April 28th Mid-Afternoon
Why were things more interesting when you skipped class? Hiking was normally a dull activity for Samantha. It released her energy, sure, but it didn't do much for her. Nature... So what. You'd think that living in Los Angeles would make her glad to be out of the smog and business for a change. When she went hiking with friends, the activity was a little better... But today was different. To squelch her guilt about skipping class, she needed to believe that what she was doing was well above going to class.
Truth be told, she had never noticed nature like this! The air was so clean, the smell of the trees was intense. She took the earbud of her ipod out for a moment just to listen to the sounds around her. The birds, the bees, the rustling leaves... Wait, the leaves were rustling just a bit too much to her liking. It sounded like something big was coming her way.
Both earbuds were taken out so she could listen more closely. There weren't bears near here, were there? Sam gulped and took a step back as she looked around for the source of the sound. She couldn't even tell where it was coming from. She just knew something was out there, and she was getting a bit spooked.
"Hello!?" she called. As if a bear could talk. "Is anyone out there?"

Nantan smiled down at Junya as she gracefully made her way through the trail. After working for about 3 hours earlier, he was so glad that he could change out of his suit and experience the pure air and sunshine. The smell of the earth and of the leather saddle soothed his nerves a bit, temporarily distracting him from the constant repressive presence of work. Even the heavy weight of his hiking bag on his back was slightly comforting, a silent but constant reminder that yes, he really WAS here. Junya guided them both along a low altitude hiking trail, stopping every couple hundred of yards or so to nibble on a plant or two. Nantan patted her neck affectionately, scratching her behind her ebony ears. When he first saw her as a young foal, Nantan’s heart melted. Her patient and gentle personality managed to make him drop his distant and professional exterior, eventually resulting in him begging and pleading the horse owner to let him take care of her. After a few years of gentle care, at last he had proven his undying devotion to her. Although he had never bought her, Junya’s caretaker promised that she’d take care of the mare at the ranch, saying that as long as he visited once every few weeks that she’d be his. The two meandered slowly, gently making their way across the terrain. However, before he realized it the two had meandered off the path, taking refuge under a canopy of trees. As he looked down, he became concerned by her panting. Perhaps it was time to take a lunch break, he thought as he brought the two to a stop. Stepping down from the saddle, Nantan opened his backpack and brought out food for the two of them: a bag of celery and a gallon of water for her, and a sandwich and a water bottle for him. After half an hour the two got back up, both fully refreshed. Nantan gently led her back onto the trail, hoping to just turn around and maybe head back. As they neared the trail, though, Nantan heard a woman’s voice calling out. At the sound, Junya nickered and reared away, suddenly shy. However, Nantan, feeling bad for scaring the girl, gently urged her to go closer to the path, whispering to her that it’d be alright. He was hesitant to call back as he didn’t want to scare Junya more. After a moment of struggle, Junya’s huge brown eyes fastened on his and, reluctantly, the mare stepped forward. ”I’m sorry for scaring you,” Nantan apologized to the redhead. ” Junya and I went to eat lunch. We didn’t know anyone else was out here.” He scratched at Junya’s ribs, earning a soft neigh. So, which way are you headed? Junya snorted, craning her neck to smell the young woman’s hair. With a hesitant motion, Junya did something completely unexpected for such a gentle horse: the mare leaned forward and licked the teen’s arm as a sign of approval. words 343 | tagged Samantha Moore| timestamp April 28; 3ish. | notes Junya. <3 THIS TEMPLATE CREATED BY ELYSE

Sam wrapped her headphones around her neck, and she paused her music. The humming next to her ear was distracting, and she really just needed to focus on her surroundings. With no noise in her ears, she knew there was definitely something else out there.
Imagine her surprise when a horse walked through the bushes. It was of course accompanied by a man, but still... a horse? Samantha wasn't expecting that. She was expecting it to be a bear, or a bobcat, something that would maim and eat her. A sigh of relief left her body. She was glad it was just a horse. Albeit it was odd that she had encountered one out here, although it probably wasn't unheard of to go riding out here. If she had the means to, she'd probably take advantage of it as well.
As the man apologized, Samantha waved her hand in dismissal. "Don't worry about it! This land is free to everyone, right? I shouldn't have expected to be alone." She smiled and reached her hand out to the horse. She hadn't spent much time around the animals, so she wasn't quite sure about how to interact with her, but she figured being cautious might be best.
However, the horse seemed to throw all caution to the wind as it sniffed her orange hair. Samantha giggled softly and opened her mouth to answer his question, until she felt that sticky wet tongue run across her arm. A look of shock crossed her features. Her eyes grew wide, and her lips pulled back into a grimace. A shiver crept up her spine and she wiggled a bit. It... was.. disgusting. Samantha wiggled her arm in an attempt to get the saliva off. She could just wipe it, but... then her hand would have horse spit all over it, and... well, that wouldn't get her anywhere.
Her next moments were spent freaking out and flailing a bit.

Junya did not take kindly to the flailing of the young woman in front of her. As the redhead twisted this way and that in order to get rid of the saliva, junya began to back up uncertainly, suddenly becoming skittish and unapproachable. Nantan supressed a groan as he attempted to grab for her reins. Turning his back towards the woman, he attempted to calm the horse down, nuzzling his nose to hers as he did so. After a few moments, the mare had calmed down significantly and had taken an uncertain step back to the girl. ”Sorry about that,” Nantan said as he fished in his backpack for something to help get rid of the saliva. The best he could do at the moment was an extra shirt, but at least it was clean. "Horses typically lick someone when they favor someone. You’re special; in all my years of being with her, she has never once licked my arm.” Motioning for her to come forward, Nantan instructed her to pet the horse’s nose softly. ”Junya is a gentle being and I highly doubt her intent was to scare you. Isn’t that right, Junya?” He looked into the mare’s large dark eyes, earning a flick of the ear in response. As he watched Junya and the girl, he suddenly felt awkward. He hadn’t even introduced himself yet, and already Junya had claimed her. Sticking out his hand, he introduced himself as ”Nantan Lantanya, the proud rider of this beauty.” The weather was beautiful, Junya was in a good mood, and the lady in front of him didn’t seem too dangerous. With a hesitant tone, he repeated his question from earlier. ”The two of us where just going to travel up the rest of this small trail before heading back. Do you want to try and ride her for a bit?" It really was a gamble that he didn’t often take, but Junya seemed to approve of her enough. If this woman was alright with Junya, then Nantan supposed he could make an exception. words 343 | tagged Samantha Moore| timestamp April 28; 3ish. | notes Junya probably won’t lick her anymore. The sudden and fearful movements of the horse made Samantha calm down. It wasn't her intention to scare the creature. She just thought that the saliva on her arm was disgusting... Forgetting about that for a moment, Sam let a soft smile curl her lips, and she reached out to Junya as Nantan had instructed. Her hand was a bit hesitant to touch the horse, especially because she had scared her so much, but she gently rubbed the horse's nose. Samantha smiled more. It felt like velvet! "I'm sorry for scaring you, Junya. Will you forgive me?"
She was about to pull her hand away from the horse to drop it at her side, but she saw the man's hand reach out for hers. Taking it gently, she shook his hand. When she released, she shook her head and waved her hand (though not as wildly as before) and denied the shirt that was held out to her. It wouldn't be right to use a shirt... It would just feel so odd. "Nice to meet you, Nantan. I'm Samantha." She took the time to take her iPod and headphones completely off. She wrapped the cord around her iPod and placed it gently into her tote that hung at her side. She probably wouldn't be needing it anymore.
"Ride her..." The blue eyed girl stared at the horse and gulped. Horseback riding was not something she had ever done before. With the way she had frightened Junya before, she wasn't sure it'd be such a good idea, either. Sam smiled nervously and shrugged her shoulders. "Maybe if Junya wants me to. I don't want to scare her again."

“I'm sure she'd approve, as she seems to like you quite a bit”, Nantan replied to Samantha as he open his 10 pound backpack and put the shirt away. Although it was only a short hike, Nantan couldn't help but pack all of the essentials for every hike he had taken. He simply didn't see why he should have to succumb to the elements in case of a natural disaster or a wild animal. Really, 10 pounds was nothing to him, considering the fact that it was his entire safety net when he was alone. Putting his life-sack on the ground, Nantan adjusted to stirrups on the saddle to compensate for the height difference. After checking to make sure that the saddle was safe to mount, Nantan turned towards the girl. She really didn't look as confident as she tried to sound, which was a fair indicator of her inexperience. He could sympathize with her discomfort. Apparently to most Americans, all American Indians grew up riding horses, which in reality was only reserved for cowboys and ranchers. The first time he rode a horse was when he was about her age, and he only remembered too well how hard he fell from his first horse. Fortunately for Miss Samantha, however, Junya was not one to buck and run at the addition of a new rider. With a empathetic smile, Nantan led the redhead in front of him to the horse and showed her where to hold on to get up. “Trust me, you'll enjoy it far more than you'd imagine,” he said, hoping to calm her down. “Your legs will be unused to the bouncing, but in time you'll start moving in time with her.” He bent down on his knee, making a cradle for her to put her foot on. “I remember, when I was about your age, I rode a horse my first time, too. I remember being just as nervous as you too!” He chuckled and continued, “It really was the experience of my life.” He conveniently left out how the first horse he rode had been Hellbent on escape and Nantan had been in the way. It probably wasn't exactly what she wanted to hear right now. words 372 | tagged Samantha Moore| timestamp April 28; 3ish. | notesSamantha can go either way at this point.
