She knows when to say please and thank you, she was taught how to share, to respect her elders, and Candice is always willing to lend a hand to people when they ask for it. As the eldest of three siblings, she often helps her mother with various small chores around the house. Candice will watch her toddler brother whilst her mother watches the baby, and do things like pick up toys and throw away trash. Candice has always had a kind heart and has never been accused of being a bully but has on occasion been called a suck up. Candice is very inquisitive and she wants to find out the truth about the world. She has a very high level of reading comprehension and understanding but she is still fairly naive about what she reads. It’s not just that she doesn’t always know the meanings of words, but that she accepts certain things as answers when they really aren’t. For instance a book about monsters will be her fact source about creatures that go bump in the night and she usually believes they are real. Candice questions things like what is right and wrong, what is life and death, but she contradicts herself by accepting non-credible answers to these questions. As she grows she will likely learn from this mistake but for now she can’t help behaving as someone her own age would. Candice is generally a very happy child but she doesn’t have a lot of friends. Candice prefers to keep to herself most of the time and the other children think she is weird. Candice is into ghosts and mysteries while other girls are still into dolls or things appropriate for their age. Candice doesn’t get down because of this though, she enjoys reading, and investigating and others usually just get in her way or annoy her with dumb questions; other children sometimes wander off though when Candice answers questions and gives too many details. Candice is a relatively fearless child; she breaks the rules often but has managed to only get caught a handful of times. Her bravery is not fathomless but she doesn’t shy away from adventure, spiders, or scary noises. Instead Candice jumps right into a situation and tries to find her next case. [/style] |

Her father has a fancy white collar job, Candice thinks it has something to do with punishing bad men, and her mother stays home to take care of Candice and her two siblings. Candice is the oldest of her siblings, having a younger brother age four and a baby sister age three, and she has sort of become the most neglected of the three children. When Candice was born she was the pride and joy of her parents, but she was quickly replaced in her father’s eyes with the birth of her brother and her mother spends night and day caring for Candice’s baby sister. With a toddler and an infant, the nine year old Candice has fallen slightly to the way side. That’s not to say she is ignored or mistreated, but she is usually left to her own devices and thought to be mature enough to be reasonably responsible. Candice had always been a little different in her way of thinking. When she was five she witnessed the death of her grandmother, a simple stroke, but it exposed Candice to the concepts of life and death before she was really ready to handle them. Her parents had never really been religious, so Candice was not exposed to any previous knowledge of an afterlife or the more complex issues of good an evil. She knew that some things were right and some things were wrong but not why, and not what was considered a grey area. To her death seemed like something that was wrong, burying a person alive seemed wrong, and the sudden prayer and church services, that followed her grandmother’s passing, threw Candice for another loop and made her begin to question adults for the first time. When Candice was six she began to deny the simple truths she was being given by her parents. She rebelled against simple rules like bedtime and what to and not to say. Beyond those simple things though she started questioning explanations for death, why she said the pledge of allegiance at school each morning, and how people having less money and things than her family did was somehow acceptable. While this made Candice somewhat rebellious, she still hardly broke any rules worth mentioning, mostly just silly things; but her fascination with discovering the why behind things led her to become more daring with her rule breaking. Candice developed a sort of investigative obsession for the unknown. She began watching spy themed shows and movies, nothing above PG, but she also developed an interest in ghosts, monsters, and the paranormal. Her parents thought her sleuthing was cute and got her various “spy gear” kits to play with. Candice also began investigating things further and started checking out more advanced literature from the public library; she got books on paranormal occurrences, monster manuals, and other books beyond her comprehension. One book in particular, “Fate’s Promise,” a chapter book involving three goddesses, ancient wars, and elemental magic, fascinated Candice. She ended up stealing this book rather than checking it out, hiding it at the back of her closet so her mother wouldn’t find it. Recently, Candice has transferred to a private school with some oddly liberal teaching styles. The school often takes field trips and seeks to enrich their pupil’s minds through firsthand experience rather than relying on text and traditional classroom settings. Candice enjoys the school and has found the instructors to be very helpful in her research, giving her more open ended and theological answers to questions that public school teachers would simply look uncomfortable about. Candice continues her search to find out the “truth” about the world, but she probably won’t like the answers she finds. [/style] |
