She has a few pupils but they're much younger then her making them seem like a class of kids. Though she's young, Erika was raised under rough circumstances accelerating her learning of various martial arts techniques because of the harshness of her master back in Thailand. Though she's easily underestimated, Erika's quite brutal which is why so few stick with her classes, but at the same time it is efficient in teaching everything needed to survive life or death battles even if they don't happen in this day and age. At heart, Erika likes to think of herself as a traditionalist. She constantly preaches about how people need to consider 'The Old Ways' more often and experience more life or death situations to become real adults. She'll sometimes even throw her pupils into metaphorical fires or rough training regiments just to push them to collapsing so they can experience what it's like to lose every ounce of your strength. Though she's very tough with the ones she teaches, many are secretly grateful for her strange forceful ways that help to give rougher youths a new shot at a brighter life by teaching them honor, respect and teamwork even if she has to become the villain in the process. Even while she thinks of herself as a traditionalist though, recently, Erika's recognized the struggles that come with sticking to the old ways. Having a hard time pulling in enough money to support her dojo and herself with Muay Thai and Muay Boren, she's forced to apply her art to various new things she didn't experience back in Thailand. To help pull in a few extra dollars on the side, Erika works occasionally as a stunt woman or Martial Arts film adviser. She'll give quick lessons to actors and teach them proper motions and theories of her various arts to ensure they can put on a good show for their audience when filming takes place. When she's not working or instructing, Erika will spend her time lurking in the streets looking for a particular group who assassinated 02. Appearance Erika has a smooth milk chocolate tan that's been with her since her youth, spending so much time in the hot thai sun fighting in as little as possible to keep cool and not dehydrate herself. Keeping her hair long and pulled back into a well kept pony tail, Erika makes sure there's no chance her hair will come flying into her face during combat, but keeps it long enough to be a distraction for others. She tends to stick to tight form fitting clothes whenever possible, usually she'll have some kind of driving gloves on her hands or in her pockets to make sure she doesn't destroy her hands with her own punches. One of her few feminine charms comes in the form of sashes that she enjoys wearing to be decorative or cute since she doesn't wear earrings, rings or necklaces out of habit. She has various scarring along her body, though some have worn away with time and can't be seen quite so easily, a deep look into her skin will usually reveal various different claw marks, cuts, scrapes or damages that she's sustained over the course of her short life. 03. Personality Erika's a very bubbly and happy go lucky person. She'll usually always be smiling in some grand way or grinning slyly when she finds something that amuses her. Like a cat she'll take the time to study things that amuse her and play with them thoroughly as she pleases, but this gets her into trouble more often then not. Even while being happy and bubbly, Erika is brutal in the way she teaches and fights. She believes in putting people down efficiently and teaching them thoroughly leading her to bloody her victims considerably to ensure they can't threaten her any more and push her students to collapsing to ensure they're aware of their capabilities even in exhaustion. Erika tends to be very flirtatious in how she acts, if someone arouses her interest she'll lose almost all concept of personal space and spend her time hanging or draping herself over them without restraint. It's gotten her into a fair bit of trouble here and there but so far she hasn't been called out for it too harshly outside of awkwardly ending a few encounters and dates early. Even when turned down or refused, Erika still smiles, keeping herself up beat and optimistic no matter the situation, she finds good in everything, including failure. It only drives her to try harder and continue doing her best for herself, and the people that count on her. 04. History Theme Music: Somnus Nemoris Korra's life started in a large family. Her parents were well known historians and modern day adventurers braving ruins and dig sites where they uncovered various artifacts and unique ancient tools. The youngest of 5, Korra had a lot of expectations placed on her from the start. Her older brothers and sisters each were gifted prodigies in one field or another, and grew up with their parents' praises while they supported their gifts. Even Korra eventually came to realize she had a gift for sculpting. Ever since she could remember, she was playing with clay and building blocks trying to make things in her play room. Every innocent day of her childhood before school was filled with fun as her parents encouraged her to grow and keep building and playing their attention was fulfilling and made her eager to build more for them, though it began to change as she started school. Ever since the beginning of her schooling, Korra didn't learn quite as fast or well as other students, she was a C student at best and her parents began visiting her in the play room less and less. Their attentions instead went towards their travels and expeditions to discover new things and research more about the world, Korra, just like the rest of her siblings was secluded and left alone to try and learn and grow on her own. Quickly growing saddened and despairing from the loneliness, Korra buried herself in sculpting and building because it was the one thing her parents praised her for. Unlike normal children, Korra spent all of her time in the playroom, researching arts, learning techniques professionals used and finding videos to watch to teach her with the help of her nanny. Korra was slowly developing unique skills in elementary school allowing her to sculpt well, but even that didn't buy her parent's attention. Instead she only got more frustrated as her oldest sibling began going on adventures of their own like her parents, she grew angry that she wasn't allowed to share in the happiness and adventure. It caused her to grow even more irritated as her art became an obsession. She started looking to try alternative materials to grow even more skilled, switching from clay and to stones and woods, Korra worked religiously to try and earn her parent's attention again but things still didn't go as planned. Through middle school things didn't change, instead more of her older siblings started setting off to support their parents in their research and exploring. It caused Korra's demeanor to grow frigid and stoic as she poured more and more of her focus into her art, losing touch with any sense of intensity. She began developing a calm and delicate demeanor so she could work with her materials letting each stroke be perfectly controlled and each motion delicate and calm. Only getting more desperate for some kind of change in her life. It wasn't until highschool while she was mastering metal sculpting and bending that she felt she realized the errors she'd been making. Since her childhood she'd been copying experts and professionals in her art trying to reproduce their works but each time her parents were simply more interested in uncovering the originals in ruins and on adventures. As the last of the siblings left beginning their own life, Korra revolutionized her thinking, developing her own technique and style, she gave birth to a horrifying and dark sculpture. The Nanny that took care of her even in her teenage years was terrified by the cruelty and desperation the sculpture gave off, contorted metal in the shape of people being absorbed into a tree dragging other people into it. It was Korra's first "Harlequin" piece and the first thing that earned a call from her parents since her first time playing with clay as a child. Filled with excitement, Korra continued crafting dark pieces from many different materials, the playroom she'd been having fun in evolving into a workshop little by little as she grew was now a full blown studio for her to work in and by the time it was Korra's turn to set off on her own adventure like her siblings, her parents finally returned. At first excited and elated, Korra was overjoyed to see them and show them around the things she'd been working on from her first piece to the ones she made while her parents were traveling back home to meet her. Just like her Nanny, her parents were horrified but their eyes were glued to the statues and vases, each one had such intense detail and featured twisted senses of cruelty, revenge or pain. They were impressed beyond their wildest dreams that their daughter in highschool could make something they would mistake for a professional's piece that was worthy of a museum spot. While being showered by praise, Korra felt like she finally arrived, like everything was coming together until her parents told her that they had to put her in a proper studio right away. Their words echoing in her head, she looked at them in disbelief while they started frantically planning her future for her. Immediately alarmed, Korra watched her parents make plans to send her off to college in California with disbelief as all of her effort and struggling gave her none of what she wanted. Trying to stop them, she grabbed her parents by their coat tails and pleaded, explaining that she just wanted to go out into the world with them and uncover ruins and find fancy artifacts with them, she tried to appeal to them and tell them all of her effort was to try to be worthy. Without hesitation, her parents merely chuckled looking at her with vague concern like she was crazy explaining to her that going to college and being a professional was for the best, just like her siblings, she had a gift that couldn't be ignored. Korra's heart sank. She began piecing things together bit by bit, each of her siblings leaving on an adventure without a heartfelt reunion, without being allowed to visit or play with each other. In her head she could see it playing out each time, her parents planning their futures and shipping them out to different places around the world. While the images were zipping through her head, Korra finally snapped, her stoic and calm demeanor finally cracking into hysteria, Korra couldn't hold the laughter and giggles in. She panicked and immediately grabbed her carving knife and cleaved a deep wound into one of her works causing her parents to suddenly freeze during their planning process. Without hesitation, Korra began destroying her sculptures one by one turning stone into rubble, wood into shards and metal into scrap. Her parents, concerned and scared for her tried to stop her, but Korra only continued destroying the things she worked so hard to make for them. Finally finding herself crouching in the middle of a rubble filled work room, Korra's hysteric laughter turned into sobs when she finally calmed down. Inconsolable, her mother tried to figure out what was wrong while her father looked through the rubble for anything that was salvageable. Korra spent the rest of that day in relative silence, every time her mother tried to speak with her, Korra would merely glance her way with an empty indifferent expression even with tear stained cheeks. For all her protests, Korra accepted her fate with indifference, her plan and hopes failing to bring her family closer together with her success, her failure weighing heavily on her heart it only proved to show her the world was rotten. In spite of all of the effort she put in, burning most of her life away slaving over becoming a skilled sculptor, she wasn't allowed to follow in her mother and father's footsteps. No matter how much she protested they didn't seem to have an interest in taking her with them leaving her with only one course of action. Enrolling in the college her parents picked for her, living in the apartment and using the workshop they paid for, Korra resigned herself to her fate making sculptures and trying to develop a brand for herself. With the help of a few fans she made that saw her work during school, Korra began displaying her work and selling her works in a small gallery. She created the name "Harlequin" for her works though her small fan base used the name "Teal Terrors" because of how dark and deep the works portrayed horrifying things she started trying to create a life for herself. In the present, Korra accepts that her parents may never truly value her as a person and only want her as an artist to brag about. Though she once desperately tried to chase after them, she believes she realized the error in her efforts to accomplish a dream that couldn't be realized. Wishing for a world in which effort and drive was enough to change someone's fate, Korra decided on a new goal of finding someone who would love her instead of someone to offer her love to, believing that when that day comes, she'll be able to truly perfect her artform and on that day, the emptiness and darkness she's had to live with would fade. |
