May 7th, 2012, 2:39 It was another rough day at a warm family park for Korra. Her work having to take her here for a second day in a row, she'd gotten a complicated and challenging commission to craft a wishing-well like fountain for the families and children to enjoy. Requesting something elegant and beautiful, for people to watch while they rested on their way in or out during their shopping trips or tourist trips. Even with the lovely offer they gave her though, elegant and beautiful simply weren't enough. For a piece that people would be able to enjoy and stare at for long amounts of time, it had to be something fun and entertaining at the same time. This was the current problem Korra was dealing with... The equipment was already set up, the water systems prepared, the basics drawn out. The wishing-well for throwing coins into was empty with plastic to catch debris from her sculpting. The water, according to Korra's plans, would only be coming in from four points along the outer wall though to turn the fountain into a whirl pool, making it easier to collect coins at the center while being a fun experience for people who were kind enough to make a wish and throw their hard earned change in. Korra's current problem, came in the form of a proper center piece. She'd spent the previous day crafting a lovely wall for the fountain, diligently carving designs and glyphs she'd researched as ancient indo-chinese symboles into the outsides of the fountain giving it an ancient or mythical feel, but she was at a loss for what she could add to it to make it more interesting. Reaching into her small box of candy she'd gotten at one of the shops while she wracked her brain for an answer, she pulled out a piece of chocolate to chew on while she stared into the stone center piece as if waiting for some kind of solution. She was sure inspiration would come to her eventually, but she was having a block... Something to add to the fun of a whirlpool fountain, something exciting and eye catching that couldn't be found anywhere else but while she ate her chocolate, she was already dreading the headache she was slowly developing trying to force herself to think of things that were entertaining. She was normally a dark sculptor so making something festive and exciting was a difficult prospect for her. Still, it was a job and she did want to please her client, and the people who would see the piece...

Jean had a meeting today with the advertising agent Quentin had introduced to him. But that was later and Jean was currently walking through Chinatown back to his bakery after having had lunch at a fabulous Vietnamese restaurant several streets away. It was a bit of a walk but even Jean had to admit that it was worth it. He had a soft spot for Vietnamese food and there weren't many in Taiwan and even fewer in France. Being able to find a good Vietnamese restaurant was one of the few things he regarded as great about America.
He walked through the local park, hoping to take a shortcut back to where is bakery and consequently his flat was located. Unfortunately for him, he was stopped at the center because it was blockaded by numerous equipment and blocks of stone. A lone girl stood in the center staring at the materials while chewing on something that Jean guessed to be chocolate. He could have easily taken another route but one, he was curious and two, he wanted to know why there was a so much stuff blocking a perfectly good route back to his store. It looked like some sort of construction was being done but in that case the girl standing in the middle was completely out of place.
Seeing as how no one else was working in the middle of the mess, Jean decided that asking the girl would probably prove most fruitful. "Pardon me," Jean began politely. His French accent was as thick as ever and he doubted that it would go away any time soon. Accents weren't something someone could just get rid of. "What's going on here? Is there something being built here?"

Korra hesitated at the respectful voice, it was odd to her ears for someone to address her in such a way, she was young and often seemed out of place after all. It was a breath of fresh air when she turned to recognize Jean meant her when he was speaking.
"Ah. Yes, the park's being redone, though I was only commissioned to build the fountain."
She answered bluntly. Her voice was monotonous and seemed odd, no alteration of pitch, and no real accent that couldn't just be considered generic 'American English'. Each one of her words ran together precisely and evenly while she spoke, but just like her monotonous voice, her expression was stoic and almost frozen in indifference and disinterest while she spoke. Unable to properly convey the feelings of an apologetic smile, Korra continued.
"I'm sorry, I can't say when it'll be done but I'm sure it won't be any time soon. I've come to something of an artistic block."
Korra added hoping it didn't sound sarcastic because of her voice, but it was a problem that left her sitting and eating chocolate while she tried to plot out a direction for the fountain's center piece. Even with the outer portions done, it wouldn't be a completed project without the center piece.
Her eyes sliding back towards Jean though, she did feel a little bad, he wasn't the only one she had to explain the situation to, she felt a little concerned that no one had set up a sign or anything. She expected the others to be more diligent about that kind of thing, it would be horrifying if someone wandered in and got hurt.
"I'm the only one on duty today, trying to think of a good center piece."
Korra explained, stuffing another piece of chocolate in her mouth to drown the frustration inside her beneath candy.

Jean knew that when he spoke, people took notice because meeting an Asian man that spoke English with a French accent was strange. The way this girl spoke, however, seemed even stranger than even himself. When she had turned to meet him, she spoke without any pitch or fluctuation in her voice. Jean had never met anyone that spoke this way. He didn't even know it was humanly possible. Her accent was American, that was for sure. Unless they were some sort of computer programmed to recreate human sounds, it was impossible to speak without an accent, no matter how one spoke.
Her face betrayed absolutely no emotion that Jean could accurately decipher. It was blank and like one might see on a doll. Jean was slightly taken aback but would not allow himself to show it. People were not stoic, he reminded himself. People had emotions and tells and actions that gave away so much about them. But the girl continued speaking in the same manner with no changes whatsoever. And to be honest, it was pissing Jean off in more ways than one.
"So you are building a sculpture here?" Jean asked slowly, the smile never leaving his face. He was a busy man and had better things to do (like work). But many things about this situation were not sitting well with him and it never hurt to ask. He'd remain polite, of course. It would not do either of them any good to be impolite.
