Living Situation Tangi lives alone in a studio apartment in Los Angeles, which is littered with trash and beer bottles. She sleeps on an air mattress and tries to avoid most of the outside world that doesn't involve her job. To make ends meet, she works as a janitor at a rich High School in Santa Monica during the week and on weekends as a gas station clerk. One could describe her situation as, 'pathetic', but that's what happens when you drop from a fancy-schmancy art school with loans to pay back and an extremely proud Afro-Latino family that refuses to help you out.02. Appearance Let's make one thing clear: Tangi is a full-grown adult female. A lot of people mistake her for a student at her own job and barely tipping the scale at about 5'0 and 109 lbs, it shows. Tangi is a very, very diminutive individual, which is ironic, considering most of the people in her family are very tall. As most things go with being a really short person (as well as being really poor), it's really hard to find good clothes. As such, she buys her wardrobe at a lot of thrift shops and hand-me-down places. Save for a few dressy-tops and skirts/dresses, she's usually seen in androgynous, boy-ish clothing. After vowing to never cut her hair since her eighth birthday, she now sports long, brown colored tresses that fall down her back. Tangi has brown-green eyes that are usually seen in a permanent glare, as if she hated the world itself. Or in a reddish/drug induced state. Probably from the fumes coming from the chemicals she deals with on a daily basis. Probably. 03. Personality Tangi is a self-deprecating, gluttonous, loser with low-self esteem problems who also has a professed love for geeky pursuits, art, food, and animals. Having to grow up the first person in her family to actually go and graduate from college is a big burden to place on a person's shoulders, so because of this, she's often to prone to critical, hateful language towards herself. "I'm a failure." "I'm so flippin' stupid, man." "God, why is life so hard?" Of course, she often keeps these feelings to herself, to not appear as if she's a whiny, unappreciative brat, according to her parents. As if to pacify these feelings, she often uses alcohol and food to distract herself from her unhappy existence. Lately, she's tried to control her drinking habits and opts for tea or water, instead. Video games, particularly, online ones or mmorpgs, are a way for her to relax and use her extra time for something semi-productive. As secretive as she is small, she's not a fan of moving away from her own comfort zone and can sometimes view other people with the same type of suspicion one would towards their own worst enemy. Because of this, she's not the best at making friends. All in all, Tangi is the type of person that has a long way to go if they ever want to move out of that dark, emotional hole that they've dug themselves into. In Tang's case, it's a foot taller than herself and she has no ladder. 04. History There was a time, where Tangi was as hopeful, and as friendly and outgoing as any person in the supposed prime of their lives. Unfortunately, life has a way of changing even the nicest people. Tangi is the youngest of five girls, and as the daughter of a teacher and a construction worker (among other things...) it was drilled into their heads that were to be the best of what they could be. Of course, most of her sisters ended up either dropping out or marrying at younger ages. By the time she was in the middle school, most of the family pressure was placed upon her. Still, she was a bright kid, and took it all in stride. She wasn't exactly popular, but she had a few friends, and was a lot more happier with her life. It was in high school where her personality began to take its first nose dive, and at 14, she began to notice how her friends would drift and leave her to her own devices. She grew more withdrawn, more sad, and her parents became more distrustful of her own actions. "Why do you need a job? You're a student! You wanna get pregnant like your sister, Monica?" The pressures only became harder, her friends would eventually abandon her and her parents offered her no support or consolation. Instead, she began to turn to video games and books to make up for the lack of a normal life she had. When it came time for her to apply for colleges, she had zero support and scrimped most of the fees for herself. Once enrolled, she assumed that she was finally at the beginning of her life and was ready to start anew... but it was all of the same crap she experienced, before. She didn't even graduate. Her parents refused to take her in, and for a short time, she lived in a few women's shelters and couch hopped from sister to sister. After a year of this, she finally had enough and decided to look for an apartment for herself and she found one...even if it did turn out to be a piece of crap. Currently, she takes online classes from a local community college that'll probably drain her finances even more and she hides from most of the world. Still, she prefers this to a life of being homeless, but her life is still very directionless and lonely. Time will tell whether or not she can finally grow up and become a fully realized adult, but for now, she has money to earn. |
