Today was May 3. Today was a new day, but it was not a wonderful day in the least. Today Alec had become a changed person.
For starters, sleep came rather easily the previous night. The mansion from hell...the hordes of bugs...the blood...it all seemed so surreal. But now, having actually slept very well, Alec knew that it was no dream. The scars on his leg proved it. His sanity was suffering, but for some reason he had been feeling better than he had in a while. At some point during the night, something clicked. Everything fell into place, and Alec finally began to see that these changes...all of these new things happening to him were part of something greater. The teenager claimed no real bond with any religion, which kept him open to pretty much anything he would decide on in the future. And now that may come in handy.
He awoke the next morning around five, feeling completely rested and fully alert. He was in a strange place, and the bed he was in wasn't the same he usually slept in. And then he felt the arms. Big, strong arms were holding him close to a giant, chiseled body. For a moment, he blushed, but he didn't dare wriggle around and awake the giant. Instead, he slowly and carefully slipped out of the burly man's grip and gently rolled over, edging himself off the bed and to his feet. His first instinct was to shower, but he needed to get some of his things first. All he had was his tattered clothing, which definitely looked like it'd taken a trip down the garbage disposal. In just a few moments, Alec had moved around in the apartment complex and found out where he was. Lucas had taken him home, which he didn't mind one bit. After last night, nothing much seemed to surprise him.
Within an hour and a half, he had already taken a bus to his home (which was actually closer than he realized) and grabbed some of his belongings. He packed lightly, making sure to tiptoe through his house and not wake his Dad. He was probably worried sick about him not coming in, but Alec left him a note stating that he was going to be staying with a friend for the next few days. With his phone charger in hand, he grabbed his duffel bag containing clothes, his tablet piece, and the mysterious scroll along with some personal items and took the bus back to Lucas's apartment complex. He left the door unlocked, which he felt really bad about, but nothing had been taken. He seemed to live in a decent enough neighborhood. Well, something like that. Alec had seen worse...
About twenty minutes later, Alec stepped out of the shower and put on his clean clothes. His thoughts seemed to elude him when he tried to remember all that happened, but he was rather hungry and that seemed to take over. Now it was nearing seven, and Alec hoped that Lucas would wake up very soon. But in the meantime, he inched quietly across the floor and into the living room where he sat on the couch, plugging his phone in and playing a game or two with it. He couldn't find his knife, which meant he probably lost it somewhere, but maybe Lucas had picked it back up. But at that time nothing really affected him. He had given up worrying about it all because right now there was not a single thing he could do about any of it. Instead, he would wait for Lucas to get up and stir.
Then the real conversation would begin.

notes And so, the emotional out pour begins.count 592tags Alec Matthers The evening had been one of the most eventful in his life, and Lucas wasn't quite sure how to cope with it all. When he first moved to Los Angeles, he had been hoping to get away from his father, and begin branching out his bodybuilding career. So far things had been going well, having had found a sponsor. Money wasn't to great a concern anymore. Other things could occupy his mind. Like who he was. For the longest time, Lucas could have sworn he was just an ordinary guy, gifted with the ability to pack on muscle with ease. Instead he found himself the reincarnation of a cleric from an ancient kingdom. The idea of it was mildly concerning, and he wondered if he was doing his past self justice. Probably not. He wasn't a warrior, and he was certainly strong, but a large amount of his muscle was decorative, not actually strong. He should fix that. Just after he dealt with the bundle in his arms. Alec was special. For the first time it felt like someone was looking at him, and seeing past the wall of flesh. Someone could look in and see the mildly worried, average guy that Lucas was inside. Granted he had a bit of a temper, he was happy Alec had never had to see it. In the night, Lucas had set Alec down to sleep on his bed, slowly curling himself around the kid, waiting for sleep to come. It came quickly, and heavily. Soon Lucas found himself locked in one of the deepest sleeps he had ever experienced. He barely stirred when Alec climbed out of bed, when the sun rose or when the birds began to sing. The only thing that could wake him up was the rumbling in his stomach. Lucas blinked slowly in the sun, rubbing his eyes for a moment as he came to terms with who he was. Every morning was a repeat of the same. Figuring out what his name was, where he was and who he was. Sometimes when he slept in a different bed he forgot half of that information. It was only when his feet touched the floor that he remembered he was Lucas O'Connor, Bodybuilder and probably in his bedroom. Looking around as he sat up, it occurred to Lucas that something was missing from the picture. Something small, but ferocious. He didn't own a cat, so that wasn't the answer. He got up slowly, wearing only boxer-breifs as usual and strode out into the main living area of his apartment. He looked over at the couch and slowly nodded to himself. That's what was missing, Alec. Lucas smiled gently at the boy, unsure if he was looking that was or not. Lucas had a few thing to do in the morning before he could afford anytime to talk. In silence he hurried to the fridge, and grabbed two instant meals. They were bottles of a high protein shake with a few supplements he threw together when he had time. Made breakfast a whole lot quicker. He grabbed one of the heaviest weights in the living room and sat on the couch, placing a bottle beside Alec as he opened his and took a swing. Without even setting it down, he began to curl the weight, slowly and steadily. This wasn't about building mass for, it was about building mass for power. “Your awake, good. That's for you, it's strawberry flavor.” Lucas said quietly, not looking at Alec directly. “I'm glad you're safe.” template by jetplane of btn

Distracted from all other worldly things, Alec hadn't noticed Lucas when he first got out of bed. He was engrossed with his phone, keeping him from noticing most anything around him. It was when he heard footsteps heading back into the living room that Alec realized his friend was awake. He smiled warmly at the man, not mentioning the whole "waking up in his arms" deal. To him, he didn't mind it so much. It felt like someone wanted him and that he was being protected. It was weird, mind you, it was something that he himself could get used to. Setting his phone in his lap, Alec launched his arms outward in a rather awkward stretch as he yawned. Huh...I'm not tired. Where'd that come from...
"Morning. Feeling much better than last night." When Lucas reached out and handed him the breakfast in a bottle, it took every fiber of his being not to frown. His stomach saw that and nearly laughed, causing a very loud noise to echo in the quiet room. "Er, thanks. And I'm glad nothing bad happened to you either..." There wasn't much else he could say right now without getting into detail with things. What Lucas didn't know was that after he had woken up some more, Alec had every intention of talking to him about the strange things happening. He wanted to tell Lucas all about the museum and the convention center ordeals. It seemed like something was out to get them, so it made sense to discuss things and come up with maybe some sort of idea about what was going on.
Carefully unscrewing the cap, the teen took a sip of his "breakfast" and let it settle. The flavor definitely wasn't the best, but he was hungry and was in no mood to complain. Lucas, however, wasn't going to be as lucky - as soon as he had some energy, Alec was going to demand a real meal. He couldn't do this whole "shake for breakfast" thing. In that moment, showed as much appreciation as he possibly could. But then again he was also distracted. "You...um...really don't have to lift weights right now..." It was becoming a bit awkward; while Alec enjoyed seeing Lucas's toned body, he had zero motivation to look at it first thing in the morning. If he wanted to show off, why didn't he wait until a more appropriate time of day?
Then the real conversation would begin.

notes Cue le sap storycount 265tags Alec Matthers The Large red head chuckled as he watched Alec yawn. He took another long swing from his bottle and looked at the boy, trying to get a look at his leg. The bugs were stingers, and the legs were the closest to them. Lucas looked over at Alec slowly as he stated he felt better. ”you look a lot better two, seems you slept well. Nothing overly bad happened, compared to what I’ve gone through since I moved here.” He sighed gently, remembering the man with the metal eye, and the building. Then Alec was at his side for the scenario at the gym. It felt like, no matter what he did, he was always in the heat of battle. Lucas continued to lift the weight slowly, counting the seconds in his mind. Three seconds up, three seconds down. He lifted once more, and over and over, pushing himself more than he ever would have before. ”Actually Alec. I do. I’m weak. These muscles aren’t strong, just big. That’s not good. In my line of work it’s common to starve and dehydrate yourself. I can’t keep that up if something crazy and beyond anything I’ve ever imagined wants me dead. Lucas slowly let the weight drop. It struck the ground with a loud thud, as something finally clicked inside the man’s empty head. ”How in the world am I still alive…”He slowly looked up at Alec, not sure what emotion to feel. ”Alec… What’s been going on?” He said, somehow hoping that the small boy next to him would have the answers he wanted. template by jetplane of btn

It wasn't long before the conversation quickly escalated from simple chitchat to something more serious. But it was a necessary evil that both of them had to face. Before jumping in, though, Alec continued with the idle chatter in hopes of easing into it. "Thanks. I've got some cuts and some sore spots, but it definitely looks much better than what I thought it would." Alec turned his legs over and around, bringing them up so he could see them well. He was lucky, too, because he had been in some more serious accidents. Against his better judgement, Alec leaned forward and lifted up his shirt so that Lucas could see the still healing scar. "Got that at the history museum in Exposition Park. It has a story to go along with it, too." Alec leaned down by the couch and grabbed a bag that he brought, unfastening the snap and pulling out a slab of rock. He handed it to Lucas, pointing out the strange writings on the tablet. At the same time, he presented a crinkled piece of paper with some more strange writing on it. The teenager pointed to the space on the couch beside him before speaking. "I want to talk to you about this. It's really important - maybe you can figure this out. I sure can't." He carefully handed the objects to the ginger, not making eye contact. "Oh, and one more thing." Alec held out his left arm, wrist up for him to see the odd tattoo. He took a deep breath, looked over at the man, and began his story. "I'm not going to go too far into detail, but this is basically what happened. I was seeing a counselor at first because my dad thought it would be a good idea. Mr. Jenkins told me it would be good to get out and relax, but it turned out pretty badly. We were all locked inside of the history museum, and I helped lead two others to the second floor where we found this tablet. We fought some prehistoric animals and barely made it out alive. It was almost like I could hear this piece of a tablet calling out to me. I felt such a strong connection with it, which makes me believe that it has something to do with the Spirit Kingdom, which is where I believe I have descended from. Or maybe I was just chosen - I really don't know how that works. I touched the tablet, and I was impaled just a mere inch or two away from my heart." He took a long, deep breath and continued talking some more. "I feel like I don't belong. I was never the smartest person in the world, so why I'm having all of these dreams and feeling this close connection is beyond me. Why I was chosen to be involved...it doesn't make sense. But I can tell you so many things about the Spirit Kingdom that I really don't understand. I can even picture faces of people that lived then. Maybe it's an alternate universe. Maybe it was all in the past. Whatever the case I really don't understand it, but I know the facts. And somehow I'm part of all this. And you must be too, because of your green aura that I can see." He reached out and touched the man's arm, seeing his faint purple-like aura wrap around Lucas's soft green hue. "I know that scroll in your hands is very important. I can't read it, but maybe you can. I found myself able to read the casing that the tablet was in, but nothing more. I feel like this scroll has answers. All I know is this: I'm part of this big grand scheme that involves elementals, crazy women that help kill these elementals, and other people that are from different kingdoms similar to the one I'm associated with. Lucas, we're alive because we have a role to play in all of this. And..." Alec looked up at the man, face hardened and lacking any emotion at all. "I'm going to need your help. I don't think I can do this alone. I've met some friends and nearly been killed with them, but Lucas I want to be by your side."

notes I really don't know what to write in these notes.count 366tags Alec Matthers Lucas examined Alec’s leg for himself, taking in the various cuts and scraps. Nothing looked like it was infected, or festering, but only time would tell. ”Good. He said, mostly to himself as he looked up at alec, listening to the young boy. He carefully took the scroll, worried he might crush it. He looked back at Alec, then down at his hand. So he had one of the marks too. So he had had his own adventures with the monster before they had even met. He looked down at the hunk of rock alec had brought with him, did he even remember that from last night? ”It called to you?” He believed Alec, it made as much sense as a man suddenly developing a metallic eye. So... Alec may have descended from the spirit kingdom. And he was helping him. That through brought a small smile to Lucas’ lips. What were once warring kingdoms were slowly working together. He blinked when Alec mentioned being impaled. ”Hold on, something almost killed you!?” He said, with a little more anger than he meant. The redhead knew how Alec felt, not feeling like you should be somewhere, and a parent make the decisions for you. ”I know what it’s like. That’s why I came here. To get away from not belonging. I’m not really sure either, Alec. I think it might be in the past, but... all I know is that I used to be a cleric of the earth kingdom. So you’re right on that point.” He stood up slowly, demonstrating his own rune on his hip bone. ”You’ve seen what I can do with metal, this is how. I think.” He sat closer to Alec, placing an arm around him. He felt like he should tell his own story, but he couldn’t get the words to approach his mouth. ”You know I’d help you. and... I want you to be by my side too.” He felt a blush forming on his face, almost matching his hair. ”I made a promise in that dining hall last night, i’m going to carry it out.”He slowly looked up at Alec, not sure what emotion to feel. ”Alec… What’s been going on?” He said, somehow hoping that the small boy next to him would have the answers he wanted. template by jetplane of btn

Alec really didn't know what to say at this point. He sat there feeling so drained; it almost felt like one of those out of body experiences. He could have sworn that he could see himself, sitting on the couch and staring into space. There was just so much swimming around in his head for anything to make actual sense. He knew that whatever was going on he would accept it. Denying what had happened so far would be foolish. He had enough sense to know that now, at this point in his life, he was destined for something much greater than just going to college. No, that wouldn't be enough. His purpose was something much more grand but also something much more deadly. How much longer would he have to risk his life battling crazed elementals that did nothing but cause him ache? His Dad was probably worried sick about his mental health, and honestly Alec was surprised he hadn't had a meltdown just yet. No instead it was taking a much greater toll, one that could leave him a lifeless shell for a very long time.
But that's where Lucas came in. Somehow, this ginger managed to pull at his heart strings in a unique way. He had feelings of some sort for the man, however odd that sounded, but he was keeping him grounded. At this point, though, all Alec could really feel was Lucas next to him. It didn't matter what he ate, despite his previous disproval of the instant breakfast, because he simply could not feel much right now. Lucas was doing something no one else had been able to do - keep him grounded. And for that, Alec was silently glad. But this discussion was far more important than anything else, so Alec forced himself to keep going on his side of things. "Yeah whatever it was called out. It wanted me to find it...but when I made it there, it nearly killed me. Weird I know." He hadn't the foggiest idea who or what it was that was really doing it, but his only guess was the tablet. That was something he had yet to figure out, but right now he had many other things to discuss with his ginger. His Lucas.
And it made him smile, just a bit, to hear the worry in his voice. "Yes it almost killed me, but as you can see I'm fine." A thought occured to the teen, and he promptly ask Lucas about it. "What's the big deal, anyway? I'm pretty sure that tree monster thing was trying to kill us all. Whatever we've gotten ourselves into is bad. Really bad. And we're in it for the long haul, like it or not." It was a pretty sad thing to hear him say considering his upbeat demeanor, but he couldn't shake the feeling that things were about to become much more complicated than he ever anticipated.
"Earth cleric, huh? Wish I knew what I was...Something important I'm guessing. I remember the faces of people in the castle, but I don't know their names nor who was in what position." The teenager eyed Lucas's rune, and all of the times that he saw the man reaching down by his side just before doing something crazy made sense. He was using his own symbol to bend metal. Heck all Alec could do was look at people and see their aura, and most everyone he had encountered was a lovely shade of gray. Alec leaned back and closed his eyes for a moment, allowing his thoughts to run wild and the memories to take form in his own mind. "I can clearly make out so many people. They took me in because I felt out of place, almost like I didn't belong. I was a part of something great but the details...I can't remember them. I can remember greeting them and thanking them for what they did." His eyes slipped open and he turned to look at Lucas. "In my dreams. But there's always something coming - something bad. I never make it that far, but I know something bad is about to happen. I wish I could hurry up and see what happened so it would stop bothering me."
There was a long pause between Lucas's last question and Alec's next answer. There was also plenty of uncertainty in the young man's voice, but he had never spoken truer words. "I don't know, Lucas. It's ridiculous. We may die or we may be lucky enough to live through this all. But if things get bad, I want to be there with you if....if something happens." Without thinking the young boy slowled inched over closer to Lucas and rested his head on the man's shoulder. It was awkward for all of a second because he felt comfort. He felt the strong man close to him. And somehow he knew that things were going to work themselves out.

notes Better then a text!count 340tags Alec Matthers Lucas looked down at the young man; there was no way he could call him a boy, not after what happened last night. So much had happened in their lives in such a small amount of time. It had only been a month or so when he went to that law office. ”Alec… you shared your story with me… I… I just can’t yet.” He sighed, as the words weren’t working. He was definitely scared, and mostly ashamed. He should have killed the man when he had the chance, but he let him go. He felt something on his shoulder, something soft. He smiled as Alec moved closer. This man had awoken so many odd feelings inside himself. Ones that caused frustration, frustration he took out on weight sets. Parts of himself he hated resurfaced for the first time in years. He swallowed hard and smiled. He was going to protect Alec, he promised that, but he was going to need to be stronger. Not bigger, or better looking. Wordlessly, he looked at his own phone, sitting across the room on a small tablet with his keys in a bowl. ”One sec.” He said as he got up. His hands trembled as he reached down and cpicked up the phone. He looked back at Alec and nodded. He had to change, for the better. ”Yeah hey man. It’s Lucas, uh… O’Connor. The bodybuilder. Yeah umm… just wanted to leave this message. Um… I quit.” He closed his phone, glad his sponsor wasn’t already in the office. It was easier to leave a message like that. He walked back over to Alec and smiled. ”Things are going to get hectic. So no more travelling, no more competitions and no more ritualistic starving myself. I made an oath last night, Alec. I want to be sure I can keep it. I need to be stronger for you, not just bigger.” He gazed into Alec’s eyes and blushed. ”I just hope… that you think of me as more than just a bodyguard…”template by jetplane of btn

He knew, deep down, that Lucas was probably not feeling the same about him. It was fine, really, because Alec didn't even know how he felt about the man himself. He did know that he wanted to be close to him at all times, and he admired his strength greatly. The teenager found himself looking into the ginger's eyes, trying to assess how he felt right then. He could see the apprehension in Lucas's face as he decided not to share his story. Nothing was coming as a surprise because apathy had taken over. Now, for some reason, he wasn't feeling all that well. It felt as if his throat were a bit swollen...swallowing became a bit more difficult, too. It couldn't be anything major, so Alec decided to ignore these feelings.
Those next few moments made Alec feel something - but what was it? He couldn't quite place it, really. But Lucas was throwing away his job and his own way of life to protect Alec. It made the teenager feel important, and in that moment, through all of the pain and the chaos he had been feeling, he could do nothing. One small tear trickled down his face, stopping just below the corner of his mouth. His voice wavered, feeling a bit of strain to speak. "You...you didn't have to do all that..."
In that moment, Alec turned to face Lucas and wrapped both arms around the man, holding his head against the man's chest. The tears finally came broke loose and flowed freely. He knew that the ginger was probably feeling as awkward as Alec normally did, but he didn't care - right now he needed the man's warmth. He needed to hold onto something real. He needed Lucas. He simply nodded as the man spoke, knowing that any attempts at speaking right now would be futile. Feeling the itch of his sinuses beginning to drain down his throat, he coughed into his left elbow. Immediately the young man's eyes widened in surprise; coughing shouldn't hurt that badly unless someone is sick. Alec certainly didn't feel sick other than his throat bothering him. But that's when he looked down at his elbow and saw blood.
The tears stopped and Alec quickly let go of the bodybuilder, afraid of what was going on. Lucas..." Speaking had become more difficult but far from impossible. Another fit of coughing sent Alec almost to the floor, small sprays of blood covering his pants (and thankfully missing the couch and floor). Pain seared through his neck; something wasn't right. He was feeling just fine earlier, and now all of a sudden he was coughing up blood. His eyes, now teared with pain, looked up at Lucas, pleading for him to stop the pain. If it got any worse Alec was going to need to visit the hospital.
...but the problem was that it was getting worse. Alec was feeling worse and worse, and before long he felt as if his energy were simply being zapped away. He reached for his phone and managed to dial 91 before dropping it onto Lucas's lap, violent coughs shaking his entire body.

Lucas held Alec closer then he had ever held anyone before in his life. He smelt like shampoo and soap. It was a change from the sanitization and sweat of the gym. Lucas liked it immensely, it was almost a sign that his life was changing for the better. He calmly rubbed Alec's back as he nuzzles into the boy's ear gently. At the moment, he didn't care how Alec felt about him; he wanted Alec, more then he ever wanted anything else in the world. Falling asleep with the boy between his arms had been one of the most soothing moments of his life. It had excited him, yes, but the feelings of tranquillity washed over him like the rolling tides, and he had found a moment away from the screams of the earth.
"Yeah Alec. I did. I... I want to protect you, I want to be with you. I want to... God damn it I want to do everything with you right now!" For once in his life, Lucas wasn't lying about who he liked. He liked Alec, if not loved him. This little guy was so frail, weak and needy, and for some reason that was exactly what Lucas wanted. He whispered gently into Alec's ear has he felt the warm tears running down his chest. He wanted to hold him closer, tighter and wrap him in all the love and warmth he could ever muster. "I... I really like you Alec... I'm scared to say the word, but I think you know what word it is." He whispered, just as he heard Alec begin to cough.
He looked down as he felt the young man pushed away, looking down as well. His heart beat quickened when he saw the glimmering red stain on the boys elbow. "Alec..." He said, scared. He wrapped his arms around Alec, trying to support him. Lucas felt something hit his lap as Alec coughed even louder then before. He grabbed the thing, seeing it was a cellphone. There was a half dialled number, one Lucas was glad was the same as back home. He hit the "1" button, and then "call" and listened to the ringer. Each buzz was like a drill that sank his heart lower and lower. "It's going to be okay, Alec. I got you... You're going to be okay..." He said, mostly reassuring himself, until finally a female voice came through on the other line.
"Nine One One, what is you're emergency?"
"My b...boy... My friend, he suddenly started coughing up blood!"
"Sir, I will send the paramedics out as fast as I can. What is your address?"
Lucas quickly gave the lady all the information she could have needed. He stroked Alec's cheek gently, wishing the paramedics would arrive faster. "They're on their way, Alec. Let's get you to the hospital. They'll fix you up, just like they did me." He said trying to reassure the boy wanting to hug him tightly, but didn't out of fear of choking the boy.
Seven minutes was feeling like an eternity.

Alec hadn't ignored his friend - each word pierced through Alec's heart, permeating his soul and making him feel whole again. Through all of these trials and tribulations, Alec had finally found something, no someone to live for. Lucas O'Connor. And now, as he lay coughing and nearly choking on his own blood, he was helpless to respond. Those feelings inside of Alec stirred, urging the young boy to speak and voice his deep love for the bodybuilder, but his physical condition prevented any such thing. Lucas managed to finish called 911, and by then Alec had nearly stopped his coughing fit. The teen knew something was very, very bad and somehow wondered if the encounter their previous night might have had something to do with it. Less than 24 hours ago he had been stung and cut by those creepy bug-like creatures and he knew that he had lost enough blood to make him feel weak, but did they carry some sort of toxin? He couldn't react fast enough when it all happened, and now, sitting here just moments after the ambulance call was made, he hadn't the slightest urge to cough. But he knew something still wasn't right. Pleading eyes look into Lucas's, begging the man to make the pain stop. His throat seared with a burning sensation, pain level escalating as blood trickled down his throat. Again, he felt the urge to start coughing, but he knew that if he started he might not stop. Eyes watery and burning, Alec laid his head on Lucas's shoulder, waiting for the paramedics to arrive. He felt bad about them coming out and finding him sitting on a couch, but there was no telling if that coughing fit was going to come back. That and most people didn't decide to randomly cough up blood. Speaking wasn't the best idea right now so Alec stayed quiet during those few moments before the paramedics arrived. 3 Hours Later Alec, dressed in only the finest of hospital wear, sat on a very uncomfortable hospital bed waiting for the doctor to come in. As soon as he arrived, the staff administered every kind of test imaginable, attempting to locate the source of the blood. The door opened suddenly, seeing a white-robed figure step into the room with a clipboard in hand. Behind him followed a petite nurse, blonde with green eyes, carrying a small folder. Since his incident, Alec had only spoken when asked a question, and informed the staff of the increasing pain in his throat. The doctor spoke in a deep, commanding voice, slightly spooking the scrawny kid. "Looks like throat polyps. These look to be cancerous, too. We're going to have to remove them through surgery, but we're all booked up for the next two days. I can schedule you for Monday, May 7 at 9:00am. That will give you some time to rest before having to go through with this procedure. It's not bad enough for immediate surgery just yet as we see no possible reason for it to spread, but do not use your voice unless absolutely necessary. We're not very certain how you never noticed these before or why you're just now having trouble with them either. But we're going to remove these in a few days and you'll just need to rest your voice up after that. My nurse here will fill you in on all of the details. Understood?" The teen nodded and received a prescription to ease the pain. He also was instructed to drink only water and limited amounts for the time being. Food was probably out of the question, but Alec couldn't give all of that up just yet. He looked over at Lucas, smiling through the pain in his eyes. It could have been worse, right?
