While this can be a negative trait it has helped her in very stressful situations. She might be referred to as a cold hearted witch but at least she always kept her wits. Considering her occupation this actually a very highly valued trait. It also lets her demonstrate her analytic nature. That is half the fun of a situation or event, determining all the parts and angles. She likes to think that there are few situations that would catch her by surprise. Unfortunately, she is only human and when surprised she becomes agitated showing a side most people would not see. She is also a very tenacious individual. When she gets an idea she holds onto it and will not let it go. In fact, she will sometimes do things that might seem callous to other people all in pursuit of whatever fascinates her most. This highlights her incredibly selfish nature. Everything she does is all for the pursuit of her goals and obsessions. Whatever or whoever gets hurt in the process is not something she has ever been worried about. The one time her parents took her to a psychiatrist he labelled her apathetic. As much as she considered him nonsense, she could not deny that the emotions of others weighed very little to her. She tries to hide this behind her reserved exterior and this works to a certain extent. While she may be cold and selfish she has been known to show a warmer side to herself. This is mainly reserved for people close to her, which at the moment consists of her cat and her parents. She can be very warm to people if they provide her with something that she needs or wants. Normally, this happens in pursuit of a goal or obsession. There is a rumor that she even kissed the old librarian at the UCLA library when he found an old 1st edition of a Medieval text. She of course denies this with a cool glare if this is ever mentioned. One thing that she is very particular about is if her hair is mentioned. It is an unfortunate genetic trait that led to her premature graying. All the dye in the world never worked on her hair which would turn any color into some weird fiasco on the color wheel. The one red streak she does have in her hair is actually woven in and about the only color the hospital will allow. Some of the nursing staff and patients have picked up on her sensitivity to her hair and have used this to their advantage enjoying seeing the ice doctor melt a bit. Lenore knows this is a weakness and try as she might she can not overcome this discomfort about her looks. [/style] |

The two parents had never strived for greatness only to live comfortably and at that they succeeded. They bought a cozy little house in a nice little suburb and were only upset that there was no white picket fence to go along with the picture. They welcomed Lenore with happy hearts and the first few years of her life were unremarkable. When Lenore was five the family welcomed their second child, another daughter whomed they named Rosalind. Lenore did not seem to care that there was a new occupant in the house. The parents were expecting her to have an adverse reaction to a new sibling sharing their affection and were uncertain on how to handle her rather apathetic response. Considering their lifestyle, this was one of their pressing concerns. Unfortunately, Rosalind soon became ill. When she was slightly over a year old her mother took her to the hospital fearing that the girl had minigitis. That was not the case, she was diagnosed with a rare brain cancer and given only months to live. The small family had never had to truly deal with tragedy or loss prior to this time. Lenore was quiet but she watched. She noticed the strain in her parents voices when they talked. She noticed the color slowly leaving Rosalind's once lively face. Lenore was not blessed with clarity beyond her age so she was uncertain about the events occurring around her. What she was sure of was that whatever it was it was fascinating. She would ask her mother and father strange questions, unnerving questions, and she found their stammering reactions to be even more curious. It was not long before she learned what death was when Rosalind passed away six months after being diagnosed. Death had never occurred in her little world. The television shows never showed it. Her parents never discussed it. She never even had a pet fish that surely would have passed away from neglect. This "death" that she learned about sparked something inside her mind, but she had learned to keep these strange fascinations to herself. Her parents would only become flustered and whisper late at night when they thought she could not hear them. So she said nothing as her parents wept as Rosalind's coffin was lowered into the ground. She merely watched as the dirt was thrown over the lovingly carved wood. The years passed and while her parents wished that Lenore would be more outgoing they could find no fault with her. She did well in school and participated in school events, though she never quite made any lasting friends. It was a pleasant surprise when she informed them of her intent to go to medical school and become a doctor. They had always thought it strange that she never seemed to have any emotional ties to her young sister. Now they neatly boxed and placed those fears away. Surely, she wanted to become a doctor to help people and find cures for diseases like the cancer that took Rosalind away. They could not have been more wrong. Lenore had never forgotten her fascination with death that she had first noticed as a child. She had nourished it over the years, finding in it the one passion she had in life. Books were hidden under her bed from her parents prying eyes that discussed things from capital punishment to her favorite Malleus Maleficarum discussing the prosecution and trial of witches in the 15th Century. She opted to go into the medical field because it would let her observe people, those that lived and more importantly those that died. She had contemplated becoming a coroner but felt that would have been too much of a shock for her parents. Whatever her reasons she was packed off to medical school with a peck on the cheek from either parent. It was during her college years that she was finally able to breathe and let her passion grow into an obsession. There were finally no parents to keep her in check. The college never delved too much into the fact that no room mate would ever stay with her long and she was content with her own space. Unnerving, cold, strange were all traits that became associated with her but she did not care about their thoughts. She worked hard at her studies and in her spare time visited grave yards, museums, and hospitals. Eventually she was able to get a residency at Hope Hospital and finally became a full fledged doctor. While she has been marked off for her rather aloof demeanor to patients and their relatives, her skills as a doctor compensate for that to the higher ups in the hospital. For her part, Lenore makes sure she never quite pushes the wrong button though it is a fine dance she plays. Currently she lives in a modest apartment not far from Hope Hospital with her cat, Skuld. There are still medical school bills to pay off after all. Of course, the apartment is not too far away from a graveyard. There is a lovely mausoleum there whose gate is loose, with a bit of prying she should be able to get inside. [/style] |
