tagged: open. time: may 5, 2012 - 2:45PM. speech: bailey. notes: date variable, pm me if you want it changed. How it had happened was beyond him, but it would seem that someone had gotten into his secret snack stash and eaten their way through the last of his favorite candies. Well, dammit. He had been saving those sour caramel apple lollipops to celebrate the end of finals with -- the last of which had taken place the day before at four in the afternoon and gotten out an six at in the evening. In short, by the time he realized that his favorite lollipops had gone missing, it was far too late to go out and grab another bag of them. Or several bags of them, actually -- he did tend to go through them rather quickly. Either way, he needed to resupply himself, and pronto.
Although, maybe he should consider treating himself this time around. The previous semester had been particularly grueling -- note to self, warn any and all incoming freshmen to never try to take both of their general education sciences in the same semester -- but he was feeling pretty good about all of his grades in general. Probably not straight A's, but definitely nothing below a B. (He had already gotten his grade back from his architecture professor -- full marks on his final project, much to his pleasant surprise.) Yes, he would do that -- it wasn't like he had to take all of it with him on a plane this year either since he was staying in Los Angeles for the summer. Now the only question was what exactly did he want aside from sour caramel apple pops. The answer was everything, but that just wouldn't be very wise.
He was going to have to narrow it down to his favorites, since there was no way he could go wrong with that. Or mostly his favorites -- maybe it was high time to be a little adventureous. Bailey scratched at his head as he continued to ponder right outside of a sweets shop, making mental notes on which candies to get aside from the one kind he originally swung by to get. Probably calissons if he could find them, and he was pretty sure that he would be able to find honeycomb toffee fairly easily. Saltwater taffy was also a pretty safe bet in terms of availability. Maybe fruit leathers too? If he could find the flavors he wanted. Now, what was a candy he hadn't tried before? That was actually a good question. He was having a hard time answering it.

She will chalk this rare occurrence to stress, Allison sighed internally as she walked towards the general direction of a candy store. She wasn't exactly one for sweets, preferring her savoury treats, but sometimes, a girl's got to do what a girl's got to do. And today, she was craving something unhealthy, processed and sugary.
Technically she should have been home by now, slowly going through the one item she deemed an appropriate concession from her usual fare. But here lies a problem: she knew she was going to be distracted by the sheer number of choices in front of her. Hashtag first world problems.
It's really been a while since she had candy. Not exactly conventional but it was the truth. Allison bit down on a bottom lip, feeling increasingly overwhelmed by the process of making this decision. She could already imagine the selection available on rows upon rows, and shelves upon shelves. Frankly, it was starting to scare her.
Then she stopped, realising she had missed a few turns in her internalised turmoil. Great. So now she can add being lost to her problems too. Allison turned around, taking her new surroundings; she knew that she was close because she had followed directions until a few minutes ago. Damn her poor sense of direction.
Third Street Promenade wasn't really her territory, since she wasn't really one to shop that much. Little Tokyo and Chinatown was more of her thing. Speaking of which, a bout of Korean barbecue must be had soon.
Now she's got to ask for directions and in times of dire circumstances, such as now, you have to only walk forward and ask the first person you see. Which was a really tall—was that purple hair?—male.
There was no time for shyness, she had a candy store to get to. Clearing her throat, Allison approached him calmly, looking upwards to meet his eyes. It was in situations like this where she actually felt her height. He had to be at least 6' 3" and she was a foot shorter than that.
"I'm sorry but could you please direct me to the nearest candy shop? I made a couple of wrong turns..."

tagged: allison chen. time: may 5, 2012 - 2:45PM. speech: bailey. notes: pm me if there are problems, thank you. It was probably a bit of a stretch, but Bailey had heard of flower-flavored candies. That was a bit... strange. Just a bit. But there had been one time where he had gone to that one ice cream shop in Hollywood or at least near there -- and on a dare, had tried the orange blossom ice cream they had there. (He figured it couldn't be all that bad, considering that there was such a thing as orange blossom honey and that stuff tasted pretty alright.) All in all, it had been fairly tasty -- but then again, that could just be him and his love for any and all things sweet speaking there. Still, he supposed he could buy a small sample of it if he found any. (He really should have gone to Little Tokyo to find such things, but it was too late now.)
Besides, the main objective here was to restock on sour caramel apple pops -- and probably coming up with a better hiding place too. Now, where was a place that no one would think to look for candy, but was still obvious or memorable enough to him that he would not forget where he had put them...? That train of thought would have to be put on hold for a bit though -- someone had cleared their throat behind him, and Bailey was fairly sure that it was meant to get his attention. The lilac-haired man turned around in order to address whoever had been trying to get him to notice them -- and promptly realized that he had to look down in order to see who it was. Oh. Uhm, well then. There were times that he remembered that he was, as a matter of fact, ridiculously tall compared to most people, and this was one of them.
Bailey raised an eyebrow at the question. Where was the nearest candy shop? Well, he did have that answer, but... the answer was kind of staring them both right in the face. Still, a question merited an answer, Bailey supposed, and he pointed his thumb back at the store right behind him. "That would be this one," Bailey answered, not quite sure if there was any way he could point it out without feeling... well, like he was pointing out the obvious. "If you're looking for the one that most people know about -- Sweet Factory, specifically -- it's back a couple of streets. The one over here is not as well-known, but it has a better selection on most days." Well, at least that was what he personally thought. When it all boiled down at the end of the day, it really was all simply a matter of personal opinion from person to person.

He was pointing out the obvious, however she was thankful for that. It was going to save her about fifteen minutes of detours. If she had been a lesser person, Allison would have fled in mortification with apologies galore. But instead, she blinked and nodded. How was she to know? Besides, it's just candy. Many would disagree with her on the 'just candy' dismissal but they weren't the one buying sweets today.
And damn it, she still had that craving.
"Oh. I was looking for Sweet Factory. I Googled for a sweet shop around the area and that name popped up first." Then he mentioned that this new establishment had a better selection. He seemed to know what he was going on about and perhaps he could even help her with her dilemma.
"I'll have to trust you on that." Why not? Between him and her, Allison's information was clearly inferior, and so was her height. Also, why couldn't she have just gotten a craving for the Earl Grey macarons or the green-tea mochi ice cream from Little Tokyo? That would have certainly spared her a lot of grief.
"If you don't mind me asking, what would be your recommendations? I'm not exactly a regular when it comes to candy." Allison sighed and then sucked in a breath when she realised she was being rude.
"I'm sorry. I haven't thanked you yet for your help. Thanks. I'm Allison. Nice to meet you."
She's aware that this isn't exactly the most conventional way of meeting someone and she wouldn't take it personally if he had just nodded and moved on. Just a matter of choice.
It's a free country, after all.

tagged: allison chen. time: may 5, 2012 - 2:45PM. speech: bailey. notes: pm me if there are problems, thank you. While he wasn't exactly going to go as far as to call himself an authority on what constituted as "good" candy or not -- as mentioned, this shop was just his own personal preference when picking between the two establishments in question -- Bailey was fairly willing to lend a hand. That being said, he wasn't even sure if she had the same taste in candy as him, but seeing as how he pretty much liked almost every kind of candy that he had tried so far, it was a pretty safe bet that they could find something? Unless she liked black licorice or something along those lines -- he wasn't going to recommend that, since it was the very few candies he wasn't fond of.
Speaking of recommendations, Bailey scratched at his head as he tilted it and said, "Recommendations... that would depend on what you usually like -- hm?" Well, that was an abrupt change in subject, though he supposed it was reasonable. He hadn't really taken either notice or any sort of offense earlier when the girl -- Allison, she had said -- had jumped straight to asking him about which candies to get, but it was only common courtesy. Seemed like a universal enough concept, he supposed. "It's not a problem," Bailey replied, then added. "I'm Bailey. It's nice to meet you as well, Allison." There was... still the matter of recommending candies to her though.
After another moment or two, Bailey said, "Well, if I'm going to make an informed recommendation, I'm going to need to know what kind of candy you like first." He was really hoping that she would say "anything" because that in itself would give him both just way too much and just way too little to work with all at the same time.

Bailey, the name somehow suited him, even though it was a name more common amongst females. Or at least, that's what she believed. It was the name of her favourite Irish cream. Adding a bit of bourbon to that, or even Kahlua, made it even more fantastic. Was he Irish? Because that would be funny— Allison stopped that train of thought from evolving since she just met the guy a few minutes ago asking for directions.
Allison took a moment to consider his questions, "Candy is not my first choice when it comes to a sweet craving. I prefer desserts. What I like? I usually go for the salty and sweet combination. But I'm not really against trying new flavours... though I am not so sure about things that are too sour..."
The fact that he was actually helping her out with such a mundane issue really did say a lot about Bailey. A gentle giant, perhaps. The girl then sighed, perplexed by the situation to come. Spoiled for choice, Allison could feel a headache building.
"I'm sorry, I'm making it a much bigger deal than it really is. It's just that I've got this craving..."
She sighed again and frowned slightly, uncomfortable with inconveniencing others at her expense. Allison was just that kind of girl. Cautiously, she tried to her best to make some conversation.
"What about your favourites? Something tried and tested can't go wrong, right?"

tagged: allison chen. time: may 5, 2012 - 2:45PM. speech: bailey. notes: pm me if there are problems, thank you. Actually, if Allison had asked him if he was Irish, Bailey would have taken no offense whatsoever. He would have simply replied that yes, he was half-Irish. It was the truth, and there really was no shame in it for him. Nor was there any particular pride -- he would simply be stating a fact and nothing else. Now, had Allison brought up the part about his name reminding her of a particular Irish cream, Bailey would have raised an eyebrow, though more out of a dry sort of amusement than annoyance. His entire name, after all, seemed to be one big joke. His first name reminded people of an alcohol. His middle name reminded people of a particular brand of hot sauce. His last name brought on a slew of whale jokes that never seemed to end. Needless to say, he was just a little too used to this sort of thing.
"Desserts are nice too," Bailey replied, because it was true -- desserts were, as a matter of fact, very nice. Things like banoffee pie, tartufo, and creme brulee among other tasty, sweet things that came after dinner were all things that he enjoyed. Maybe he should go buy something dessert-y before he went home later. Yes, that would be a good way to celebrate the end of finals. "Hmm... salty-sweet things... maybe look for candy with nuts in it? Those tend to be more savory than most candy. Unless you're allergic to nuts -- you'd be hard-pressed to find any candy that is savory-sweet in that case though. Unless you find buttery flavors to be savory too." Well, there were some people that did. He wasn't one of them, but... he had known some people who did. (He still couldn't fathom how butterscotch could be savory...)
Bailey tucked the note about Allison not liking sour flavors too much in the back of his mind. Alright then, avoid things like Warheads or anything with sour powder on it. "It's fine, don't worry about it," Bailey said when the girl apologized to him. (She hadn't exactly done anything wrong, so really, she didn't have to apologize for anything.) "You want help, I have time. It's really not a problem at all." It really wasn't -- he wouldn't be helping her out in the first place it if it was going to be too troublesome for him to deal with. "Well... my favorite is the sour caramel apple pops, but you said you don't like sour, so I wouldn't recommend those for you. Hmm... chocolate-covered malt balls, maybe? The malt can come off as savory sometimes. What else...? If you like green tea, they do sell green tea candies... Ah, what kind of desserts do you like? They... might have candies flavored after them."

"Hmmm," Allison paused, "I'm really in a mood for nuts but we can try some buttery flavours? The French uses it as a base for a lot of dishes, so that might work? As for desserts, salted caramel anything is great. I had a deconstructed banoffee pie inspired dessert once with banana gelato, whipped cream, salted caramel sauce and graham cracker crumbs. That was pretty good."
There were some things Allison would struggle with on a day-to-day basis in terms of conversation, like family, but when it comes to food, it's just as if she's commenting on the weather. Easy, breezy, not so much Cover Girl but chef talk.
"Do you think they have banoffee pie sweets?" She tilts her head to one side questioningly, the gears in her head moving. "I can try some chocolate malt balls, I've never had that before."
As much as she's cautious, Allison never said no to trying anything culinary once. It's food, she lived to eat, and if she disliked it, at least she knew what to avoid next time. So far it's been watermelon, coriander and bitter gourd. The latter two was logical but watermelon had been something that perplexed most around her. And while she had tried her best to acclimatise, the taste and texture of the fruit never one did appeal to her.
"Green tea? Oh, I really would like to try that. There's a shop in Little Tokyo that sells the best green tea ice cream mochi... and what other desserts... hmmm.... chocolate cake with salted caramel? Salty and sweet popcorn is also delicious... vanilla ice cream with butterscotch sauce..." Alison wrecked her brain for some more before she remembers one particularly weird combination.
"And chocolate covered bacon."
Her expression made it hard for others to determine whether she was joking or not. But food was a laughing matter. She had baked pain au chocolate with bacon bits in it and it had been heaven.

tagged: allison chen. time: may 5, 2012 - 2:45PM. speech: bailey. notes: pm me if there are problems, thank you. "Sounds fair enough," Bailey replied, though if anyone looked closely, they might have seen the metaphorical lightbulb go off in his head at the mention of salted caramel. How could be forget that? Salted caramel was the holy grail of all things savory and sweet, of course that was the answer! He supposed that his physiology final had fried his brain more than he had initially thought if something that obvious hadn't been the first thing that came to mind. "The last time I was here, they did have these caramel squares with sea salt sprinkled on top -- and that does sound really good, the deconstructed banoffee pie you mentioned just now." How could it not sound good, when he remembered banoffee pies as miniature slices of heaven?
Food was one of the things that Bailey could go on for hours over. While he wouldn't really consider himself a top-of-the-line epicurean connoisseur of all things culinary, he was one to keep a list of good food places -- you could never go wrong with having plenty of places to eat. "I don't think I've seen a banoffee pie-themed sweet here yet, but there was a banana foster-themed one before, so it might not be too far off until they come up with one." If there did happen to be one today, then Bailey knew for a fact that he would probably snag himself a share to take home. Sweets were indeed one of his greatest weaknesses, for better or for worse. (It was probably more the latter than the former, but in this case his sweet tooth won out by a mile.) Allison's growing list was doing nothing to quell his sugary cravings either.
If anything, it was just making Bailey hungry. (But then again, when was he ever not hungry?) However, he needed to focus -- he was still trying to help Allison out with coming up with a selection. "I remember that there are two green tea ones, actually. There is a hard candy one that I like a lot, and then a soft one with rice paper wrapped around it -- I don't know if they still make the second kind though. And they do have this thing called popcorn brittle if you like popcorn. I think they have a kettle corn and caramel corn variety. Not sure if there's one that straight-up butter though." And then. she mentioned chocolate-covered bacon -- which in all honesty, he had heard of, but hadn't had a chance to taste-test before. "I've actually never had chocolate-bacon anything before," Bailey admitted, tilting his head a little with a bit of a "hmm" sound. "... Actually, I'd want to try that if I ever get the chance to."

Bailey really knew candy, rattling off flavours and choices without even so much as a breath in between each. Allison wondered exactly how much candy did he had to consume in order to reach such a level of expertise. She paused, deciding that it was probably for the better that she didn't know.
"I do have a soft spot for green tea. Yum."
All this talk about sweets was really getting her excited to finally being able to choose a select few to savour slowly. And maybe even get inspired for a new dessert or two. She wasn't all that surprised that Bailey hadn't had some chocolate bacon before, sure people talked about it but not many would actually go the lengths to actually make it.
"Bacon is a surprisingly versatile ingredient. I actually tried bacon with maple syrup, essentially candied bacon. Unexpectedly phenomenal. I had it with vanilla ice cream and waffles. Breakfast of champions. You should definitely try it some time, "Allison nodded, "I think I'm ready to brave the world of candy choices now."
Her expression turned solemn and forbidding, as if she was about to head into a warzone. Maybe that was an accurate comparison.

tagged: allison chen. time: may 5, 2012 - 2:45PM. speech: bailey. notes: pm me if there are problems, thank you. Well, he wasn't going to lie, he did go through a lot of candy each year. It was kind of like comfort food to him, really -- which probably wasn't very good for him at all. (Actually, who was he kidding, it was awful for him.) He supposed the only reason why he wasn't overweight was because of how much he ran -- that, and he had his mother's supposedly legendary metabolism. At least, that was what his father had called it on several occasions. While his genetics had left a few mysteries in its wake (such as his height, because he towered a good six inches over his father and had at least a foot on his mother), there were blessings too, and how his body processed all of the sugar he consumed was one. Or something like that. Bailey wasn't a scientist.
"In that case, I definitely recommend the green tea hard candies," Bailey replied when Allison commented that she did, as a matter of fact, have an affinity for the beverage. Actually, he could get a couple of boxes of those too, it had been a while since he had bought green tea candies. (Although Bailey was starting to wonder just how much candy he was going to end up going home with today at this point in time.) "Ah, actually, that makes a lot of sense," Bailey said at the mention of bacon and maple syrup. "Both tend to go along with pancake breakfasts, so I can see where the idea came from. And I think you might just have solved my dilemma over what to eat for breakfast tomorrow just now." Because waffles and ice cream along with bacon and maple syrup? Four delicious foods -- he was, without a doubt, sold.
Bailey had to give a bit of a smile and a soft chuckle at Allison announcing her foray into the candy shop as if she were about to go into battle against an army of giants. Well, he certainly hoped that she would find choosing what candies she wanted to be a less daunting task than that, but then again, choosing anything could be a bit intimidating when one had a plentiful selection to choose from. "If it helps any, I've tried almost everything they sell here at least once," Bailey said, looking over at Allison as he spoke. "So if you need an opinion over whether or not something is good, I'll probably have one that I can offer you. Although... the final say is yours, because chances are that you will like things that I don't like as much."

Surrounded by the shelves, it would be an epic battle against giants. One might even go as far as to compare the makers and distributers of these candies as giants too. That works. Metaphorically. Then when she heard that Bailey had actually tried almost everything in the shop, she got disturbingly curious.
".... Almost everything?" The girl almost pouted, it's unfair that guys could eat what they wanted and still stay relatively in shape while most girls had to continuously make sure that their figures are maintained. While she didn't mind the exercise at all, it was still injustice. That being said, Allison was still rather impressed.
"You must be singlehandedly keeping this shop afloat." Allison stared that the lilac-haired male. She didn't even know how that was even possible (it probably just amounted to many, many trips to this particular establishment and quite a few dollars) but she resolved to get that small stash of candy that will tide her over this craving and the next.
She then made her way into the store and lo and behold, it was a candy emporium. Shelves upon shelves greeted her sight and she almost balked at the sheer amount of brands and types of candies that awaited her perusal. A tad overwhelming, she decided. Thankfully it wasn't serious enough to induce a panic attack because that would have been interesting to explain to her new acquaintance.
In a way, Bailey was her very own candy fairy.
Though she wasn't going to voice that out loud just yet, she did possess some tact, thank you very much. Now where were those green tea candies that came recommended? Though, she will have to admit that she was quite interested in his favourites as well.
"Maybe you could give me a grand tour of this fabulous establishment and show me what you like? I'm curious. If that's okay with you, of course."

tagged: allison chen. time: may 5, 2012 - 2:45PM. speech: bailey. notes: pm me if there are problems, thank you. "Yeah, I tend to drop by here a lot is why," Bailey said, shrugging his shoulders a bit. "Candy tends to... disappear in my apartment, and me eating my way through what I buy is only half the reason." A pause, and then he continued with a tilt of his head, "Sometimes, it's because my entire stash goes missing for no reason. Like the other day." He had his suspicions as to where the candy might have disappeared off to, but unfortunately, he had no proof at the moment, and therefore couldn't exactly do anything about it except... well, buy more candy to replace the missing candy.
Bailey gave a small, amused sort of smile at the comment about him being the reason why the candy shop was afloat, and said, "Well, if I am, then I hope that I'm doing a good job of it." While he sincerely doubted that was the sole customer that the shop saw on a daily basis, he did know for a fact that he was a recognized face. Well... they recognized his hair. It was kind of hard to miss bright lilac hair, you see. That, and he figured that if he had all of the aisles and their wares memorized, he had been there more than enough to be considered as a well-remembered regular.
"A tour? Well, I suppose I don't see why not." Again, he had the shop layout memorized -- it shouldn't be that difficult, to be perfectly honest. He supposed that he would start at the aisle nearest to them -- the place where the most popular sweets were kept, so people could easily find them. This section included a lot of chocolate things, Bailey noted. "This would be where they keep the... bestsellers of sorts," Bailey began, also examining the boxes and display cases as he went along. "If you like chocolate, chances are that you'll find something here." He picked up a box to see what it was. Chocolate peanut butter cups, it turned out to be. Hmm... maybe. Bailey set the box back down and made a note to grab it later if he couldn't find anything he wanted more. "Also things like Jolly Ranchers and gummy bears."

"You should consider a side project like reviewing candy on the Internet. I'm pretty sure people would benefit from your expertise like I am right now."
Allison surveyed the bestseller's rack and finally decided on a pack of golden butterscotch. it should ease her craving for the next month or two. She followed Bailey around the shop patiently as the much taller male picked out his selections. If she had to be honest, she wouldn't mind trying out some of the candies Bailey had purchased. But then she was probably just being a glutton and hungry. Just like her mother advised, never go into the supermarket hungry.
You will emerge with things you never intended to buy or eat.
Anchovies, artichokes and Amaretto made their way into the same basket once but that's a story for another day. The bill was quickly footed and soon they found themselves at the same bus stop. Just her luck, the bus she was taking to get home arrived the moment they reached the stop.
"That's my bus, thanks for your help today." Allison looked up into Bailey's face (darn his height) and smiled slightly. She really was thankful for his guidance. "Maybe I'll see you around in the shop one of these days. When I get another craving."
She had been counting on him saying his goodbyes too but instead, the lilac-haired man stepped on board as well. That was certainly unexpected. They both paid and sat down before Allison cautiously asked.
"So which stop are you getting off at?"

Bailey picked up a bag of lollipops as he spoke. Ah, yes, these were the ones he was looking for, perfect. "Hmm... I suppose I could. Though only if I find time to do so." It was a possibility though, and it wasn't like he had to update it daily or anything. He entertained the thought as he continued to peruse through the store. In the end, Bailey ended up buying a bag of his favorite lollipops along with... four bags of other sorts of candies. Five would do for now, though he suspected that he would be back sooner than he expected if history managed to repeat itself. Which it always, seemed to, for one reason or another. Why it did was another question entirely though. What to do...?
Getting everything paid for went by quickly enough, and Bailey found himself walking with Allison to wherever her bus stop was -- which happened to be the same bus stop he was going to go to himself. "It's not a problem, glad I could -- huh." Heck, it even seemed like they were getting on the same bus. Well then... maybe they just lived along the same route? That was entirely a possibility. It was still a surprise though, and he had raised an eyebrow at discovering this. "Well, that was unexpected." Nonetheless, he quickly paid and took a seat next to Allison just as the bus started to move. Where was his stop? Well, couldn't hurt to tell her where it was.
He told Allison which stop it was, specifying that it was about halfway between USC and UCLA. That was kind of what happened when you and your friend went to schools that were supposedly cross-town rivals -- not that Bailey particularly care about that sort of thing at all. No, not at all -- he had better things to do with his time. "That would be where I shall be getting off the bus... whenever we get there."

That would just be too much of a coincidence.
"That's my stop too."
One of the few reasons why she had picked that apartment complex was due to two reasons that went by the names Coco and Nellie. Her cats wouldn't have been able to stay with her in most student housing options. It would be heartbreaking to send them back when they've gotten her through so much. They were family as much as they were pets.
"Do you happen to have pets too?"
Coco and Nellie had been gifts from her father when they had moved to Korea as an apology. She had been wanting cats after her dog had passed away just mere months before they changed locations again. Her father had brought her to a pet shop and she remembered peering through glass, fascinated. At the end, it boiled down to a black and a white kitten. Allison had been undecided then as she looked down on two rough, pink tongues licking at her fingers. Suddenly, her father declared that they were getting both of the kittens.
She has had them since. Which reminded her, the cats were nearing their fifth birthday soon, time to plan a little and send out invitations. Ying will want to be there, for the food., even though she'd argue that she will turn up for the cats. | [cs=3]template by pianissimo of BTN |

Well then, that was actually a pleasant surprise. At the mention of pets, Bailey nodded and said, "I have a betta fish." He paused, and then added after a moment of silence, "... Named Jaws." Yes, he had named an itty bitty fish after a fearsome great white shark, deal with it. It had seemed like a good idea at the time, and while he still questions nightly what the hell was going through his head at the time, the name had long become stuck. Needless to say, Jaws was going to remain Jaws for all this days. Well, at least it was a funny and amusing name to call a fish.
"My roommate has a pet pug though," Bailey added. He actually really liked the fact that pets were allowed in their apartment, actually. (Maybe it was high time that he got the pet hamster that he had always wanted as a kid. Maybe -- he was still debating that idea on and off.) "... We call him Puggerpillar." Leave it to Callum to name a pet after an internet meme. Bailey, for better or for worse, honestly expected no less from boy he called his best friend. "Ah... I'm guessing you have pets too then?" Well, he had assumed it to be so from the "too" in Allison's question.

Perhaps you should attach a grey fin, that could be something new in the bowl." Two could play the deadpan game. Allison had to arch an eyebrow at the name "Puggerpillar"; she honestly had no idea what to make of that name or the person who gave their pet such a moniker. For some reason, she had a feeling that she would regret knowing, so she didn't ask after.
"Mhmm," she hummed, "I have two cats. The black one is Coco and white Nellie. I've had them for a quite a while now, and I chose this particular apartment complex because pets were allowed. I'm not fond of the idea living without the cats." A fond smile graced her face and she shrugged, elaborating a little more.
"Although I'm toying with the idea of a new addition, perhaps a dog. That might work out, though I'm not sure how Coco's going to react to that. He tends to be a little temperamental at times while Nellie probably would just go along with it, she's the sweetheart."

"Might live up to his name a little too well then," Bailey commented, though he did have to wonder for a moment how one would even attach a miniature shark fin onto a betta fish. It certainly didn't sound like a very viable endeavor, much less one that was good for the fish -- though he wouldn't put it past some people he knew to go ahead and try. Best not mention this to any of them, now that he thought about it. No, definitely not. Actually, why was he even thinking about this in the first place? (He could not deny that the ridiculous notion was entertaining to ponder over though...)
Now Allison had him curious about her cats though -- he was rather fond of cats, to be perfectly honest. "It is difficult to find one that will allow pets, yes," Bailey responded to the bit about the apartment. "Perhaps I can rope my roommate into bringing his dog over sometime?" Bailey asked, then added. "To see how the cats react. It might be the best way to tell if they'll be alright with a new dog around the place."

"That would be really kind of you to help me with a test run. The cats have yet to be around another pet because no one has ever brought them to my place before. It's different when its their home turf." Allison was concerned about the potential's newcomer's place in the house, especially because she had a feeling Coco might be inclined to assuming the top spot in e food chain. It wouldn't be out of character for the black cat. Then she smiled at the purple haired male.
"Jaws can come too. I'm pretty sure the cats won't devour a shark."
Then they finally reached their bus stop and alighted. "Thanks for helping me today, I would have been embarrassingly lost if it hadn't been for you. I hope we meet again, since we do live in the same apartment block." She gave him a tentative smile and waved. "Have a good day."
She felt good as she slipped away first because she made a friend, which was always nice and a little rare for a person like her. But she wasn't going to spurn friendship when it was built on sweets and pets.
