Cook- Hakuba works in a small restaurant in Little Tokyo, cooking traditional Japanese food. The pay is decent, and it’s good practice, but he still holds out hope that one day soon he will be the executive chef at a restaurant.

Hakuba is a very serious and stoic person, rarely showing emotion. He grew up watching his father be stepped on by more assertive people, and refuses to let people treat him the same. Due to this, he has a rebellious streak, often disobeying authority, and getting into many physical altercations. People may view him as jaded or callous, but he is a nice enough person all things told. If he sees anyone being bullied or abused, he won’t hesitate to step in, usually leaving a few black eyes in his wake.
He is a proud person, not vain, but carrying himself with an air that could be mistaken for vanity. He always makes sure he is clean-shaven and always wears a nice jacket over a button-down shirt. He likes peace and can be quick to lash out at those who disturb the peace. Some would call him a delinquent, and they wouldn’t be far off, though he doesn’t see himself as such. He considers his violent answers as a form of justice, standing up for those who are bullied or walked on.

Hakuba was born to two normal parents in Tokyo, his mother a housewife and his father a salaryman. His father was a meek person, constantly stepped on by his coworkers and boss, which Hakuba grew up watching. His mother was a stronger person, aloof and beautiful. As he grew into childhood, his mother always made him promise not to end up a weakling like his father, even signing him up for martial arts lessons throughout his childhood.
When he entered school, Hakuba always dressed up, under orders from his mother, who always told him to dress for success. He was a polite child, though reserved and somewhat shy. He never acted out and rarely played with the other kids, though he would participate in group activities during class. One day at recess, one of the older kids was picking on a classmate of Hakuba’s, and none of the other children tried to stop it, which confused him. He asked the bully to stop, and when the older kid laughed and refused, Hakuba launched himself at the kid, breaking his nose. He got in trouble for this, though among his classmates, he was cheered on as a protector.
As he went higher in the grades, he became increasingly laid-back and reserved, often skipping class to nap in the student lounge. His grades still excelled, though his relationships with his classmates suffered, due to his lackadaisical attitude towards class. Others tried to bully him, leading to him often getting in fights, winning almost always, and causing him to pull away further from the rest of the student body. Even when he witnessed a younger student being bullied, he wouldn’t hesitate to step in, fists flying. His near-constant fighting eventually caused his teachers to expel him from the school at the age of 16. His father grew sick after this, forcing Hakuba to get a job himself to help support his parents.
He worked in a local noodle shop, waiting tables at first, then moving into the kitchen after a year of working. He instantly knew that he wanted to cook, there was such a sense of peace when he was working in the kitchen. It was his domain, and once he got moving, he wouldn’t stop, a dervish of energy while he worked. However, he was still the delinquent that had gotten kicked out of school, and started smoking in addition to getting into fights over the smallest offenses, much to his parents’ chagrin.
At 18, his father passed away. His mother began a job at a local shop to try and make ends meet for herself, and Hakuba broke the news that he was moving. He had decided to make a life for himself on his own, and with his mother’s blessing, he packed up and left for California. He found an apartment and found work in Little Tokyo, and settled into a rhythm, working to try and save up money. He planned to find a job in a nicer restaurant, dreaming of an executive chef job. However, he still finds himself seeking peace in the hustle of the city, often retreating to the roof of his apartment building for a nap or to the Botanical Gardens for some quiet. He still finds himself getting into fights, usually with the young kids roaming the streets who think the Japanese man in the fancy clothes will make an easy target for wannabe gang members. He makes sure they know otherwise.
