TIME STAMP» May 16th, 2PM | TAGS» "Moose" | WORD COUNT» 362 | NOTES» Let the Moose loose. =w= /shot _________________________________________________________ An expression of obvious annoyance and sadness dominated Seraphina's visage as she sighed, standing just shy of the sensor plate that controlled the automated doors to the busy store before her. She watched the people filing in and out for a few moments before stepping inside the Walmart, herself. Gazing down at her palm where a phone with a screen cracked beyond recongnition sat, she grumbled lowly to herself, cursing her clumsiness. It had gotten the better of her once again!
Earlier that morning, she had been fiddling with the clasp to her purse, eventually snapping it open only to send the contents launching across her kitchen. Of course, the phone felt the need to smash right into the corner of her counter. She had to spent a good 10 minutes searching under the refrigerator for the battery and backing only to realize after putting them in that the screen was completely shot. Honestly, this happened so often that she should have seen it coming.
Smacking into the uneccessarily cold wall of air-conditioning, she meandered through the aisles to reach the electronics section of the large store. Typically, Sera was not the type to go for simplicity, nor did she like to get the same thing every time. But, seeing how she really didn't care for talking over the phone or texting, and how mostly all of the conversations she DID have were those with her boss or coworkers which happened few and far between, her need for a phone that had 'unlimited everything' and tons of memory was relatively small.
Almost every time, she had chosen a prepaid phone. But, one with app capabilities because... well, because even she got bored every once in a while. Just before standing behind the one person already at the counter, she pulled the SD card from her busted phone and then tossed the useless device back into her bag. Later on, perhaps she would drop it off at one of those cell phone recycling kiosks in the malls. The broken ones don't get you much if anything, but she'd feel better recycling it than throwing it out. Not that it really mattered in the end...

Moose could not have looked more out of place if he'd had actual Moose antlers. He looked out of place in most places, being both obscenely tall and obscenely muscular, but in Walmart, with a particularly large population, he looked even more so. Plus, there were kids around, which made him look even more like a giant. The fact that he was wearing what looked like a very badly fit (and terribly ragged) suit only made him stand out more, and the stack of clothes pinned under one arm only added to the intensely confusing picture that Moose presented.
Moose really wasn't used to shopping. He was used to people staring at him (which they were), but definitely not to shopping. For one thing, he had his new clothes tucked under one arm rather then in a basket. He looked both out of place and confused. He was standing not far from the line, staring at the 'pay as you go' section. It had a whole bunch of phones, none of which were good, each of which advertised some new feature. Even worse, every single one seemed to have a different deal. One boasted the phone was free if you bought a certain plan. One boasted twenty five dollars in free accessories if you bought that one. None of them were helping Moose in the slightest, because he didn't know what he needed. Was he going to make five calls a month? Or was he going to make ten? He'd never had a phone before, had never made more then one or two calls, and while his boss had been relatively insistent that he needed a way to contact Moose, it was still a daunting and terrifying task for him to have to pick.
He didn't even know where to start. All he could do was hunch over slightly, squinting at a list of features that he could barely read and absolutely didn't understand. @earthmate | MAY 16TH, 2PM |

TIME STAMP» May 16th, 2PM | TAGS» "Moose" | WORD COUNT» 486 | NOTES» xxx _________________________________________________________ Eventually, the person at the head of the line moved on, and Seraphina had found herself too lost in thought to realize it. She glanced aimlessly around the store, and before long, someone actually had the gall to cut in front of her while she was spaced out! Not that she could really say anything... She was holding up the slowly growing line, after all. Retaining her position as second in line, she kept her focus on the counter. Luckily for her, the one who had cut in front had nothing but a simple inquiry, and Sera was able to move up after only a few moments.
Sighing - more out of relief than anything - she set her bag on the counter and began rummaging through it for her card. "Good afternoon!" she chimed to the man who had actually greeted her first. When she finally got her card, she nodded and pointed to the phone of her choosing, smiling slightly when it was brought to her. This was a moment of total and utter deja vu... She probably didn't even have to tell the man what she wanted; she was fairly sure he'd served her for the same purpose before. All of the people who worked this counter probably had.
Seriously. You'd think she could get some sort of frequent buyer discount, or something.
Nevertheless, the purchase went quickly and easily like always, but while she moved to the side to make sure everything was in order, a shadow was cast over where she was standing. Quirking a brow, she turned and was promptly met with a tower of a man who stood staring at the phones near the line. She caught herself giving him a sidelong glance out of confusion after she gathered his overall appearance. He had clothing tucked under his arm, and he looked a mite confused himself. As more and more shoppers began flooding into the area, Sera noticed there were few people working the floor near this man who could lend him a hand. But, she would feel rude just leaving him there, having a staring contest with the descriptions of various packages beside the phones to which they applied. Was she savvy enough to really be of any help, though? Well, it'd be better than no help at all, she assumed.
"Excuse me." she spoke softly, directing her voice at the tall man in hopes he'd know she was speaking to him. "Did you perhaps need some help with something?" Smiling, she tried to look as helpful as she could as she stood in wait of his reply. This was a little like the blind leading the blind, but she wasn't completely lost when it came to phones. Especially not these simple ones. She did hope she could clear some things for him. Otherwise, this would be a little awkward.

Moose was so overwhelmed that he didn't even realize someone was talking to him. The 'excuse me' flew right over his head, and he shifted out of the way, assuming someone was trying to move past him. He didn't even look up until the girl spoke again, and his head turned, then quickly lowered to get a look at who he was talking to.
A girl. No, a woman. She had to be at least in her twenties, but Moose was particularly terrible at telling anything about women, and would have been hard pressed to peg her age at anything more specific then that. Was she twenty? Was she twenty-nine? He couldn't have even hazarded a guess. More importantly, did she work there? He had no idea if there was a uniform (or what it might possibly be), but she didn't seem to have a nametag on. Maybe he was missing it? It honestly wouldn't be the first time Moose had missed something by virtue of his height. She wasn't even particularly short for a woman--she actually taller then usual.
Not that it meant much. Moose was still almost a foot taller then her, and attempting to crane his head down to check her chest for a nametag was the sort of rudeness that even Moose knew could be an issue.
Wait, hadn't she said something? He forced himself to try and remember, having utterly missed what she'd said. He cleared his throat once, trying to straighten up and taking a random stab in the dark at what she'd probably asked.
"Just lookin' at phones. Not sure what to get." He offered, hoping that whatever she'd asked could be answered by that. Maybe it couldn't. Maybe she'd asked something that absolutely had nothing to do with what he was doing there, but he was hoping that she was. After all, lots of questions could be answered by what he'd just said. Questions like 'what are you doing' and 'do you need help or can you just get out now'.

TIME STAMP» May 16th, 2PM | TAGS» "Moose" | WORD COUNT» 302 | NOTES» xxx _________________________________________________________ Seraphina watched the man's movements, hardly able to restrain a giggle when he stepped to the side as if to let her go by. "No, I-" she had begun softly, just before he turned to see her. Looking up to meet eyes with him, she smiled, shifting her weight a bit as she moved her bag from one arm to the other. If she was going to feel intimidated by his imposing form, then would have been the time. Sera didn't get the feeling he was a bad man, however, and so his size meant very little to her.
She paused for a moment, letting the stranger gather his bearings - he truly did look lost. Eventually, he had spoken up, though, and Sera simply gave a nod in response. Turning her gaze toward the phones he was looking at prior, she scanned over them for a few seconds before looking back up at him with an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry to have bothered you, then." she said with a small chuckle. If his only issue was that he wasn't sure which model to get, then she couldn't really help - that was all a matter of preference. It had seemed that he was more concerned about the features each provided, however, in which case she could maybe be of some assistance if he wanted it.
"But, if you need some help choosing," she started, glancing between the rack of phones and the tall stranger. "I would be happy to lend a hand." It had definitely occurred to her that she was just being annoying, pestering this man the way she was. If he shooed her away, she wouldn't particularly mind. At least she was trying to do her good deed for the day.

So did she work there? Moose honestly wasn't sure, and he found himself half-turning to squint at her. Was she just some random person trying to be helpful, or was she a worker who had a more specific interest in getting him the hell out of there? She didn't seem like she worked there, but it was hard for Moose to tell. He had never worked a retail job, and what experience had had with retail was minimal at best. Didn't they normally wear special shirts and little tags with their name on them?
So she probably didn't work there. She was just helping him for... for what? There wasn't any reason, but Moose was hardly in a situation where he could turn it down. He did need help, and he glanced at the phones one more time before turning fully to her and trying to explain his problem.
"I just need a phone for calls. I dunno about any of that other stuff--data and texting and all that--I just need a phone. A cheap one." As cheap as they could get, realistically. He had very little money, and what he did he needed to conserve. If he could have gotten away without a phone, he probably would have, but it was getting to be a pain having to make it all the way to work just to check if jobs were available, and the boss wanted him on call.
