There are a few choice words people have used to describe Joelle, and polite isn't exactly one of them. She is dismal, and takes blame out on everything and everyone but herself. If someone were to be her opposite, they would be bright, charismatic, charming, and graceful. Trust that no one has EVER categorized her in anything besides dreary or unproductive, including her own family, since her early teens. Always the black-sheep, always the one unnoticed in a group of people, Jo prefers solitude and being out on her own rather then amongst others. She just doesn't get along with humanity.
This is something that she has become aware of, and has chosen not to care. Only when she has something to gain will she put in any genuine effort in something, and though others may see this as being selfish she merely sees it as looking after herself - Not like anyone else is gonna do the job. The real truth here, is that she is extremely insecure with herself. She's been disappointed by too many people, including herself, to see things with a silver lining, or a cup half full.
It's rare to see her in a genuinely content mood, but when it happens you may see a smile. It's more important to note that when she IS in a good mood that she's less intentionally rude and more of a joker. Her sense of humor picks up, and she's more willing to let the small things slide. When she was young, before the drama broke out, she was a very caring person. And even though to most she may not seem like she still is, Jo does care about her family and those she gets close to. This is why she feels so ashamed of herself when they exhibit disappointment.

Lineage | [cs=3][atrb=valign,top][atrb=style,width: 450px; text-align: center; padding-left: 25px; padding-right: 25px;]
Joelle is a mix of French and Italian blood. There could be more then just those mixed in her blood, but it is much more insignificant then the two nationalities specified.
She has never learned any language other then English.

History | [cs=3][atrb=valign,top][atrb=style,width: 450px; text-align: center; padding-left: 25px; padding-right: 25px;]
Joelle was born into a middle class, typical four family member house hold. Born as the youngest to a single elder sibling, she was adorned by her parents as being their 'baby girl'. Though don't be mistaken, her older brother was loved just as much as she, and despite the 5 year age difference they got along quite well during her younger years. She was a happy child after all and he was the responsible older brother that made sure she was always watched over and taken care of without even being told to do so.
Though peace wouldn't last for very long in this family soon after this little girl was born. She began to talk to herself on the playground at school. During class time she would abruptly begin to cry or scream for no apparent reason. When her parents had conference with Joelle's teacher after a severe incident in the 7th grade, the elder woman told them that she was a disruption to the other students. Of course, Jo wasn't like the other kids, and it didn't take them until this time to really consider what was wrong with their child. Imaginary friends and fear of monsters was normal for little kids, so they had never thought it was such an issue. Though as these episodes continued into to progress, they realized that it wasn't just a faze.
Joelle was taken to multiple doctors, child psychologists and therapists, and after being examined under a microscope like a live test subject they determined that she was mentally ill. She was finally diagnosed with schizophrenia at the age of 14, and depression at age of 16. She was moody due to stress of having to deal with such a thing that no one else she knew had. Once she in turn realized that she wasn't normal, and that the things she was seeing and hearing in her head weren't real she felt estranged from not only her family, but the rest of the world.
When she hit high school, her relationship with her older brother became extremely distant. She didn't talk to him or her parents about anything really. Instead, she bottled everything and tried dealing with it on her own. She never thought they would understand what it was like, and she didn't want them to actually treat her like she WAS crazy. Though despite her judgements towards her family, all they did was worry about her. Both of her parents didn't know how to help someone that continued to push them away, and whenever they sought advice or urged their son to speak with his sister his attempts were shot down by Jo. She knew that her parents tried communicating through him and she hated that he took their side. Joelle felt abandoned betrayed by the older brother she'd once looked up to; and honestly still did.
It was a struggle to graduate high school, but she'd managed. Being the freak that saw things that weren't really there didn't make her exactly popular. The crowd that she attracted or rather was drawn to weren't exactly those of good influence either. She started cutting herself during her years of high school. She was ashamed of herself, and did everything she could to prevent her family from finding out.
After high school, she'd been in limbo of gaining and losing jobs within months of working. She wasn't good with people, nor authority. Though the ebbing desire to get out of her parents home was always a pushing factor in trying to keep a job as long as possible. Jo moved out of her parents home for a year, and within that year had only gotten worse. She'd stop taking her medication because it made her nauseous when she ate, or rather with what food she DID eat. She was low on funds constantly and skipped meals frequently. Her world crumbled to shit, and she still refused to contact her family. Unwilling to ask for help, Jo's parents turned to their son to see how their daughter was doing. Even though Joelle was at odds with her elder brother, what words he spoke to her were always more meaningful. When his attempts to call or message her failed, he drove to the place in which she stayed to make sure she was alright. He ended up finding her in her bed with an empty bottle of pills on the floor.
This was the last straw for her family. They couldn't take seeing her like this. Jo was forced to live with her brother, someone she would at least listen to some of the time, and a person most influential in her life. He still tries getting her to go see her therapist, and slips it in to conversation every now and then. He does what he can to take care of her, even when she pushes him away. This is where her life is now. With her brother trying to cope with her condition and function like a normal human being, while trying to keep her job so her brother doesn't send her back to their parents home instead. He's already threatened it once..and she'd rather not hear him threaten her again.

Hello and welcome to Twisted Fate! Thank you in your interest for joining our site. We would love to have you but there are just a few things we would like to discuss before this app can be accepted.
First, of all we would like to request that you change your display name to be in all capitals. This is to keep things uniform on the site. The title of your app should also be CIVILIAN . LAST, FIRST
Now onto the app.
Please change her birth year or age to reflect an accurate age on the site. Twisted Fate is currently in early May of 2012. Based on her birth date, she should be twenty years old, not twenty one.
Her personality is okay but I would like to see some positive personality traits so that she is a more balanced character. I understand that she has mental health problems but even people with depression have their positive aspects. It would be appreciated if you could expand the personality to include that.
That being said, we are having issues with her schizophrenia. While it is not impossible for a child (i.e. under the age of 15) to be diagnosed with schizophrenia, it is incredibly rare and they are usually placed in a separate sub category called pediatric schizophrenia. Not only that, they should have severe problems in childhood and development. Many children with pediatric schizophrenia are mentally retarded or at the very least are lagging in development. Joelle displays none of the symptoms and even goes onto have a "normal" school life and graduate on time. In fact, if she were diagnosed at such a young age it is far more probable that Joelle would have been withdrawn from the normal class and placed into a special needs class where they are trained to deal with her behavior.
Her use of medication is also concerning. There is no such thing as children's anti-psychotic medication. Any children who are severe enough to require medication would be taking adult anti-psychotics. This would mean that she would have displayed symptoms from the medication as well. You mention that she has mood swings from the medication but logically that does not make sense. Anti-psychotics will more likely calm her and help her control her emotions at the cost of a barrage of health problems including but not limited to weight gain, diabetes, pancreatitis, muscle tics, etc. It's also worth noting that nausea isn't even a standard symptom of antipsychotics--it would be a symptom of withdrawal. I'm assuming you're getting it from a symptom list of antidepressants, but it seems extremely odd they would be medicating her depression but not her psychosis.
At the moment it seems you're having it both ways. On one hand, she's such an extreme case with an early awakening, but on the other hand, she lives largely normal, has minimal symptoms from her medication, and manages to function well enough in school to graduate with minimal problems. On the other hand, she's apparently a serious enough case that she is showing symptoms as early as eight or nine, which means she's an extremely early case. If she was actually a severe enough case to be showing symptoms so early, she would be highly unlikely to have a life as normal as the one you've described. As a rule of thumb, schizophrenia (including pediatric schizophrenia) has a prodromal phase that occurs before symptoms start showing, and that normally takes a year (just to give a point of reference). To give you an idea of just how young this is, Joelle would be in the running for the youngest case of schizophrenia in history.
When you've edited, remember to post in the notification thread.

I changed the age to about 7th grade. As far as the nausea and stuff, she only started having that symptom after she moved out of her parents house because she wasn't eating right in the first place. I wasn't reading off of a symptom list I just figured if you didn't eat while taking those kinds of meds you'd end up getting sick eventually, I mean ..it just makes sense. I knew a schizophrenic in high school that graduated before me and my father works and hires the disabled so it's not like they can't function normally in society. I've met two of the schizophrenics at his work, and they presented themselves as nothing but normal. I wouldn't have even been able to tell that they had a condition unless I was watching them all day long. A lot of them had symptoms of schizophrenia just before high school and still function normally.

Okay, first of all, if you could please capitalize your user name. The display name should look like FIRST LAST. Like I said previously, it's for the sake of uniformity on the site. We like things to look nice and orderly.
Also, I believe you are missing the point of the pend. We are not saying that it is impossible for people to be schizophrenic at a young age only that it is incredibly rare. The average age of onset for women is usually twenty five so her being diagnosed at such an early age is unusual to say the least.
And we are not saying that schizophrenics cannot function normally. What we are trying to say is that depending on the level of intensity of your character's schizophrenia, it will affect her day to day life. (I myself am bipolar so I know what it is like to take anti-psychotics and struggle with day to day life.) With the level you were describing, it sounds as if she would have problems no matter how well she can control it. In elementary school it sounds as if Joelle was having a lot of problems with her mental issues as well as her medication. And yet when she hits high school, she is suddenly able to control her issues enough that she can function normally and graduate on time. All I'm trying to say is that it is unrealistic. Either she is extremely schizophrenic or she is only borderline schizophrenic.
Once you clear this up, we will be happy to look over your app again.

I'm still confused as to what you guys want.. Is it that you want me to take it out all together? I think it's a bit judgmental to think that someone with a mental condition can't graduate from high school. I know some of the smartest people that have far worse conditions graduating on time. If an idiot football player can I don't see why Jo wouldn't be able to. I didn't give much detail in how severe her condition was, I merely stated that she needed medication for it, which no matter how severe most doctors would prescribe something regardless.

Okay, let me try again. I am not saying that Jo will never graduate high school. I am also not saying that she will never function in normal society. Also, you don't have to take out her schizophrenia. We never asked you to do that.
All I am asking for is some clarification about your character's mental illness. How serious was she? Half of the app reads as if it is very serious because she is hallucinating and the other half reads as if she was completely fine and only borderline schizophrenic. If her illness was so serious that she was disrupting class and hallucinating at such a young age, don't you think she would have been held back? Possibly taken out of class so that she could get the help that she needs? She is hallucinating in elementary school multiple times. That is extremely serious even for adults nonetheless for a child. If she graduated on time because she was taking medication then state that and document it. However realistically, if she was able to control it with just medication and her own will it probably was not as serious as you make it seem. And like I also stated before, the problem with giving her medication is that you do not list any side effects. As I mentioned previously, I am bipolar. While it is not the same as schizophrenia, I take medication that can also be used for schizophrenics. Weight gain, diabetes, and worsening depression are all symptoms I need to watch out for because of it. Joelle is taking medication which helps but you make it appear as if there is no risk to taking anti-psychotic drugs.
I am not asking for you to take out her mental illness. If that is part of who she is then include it. I am also not judging her for her schizophrenia (if anything, calling a football player stupid is rather judgmental imo) I just want clarification as to how serious the illness is and how the medication affects her life. This will not only help us understand the character, it is also more accurate to real life. Twisted Fate may be a modern fantasy site, but we do value accuracy and research into afflictions, jobs, religion, heritage, etc.
Also, please fix your display name. I have asked you multiple times and that in itself is enough for a pend.
I'm afraid I will have to reject you if, after this final pend, you still do not understand why we are asking you to do this.
