gardens—one of the two, and his enemies were not the type to make themselves publicly known. Secret groups were secret for a reason. Time to mingle and lose himself in the crowd.
And maybe take a look at the sleeping lion.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style,450px,true][atrb=style,width:115px;vertical-align: bottom;]notes go here I’m sorry this is so late ;A; tags go here Ashton Gallant over 9000 0 0 0 0 | [atrb=valign,top][atrb=style,width:320px; border-left: 1px solid #333333; padding-left: 5px;] It was a good thing that there were no tourists currently looking to find out more about African Daisies because in the span of less than ten seconds, Alexus went from being tolerant to what could only be comparable to a mother bear protecting her young. She was in no mood to explain or even keep a smile on her face which would not do well in keeping up with the friendly public image of the zoo.
He probably thought that no one saw but Alexus did see. And what she saw made something within her snap. Her day had already been shitty in the first place but seeing the strange man kick her precious sapling lit up something within her. There would be hell to pay, and she knew exactly who she would take it out on.
Alexus quickly left her post – not that anyone cared. If the management found out, she might apologize but more than likely they wouldn’t so who really cared. Her first stop was to walk over to where her stapling once stood. The poor thing was snapped in half and Alexus knew with one look that the damage was irreparable. Her tree was dead.
Shaking with anger, she walked up to the long haired man that she identified as the one that destroyed her tree. It took all of her willpower just to resist punching and potentially murdering the stupid man. And she had the ability to do it too. Training with Arcturus was hell, but it had paid off. Sure to anyone else, it may have just been a sapling, but to her that one tree could make all the difference.
”Excuse me, sir.” Alexus hissed. Dammit all, why was she still speaking civilly and addressing him as sir? Oh that’s right because unfortunately for her, a rather large group of tourists happened to be looking at the lions chase each other around. Walking right up to him and acting like a madwoman would only get her thrown out and fired. Some semblance of sanity was needed - until she got him away from the public eye that is.
”Were you the one that kicked down my sapling?” It was a stupid question because they both knew the answer. But it was one that needed to be asked and maybe, just maybe, if he admitted his wrong and apologized Alexus would find it in her heart to forgive the asshole.
